In my case, I identified the source of my sound problems with Pulseaudio: I had installed the randomsound package, and it conflicts with Pulseaudio and causes the audio controller to stop being recognized. Why it was done before the 29th I don't know, but it does not change the fact that translations should have been ready by then. If you'd like to find out more, I'd recommend talking to the last uploader, Didier Roche (didrocks on the #ubuntu-devel IRC channel on Freenode). In any case, as pointed out on my last comment, there is an easy solution by uploading the upstream translation in Launchpad. 2. Hamster applet IS translated in GNOME 2.32. I don't understand why you pointed out a po file from the development branch. I thought Ubuntu used the stable version of GNOME. If the po file from the development branch is used, well, then it's obviously a bug. Sorry, that was my mistake, you are absolutely correct. I am not the translator of hamster-applet in my team, and I thought it was not an official GNOME module, that's why I pointed to the module's page instead of to the GNOME 2.32 module set. Ok, then back to the facts, it seems that the translation was committed on the 14th of Sept [1], and there was a package containing this translation released on the 19th of Sept [2]. Notice that hamster-applet is in the universe repository, which means it does not have as good support in Ubuntu as an application in main, which explains why there wasn't an upload for the 2.32.0 release. In any case, the translation is in the package, and as the package is from universe, there is no interaction with language packs here: upstream translations are installed 1:1 with the package. You can check that the two strings are translated in Czech by running the following command on the terminal and searching for them: msgunfmt /usr/share/locale/cs/LC_MESSAGES/hamster-applet.mo | less This points me to an upstream bug in hamster-applet, as I could reproduce it in a Catalan locale as well. I've filed bug 674852 for that, feel free to subscribe and mark the status as Confirmed. The other two screenshots are context menus from Nautilus, so probably the same case as the first one. More info, I hope it can help any dev. After rm -rf .pulse, the sound works, but the sound applet is completely out of game. Changing volume or muting stops working from there, and you need to use alsamixer from a terminal to control volume parameters. Moreover, powertop claims that there is a sound device used the 100% of the time, even when no sound is produced. Could any dev at least assign/change the status of this bug? Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools In the Time and Date configuration window (documented on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuTime), the servers suggested in the Time server window is inadequate. Many of the servers suggested are stratum 1 servers (for servers around Switzerland for instance I found out ntps1-0.cs.tu-berlin.de, ntps1-1.cs .tu-berlin.de, ntps1-2.uni-erlangen.de, canon.inria.fr, chronos.cru.fr, ntp.cesnet.cz, time.ien.it, ntp0.nl.net and ntp1.nl.net to be stratum 1). Stratum 1 servers are servers directly connected to a reference clock. Stratum 1 time servers should be used only by stratum 2 time servers (serving a large number of clients and / or stratum 3 servers). Stratum 1 servers should not be used by terminal clients (see http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Servers/RulesOfEngagement) and should not be advertised in the server selection window. Failing to do so will increase stratum 1 servers load and consequently reduce their availability, reducing the accuracy of the whole system. Stratum 1 servers should be detected, removed from this selection window, and replaced by stratum 2 (or even 3) servers which are good enough for most cases.
