I have also tried installing with a NFS mounted ISO and have the same problem. You can fix it (installation media fix) when you add acpi=off noapic to the kernel commandline. It helped us. Thanks to Brent's reply, I used the NOACPI option from the Boot menu (hit F6 and select it), and was finally able to get past the previous no CD-Rom detection error, but now get this error: Debootstrap warning WARNING: Failure trying to run: chroot /target dpkg --force-depends --install /var/cache/apt/archives/debonf_1.5.42ubuntu1_all.deb check /var/log/syslog or see virtual console 4 for the details. Has anybody figured out a way to install 12.04 64 server version as Xen VM?? I even tried mounting a CIFS share using just the .iso, still bombs with the Detect and mount CD-ROM error message? I even tried upgrading from 11.04 and 11.10 to 12.04 on a virtual machine... upgrade bombs with a hardware checksum error, reboots box and no longer sees the installation files... Using the server x64 ISO On XENServer 5.5.0 build 25727p: The virtual machine crashes in the BIOS screen. VM powers off. On XEN Server 5.6.0 FP1 build 39265p: Installer made it to the `Waiting for link-local address; please wait...` Screen. Froze at 16%. I cancelled and continued with the install Rest of the install worked without issue. Virtual server seems to be working without issue. Was able to apt-get update and apt-get upgrade. Same issue using Citrix XenCenter version 6.0.2 (build 53158) as of Apr 27, 2012. CD install will start, asks about language and keyboard layout, then stops with the Detect and mount CD-ROM error message!!! I don't see any changes to this part of the installer *at all* - not just no relevant changes, cdrom-detect.postinst and the Linux variant of list-devices literally haven't changed at all. Maybe a udev or kernel change? list-devices is probably the easiest place to start debugging; I expect you'll find that on 11.10 the virtual CD is showing up in /sys/block/ and has an ID_CDROM= entry in its 'udevadm info -q env' output, while on precise either it's missing from /sys/block/ (perhaps kernel bug, perhaps some necessary module not being properly delivered to the installer) or it doesn't have an ID_CDROM= entry (probably a udev bug). Both iso images are saved localy on the XCP host in the following directories: /var/opt/xen/iso_import/ubuntu11.10/ /var/opt/xen/iso_import/ubuntu12.04/ What has changed in 12.04 compare to 11.10 due the the mounting of CD- ROM during the installation? (the CD-ROM label has additional LTS text for 12.04). wheezy iso files seems to have similar problem however they report missing cd-rom dirver instead. Tested on the same XP 1.5 host (xen-server 6). ** Description changed: It is *not* possible anymore to use a local ubuntu-server-12.04.iso file for off-line installation of VM on XCP 1.5 (xen-server 6). The created VM boots first correctly from the iso file and allows keyboard settings etc *but* somewhere later it breakes with the following error message: # --- Your installation CD-ROM couldn't be mounted.
