This message is automatically generated by the autopkgtest package testing system. You are receiving it because: The test results appear to indicate a problem with the package and reports for package maintainers for gutsy are being directed to [EMAIL PROTECTED] The top and tail of the test log, which is intended to be sufficient to diagnose most failures, can be found below. However, in case this is not sufficient, a complete log can be found along with output files, saved temporary files, and so on, at: http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/autopkgtest-output/ The test environment is an amd64 Xen guest with limited amounts of memory. The relevant dependencies are installed for each test but very few other packages. Most autopkgtest reports are FTBFS problems. In most cases it is desirable to have the X font server (xfs) and/or an X server installed to make the fonts available to X clients. . This package is missing three fonts from the X.Org source archives because the license terms on the fonts do not meet the Debian Free Software Guidelines; they are the Type1 fonts Adobe Utopia, IBM Courier, and Bigelow Holmes (BH) Luxi. . [Bug 156930] No sound on installation
Public bug reported: On both Feisty and Gutsy, there was no sound on installation. The problem is that the DCA channel in ALSAMIXER was set to zero. The first time I saw this problem in Feisty, it took me a week to figure it out. Most recently I saw it again in a clean Gutsy install, and it took me 8-9 hours to figure it out, because of course I forgot about my previous experience. This may be working as designed, but it is incredibly frustrating and I decided to file a bug report so others can reference the fix (including myself when this happens to me again.) A great first step in troubleshooting lack of sound is to open a terminal window and type alsamixer. The ALSA tools might not know your default card, and result in the following error, alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device, but before you go and try all the troubleshooting guides that recommend reloading modules, try, alsamixer -c 0 or alsamixer -c 1. You should be at a text-GUI (aka: curses) for alsamixer. Scroll through each channel and set them all to 100% with the left, right, and up arrows. Also unmute all channels with the space-bar key. You may need to hit the tab key to get to other interfaces. Check the top-left of the screen to make sure the card you are configuring is the one you expect. Now that all your channels are maxed, open the GNOME sound configuration tool. (System - Preferences - Sound.) You do not need to close the alsamixer or save the settings for them to take effect. Play with the Sound Playback drop down choices and click the Test button. Some may give you errors, and that's okay. Hopefully you will find a setting that works. Lastly, return to your alsamixer window, which should still be open. While the tone is playing from the sound configuration tool, lower the active channels half way or so, and lower the inactive channels even more. At this time you may want to mute some channels (again with the space bar) or set channels to zero. Do this while the sound is playing so that you know you are not muting your primary sound again. The Linux sound system can be confusing. There are GNOME sound levels and ALSA sound levels. You have to be sure neither are muted in order to get sound output. It doesn't help that some of the channels are called things like DAC (which means Digital Analog Converter, by the way). The problem - the bug - here is that Ubuntu installs with some of these required channels set to zero or set to mute, and dozens of people ask for help on this issue every day. Hope this information finds its way to some of them. ** Affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- No sound on installation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156930 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

RE: [Bug 156517] Re: New mail doesn't filter anymore, restart doesn't work either
50+ filters, mostly email address into local folders names, some are recipients based, 90% of them are sender based. I also noticed that filtering doesn't work initially but if I manually filter by selecting the mail and doing ctrl-y it works, if I then shutdown evolution and bring it back up and do the same thing over a few times, filtering starts to work. It's possible having too many emails to filter is breaking something. This is all based on using Evolution Exchange connector based email account. Thanks for your response. Re: [Bug 156366] Re: FeistyGutsy upgrade bricked my hard drives
Thank you Michael for your reply. Where the situtation is: I went to town and bought a new WD120 2 drive and have a successful install from the Gutsy CD that I made from the .iso download. [Bug 150930] Re: Black screen, and bad usplash.conf
Malaeum, I think that setting to 1280x1024 16-bit may be a bit too much, (I`ve set it later on to 1024x768) so you could try with some lower resolution in the StartupManager. With 1280x1024 the splash is too small, and besides, with that resolution, I couldn`t get the Fingerpring usplash to show up... The main problem for this bug to happen in the first place, seems to me, was the developers decision to exclude some drivers (?) that were present in Feisty on boot-up - somebody on kubuntuforums has noticed the difference and found the way to get them back in the mentioned fix... I`m glad it works for some people... -- Black screen, and bad usplash.conf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150930 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 59695] Re: default value in power.sh potentially kills laptop disks
May i just warn ya all to NOT play the blame-game? It does sound like it's the fault of the BIOS (and somebody should contact them). To rescue a hard-drive in distress sounds like something that should have a high-priority (critical?). Not because it's ubuntu's fault or the bios fault. But because Ubuntu can solve this issue _now_. How many machines are we talking here? Hundres, maybe thousands? Help these people out: save those hard-drives! Suggested priority: critical (data-loss, hardware failure, come on!) Suggested update-mechanism: security-updates (the complete integrity of the system is in jeopardy) Just a quick script that checks wether the values are sane and if not default to something sane. Also, obviously, windows is checking for sane values, although it might be the vendor's fault, ubuntu is going to get the blame. Hell considering we're destroying hardware, even a fix that would just _tell_ these users to deinstall ubuntu and reinstall windows would be a better situation than trashing their drives within a couple of months. -- default value in power.sh potentially kills laptop disks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/59695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 156968] evolution-exchange crashes if messages deleted with Outlook
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution-exchange My work mail is on the company exchange server and I use both evolution under Ubuntu and Outlook under windows to access it. [Bug 73591] Re: smb workgroup detection takes too long
I had exactly the same problem: Unable to find any workgroups in your local network. This might be caused by an enabled firewall and spent the best part of two days banging my head against a brick wall while trying to figure it out. My Samba server is running KUbuntu 7.10 upgraded from Kubuntu 7.04 While everything worked fine in 7.04 as soon as I upgraded to 7.10 the above problem started. The workgroup would not appear in Kubuntu or using smb:/ in konqueror. The server could not be seen by the windows computers on the network. I *finally* found how to stop the problem although I don't have the technical expertise to say what is causing it. My local network consists of the Ubuntu server running samba and two windows PCs (XP home and Vista Home Premium). Both of those computers were being assigned addresses by DHCP from my ADSL router. When I assigned static IP addresses to both windows computers the workgroup instantly appeared on all computers. If I use DHCP on either windows computer to set a network address then the workgroup disappears. So it appears to be some sort of clash between DHCP traffic and Samba. Note: The DHCP server was still running on the ADSL router - it was only when I used DHCP on the windows computers that the problem occurred. Hopefully this is helpful to others and will give some clues to someone with my technical expertise about why the problem was happening. -- smb workgroup detection takes too long https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73591 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

** Summary changed: - Unable to define a printer with a fresh Ubuntu 7.10 installation + g-s-t should add lpadmin for system admin granted users ** Description changed: + Use g-s-t to create a new user. + For this user add system admin rights. + + Doing that don't put him in lpadmin group. + + This is a problem for cupsys management. + + + +==+ + OLD Description for this bug : Hi. I just installed Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon. When I click on System - Administration - Printing, at the end of the defining printer process, I am taught to enter a password to contact the (CUPS) server. My password doesn't work. I can though open a session, configure my system as I wish, and write this bug report ;) ! I think I found the origin of this bug. Let me explain : the first user I create during the installation process is, say, toto, with password azerty (french user ;) !) After reboot, I log in the system as toto, and create a second user, say titi, password qsdfgh. I use the first user as a generic administration account. The second user account is an account for real work. For my own account on my own computer, I give myself administrator's rights. If, in the printing configuration interface, I fisrt click on Go to server, and set user name to toto, and then use toto's password, everything works fine. I can define and use the printer. If I use the predefined user (titi), it's impossible to finish the declaration process. [Bug 149382] Re: 100% cpu usage
I am getting the same here Amarok 1.4.7 (Using KDE 3.5.8) on Kubuntu Gutsy (7.10) - dist upgrade from 7.04 I tuned off Watch folders for changes under the Configure Collection Option group, and the problem does not go away, I don't get the Updating Collection... message anymore. I still get the 100% cpu usage by Amarok. This seems to happen more when I play a song I have never played before. This happens even when amarok is paused $ uname -a Linux nandrew79 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 23:05:12 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux -- 100% cpu usage https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149382 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a bug contact for amarok in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 139558] Re: [gutsy] Email subject not displayed in beagle-search and kerry
We have a hit here. A library is missing: System.DllNotFoundException: libgmime-2.0.so.2.2.10 Since it also happens on a freshly installed Kubuntu 7.10 there seems to be missing dependency. Doing a sudo aptitude install libgmime2 fixed the problem. Beagle is only dependend on libgmime2.2-cil. Possibly libgmime2 is installed per default on Ubuntu and so the problem does not appear there. ** Attachment added: beagle-extract-content.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10167757/beagle-extract-content.txt -- [gutsy] Email subject not displayed in beagle-search and kerry https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139558 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
