This is fixed in clamtk 2.32 in Gutsy. You still have to be root to update, but clamtk now recognizes the updates. I uninstalled and purged klamav, clamav and all dependent packages. I then reinstalled clamtk, clamav and all dependent packages. On restarting clamtk, I got the message that signatures were 37 days old. When I ran freshclam from the command line, it advised me that the signatures were up to date. The return code from freshclam was 1, supporting the above. Restarting clamtk, I again got the message that signatures were 37 days old. It appears that clamtk may not be reflecting the correct state of the virus signatures which it appears are being correctly updated. Yes. Scott, Thanks for your help. I've uninstalled ClamTk and installed klamav in its place. Unfortunately, I can't find a Gnome menu item for klamav. Unfortunately, I can't find a Gnome menu item for klamav. I have the same problem on i386. OK. Wait an hour or two and then look in the freshclam log (in /var/log/clamav/freshclam.log) and see if the system freshclam updates properly (it did when I tested this). You can then check running gksudo clamtk to see if clamtk recognizes the update. I believe it will when rung the gksudo. I tested clamav, klamav, and clamtk a fair amount during Feisty development and I am not at all confident that clamtk works at all well with the new 0.90 clamav versions. In my testing klamav seemed much more functional. You may want to consider switching.
