[Bug 398077] [NEW] No apparent way to restore default session start programs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-session Dear friends, I think that there should be a way to tell which session startup programs are from the default set. Also, I think that there should be a way to restore them. For example, if a user deletes by accident the evolution alarm notifier, he might not even know which one he accidentally deleted and he might miss an appointment! Perhaps there should be a warning/confirmation dialog before deletion. Many blessings. [Bug 397412] Re: brasero fails when burning DVD
Having read an article about bugs in wodim and all sorts of controversy with the original cdrtools, I managed to replace the cdrecord and mkisofs on my system with 'originals' from http://cdrecord.berlios.de/private/cdrecord.html A simulation burn passed but my delight was short lived as again, an error occurred halfway through the write and the log shows the same issue: BraseroCDRecord stderr: cdrecord: Input/output error. write_g1: scsi sendcmd: no error Does it matter that I'm using SATA hdd and dvdrw? The drive controller in my system is : Intel Corporation 82801FR/FRW (ICH6R/ICH6RW) SATA Controller (rev 03) I'll now revert my system back to the original wodim packages and I'll investigate what this 'write_g1: scsi sendcmd: no error' is all about. -- brasero fails when burning DVD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/397412 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 398078] Re: Sync w2do 2.2.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).
Hi One comment on this: the upload has apart from the minor debian/* packaging changes the following changes included in the new upstream part: - 2009-06-29 Jaromir Hradilek * src/w2do.pl, src/w2html.pl, src/w2text.pl: Increased version for a release. * src/w2do.pl: Improved statistics listing. Statistics now include finished / all tasks ratio for both per group and overall progress. 2009-06-28 Jaromir Hradilek * src/w2do.pl: Fixed issue with `leaking' colours. Coloured output should now work correctly in most terminal emulators. * src/w2do.pl: Fixed statistics listing. Overall progress bar is no longer displayed when the task list is empty. - Thus in particular the color-output problem is solved. And therefore it would be really good to have 2.2.2-1 in karmic instead of 2.2.1-1. A preliminary package for testing is in my PPA: https://edge.launchpad.net/~carnil/+archive/ppa?field.name_filter=w2do&field.status_filter=published&field.series_filter=karmic Kind regards Salvatore -- Sync w2do 2.2.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/398078 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 374404] Re: poor image quality rescaling
@Tom Jaeger, I think the original poster referred to downscaling. However, I've only been able to reproduce anomalies when upscaling. Having said this, I checked bug #217908 but it refers to blurred images when upscaling. In the example attached above, the image is not blurred when scaled but distorted (straight lines in the original are broken in the upscaled version) so it appears to be a different problem. I'll check if the smooth scaling packages in your PPA solves this issue when I am back home and have access to the laptop that shows this issue (so sometime w/c 20th July). Zuban, if you can do the same and check whether Tom's smooth scaling packages solve your problem, that'd be great. [Bug 130055] Re: Nautilus audio convert script doesn't activate itself
To everyone still having problems: the problem is that the fix is broken. (The nautilus-scripts system itself is almost broken) Currently, the fix just enables the script for the user installing the package. This means that if user A types "sudo apt-get install nautilus-script-audio-convert" , user B will still have to manually install the script. But there's more (and more urgent, that's why I'm reopening the bug): if user A installs the package and user B tries to uninstall it, then dpkg breaks because the postrm script doesn't find the file it should unlink. Notice it's really not unrealistic even in mono-user systems, since it can be reproduced by just: sudo apt-get install nautilus-script-audio-convert sudo su apt-get remove nautilus-script-audio-convert On this point, I'd ask Emmet to modify his scripts by adding tests if file exists before trying to remove it. On the more general issue of improving nautilus scripts useability for all users, I'll try to do some work, but I'll open a different bug. ** Changed in: audio-convert (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released => Confirmed -- Nautilus audio convert script doesn't activate itself https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/130055 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also moved away /etc/readahead/desktop, but it does not help. Most often it hangs before X has started, I still see the _ cursor in the upper left corner. [Bug 393095] Re: USB-Printer (and other usb-devices) error after upgrade to 2.6.28-13-generic kernel/alsa-driver-linuxant messes up usb
Last comment, hopefully: The soundsystem installed with kernel 2.6.28-13-generic is the alsa-driver 1.0.20, while the older kernel still uses an older alsa-version, which as far as I know didn't break the usb-devices. So maybe the developers of alsa have to work together with those colleagues who work on the kernel, who try to find a solution to the errors with usb-devices (error -110) etc. That one might be regression anyway, the last time I had this kind of problem with usb-devices was with gutsy or hardy. [Bug 349412] Re: GMA950 + external lcd does not work on high resolution
Today I tried Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 2. No change at all.. Only loss of wallpaper and everything except the cursor, which was normal in laptop screen and horizontally distorted on 2nd monitor. I tried EXA and UXA also. Offtopic: performance on glxgears was once 1000FPS, now on 9.04 about 400, and 9.10 300 on exa and uxa also. I know it's, it's alpha. [Bug 398110] [NEW] add account dialog is confusing
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy it is confusing to add a new account to empathy. it is not clear what to do, and if you get it wrong your account is silently forgotten. 1: start empathy (with no saved accounts). it brings up the Accounts dialog. 2: select salut, and click create. now i can see the account on the left, with add and remove buttons below it, there are input fields on the right, and a close button 3: i put in a first name, and nick name, (leaving the last name blank, as there is no indication that i need to fill it in) 4: now should i press 'add' to add the account i just made? should i press close? i would expect an 'ok' button but it is not there. 5: i press 'add', now i get asked type of account to make, so that must have been wrong. i press cancel, and i am back at the salut setup, but my details are gone. so i type them in again. 6: i try pressing close instead, the dialog goes away, and i am at the main contact list screen. no indication of if it worked, so i go back to accounts to check. and there are no accounts there. a bit more playing finds that you need to put in a first and last name, but nick name is optional. i know the gnome HIG discourages ok/apple buttons (http://library.gnome.org/devel/hig-book/stable/windows-utility.html.en#windows-instant-apply ), but possibly this is a case where it would be needed under the second condition "the changes in the window have to be applied simultaneously to prevent the system entering a potentially unstable state. For example, the hostname and proxy fields in a network properties window." an IM account with incomplete details, is not a useful or stable state. another solution would be a message telling you that the account details are incomplete, and what you need to add. eg "This account cannot be create until the fields 'First name' and 'Last name' are completed" "This account cannot be create until the field 'Last name' is completed" ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Sat Jul 11 10:21:41 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 Package: empathy 2.27.3-2ubuntu2 ProcEnviron: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-2.17-generic SourcePackage: empathy Uname: Linux 2.6.31-2-generic x86_64 ** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug -- add account dialog is confusing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/398110 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

My xorg.conf is blank.] Open video in mplayer, let it play, & stop the video - leave mplayer open. Open video in a new instance of mplayer: the video stays in its window when moved, all compiz effects (Alt-Tab, wobble, cube, etc.) work with the video staying inside its window. The original mplayer instance can be closed at any time after the second has started. [This might work in totem as well, but I do not know how to open multiple instances of totem.] Once all instances of mplayer are closed, you have to re-do the workaround for it to work again. -- (Needs UXA/DRI2) 3D stuff breaks with Compiz: Redirected Direct Rendering is needed in DRI https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/96991 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm this bug. If I look at Julian's comment in bug #384987 it is suggested that both aufs-modules and aufs-sources should be removed from Karmic and AUFS2 should be used instead. [Bug 396928] Re: Firefox 3.5 identifies as Shiretoko
This has to be one of the more obscure & odd decisions made in Ubuntu. I installed the package firefox-3.5 and went to run it (I use KDE4) - hit Alt+F2 type "firefox" and both Firefox 2 and 3 turn up in KRunner results. No trace of Firefox 3.5. Check Kickoff and there is no trace of Firefox 3.5 in the menus either. Recheck that the firefox-3.5 package has been installed correctly.. yep it is. Search again for the browser and I notice something with firefox-like logo called "Preview Browser, Shiretoko Web Browser" in the Kickoff menu.. Open it and what looks 100% like Firefox launches. All this does is serve to confuse the end user. When nearly everyone on the planet refers to Mozilla Firefox as "Firefox" it seems an odd decision to suddenly start referring to it as a special Ubuntu codename. At this point I'm still unsure whether or not I have the stable version of Firefox 3.5 installed on my machine (and I need to know that for website development). This may be "by design" but it's design by committee. In addition, quoting an obscure website that seems to have nothing to do with Ubuntu and which includes what looks like a quote from an IRC log with an apparent reason behind this decision just serves to confuse things even further. Why on earth can't it just be called "Firefox 3.5" so it's at least findable? I note that my non-default Firefox 2.0 (which I have installed for website testing purposes) is called "Web Browser, Firefox 2 Web Browser" in kickoff.
