[Bug 572123] Re: Openvpn 2.1_rc7 in Hardy: ifconfig-pool-persist broken
I CAN'T confirm this bug on Hardy. As per the manpage: --ifconfig-pool-persist file [seconds] Persist/unpersist ifconfig-pool data to file, at seconds intervals (default=600), as well as on program startup and shutdown. I ran an openvpn on Hardy with the following options: ifconfig-pool 172.16.22.224 172.16.22.255 ifconfig-pool-persist ipp.txt 10 At startup there was a file named ipp.txt created, it was empty. Then I connected a client which got an IP address from the pool and after 10 seconds the ipp.txt file was updated. Because by default it saves the file every 10 minutes, it's easy to think it doesn't get anything, but if you shut the openvpn server down, it automatically saves the IP addresses in the file. @Michael: if you could provide more details about your setup, we could try reproducing the problem. [Bug 686805] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.37-1ubuntu5.5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Hi Dan, thanks for taking the time to submit this bug report and help us make Ubuntu better. THis line from daemon.log suggests that maybe this was just a temporary problem while restarting the service after upgrade: Dec 7 15:24:13 ubuntu mysqld: 101207 15:24:13 [ERROR] Can't start server: Bind on TCP/IP port: Cannot assign requested address Dec 7 15:24:13 ubuntu mysqld: 101207 15:24:13 [ERROR] Do you already have another mysqld server running on port: 3306 ? Dec 7 15:24:13 ubuntu mysqld: 101207 15:24:13 [ERROR] Aborting This can happen if you have a lot of connections churning on your server when the restart is done, as it may take a couple of seconds before the LISTEN socket is unbound from the interface. If you can stop all clients from accessing the server before an update, that will probably prevent this from happening. You may want to just try sudo service mysql start If that works, finish the update by running sudo dpkg --configure -a Marking Invalid as this does not appear to be a bug. ** Changed in: mysql-dfsg-5.1 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-dfsg-5.1 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/686805 Title: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.37-1ubuntu5.5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 686832] [NEW] multipath-tools-boot, root mount failed - Device or resource busy
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: multipath-tools-boot After installing multipath-tools-boot, initramfs fails to mount /root by uuid with error: failed: Device or resource busy. And boot process falls into (initramfs) prompt. **Boot/Screen Output:** Begin: Running /scripts/local-premount ... done. mount: mounting /dev/disk/by-uuid/082f71b9-47dc-4d4b-bdfa-d5ca61f1e045 on /root failed: Device or resource busy Begin: Running /scripts/local-bottom ... done. done. other failure messages mounting (dev, sys, proc, etc.) (initramfs) **Further Debugging Info:** Procedures commands, run shortly after (initramfs) prompt appears. (initramfs) ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid/ lrwxrwxrwx1 10 082f71b9-47dc-4d4b-bdfa-d5ca61f1e045 - ../../dm1 [ This appears correct!?! ] (initramfs) mount /dev/disk/by-uuid/082f71b9-47dc-4d4b-bdfa-d5ca61f1e045 /root [ SUCCESS ! ] **WORKAROUND:** I have created an initramfs script to slow-down the root mounting attempt: File: /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/waitfor-multipath Content: #!/bin/sh VERBOSITY=0 PREREQ=multipath prereqs() { echo $PREREQ; } case $1 in prereqs) prereqs exit 0 ;; esac echo Waiting 5 seconds for multipaths udev?? to settle down... sleep 5 exit 0 END My guess for a general/global bug-fix is multipath-tools-boot script to include a slight delay/hold-down timer; to allow outside device-mapping procedures to complete. ..or a confirmation that dm devices have finished mapping. **Observations:** It appears multipath-tools-boot initramfs script executes successfully VERY quickly, and initramfs scripts continue with attempting to mount the root file system. Although, dm-# /dev/disk/by-uuid mappings are not instantly ready. This is why manually typing the same mount command at prompt is immediately successful. _To duplicate error in a non-boot scenario:_ This exact same behavior can be observed duplicated on running servers; when mounting a multipath (SAN) volume. As example; mounting multipath-SAN targets will create: /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, /dev/sdc, etc And multipath-tools+devmapper will then create the shared/linked /dev/dm-# mappings. You are then only supposed to use the /dev/dm-# virtual devices to access multipathed SAN devices (multipaths.) If you then attempt to mount a direct SAN volume /dev/sd?# an error is raised: mount: /dev/sd?# already mounted or /mount_point busy **Software Versions:** OS: Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick - server) Related Packages versions: multipath-tools 0.4.8-14ubuntu4 multipath-tools-boot 0.4.8-14ubuntu4 udev 162-2.1 initramfs-tools 0.98.1ubuntu6 initramfs-tools-bin 0.98.1ubuntu6 open-iscsi 2.0.871-0ubuntu5 open-iscsi-utils 2.0.871-0ubuntu5 libdevmapper1.02.1 2:1.02.39-1ubuntu6 **Hardware Details:** Servers affected: HP Proliant DL385 (G5, G5p, G6) (and others I'm sure.) Storage/SAN Type: iSCSI Storage/SAN Hardware: HP StorageWorks MSA2312i (and others I'm sure.) This problem affects servers with iSCSI-boot NICs, AND servers which have a USB-Key with /boot partition. [Bug 561802] Re: [i915] blank screen on Latitude E6410 (NOT E6510)
Just an update to post #182, I was able to restore functionality only by reinstalling from the 10.04.1 ISO distribution image that had the 2.6.32-24 kernel. I used meld to compare my two machines running 2.6.32-25, the one that was broken had been updated to 2.6.32-26 by update manager, then I tried to go back to 2.6.32-25. This left slight differences (0.1 rev) in Xorg and Plymouth that maybe were related to this bug. Anyway, there was no way I could find to get back to the state where the internal monitor would come on without plugging in an external monitor, even under previous kernels linked by grub and the recovery modes. The version of plymouth on the working machine was 0.8.2-2ubuntu2, the broken was 0.8.2-2ubuntu2.1 the version of Xorg on the working machines was xserver-common 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.3 and broken version was 7.4. Similarly grub had slight differences version 1.98-1ubuntu7 to 1.98-1ubuntu8. From what I can tell by reading various wikis, hard to image much else video related other than plymouth and xserver is running at the time the splash screen goes dark after grub menu. Plugging in a monitor during the plymouth splash or the login screen instantly would restore the internal display. Looking forward to hearing some more test reports of the ppa kernel post and bios fix of previous two posts. Re: [Compiz] [Bug 455378] Re: Can't resize windows to be displayed on several monitors
On Tue, Dec 7, 2010 at 11:39 AM, Jeff Ebert 455...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote: Hi Sam, Useful input. I have a patch for remmina that specifies the _NET_WM_FULLSCREEN_MONITORS hint with the number of coordinates of monitors to both of my monitors (when I had two). The binary choice of fullscreen in one monitor and fullscreen across all monitors is not too much to ask an application to provide. The configuration code for my patch is still needed. If anybody wants to take it on, I will help you get started. The general case of NxM monitors in a grid, which is supported by this hint, is pretty difficult to configure and it is not something that each application should need to provide. I suggest that it's a desktop environment function to help the user decide, say, that VNC viewer #1 should fullscreen across monitors 12 and VNC viewer #2 should fullscreen across monitors 34, and mplayer should fullscreen on monitor #5 only. It would be great to have a tool that could modify the hint for any application. Does anybody know if this is possible and/or being worked on? I envision a small utility that can set the hint on any running window with a nice gui to arrange fullscreen windows. There is no tool as of yet, but I don't see writing one as particularly difficult. Maybe you might want something like this in your application Atom netWmFullscreenMonitors = XInternAtom (display, _NET_WM_FULLSCREEN_MONITORS); Window root = RootWindow (ScreenOfDisplay (display)); XEvent msg; msg.message_type = netWmFullscreenMonitors; msg.format = 32; msg.data.l[0] = MonitorId1; msg.data.l[1] = MonitorId1; msg.data.l[2] = MonitorId1; msg.data.l[3] = MonitorId2; msg.data.l[4] = 1; XSendEvent (display, root, msg); That should send a ClientMessage to the root window with that hint, which compiz will receive and process. Next time an application tries to go fullscreen it will fullscreen to those dimensions. I might add that in the old days, there would have been a configuration knob *somewhere* in the WM to let the user choose the default behavior of _NET_WM_STATE_FULLSCREEN. :-| Jeff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/455378 Title: Can't resize windows to be displayed on several monitors ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : com...@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp -- Sam Spilsbury -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/455378 Title: Can't resize windows to be displayed on several monitors -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
