[Bug 988576] Re: Wlan connection continuously disconnects
I had the same issue on my old Dell laptop, B43xx wlan card. It was so annoying that I reverted back to 10.04, in which there are no problems. Don't know if this has been fixed already. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988576 Title: Wlan connection continuously disconnects To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/988576/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 988576] Re: Wlan connection continuously disconnects
I've tested the newest kernel (3.6.0-rc1) and the problem persists. Christopher, if you isist I will also try the alpha of ubuntu 12.10. There is an upstream bug for this issue: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39082 Although the uptream bug was never marked as fixed there is a proposed fix which is inlcuded in 3.6.0-rc. Since this bug appears to affect only me and Kris the source of this bug might also be the firmware of the access-point. Unfortunately I do not have a second access point to test. Given that there has been a lot of developement on the affected kernel module (iwlwifi) which has led to no change I believe this is the most probable expaination. Therefore, I mark this bug as invalid. If you come across this issue please reopen. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988576 Title: Wlan connection continuously disconnects To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/988576/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 988576] Re: Wlan connection continuously disconnects
SimonW, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested and remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER', where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER', where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it and add the tag: 'kernel-unable- to-test-upstream'. Please let us know your results. [Bug 988576] Re: Wlan connection continuously disconnects
Hi Simon, unfortunatelly using the GSM connection I'm not able to proceed with bigger downloads for tryerror approach, cause it is on limited bandwith with high price around additional transfer packages, so if there is no option to reactivate the WiFi on current ubuntu stack 12.04/3.2 or 3.0 I will have to wait for such experiments until returning home and cable connection. Anyway, I believe, that we have already proven here, that this issue is not unique for one type of thinkpad nor IntelCentrino AGN card. We know already that it is at least about yours X201 - Intel(R) Centrino(R) Ultimate-N 6300 AGN, REV=0x74 and mine W510 - Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6200/6250 AGN, REV=0x74 and after brief google search it seems to me that it could also hit many other thinkpad configurations with Advanced-N 6xxx wlan cards under Linux 3.x kernels - which drives me to speculation, that the current Ubuntu 12.04 LTS distro could be in serious danger of having real problem with notsupporting the whole current thinkpad wifi cards family, which is really bad for the Ubuntu LTS brand, thus probably someone else could try to build the test env., replicate and isolate the error and generate some kind of patch, while having working WiFi connection support at worldwide bestselling business notebooks like thinkpads could be important for Ubuntu LTS reputation itself. I'm sorry, that personally I'm not able to help more right now, but that's my current reality. [Bug 988576] Re: Wlan connection continuously disconnects
Folks, I suspect, that the issue is not only wifi module/driver problem, but rather it is a kind of combination of module and ubuntu libraries errors in recent version. Yesterday I've upgraded my 11.10 to 12.04lts on w510/adv-n 6200agn and now I can not connect to my host wifi not only with the new 3.2 kernel, but also the previous 3.0.0-19 stopped working after new ubuntu binaries arrived, regardless of fact that on 11.10 binaries the 3.0 kernel modules allowed me to download over 2G upgraded packages without any problems yesterday... Your workaround doesn't work for me and while I'm on the holidays, trekking some mountains, the only connection that left me now is just iPad, thus I'm unable to send the logs nor other extensive details, however the issue that I see as an addition to yours earlier report is that under ubuntu 12.04lts the wifi is unable to connect under 3.2 nor 3.0 kernels even after using proposal workaround with disabling the n. In my dmesg log there is communicate that wlan0 is connected/authenticated/associated and after some seconds later another information that wlan0 is deauthenticating from router mac addres by lokal choice (reason=3). Please advise, while I'm stuck here for another 2 more weeks having only iPad connections which is very sad. This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report at bugzilla.kernel.org [1]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug. If you are comfortable with opening a bug upstream, It would be great if you can report back the upstream bug number in this bug report. That will allow us to link this bug to the upstream report. [Bug 988576] Re: Wlan connection continuously disconnects
I've checked upstrem if there is an existing bug. [1] seems to be related. In [1] the speed of wlan is very unstable. This corresponds to what I experience with kernel 3.0.0-17. Now, with kernel 3.2.0-23 or newer this issue seems to have become worse and no packets get though anymore. I can now remember that I had the issue with unstable wlan speed long time ago. Since I had permanently disabled n mode I didn't notice the bug until now. Disabling n-mode solves the described issure: sudo rmmod iwlwifi sudo modprobe iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 You can permanently disable n-mode by issuing: sudo echo options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf I would definitely like to report my issues upstream. However I'm not sure whether to open a new bug or append to [1]. What is your recommendation?
