I had this problem in 12.10 and now I have in 13.04 too. 13.04 even doesn’t draw the user background! I followed these steps.. $ gksudo gedit /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/50_unity- greeter.gschema.override Add these lines: [com.canonical.unity-greeter] play-ready-sound = false Save, then run: $ sudo glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/ -- The Sound is still comming. Closing. Please see comments 5 and 7/8 for more details. I've opened bug 992788 so that dconf-editor would allow to set system wide settings.
