[Bug 360905] Re: Network-Manager not seeing broadband card

2009-05-18 Thread Mikel Ward
>From looking at the source code, we have a udev test and a HAL test.

The udev path looks for ID_NM_MODEM_GSM=1 in the capabilities.

On my system, my Sierra device has:

$ sudo /sbin/udevadm info --query=env
--path=/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1e.0/:03:01.0/:04:00.0/usb8/8-1/8-1:1.0
UDEV_LOG=3
DEVPATH=/devices/pci:00/:00:1e.0/:03:01.0/:04:00.0/usb8/8-1/8-1:1.0
DEVTYPE=usb_interface
DRIVER=sierra
DEVICE=/proc/bus/usb/008/002
PRODUCT=1199/6820/2
TYPE=0/0/0
INTERFACE=255/255/255
MODALIAS=usb:v1199p6820d0002dc00dsc00dp00icFFiscFFipFF

So no GSM string.

But in the HAL path, it looks for 'GSM-07.07' in modem.command_sets,
which my system does have:

$ sudo lshal
[...]
udi =
'/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_1199_6820_noserial_if0_serial_usb_0'
  access_control.file = '/dev/ttyUSB0'  (string)
  access_control.type = 'modem'  (string)
  info.callouts.add = {'hal-acl-tool --add-device'} (string list)
  info.callouts.remove = {'hal-acl-tool --remove-device'} (string list)
  info.capabilities = {'serial', 'modem', 'access_control'} (string list)
  info.category = 'serial'  (string)
  info.parent =
'/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_1199_6820_noserial_if0'  (string)
  info.product = 'AC875 Device'  (string)
  info.subsystem = 'tty'  (string)
  info.udi =
'/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_1199_6820_noserial_if0_serial_usb_0'
(string)
  linux.device_file = '/dev/ttyUSB0'  (string)
  linux.hotplug_type = 2  (0x2)  (int)
  linux.subsystem = 'tty'  (string)
  linux.sysfs_path =
'/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1e.0/:03:01.0/:04:00.0/usb8/8-1/8-1:1.0/ttyUSB0/tty/ttyUSB0'
  (string)
  modem.command_sets = {'GSM-07.07', 'GSM-07.05'} (string list)
  serial.device = '/dev/ttyUSB0'  (string)
  serial.originating_device =
'/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_1199_6820_noserial_if0'  (string)
  serial.port = 0  (0x0)  (int)
  serial.type = 'usb'  (string)
[...]

Then the code says we trust udev over HAL...

/* Case (c): HAL thinks it's a modem, but udev doesn't */
nm_info ("(%s): ignoring due to lack of probed mobile broadband
capabilties", ttyname);
later = FALSE;

So I've got to make udev return that extra capability, which is
obviously what Alexander's patches are about, but at least know I know
why and how I might be able to help.

[Bug 371356] Re: vino-server eats a lot of cpu time with d-bus requests

2009-05-18 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Since last comment I purged and installed again vino

Now at restarting the system I have 2 instances of vino-server:

$ ps ax|grep vino
 3599 ?S  0:00 /usr/lib/vino/vino-server
 5908 ?D  0:00 /usr/lib/vino/vino-server --sm-config-prefix

 5910 pts/0R+ 0:00 grep vino

and now killall -9 vino-server stops vino from eating cpu time.

Unfortunatly after a reboot I have again the 2 instances of vino-server
and the consequent cpu-eating situation

[Bug 349519] Re: Switch Desktop Mode corrupted settings

2009-05-18 Thread Yuioup
I solved it. You can reproduce the behavior:

1. Create a new user.
2. Switch to "Ubuntu Classic"
3. Add "nautilus" to the startup programs.
4. Log out, log back in.
5. Everything works fine.

My suggestion to fix this bug is:

Add nautilus to the list of standard startup programs for all users.

[Bug 377865] [NEW] khotkeys steal ctrl-w shortcut globally

2009-05-18 Thread Wladimir Mutel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

After recent upgrade to kdebase-workspace 4:4.2.85-0ubuntu4 I noticed
that I am unable to use ctrl-w shortcut to close my tabs&windows and to
erase words in konsole command line (and probably other tasks requiring
that shortcut). After some digging in System Settings (Keyboard&Mouse -
Global shortcuts) I found that ctrl-w is globally remapped for khotkeys
as 'Remap Ctrl-W to Ctrl-F4 in Qt Designer'. I had to revert this
shortcut to default/none to recover former behaviour for my
applications.

Don't know if this global remapping was introduced in the upgrade, or it
had been for some time in my user/home settings, and upgrade only
triggered it by fixing some old bug. Anyway, I am not sure I used Qt
Designer at all, but I learned some use of Ctrl-W shortcut in my apps
and also I guess it is specified in some GUI standards, so please don't
steal it from under my feet :>

[Bug 374090] Re: Samsung NC20 installation problem(test pattern on screen)

2009-05-18 Thread Martin Olsson
It would be valuable to have the xorg.log from jaunty as well even
though I realized that would be pretty hard to get. When you have USB
booted into 9.04 jaunty and you see a distorted screen that looks a bit
like Ubuntu running (not the usplash progress bar), is it then possible
to press CTRL-ALT-F1 to get to a text based terminal? If so, maybe you
can install the ssh package from there and scp the xorg.log to another
computer? Also, I suspect jaunty tries to use the -openchrome driver on
your machine so if you switch to vesa (the driver you used on 8.04) it
might work better even though I'm not sure how to do that if the screen
has graphics corruption.

[Bug 164369] Re: [needs-packaging] Vodafone Mobile Connect Card Driver for Linux

2009-05-18 Thread Pablo Martí
Hi Jarl,

thank you for your interest in wader/VMC. To be honest it makes sense to
package them both, they are established and have a significant user
base, and they are going to co-exist for a long time. You might want to
coordinate yourself with Alexander Sack ( @asac ), the Ubuntu
NetworkManager maintainer, who expressed interest on packaging both
projects too just a couple of days ago. Both projects already sport a
debian dir, so it should be a matter of checking that the packaging
conforms with Ubuntu/Debian guidelines.

Regards,
Pablo

Hi all,

I've noticed another strange thing about eject of my SD.

In standard configuration if I use xfce4-mount-device-plugin to mount
and dismount my SD plugged into the notebook internal reader, all works
ok with no errorsbut with my workaround descripted above I've no
errors using right-click command "eject".but an unmount error if I
use the dismount command of xfce4-mount-device-plugin.

Thanks all,

[Bug 377871] [NEW] Please sync keysafe 0.4.1 (universe) from debian unstable (gnome)

2009-05-18 Thread Kow
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: keysafe

All of the ubuntu changes from the previous version have been merged
into debian. There is 1 ubuntu change that will 'kind of' be dropped:

This is how ubuntu did the python 2.6 transition:
-#! /usr/bin/env python2.4
+#! /usr/bin/python

This is how debian did it:
-#! /usr/bin/env python2.4
+#! /usr/bin/env python

Please read http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-
list/2008-May/489190.html The short answer is: debian's python call
method is better because it doesn't single out a particular location.
Case: User installs python to weird directory and fixes PATH but
/usr/bin/python links to the one they don't want to use. A package
should not assume it's language interpreter will always be located at
that location.

[Bug 370574] Re: After updated Ubuntu 8.04 to 9.04, Totem 2.26.1 no read video

2009-05-18 Thread Martin Olsson
@Facilys, can you attach the output of "xrandr --verbose" and also a
copy of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf

You can workaround this by launching gstreamer-properties and setting
the video TAB to something other than XV. However, you are likely to see
very very high CPU usage so it's not a long term solution.

Another way to workaround it would be to use a smaller total resolution.
Do you have a dual monitor config for this box?

Relevant errors from xorg.log includes:

  (EE) intel(0): Cannot support DRI with frame buffer width > 2048.
  (EE) intel(0): Failed to pin xv buffer

[Bug 377748] Re: Nautilus crashes during ".mkv" file properties looking

2009-05-18 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

 If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

 If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
 I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 349847] Re: no sound in amarok

2009-05-18 Thread Myriam Schweingruber
To Nik,
you absolutely need Phonon for Amarok and Dragon Player. Both applications send
sound (and video for the latter) through that layer.
Make sure to also install and use the phonon-xine-backend, as gstreamer is not
reliable.
Also, do not use Pulseuadio with the Xine backend, this is known to cause
problems. If you are a KDE user, I strongly suggest you remove (purge)
pulseaudio, as there is aboslutely no need for it.

To John,

well, then you are amongst the happy few not bothered by Pulseaudio.
Could be related to your hardware, but it is certainly not the
recommended way to go for KDE applications, as none of those uses
Pulseaudio.

authority or resposibility for whatever issues or problems arise from my
builds on the Ubuntu/Debian lazarus-ide package. Rather my notice to you is
informative and as a courtesy given your interest in this package.

[Bug 377875] [NEW] [945G/GZ] no direct rendering after upgrade to KMS/intel-2.7.1

2009-05-18 Thread Marcin Giedz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

What I did was basically ran KMS on Jaunty using 2.6.30-5 from PPA and intel
from:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu jaunty main

there is no flickery which is really great.

[Bug 377860] Re: while on AC power, boot report that "on battery power, file system check skipped"

2009-05-18 Thread Shannon
I am using a Benq Joybook A52.

sudo on_ac_power ; echo $
$

I wonder if my problem is related to #89752 or not, how do I check?
Also, although I think the "quite" parameter is sent to kernel, the boot
splash is still not showing properly (i.e. after a while it shows me
detailed message on screen instead of the progress bar screen) is it
because of this problem (that the kernel decide to disable splashy so
that it can show me something)?

Thanks!

Perhaps I can get some discussion on this. I'm getting feedback that

see this as a major issue right now so we could simply sync now and

interpreter is making sure the correct python is getting called (the one
the package was built against.)

[Bug 349519] Re: Switch Desktop Mode corrupted settings

2009-05-18 Thread Spyd
I had the same problem. I'm using an Acer Aspire One model AOA 110-ab,
and using the final version of Ubuntu netbook remix 9.04, installed from
an USB pen.

This is what I have done to fix the problem:
I installed desktop-switcher_0.4.6_i386.deb, (tried changing desktop modes a
few times, the same results).
Then I tried the `gconftool-2 --set
/desktop/gnome/session/required_components_list --type list --list-type=string
["windowmanager","panel","filemanager"]` command, that almost worked for me.
Now I can change (and retain after a reboot) between classic and netbook, but
in netbook mode the panel at the top right of the screen (where the network
icon and the clock is) does not appear, even after a reboot.

Only one more thing. I don't know if is really related, but when I
change from netbook to classic, a error dialog flashes without giving
time to read it, and then changes to classic mode just fine.

[Bug 340432] Re: package bzr 1.3.1-1ubuntu0.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-05-18 Thread Tim Cook
No, sorry I do not. This was during an upgrade from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04
*BUT* bzr had mysteriously stopped working previously saying that it
could not find bzrlib. I checked the PYTHONPATH and in fact bzrlib was
in the PYTHONPATH using Python 2.5.2

I've tried reinstalling the bundle and that still fails. Not much
output from that either. Can you give me some hints to completely purge
bzr so I can retry installation?

Thanks,
Tim

[Bug 377860] Re: while on AC power, boot report that "on battery power, file system check skipped"

2009-05-18 Thread Shannon
Dave, yes I replied that bug, but this time the situation is a bit
different. On bug #350746, my problem is that while I boot on AC-power,
battery status is missing only if I boot on battery, and switch to AC
after boot, or I unplug AC power after boot and re-plugin the battery
info appears.

This must be a new bug. I vaguely remember it starts since I use ubuntu
810. I don't have such problem using Arch Linux, Mandriva 2009.0...

rightclick->propertoes->permissions and set the permission to
