[Bug 958054] Re: System wont boot up with ATI Catalyst driver in Ubuntu Precise ATI HD 5450
Yes, the fglrx-installer package rebuilds the drivers for kernels, so if you install some other kernel you need to rerun it (easiest to do by uninstall/reinstall). ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/958054 Title: System wont boot up with ATI Catalyst driver in Ubuntu Precise ATI HD 5450 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/958054/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 958054] Re: System wont boot up with ATI Catalyst driver in Ubuntu Precise ATI HD 5450
I managed to overcome this bug by uninstalling all ATI catalyst driver and installing afterwards the FGLRX (post-update version) in Hardware Drivers section. That fixed 3D acceleration, I wonder why ATI Binary was unable to install correctly. [Bug 958054] Re: System wont boot up with ATI Catalyst driver in Ubuntu Precise ATI HD 5450
** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Latest update in Ubuntu Precise beta 1 amd 64 broke ATI Binary Catalyst driver and now Virtualbox says that i have to disable 3D acceleration in guests machines because 3D acceleration in Host is not supported. At this time i was using the upstream kernel 3.3 and when i tried installing ATI drivers in kernel 3.2 of ubuntu precise the system wont boot. It freezes at startup. I think this is a major issue that i could deal by having other versions of the kernel installed. Opensource ATI drivers are fine but do not support 3D acceleration.
