I solved it. You can reproduce the behavior: 1. Create a new user. 2. Switch to "Ubuntu Classic" 3. Add "nautilus" to the startup programs. 4. Log out, log back in. 5. Everything works fine. [Bug 377865] [NEW] khotkeys steal ctrl-w shortcut globally
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace After recent upgrade to kdebase-workspace 4:4.2.85-0ubuntu4 I noticed that I am unable to use ctrl-w shortcut to close my tabs&windows and to erase words in konsole command line (and probably other tasks requiring that shortcut). After some digging in System Settings (Keyboard&Mouse - Global shortcuts) I found that ctrl-w is globally remapped for khotkeys as 'Remap Ctrl-W to Ctrl-F4 in Qt Designer'. I had to revert this shortcut to default/none to recover former behaviour for my applications. Don't know if this global remapping was introduced in the upgrade, or it had been for some time in my user/home settings, and upgrade only triggered it by fixing some old bug. Anyway, I am not sure I used Qt Designer at all, but I learned some use of Ctrl-W shortcut in my apps and also I guess it is specified in some GUI standards, so please don't steal it from under my feet :> ** Affects: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- khotkeys steal ctrl-w shortcut globally https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/377865 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 374090] Re: Samsung NC20 installation problem(test pattern on screen)
It would be valuable to have the xorg.log from jaunty as well even though I realized that would be pretty hard to get. When you have USB booted into 9.04 jaunty and you see a distorted screen that looks a bit like Ubuntu running (not the usplash progress bar), is it then possible to press CTRL-ALT-F1 to get to a text based terminal? If so, maybe you can install the ssh package from there and scp the xorg.log to another computer? Also, I suspect jaunty tries to use the -openchrome driver on your machine so if you switch to vesa (the driver you used on 8.04) it might work better even though I'm not sure how to do that if the screen has graphics corruption. ** Tags removed: needs-lspci-vvnn ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => xserver-xorg-video-openchrome (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- Samsung NC20 installation problem(test pattern on screen) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/374090 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi Jarl, thank you for your interest in wader/VMC. To be honest it makes sense to package them both, they are established and have a significant user base, and they are going to co-exist for a long time. You might want to coordinate yourself with Alexander Sack ( @asac ), the Ubuntu NetworkManager maintainer, who expressed interest on packaging both projects too just a couple of days ago. @Facilys, can you attach the output of "xrandr --verbose" and also a copy of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf You can workaround this by launching gstreamer-properties and setting the video TAB to something other than XV. [Bug 377748] Re: Nautilus crashes during ".mkv" file properties looking
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. To Nik, you absolutely need Phonon for Amarok and Dragon Player. Both applications send sound (and video for the latter) through that layer. Make sure to also install and use the phonon-xine-backend, as gstreamer is not reliable. Also, do not use Pulseuadio with the Xine backend, this is known to cause problems. If you are a KDE user, I strongly suggest you remove (purge) pulseaudio, as there is aboslutely no need for it. To John, well, then you are amongst the happy few not bothered by Pulseaudio. [Bug 349519] Re: Switch Desktop Mode corrupted settings
I had the same problem. I'm using an Acer Aspire One model AOA 110-ab, and using the final version of Ubuntu netbook remix 9.04, installed from an USB pen. This is what I have done to fix the problem: I installed desktop-switcher_0.4.6_i386.deb, (tried changing desktop modes a few times, the same results). Then I tried the `gconftool-2 --set /desktop/gnome/session/required_components_list --type list --list-type=string ["windowmanager","panel","filemanager"]` command, that almost worked for me. Now I can change (and retain after a reboot) between classic and netbook, but in netbook mode the panel at the top right of the screen (where the network icon and the clock is) does not appear, even after a reboot. Only one more thing. I don't know if is really related, but when I change from netbook to classic, a error dialog flashes without giving time to read it, and then changes to classic mode just fine. -- Switch Desktop Mode corrupted settings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/349519 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
