The delay has gone now, and networking appears right away (after applying the latest updates). I experience the same behaviour as Yuttadhammo in Gutsy (using Gnome here). Something is taking long to load, and until then, the notification area isn't shown (which means no network-manager-no networking). This is happening for me using Compiz and Gutsy. It seems that something is taking an inordinate amount of time to load. More testing: xfwn4 and icewm get the splash screen, and when pressiong the exit button, no dialog will appear. Blackbox doesn't get the splash screen, but pressing exit won't make the exit dialog appear. Fluxbox is nearly the same: by pressing the splash screen, it dissapear. Also no exit- dialog. Enlightenment and openfox work fine. maybe your right.. but this stuff has worked since breezy, and it is a bug. A release should be as bug free as posible.
