[Bug 225626] Re: Merge libnxml 0.18.2-3 from Debian(Unstable)

Since you still include /usr/share/cdbs/1/rules/clean-la.mk, I think
it's safe to keep a versioned cdbs in Build-depends.

[Bug 241068] Re: Problem with font size (too small) on a lot of pages

2008-06-19 Thread Petr.27
I am sorry, in main this is not problem with zoom tool.

Problem is that when I browse pages with default zoom, letters are very
small (and really it is on the most pages). You can see it on images. Of
course I tried to set default font-size bigger, minimal font-size etc.
but nothing of this helps (for example now I have font size 24 and
minimal font size also set to 24 and result is the same as you can see
it on the images) and always it is small as on the images.

In Firefox 2.0, there were no problem with this - default zoom was right
and pages look like in Opera (and also as in Firefox on Windows, IE
etc.). In Firefox 3.0 most of pages looks differently (and I must say
terrible :-().

In attach, there is picture from opera, on the same computer and same
operating system. There you can see the difference.

[Bug 204996] Re: Linux kernel 2.6.24-12 lockup

2008-06-19 Thread UbunG
I have kernel 2.6.24-19 also and this bug continues to be terrible. I
get lockups and freezes even if I'm not doing anything on my laptop. I
can step away and come back and my screen is frozen as well as my
harddrive. The harddrive activity indicator always remains "stuck" lit
during a freeze moment. Even while shutting my computer down, it will
freeze 99% of the time. And it's frustrating when typing an email
message, a freeze moment occurs. Thankfully, email services like Google
and Yahoo have an auto save protection feature during composing. If not,
composed email messages would be lost forever!

Is there any other way, than going back to Gutsy, I can fix these lock/freeze
issues? I don't want to have to wipe my hardrive clean and reinstall all the
programs I installed, especially since the only issue is the "lock/freeze"
problem.
Is there an updated kernel ready for installation or is there one in the making?

[Bug 237055] Re: New upstream version (0.26) available to be packaged

2008-06-19 Thread Luca Falavigna
You should move to Standards-Version: 3.8.0, also try to address these
lintian warnings:

W: nagcon source: debian-rules-ignores-make-clean-error line 51
N:
N: A rule in the debian/rules file for this package calls the package's
N: clean or distclean target with a line like:
N:
N:-$(MAKE) distclean
N: or
N:$(MAKE) -i distclean
N:
N: The leading "-" or the option -i tells make to ignore all errors.
N: Normally this is done for packages using Autoconf since Makefile may
N: not exist. However, this line ignores all other error messages, not
N: just the missing Makefile error. It's better to use:
N:
N:[ ! -f Makefile ] || $(MAKE) distclean
N:
N: so that other error messages from the clean or distclean rule will
N: still be caught (or just remove the "-" if the package uses a static
N: makefile).
N:
W: nagcon: description-contains-homepage
N:
N: The extended description contains a "Homepage:" pseudo-header
N: following the old Developer's Reference recommendation. As of 1.14.6,
N: dpkg now supports Homepage: as a regular field in debian/control. This
N: header should be moved from the extended description to the fields for
N: the relevant source or binary packages.

2008-06-19 Thread jd
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 234414 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/234414

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: aqsis-libsc2a

1) Description: Ubuntu 8.04
Release:8.04

2) aqsis-libsc2a:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 1.2.0-2
  Version table:
 1.2.0-2 0
500 http://ar.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Packages

3) When i type
apt-get install aqsis
I get this:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
aqsis: Depends: aqsis-libsc2a (>= 1.2.0) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

Seems aqsis-libsc2a depends on libopenexr2c2a but
libopenexr2c2a is replaced by libopenexr2ldbl which cannot be removed without
removing a lot of software.

4) I expect aqsis to be installed :-)

[Bug 241190] [NEW] cannot select sonyg420 monitor default res unusable

Public bug reported:

There is no driver for Sony g420 monitor (there used to be in Gutsy)
consequently a very low non adjustable resolution is set by default. This
cannot be changed in "settings, monitor " This is so bad as to render the
system unusable. eg I cannot burn dvds because I cannot get at the appropriate
buttons in the dialog box to do so. Resizing merely changes the width of the
dialog box in KB3 but cannot change the height. To me the 8.04 version of
Kubuntu is a very large backward step since for me it is unusable. ddcontrol
has been updated, trying to run
LANG= LC_ALL= ddcontrol -p -c -d does not work. It will not run. Am I the only

[Bug 241199] [NEW] Make .pub file assiocation with OpenOffice

[Bug 241196] [NEW] offline messages not available

2008-06-19 Thread Cormac Reynolds
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

ubuntu version: Ubuntu 8.04
package version: 2.0.0.14+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1

I use thunderbird to access my gmail account with IMAP. I have one
folder that I have marked for offline use. When I go offline, I tell
thunderbird to download messages for offline use, which it appears to
do. However, when I go to look for old messages in that folder, some of
them are unavailable, and give just the message:

"The body of this message has not been downloaded from the server for
reading offline", etc.,

while other messages of a similar age are available offline. The strange
thing is that if I use a text editor to examine the offline folder in my
thunderbird profile, I can find the messages that thunderbird claims are
not available offline. The full text of the message is available in the
folder and I can read it with my text editor. So the message was
correctly downloaded, but for some reason, thunderbird cannot find it in
its own folder. As soon as I go back online, thunderbird can find all
messages correctly again.

The folder that I mark to download is *very* big - almost 2 GB (it is
my gmail, 'All Mail' folder).

thanks in advance,
Cormac.

Re: [Bug 240043] Re: no mp3 sound in open office (impress) in ubuntu 8.04

2008-06-19 Thread nalinib
Hi Chris,

I am absolutely sure.

Let me elaborate my problem in detail.

If I use "insert" comand to insert the mp3 file it does play on my
machine also (as it did on your machine).

And in this case the media icon is shown.

But if you apply animation effect to any element on the slide and in
that animation if any sound is used the sound should play when that
animation plays.

And in this case no media icon is shown.

After I received your mail saying you could hear the sound I retested
the animation with mp3 file as well as default sounds included in open
office.  And I found that even default sound also do not play when
attached to an "animation".

Even though that default sound plays when "play" button (shown while
adding animation effect) is pressed.

I don't know whether this problem relates to ubuntu or open office
because the same version of open office has no problems in vista (I have
dual boot machine)

Thanks for your efforts

Looking forward to hear from you

regards

nalinib

Are you sure the mp3 is linked into that presentation? I didn't see the
media icon anywhere on the page. I added the mp3 to the presentation and
then saw it and heard the music play.

[Bug 112259] Re: [apport] lyx-qt crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-06-19 Thread Takmadeus
there is a temporal way to fix Alex La hurreau problem...

just type in the terminal

lyx newfile.lyx

it seems to happen because it crashes when it tried to load
introduction.lyx. I know the solution is not pretty but it should get
you working in the meantime

I think is a packaging problem, and this problem happens more frequently
than you would think (I have seen ity in quite some ubuntu boxes i have
installed)... so I hope it gets solved soon...

[Bug 241198] [NEW] gdm doesn't respect umask setting

2008-06-19 Thread Marcin Giedz
Public bug reported:

Hello at first I wanted to add this bug to existing one: #25910 gdm
doesn't take care of pam_umask settings but in my case I don;t use
pam_umask.

What I need is to let users create files/folders with extended
permissions - different than 022 which I think is again hardcoded in
gnome. I tried to change umask in ~/.profile and ~/.gnomerc as well as
/etc/X11/Xsessions.d/55gnome - nothing works :(

This is huge problem for me as most of volumes are mounted via NFS to
share amongst many users. But when user creates file/folder all I can
see is : 755 for folders which is not acceptable.

Can you confirm this bug or I;m missing something?

My Ubuntu is Hardy 8.04 with all updates.

Regards,
Marcin

[Bug 56302] Re: Issue with IPv6.

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since

** Description changed:

With IPv6 enabled on my only interface (eth0) I get the following error

[Bug 241209] [NEW] Want to use the autotools plugin

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

We moved the html documentation out from libtiff4 to libtiff4-dev

this change is no longer required and we can sync.

though unfortunately none of the ones opened in the debian bug
database!
  * Added upstream homepage to debian control file.

tiff (3.8.2-8) unstable; urgency=low

  * Accepted tmpfile patch tiff2pdf to fix bug that has been fixed
upstream since upstream release appears stalled. Thanks Jesse Long.
(Closes: #419773)
  * Update standards version to 3.7.3; no changes required.
  * ${Source-Version} -> ${binary:Version} in control
  * Split documentation into separate libtiff-doc package. (Closes:

[Bug 220208] Re: package nagios2-common 2.9-1 failed to upgrade:

2008-06-19 Thread Thierry Carrez
Analysis: both nagios2 and nagios2-common try to stop nagios2 in prerm.
The prerm in nagios2 tries to fail gracefully using a "|| true" stanza:

---
#!/bin/sh -e

# we attempt to stop nagios2 twice, once in nagios2-common's prerm
# and once here. otherwise, if nagios2+nagios2-common are being purged,
# the /usr/sbin/nagios2 binary could disappear before nagios2-common's
# prerm script runs, which would prevent it from being able to stop
# the binary.
if [ -x "/etc/init.d/nagios2" ]; then
if [ -x "`which invoke-rc.d 2>/dev/null`" ]; then
invoke-rc.d nagios2 stop || true
else
/etc/init.d/nagios2 stop || true
fi
fi
---

However, usage of "-e" option renders the "|| true" inefficient, prerm
returns 3 in invoke-rc.d fails, therefore breaking the update.

stani,

ugh, a world-readable and writable private SSL key? that's really,
really bad; how did that happen, just during a gutsy->hardy upgrade, or
did you configure that manually at some point?

Mohan,

actually I just asked whether the command worked, not to post the output
here. You just posted your private SSL key to the public, so I advise
you to generate a new one by doing:

  sudo make-ssl-cert generate-default-snakeoil --force-overwrite

But anyway it proves that user postgres can read the certificate, so I
wonder what's wrong with it.

[Bug 94743] Re: Terminal Server Client isn't able to copy to/from clipboard

2008-06-19 Thread |cyn|
RDPv5 doesn't fix it for me. I am back to using 'rdesktop -r
clipboard:CLIPBOARD' directly from the shell. This is pretty much a show
stopper for using linux when you have windows boxes in your
organization. I know it seems like a small thing, but till evolution is
stable with Exchange (and it's getting better, but still not close), we
are stuck using TS, VMs or wine for email.

Shell scripts are not really acceptable when you manage 10+ clients
running windows either.

I used the following to convert my rdp items into rdesktop shell scripts
that I can then add to a drawer in gnome (note the ~/bin directory must
exist):

cd ~/.tsclient
for i in *.rdp; do grep 'full address' $i | cut -d':' -f3 | while read j; do
echo '#!/bin/sh' > ../bin/$i.sh; echo rdesktop -5 -f -r clipboard:CLIPBOARD $j
>> ../bin/$i.sh; chmod 700 ../bin/$i.sh; done; done

[Bug 236676] Re: OpenOffice 2.4 in Hardy AMD64, Locking assertion failure

2008-06-19 Thread Dr. Rob Higgins
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 185311 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/185311

Similar problem after last ubuntu update that included upgrades for
openoffice.

However, the interesting thing here is that (as noted earlier) the
problem only occurred for my main user, and not a test user that I
switched to.

So, something about the gnome integration, and some other application or
config factor are causing this to happen to only some users on one
system.

Removed openoffice.org-gtk and openoffice now works.

[Bug 213162] Re: [Hardy] Compiz Fusion very slow

2008-06-19 Thread JofArnold
Makes me sad too... so sad I'm going to try OSX for a month and possibly
move to that. Until NVIDIA gets their act together, I've tried the
following with various degrees of success:

My fix
---
sudo apt-get install xserver-xgl

This works way better than any other solution for me, however xgl
doesn't work with all nvidia drivers (ok with the nvidia-glx-new 169.12
for me). XGL has some weird minor side-effects too, but mostly good for
me. 110fps versus 10fps with proper driver is an improvement!

Proper way

[Bug 138691] Re: system hangs at shutdown

2008-06-19 Thread Michael Nagel
@nick: from my observation the system hangs after unmounting the harddisks and
it should be rather save to forcefully power down the system then. it's in no
way a clean solution, though.
@ hiller: are you sure your problem is directly related to this bug? your
problem seems to be about fglrx whereas this bug is about network manager and
its companions. i do not use a realtime kernel, either but a plain generic one.

i'll try if uninstalling n-m is a workaround. what negativ side effects
am i about to experience?

[Bug 241223] [NEW] Please sync apt-show-versions 0.13 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2008-06-19 Thread Andrea Colangelo
Public bug reported:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

 affects ubuntu/apt-show-versions
 status confirmed
 importance wishlist
 subscribe ubuntu-archive

Please sync apt-show-versions 0.13 (universe) from Debian unstable
(main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

apt-show-versions switched from hardcoded release names list to a
dynamic approach, therefore adding ubuntu release names is not needed anymore.
debian/ubuntu-patches/ wasn't actually used before, and is useless now.

Changelog since current intrepid version 0.12ubuntu2:

apt-show-versions (0.13) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Andreas Hoenen ]
  * Replace hardcoded list of supported release names by dynamic determination
of used release names. This enables (among others) automatic support for
oldstable and for unofficial repositories.
(Closes: #161934, #165883, #200274, #344262, #396216, #475880)
  * Improve output format of option -a:
- Avoid repetition of the default-release version.
- Strictly sort versions by version number as primary criterion.
- Enforce tabular layout.
- Add an archive column to output.
  * Sort output by package names.
  * If specified package is not only not installed, but even not available
(e.g. a misspelled package name), dump an accordant comment.
  * When called with exactly one package and upgradeable option set for a
package that actually is not upgradeable, return with non zero exit code.
(Closes: #464047)
  * Correct combination of upgradeable and allversions options: If a package is
not upgradeable, without regard of allversions option nothing gets printed
for it.
  * Add --regex-all variation of option --regex: also show matching packages
which are not installed.
(Closes: #460272)
  * Actualize french manual page. Thanks, Jean-Baka Domelevo Entfellner.
(Closes: #460631)
  * Actualize swedish manual page. Thanks, Daniel Nylander.
(Closes: #470379)
  * Actualize spanish manual page. Thanks, Rubén Porras Campo.
(Closes: #470765)
  * Actualize FSF address in a-s-v script.
  * Actualize my mail address in debian/control.

  [ Christoph Martin ]
  * call closedir from correct position (closes: #479255)

[Bug 241229] [NEW] [Hardy] Kernel oops on AC<->DC

2008-06-19 Thread Yong Wang
Public bug reported:

The ACPI BIOSes of some problematic machines, e.g. Toshiba Satellite
L35, only export C1 when running on AC while the same machines support
more than C1 when running on battery. This results in
cpuidle_register_device not being called during system initialization
when running on battery. However, cpuidle_enable_device will be called
without cpuidle_register_device being called before when user switches
from AC to DC and _CST changed notification occurs, thus the oops.

[Bug 241230] [NEW] 2.6.24-19-generic kernel kills various things

2008-06-19 Thread hortimech
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 8.04
upgrade kernel to 2.6.24-19-generic, rebooted, got "computer running in low
graphics mode" wizard, reconfigured to Nvidia 8 graphic card and 1600x1200. no
matter what I do Xserver will only start X at 800x600.
finally rebooted using previous kernel 2.6.24-18-generic, Xserver started ok
at 1600x1200, only thing changed was selecting kernel. That was when I found
out (when going to /boot/grub/menu.lst to comment out the kernel) that my
keyboard layout had been changed to USA from UK.
there may be other problems I have not yet found, but I can say that wifi and
sound seem to be working ok on the 2.6.24-18-generic kernel, just as before
the kernel upgrade.

[Bug 241231] [NEW] wishlist: mozilla jss should be packed

2008-06-19 Thread Jorge Juan
Public bug reported:

JSS is commonly used to send electonically signed documents through the
web. It is included in Fedora and some other major distributions.

Current version is 4.2.5 (AFAIK), but many sites seem to only support
3.3, so it would not be a bad idea to package both versions.

It is a prospective package in Debian (libjss-java) which may help.

[Bug 202089] Re: Pulseaudio is blocking normal sound after resume

2008-06-19 Thread Mubashir Cheema
To fix this problem I did 2 things:

1. asoundconf set-pulseaudio
2. aptitude install libasound2-plugins

The first creates a .asoundrc.asoundconf in your home directory that
tells ALSA to use Pulse Audio. The second step may only be necessary
for people on 64-bit systems. I am not sure. I had to do it to get rid
of the "Cannot open shared library /usr/lib/alsa-
lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so" error.

Now everything is peachy. Hallelujah! Praise be to the Spaghetti
monster.

[Bug 240591] Re: cursor is not erased in old position in evolution

2008-06-19 Thread Travis Watkins
Looks like this is a problem with using loose binding with the nvidia
driver. As of right now we have to choose between these random redraw
problems or incredibly poor performance but apparently there is some
work going on upstream to make a sort of hybrid between loose binding
and strict binding that should fix this problem without sacrificing
performance.
