2008-01-19 Thread Lorenzo Castellana
I have a similar issue with my laptop Asus F3JM (15.4 WXGA, GeForce Go

I've used the notebook for more than an hour and nothing has append and
suddenly the monitor starts blinking. I noticed that it happens
especially after I have launched OpenOffice.

[Bug 184269] amule received an X Window System error

2008-01-19 Thread patrick_g
Public bug reported:

On my laptop (Ubuntu Gutsy) i cannot launch amule since yesterday
(perhaps it's related to the yesterday Xorg xserver update ?)

The error message when i try to launch amule on a console :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ amule
Initialising aMule
Checking if there is an instance already running...
No other instances are running.
The program 'amule' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 406 error_code 11 request_code 146 minor_code 5)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 121653] Re: [gutsy] fglrx breaks over suspend/resume

2008-01-19 Thread FrancoisBotman
This version is definitely better: I am no longer experiencing screen
corruption on the lower right nor near the cursor, which seemed to occur
after a certain length of time. Miraculously, composite actually works,
allowing compiz to run under a normal xorg session, however there are a
number of issues:

* The refresh rate with compiz enabled is terribly slow, video is almost
unwatchable due to slow frame rate. Without compiz enabled, everything
is fine (I am even getting amazing rates for hardware acceleration.

* With compiz enabled, after a certain length of time (it seems to occur
most with a terminal open), the window painting becomes desynced
compared to the actual window position (that is, when you try to move a
window, you realize it is actually about 300px to the left), and moving
the window leaves traces on the windows behind. This may be a compiz
problem, but I had never experienced it before using the newer driver.

These problems make compiz unusable, which is a shame.
Also:

* Suspend works, in that it goes to sleep (after a fast blinking of the
screen, which is probably due to a 'fade out' effect gone wrong), and
stops the computer. It appears to take a little longer than before, but
its not really an issue.

* However resume fails. Computer restarts ok, but then never reaches X
again. Sometimes, even Sysreqs don't work, showing a major kernel
freeze. This is bad, as the previous version of the driver worked about
one in three times (though sometimes causing the HD to grind, making
everything too slow).

So in conclusion my current experience with the latest driver causes
better graphics than the older one, and better overall stability.
However compiz is too slow to use, and resume fails. This may be a
configuration issue, so if anyone has any tips,...

I am using the generic 7.10 kernel, and have an ATI RADEON X700 embedded
card.

[Bug 150089] Re: mixer_applet2 (aka volume control applet) hogs CPU

2008-01-19 Thread orbisvicis
Bump to everything said

This could be dangerous on a dual core laptop, especially some dells
where the fans don't turn on till 70C and heat is an issue. Since
mixer_applet2 is not multithreaded, it only uses one core, (max 100%
cpu) and while everything heats up, the system nonetheless runs without
noticeable lag. Unless correctly configure lm-sensors and a fan-speed
control like 18k, this issue is virtually undetectable.

[Bug 91116] Re: ssh causes evil non-functional focus stealing dialog

2008-01-19 Thread fazulas
In my opinion there is no bug, and there is no need to remove seahorse
(although removing seahorse indeed removes the odd behaviour). Your
problem is that you must have a bogus password set up in seahorse.

Open Applications/Accessories/Passwords and Encryption Keys. In My
personal keys you probably have a dodgy secure shell key which is
causing the odd behaviour. Delete it ruthlessly. Now you can add a brand
new secure shell key (Key/Create New Key) if you wish to login ssh
sessions automatically (it does work flawlessly). If there are no secure
shell keys stored in seahorse, then you'll have to type your password
everytime you issue ssh from the console.

Regards

[Bug 163533] Re: FTBFS: asterisk_1:1.4.13~dfsg-1 on hardy/i386

2008-01-19 Thread Caroline Ford
This looks like it's fixed.
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/asterisk/1:1.4.17~dfsg-2 says
that 1:1.4.17~dfsg-2 built for everything except lpia

I presume that asterisk_1:1.4.13~dfsg-1 is now obsolete, replaced by
1:1.4.17~dfsg-2

[Bug 150089] Re: mixer_applet2 (aka volume control applet) hogs CPU

2008-01-19 Thread orbisvicis
Possibly related to the fact the mixer_applet2 doest control the sound
correctly on the usb devices anyway - changes to volume affect only one
channel, changing other channels or 'locking' the controls together seem
to temporarily increase cpu + not work

Anyway most likely not helpful. I cant seem to consistently reproduce this, if
anyone else has any clues?
like run a strace on the process id of mixer_applet2 when cpu is hogged?

[Bug 184273] All photos are shown in slideshow, instead of selected ones

2008-01-19 Thread Andy Balaam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

When I select one photo in f-spot, and press F5 to start a slideshow,
the photo I selected is displayed, as I would expect.

However, when I select 2 or more photos and press F5, the slideshow
starts from my first ever photo, and goes through ALL of my photos.

I would expect it to show a slideshow of only the photos I selected.

Note that the same thing happens if I choose View:Slideshow from the
menu instead of pressing F5.

[Bug 184275] [hardy] nomozi-source is not compiling

2008-01-19 Thread hirosh.dabui
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nozomi-source

Hello,

i updated today to your hardy distro and my needed nozomi source was not
working
anymore for the hardy kernel:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ uname -a
Linux ibm 2.6.24-4-generic #1 SMP Mon Jan 14 17:30:39 UTC 2008 i686
GNU/Linux

I wanted to compile the package, but it was not possible. So i started
to grep
in the linux source code and i found a solution:
The nozomi.c was not compiling, coz I have to change the following lines
in nomozi.c:

1356c1356
 if ( (rval = request_irq( pdev-irq, interrupt_handler, SA_SHIRQ,
NOZOMI_NAME, pdev )) ) {
---

   if ( (rval = request_irq( pdev-irq, interrupt_handler,

IRQF_SHARED, NOZOMI_NAME, pdev )) ) {

But i have to force the nozomi module by:

modprobe -f nozomi

That works for me

cheers,

Hirosh

[Bug 129783] Re: [Gutsy] Knetworkmanager fails to join wireless network

2008-01-19 Thread Benji
I recently upgraded to gutsy from feisty ... and Knetworkmanager failed
to list any wireless accesspoints or join wireless, tho iwconfig
revealed the device (eth1) was working and manually using dhcpcd to
setup the routing was successful (for a google test). The problem seems
to have been merely one of configuration. I edited the
/etc/network/interfaces, specifically, the non-working and seemingly
default looked like this:

#auto eth1
iface eth1 inet dhcp

And I uncommented the auto line, and commented out the iface line,
resulting in this:

auto eth1
#iface eth1 inet dhcp

Now network manager finds access points and connects automatically to my
wireless network.

[Bug 164589] Re: Occasional screen-wide blink when using compiz

2008-01-19 Thread Lorenzo Castellana
I've just noticed that, when it happens (the screen starts blinking
occasionally), video playback stop working correctly. For instance, I
was watching a video with Miro and surfing the web at the same time. The
screen started blinking suddenly for about two times in a minute. After
that, Miro video playback stopped working correctly. I've just made a
screenshot.

[Bug 184281] cpu usage at 100% when firefox tabs equal width of window

2008-01-19 Thread Melissa Draper
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

When the number of tabs open is the maximum the window width can
accomodate, it brings up scrolling arrows so you can open more. This is
typical behaviour. However, when these arrows are up, yet there are no
extra tabs to scroll through to (ie, you click the arrow and it moves
just a few pixels), firefox starts to use 100% CPU. The cpu drain goes
when you close a tab, or open a new one.

To reproduce:

- Open firefox
- Note cpu usage is low/normal
- Open just enough tabs to bring up the scroll arrows
- Note CPU usage is now 100% or near to it
- Close any one of the tabs or open a new one, and cpu usage goes back to normal

This can be reproduced with both full-screen and otherwise, but it's
easier to reproduce with full-screen as there's less calculation needed
to get the width/tabs right.

[Bug 178124] Re: USB Hard Drive randomly unmounted and mounted again

2008-01-19 Thread Michele Costantino Soccio
Some further infos.
I noticed that this happens expecially after I used the same hard drive with
another computer, a notebook with Windows XP, while after being attached to
another desktop computer (again with Windows XP). Could it be related to some
energy saving issue?
Maybe the notebook sets the hard drive to shutdown after some minutes, but
Ubuntu cannot handle this setting.
Is there any way to check energy saving settings on usb drives?

[Bug 184286] gocr crashed with seg fault clicking ok in settings

2008-01-19 Thread Danny Staple
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gocr

I started gtk-gocr, clicked on settings, then clicked ok and it crashed.

Seen in gutsy:

gocr-gtk:
  Installed: 0.41-1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.41-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 0.41-1ubuntu1 0
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com gutsy/universe Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The gocr-gtk-dbgsym and libgtk1.2-dbg symbols are installed, but the backtrace
was still not particularly helpful:

Same thing here. Tried: ls -l | gedit on latest gutsy.

[Bug 181452] UFS filesystem not automounted

2008-01-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: d3lphin

When inserting a CF unit with two UFS (OpenBSD) partitions, the unit
gets recognized, but the partitions are not mounted and produce
complaints.

The work-around is to mount manually:
  sudo mount -t ufs -o loop,ro /dev/sdc1 /mnt/

This is probably a problem with Konqueror or D3lphin.
