[Bug 994688] Re: Xorg crash

2012-08-22 Thread Piyush Roy
Hi Daniel,

It would be great if you try to follow the steps which Marteen asked to
do. I cant do it since I dont have another system which I can use to
remotely login to affect system.

Hi Marteen,

Inside xserver when you try to run gdb does not work all. Not even
pressing ALT+F1/F7 to switch from x-window to text based window and even
this text based window hangs. It is my bad that I dont have another
system which I can use to remotely login to affected system.

If you are doing it from inside the X server itself, the first thing
attaching a debugger does is stopping the program to be debugged.

Since that's X, it wouldn't surprise me if that's why it locks, since it would
need X to draw updates before you can see the output.

You could switch to a virtual console from x with control-alt-f2 and run
it there then switch back to the x server with alt-f1 or alt-f7 usually.

Try typing 'cont' and then hit enter, else debugger will attach but wait for

[Bug 994688] Re: Xorg crash

I think even gdb hangs.

At least from this bug I conclude that Bug #342588.

Hi Maarten,
I tried to follow ur steps but it does not accepts any input at all. Here, are
the steps which I perform

1) Run this command sudo gdb /usr/bin/Xorg 21 | tee gdb-Xorg.txt
2) In gdb prompt, I attach pid of Xorg found using pgrep Xorg lets say 1122.
And I attach the process
(gdb) attach 1122.

Then the system hangs and nothing works. Then I have to cut the power
and then I start the system again.

Please Help !!!

By any chance are you doing it inside the X server you're trying to debug or

I posted some comments on the original bug page Google took me to. I'm
not using firefox 3.6 though, saw this bug was added. Hoping to get it
fixed.

Experiencing similar problems, believe it may be causing X.org to
crash/hang, I see the output when running chrome from the cmd line.
