This is still the case with Lucid. I change to no in my local config and now ssh is faster. I think it is important for user experience to set this to no by default and anyone needing it can then enable it manually. This is because this bug has now created the impression that ssh when using ubuntu/linux is slow or has a long delay. This is not good from a general experience point of view. [Bug 394570] Re: Backspace via SSH only deletes last byte of characters (no IUTF8 handling, requires standardisation work)
I don't understand: why does it require an extension to SSH protocol? Sure, one possible way would be to make ssh forward this bit of information. However, the IUTF8 flag should be set consistently with the locale (the character set part), which is not forwarded by ssh either - but still set on the server. Another approach could be to do whatever happens to the locale: when you log on remotely, someone sets this environment variable for you. Whoever does this (pam, login script, whatever) could also modify the terminal settings, couldn't it? Taking this approach, you don't need to modify the protocol, just make sure that whenever someone logs in via ssh, they don't only get $LANG and stuff but also the stty iutf8 bit set correctly. Moreover, I believe the meaning of /sys/module/vt/parameters/default_utf8 is that every newly allocated terminal gets the iutf8 flag set automatically to this value by the kernel. Should the ssh server or login procedure be unable to get the locale information, they ought to respect whatever is set here. This yet again doesn't require extending the protocol. -- Backspace via SSH only deletes last byte of characters (no IUTF8 handling, requires standardisation work) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/394570 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

This is the same bug as 590570, but this one has been around longer. I think the real issue underlying this bug is in bug 525154 which relates to a race condition while starting portmap which in turn starts statd. This only seems to be an issue if you have /var as a separate mount point where /var is not mounted when statd is started. Note that AppArmor was off for this process, so the workaround was either: a) restarting libvirt b) restarting libvirt with apparmor off (would this matter?) c) started libvirt by hand (clearing something?) d) magic -- libvirt error starting domin: could not remove profile for https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607466 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
Passable stability with drover git716, random screensavers cycle for several hours, with eventual freezes on open GL (implying that perhaps upgrade to Mesa 7.8.2 might be in order). Upon freeze, X does not crash, and desktop can be recovered, however, attempting to open the screensaver control panel will crash the system. On other occasion, X will be brought down (green light on monitor, X cannot be recovered), or system will be brought down (monitor indicates no signal). In either event system is working well under applications such as google Earth. Lucid solution is close, hopefull this will be fully resolved in Maverick. [Bug 607084] [NEW] Fetching POP3 Mail in KMail sometimes fails

Re: [Bug 578137] Re: gallery2 2.3 php 5.3 incompatibility
Jean-Baptiste Lallement [2010-07-17 21:57 -]: Charlie, no they aren't there any more since they are removed in the old postrm and that's what this sru is intended to fix. You should probably specifically handle the upgrade from version 2.3-1ubuntu2 and recreate the directories, without forgetting to save the config files in /etc/gallery2 prior to the execution of the old-postrm. This can be done in the preinst script. It should copy/move away the files/dirs, and then the postinst script can move them back on upgrade. -- gallery2 2.3 php 5.3 incompatibility https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578137 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 373158] Re: tracker IO activity slows down ubuntu 9.04
This issue is definitely still present in 10.04 (64bit), I'm seeing it with a fresh install. What I was running 9.04 I played with the tracker performance slider (which appears to control the process's nice value?) but did not notice any perceived change. The freezes appeared to occur relatively late during the indexing, so there may be issues with large indexes. I have a lot of source code and pdf documents on the index. To me the whole problem appears as if tracker was holding a lock on a file which is also used by many others. So, in fact, the less CPU time tracker gets, the more others have to wait for it (aka priority inversion). I think the issue is a crying shame, as it has been in (oops, there it happened again, a 5 second freeze with Firefox getting greyed out) ubuntu since at least 3 releases, and now even is in an LTS. [Bug 404331] Re: X locks up when scrolling on Radeon Mobility M6 LY
Unfortunately, I think this was never resolved. On upgrading karmic to lucid, the problem re-emerged, even though I was using the Option DRI false workaround. I've been suffering lockups/crashes at about the same frequency, every 2-3 hours say, for several months (except when I use Windows, which is very tempting - there's a additional and probably separate problem that lucid never resumes successfully from hibernate or suspend.) Again, the lockups are most common when scrolling in Firefox or switching between windows (as if it's a DMA/timing thing?). Again, there's often a corruption of the scroll bar visible either side of the slider, and the bottom 10% of the window hasn't scrolled. However, what happens next differs from the problem as in hardy-jaunty with DRI true. At approximately equal frequency it may be one of: a) The cursor is still moving but the screen not updating (eg I have system monitor in the top panel and it stops). CPU usage is not particularly high. The only thing I can do in Gnome is click on the buttons on the taskbar to minimise applications, and Gnome will redraw the desktop background correctly. I can use Ctrl+Alt+F1 to switch to a text console and reboot cleanly. I've tried taking a screenshot of this state, but it has been saved as a distorted PNG. b) There is a complete freeze: the corruption in the Firefox window may be visible, but the cursor won't move. Even Alt+SysRq+E keys won't work and I have to manually power-cycle. c) As b, but the screen blanks after a fraction of a second, and remains blank. I know in this situation Alt+SysRq won't do anything. With a different Xorg configuration (I may have changed AccelMethod, plus there have been some xorg driver upgrades) I've also seen X/gdm crash and restart after a): (II) Sleep Button: Close (II) UnloadModule: evdev (II) Power Button: Close (II) UnloadModule: evdev ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log I got a backtrace from a) but never uploaded it, as it wasn't very revealing: #0 0x00daa422 in __kernel_vsyscall () #1 0x0040b93d in ___newselect_nocancel () at ../sysdeps/unix/syscall-template.S:82 #2 0x080a3f77 in WaitForSomething (pClientsReady=0x9b74aa0) at ../../os/WaitFor.c:229 #3 0x080721b0 in Dispatch () at ../../dix/dispatch.c:375 #4 0x08066d7a in main (argc=8, argv=0xbfc3a6d4, envp=0xbfc3a6f8) at ../../dix/main.c:285 -- X locks up when scrolling on Radeon Mobility M6 LY https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
