[Bug 236105] Re: Missing socket for FastCGI in Lighttpd
I seriously doubt this. lighty first creates the socket, then tries to spawn the backend, so if the socket creation/bind would fail, it wouldn't event fork. And i can't imagine that your sudo commands fix anything (even if your /tmp permissions would be broken and not allow lighty to create a socket in it). Use strace on lighty (strace -ff lighttpd -D -f /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf) to see what happens. otoh, i guess this is way too old to find out what really happened. -- Missing socket for FastCGI in Lighttpd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236105 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 617392] Re: Inappropriately uses notification bubble and Install Drivers menu
** Description changed: Ubuntu Maverick alpha 3 + Ubuntu Maverick daily 20100910 After installing Maverick and running it for the first time, a notification bubble appears saying that you can install extra hardware drivers. Unhelpfully, it gives no hint of how to do this. If you're lucky, you may notice a menu appearing in the panel, containing a single item: Install Drivers. But if you're not an Ubuntu expert, and weren't looking at the screen for the ten seconds that the notification bubble was visible, this menu isn't understandable. This is an inappropriate use of notification bubbles and status menus. This situation is non-urgent but requires input response, so the appropriate presentation is a normal window or alert box. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NotificationDesignGuidelines I can think of three ways this bug could be fixed (maybe there are more): * Use an alert box instead, with Cancel and Install… buttons. * Open the Hardware Drivers window directly, improving the intro text to explain why it is open. * Offer the hardware drivers, off by default, in their own section in Update Manager. [Bug 633332] Re: update 10.04 - 10.10 fails on PowerMac G4
here is the result: After replacing my Geforce 4Mx with some ATI Rage 128 Pro graficscard I installed 10.04 from scratch, added the updates and the smp-kernel. Then I did update-manager -d to install 10.10 (beta). After reboot, the system comes up with (almost) no problem. The resolution is inadaequate - seems the ATI-card isn't used to it's limits or the monitor isn't detected correctly. But the system as such is up and running. :-) So it _is_ a problem with Xorg and Geforce MX graficscards. Since there are a lot of those cards out there, I consider this bug as important. Whom may I contact to offer some beta-testing or development-assistance in this regards? -- update 10.04 - 10.10 fails on PowerMac G4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/62 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 628087] Re: Maverick ubiquity lacks option to change computer name
Mark, Thanks for the reply. Some things to consider I think are, having simplified something what the alternatives are for someone; in this case if they want to do it they end up having to edit a critical system config file or two as root. So yes, it is a very slight simplification of the installer, but for someone who wants to set the name it's a VAST complication - could you explain to someone who wasn't that computer literate how to set the name? How many broken machines do you think we'll get from people trying but screwing up the edit? How many people are going to think Ubuntu is really hard to use because something simple requires them to edit a text file as root? I suggest this is a thing that normal people would *need* to set in a reasonable number of cases (just two network PCs in the house wouldn't be unusual even for a non-geeky setting). [Bug 633794] Re: update-apt-xapian-index: dies with an unknown opcode
Is it possible to reassign bugs to another package? I think this bug should be assigned to apt-xapian-index (since the bug is occurring when running a program from that package), or possibly python-apt (since it looks like a problem with a python file from python-apt). It might have a chance of being fixed there, since the backtrace looks to me like an invalid .pyc file for has been generated (no idea how) for /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apt/package.py, which I think is part of python-apt. The Xapian developers don't have particular expertise in broken .pyc files. As Olly says, xapian-bindings doesn't feature in the backtrace at all, and I can't see how it could be related to this bug. Therefore, as far as xapian-bindings is concerned, the bug is invalid. I would try reassigning to python-apt or apt-xapian-index, but I can't see any option for doing that in the UI here. -- update-apt-xapian-index: dies with an unknown opcode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/633794 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 292377] Re: Calibration support for Xenarc 700TSV
I again tried to configure this screen in 10.04.1 and still had the same problems. I think you are right about it getting confused. I ran gnome-display- properties and the various settings give varying and incorrect results. I have attached 4 screenshots to illustrate.
