[Bug 538682] Re: New HFS+ partition not labeled correctly in partition table

2010-03-19 Thread Azrael3000
Okay that is good news. In the thread on ubuntuforums there has been
another bug reported by user coffeecat that is somewhat related. I may
quote him here:

Anyway, to continue... I think I've discovered another bug in Gparted.
If you create a "mac" type partition table (I think that's the older
Apple Partition Map, not GUID) you get the odd little partition 1 which
is actually the partition map. If you then try to create a partition in
the unallocated space, it fails with an error. The "details" file
reports "Cannot have overlapping partitions." If you move the start
point for the new partition so that there is unallocated space between
it and the 31.5KiB so-called sdx1, the new partition is created just OK.
And Snow Leopard was quite happy with it - reading and writing to it OK.

Any information on this one?

Hi SpooZ,

The warning reported here typically indicates that it took longer for
your system to resume from suspend than expected. I believe there is a
5 sec barrier which your system likely exceeded. Based on your dmesg
output I see PM: resume devices took 10.640 seconds. I'm setting this
to traiged for further investigation. Thanks!

[Bug 541416] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.32/kernel/power/suspend_test.c:53 suspend_test_finish+0x89/0x90()

2010-03-19 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi Tom,

The warning reported here typically indicates that it took longer for
your system to resume from suspend than expected. I believe there is a
5 sec barrier which your system likely exceeded. Based on your dmesg
output I see PM: resume devices took 10.468 seconds. I'm setting this
to traiged for further investigation. Thanks!

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately.]

I haven't been using Ubuntu all that often since the issue. I had a great
solution in the older version but found a problem when installing the new
ubuntu version. I will check again and see if there are any changes.

Ubuntu is being eco-unfriendly by not fixing this problem. It means
stations have to avoid power-save mode to keep their wireless usable.

This problem occurs regularly on my ThinkPad X200s. I just need to leave
it up and running during the night (on WiFi connection). See my bug
540709.

There are around 10 duplicate bugs, first reports were reporting on
Karmic (beta time) and none of them have received any feedback from
developers. I will close all of them as duplicate as this one (which is
the only one with some discussion).

[Bug 532633] Re: [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to "menu:minimize, maximize, close"

2010-03-19 Thread Yann
Looking back at this thread, the issue seems completely misunderstood by
Ubuntu representatives.

Maybe to understand the debate, it should be made clear that this is the
straw that broke the camel's back!

Someone hereupper complain about regressions every 6 months... the most
annoying and not quirkable maybe the wifi: In a world where more laptops
are now shipped than desktops, do you think this is a minor issue? As
well as constant changes in acpi/power management that break suspend
since... Dapper! No, it's not.

For wifi, since ipw replacement by iwl, Intel boards (so widely shipped
in centrino based laptops) are subject to regressions since 2 years (and
latest LTS, still not reliable): Yesterday I tried the lucid dailly
build ISO (probably what will be the b1): My 3945 was at 60% strenght,
limited to the worst modulation sheme (that limit wifi g BW to 1Mb/s!),
3 meters from AP... That's worse than hardy...

More surprising, I'm now trying alternatives: One of them caught my
attention, PCLinuxOS. Same iwl driver, but full strenght and BW, a beta
that works like a charm from live USB with nvidia proprietary drivers
loaded: Never seen that before.

I don't know if I'll keep hardy till next year support end... and switch
to Debian 6.0 that should be there meantime... or try something that is
still more on the edge, but with users in mind (because sticky to the
basis, as ubuntu at the beginning: Good HW support, acceptable
reliability, clean interface without social networking stupidity/Apple
bad copy. Hassle free rolling release: Another user centric feature
delayed by ubuntu by 6 months... every 6 months!)... but upgrading to
lucid is no more in my plans even if a full reinstall bothers me.

The confusion between what democraty should trigger (general long term
distribution orientation, usability priorities...) and what meritocraty
should apply to in ubuntu process (kernel/driver expertise, applicative
sw test and integration)... is really worth reading!

Perhaps I can try to run Lucid Lynx. However the problem is easily
solvable (we found out by incident) by building the latest kernel with
RT path from Ingo Molnar

[Bug 494373] Re: gnome-network-properties sets $http_proxy incorrectly

2010-03-19 Thread gatchan
The bug seems fixed in Lucid.

I would just remark on the screen encoding the proxy. If I chose to
manually configure the proxy and I begin with http:// encoding, the
following letter removes the http:// (ok), but puts the cursor at the
start line. Before the last letter that I encoded. It would be fairer to
put the cursor at the end of encoding for the strikes continue without
error.

RichardN,

You are right. The problem is that I'm the only person that try to take care of
linux realtime package in Ubuntu.
This isn't a little task (test the upstream version, release a new Ubuntu
version, bug triage, reply to answer, try to fix bugs and others) so, at the
moment, I don't have enough power for provide updates through SRU Stable
Release Update (that is updates after that an Ubuntu is released:

For Lucid I provide kernels in a bit little different way to mitigate the above
mentioned problems:

2010-03-19 Thread elijah
> The current system does support appending or replacing,

Yes, but those abilities are not possible with notify-send.

Hence, these bugs:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libnotify/+bug/257135

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=559544

> You should maybe come with concrete example of things that
> the current design is limiting which would benefit users

I have three audio devices, and I have a script to cycle the
current sink to use the next device. Currently, with the broken
notify-send, if I hit a hotkey to cycle to the next device I am unable
to see which current device is active unless I pause for 5 seconds
each time I want to switch devices. This makes notify-send totally
useless.

It seems as if the Ubuntu UI developers have a deep seated inability
to contemplate the possibility that other people have useful and
productive things to say. What a nice way to treat people who are
basically volunteering their labor to help make Ubuntu better.

Ah, I see. Well, it would certainly be nice if gvfs would also get
along with the player through the libgphoto backend, so that you can
also browse files in nautilus, etc.

Unfortunately I only have a Samsung U5 here, which speaks both UMS and
MTP. So in gvfs/nautilus I see the mount, and if I open RB it unmounts
and uses libmtp.

So if m-t-p knows about an MTP device, I don't see why it would hurt
to set the actual mpi file instead of just "1" (what the libgphoto
rules do).

Well, 95% of mtp is a direct import of hal-info's music-player
database by now; it's not unlikely that this also contained MTP
players.

Agreed. I'd like to fix the test, too. I'll get to that soon.

It's fine. mpi bugs are tracked on bugs.freedesktop.org these days,
but since I'm upstream I don't care much whether it's on fd or LP :)

No. With the no-acpi option I can install lucid, but after the first boot it
still crashes. Blue bars start to move from left to right but after 20% of the
size the virtual machine crashes.

modinfo radeon

there is dynclk that is same ClockGating in UMS xorg.conf.

KMS power management is still in development and quite unstable. First
version is in 2.6.34-rc1 but it has quite a few hard lock and GPU
freeze problems.

Of course it would be nice if there was sysfs files to set the power
management options from user space but that would need some coding.

[Bug 499378] Re: indicator-applet-session crashes on startup

2010-03-19 Thread mrandrzejak
This is not just about one applet. Several people are experiencing these
app errors on startup. Try a search on "The panel encountered a problem
while loading" which is the first half of the error message.

I believe my problems started after I installed Kubuntu on top of my
Ubuntu. Logging out and back in does not recreate the problem and the
apps that did not load, are working again. Im using 9.10 and had the
errors, now upgraded to 10.04 alpha 3 and still experiencing the errors.
