[Bug 1069618] Re: Skype App crashes when sending files

2012-11-13 Thread AN
Pardon for delay.

I have never used tracing, so after a bit of googling and reading a
couple of man pages, got "apport-retrace" tool installed from ubuntu
software center.

Launched skype, tried to send the file, skype crashed, crash report
generated in /var/crash, used "apport-retrace -o Skypetrace
_usr_bin_skype.1000.crash" command. But there comes an error

"apport-retrace -o Skypetrace _usr_bin_skype.1000.crash
ERROR: report file does not contain one of the required fields: CoreDump
DistroRelease Package ExecutablePath"

Am I doing what you have asked?

[Bug 1078202] [NEW] gcm callibrate fails with Error creating directory: File name too long

2012-11-13 Thread Franck
Public bug reported:

Trying to callibrate a webcam:

1) install shared-color-targets, else you fall into bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-color-manager/+bug/643168
2) follow the steps to callibrate a camera:
- choose device
- click callibrate
- choose callibration quality
- choose target (I pick the default, IT8.7/2, as it is the target I have)
- choose profile title: I keep the default, "webcam"
- see the callibration fail with message: Error creating directory: File name
too long

Running gnome-control-center from a terminal give a not much more informative
message:
(gcm-calibrate:20956): Gcm-WARNING **: failed to calibrate: Error creating
directory: File name too long

Re: [Bug 751605] Re: Multi-monitor - Windows maximize on the wrong monitor

2012-11-13 Thread wacked_up
Here is a way to reproduce it 100% of the time.
1. Have the bigger monitor on the left, and have a window there that is
bigger in at least one dimension than the second monitor on the right.

2. Drag the window to the second monitor, and either first drop it there,
and then maximize it (by pushing the window border against the panel (a
correct maximize outline is shown), and let go, or by still dragging the
window push it against the panel (still showing the right maximize outline.

3. Release the mouse button.

The window should now be maximized on the smaller right monitor, but in
fact it maximized on the larger left monitor instead.

This is because the anjali-team bamf branch is not used anymore and removed
(the current lp:bamf is under ~unity-team and the one used for now).

When looking at potential parent branch, we should be catching it and
just skipping that one.

Re: [Bug 1010568] Re: xcp-xapi problem with tun based VPN , tinc in my case

2012-11-13 Thread Thomas Goirand
Hi,

I'm sorry if it sounds a bit rude but: as the maintainer of xen-api in
Debian, I don't care about your particular installation or how you went
around the problem. I care about fixing the package, and I don't know
what even tinc is for (I only used OpenVPN in the past).

You are the reporter, so you must care about the bug to be fixed, right?
So could you *please* try to add:

Should-Start: xen-api

to the init.d script and let me know if it works?

If you don't do it and help fixing the bug which your reported, then
this is a really useless loss of time.

Cheers,

Thomas

[Bug 1078177] Re: typo in /etc/default/nagios3

2012-11-13 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This typo is present in Debian too, and Ubuntu currently doesn't make
any changes over the Debian package. So this bug would be best fixed
directly in Debian, and then Ubuntu will pick up the fix automatically.

Would you mind filing a bug with Debian please?

[Bug 1078213] [NEW] juju-machine-agent.log is not logrotated

2012-11-13 Thread Zygmunt Krynicki
Public bug reported:

I've been running a small juju cluster for a week now.

There were some connection issues in the data center I'm using and juju
had issues connecting to zookeeper. As a result /var/log/juju/juju-
machine-agent.log quickly grew to 200M

Overall on the four machines that make up my installation all of juju
logs, combined, were over 2GB in size. With the size of the instances
this is quickly becoming an issue. I don't imagine how I would manage a
large juju cluster without scripting around this issue. I think that
juju must support logrotate automatically out of the box.

[Bug 1078214] [NEW] /var/lib/juju/units/*/charm.log is not logrotated

2012-11-13 Thread Zygmunt Krynicki
Public bug reported:

I've deployed jenkins and jenkins-slave units in my juju cluster. On one
of the jenkins-slave instances the /var/lib/juju/units/jenkins-
slave-*/charm.log was over 700M in size (uncompressed) before I spotted
the issue. This instance is very lightly used and it was running for a
few days at most (having been added later in the week)

With the size of disk instances this is a major issue. I think this file
must be automatically logrotated out of the box. It should be also,
perhaps, moved to /var/log/juju for consistency.

[Bug 1078217] [NEW] zookeeper connection is not using exponential backoff

2012-11-13 Thread Zygmunt Krynicki
Public bug reported:

My juju cluster had some connection issues to zookeeper. While I was

I can see about 300 such exceptions _every second_. This is very bad on two
levels:

1) It quickly fills the log with pointless exceptions, using disk space,
saturating slow virtual IO
2) It is against proven network practice of using exponential backoff when
retrying failed communication

[Bug 1078102] Re: /etc/ldap/ldap.conf missing

2012-11-13 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

It is certainly confusing that PAM uses /etc/ldap.conf whereas openldap
uses /etc/ldap/ldap.conf. But it isn't clear to me that these two files
are actually of the same format, or that it is guaranteed that one is a
superset of the other.

The pam_ldap(5) manpage says:

pam_ldap stores its configuration in the ldap.conf file. (It should
be noted that some LDAP client libraries, such as OpenLDAP, also
use a configuration file of the same name. pam_ldap supports many
of the same configuration file options as OpenLDAP, but it adds
several that are specific to the functionality it provides. It is
not guaranteed that pam_ldap will continue to match the configura‐
tion file semantics of OpenLDAP. You may wish to use different
   files.)

I think that doing something such as your symlink would have unintended
consequences, so I'm not sure that a fix for the general case is
trivial. And any change would best be coordinated with Debian.

[Bug 751605] Re: Multi-monitor - Windows maximize on the wrong monitor

2012-11-13 Thread Dominik Sommer
Daniel: Case (c) works for me, meaning small windows maximize correctly
- it's *not* buggy here.

Regarding (b), it's not just the height that triggers the bug, it's also
the width: If any current window dimension doesn't fit onto the selected
monitor, it maximizes to the other (larger) one instead.

[Bug 1001965] Re: Cheese works intermittently on LTS 12.04

2012-11-13 Thread Tony Dalmeyer
This is one of the many bugs i have come accross.I can confirm it also
doesn'twork in Cinnamon Mint.
Wtf
I have persisted with Ubuntu for years and finally had 12.04 running sweetly
untill I was forced to update.
Switched to Mint and still have numerous bugs to fix.
A computor is supposed to save time, right?
I think its time to return to Windows or at least ios.

** Description changed:

Skype application crashes when sending files (no matter small or big).
The other side is MS Windows. Although receiving the files is quite
  normal.

Tested it on latest version 4.0.0.8 and tried earlier releases as well. They

[Bug 1078224] [NEW] apt-cacher-ng does not allow .o files to be downloaded

2012-11-13 Thread Roger Hunwicks
Public bug reported:

If you try to install a package that downloads a '.o' file, e.g. a
binary firmware for a wireless card, via apt-cacher-ng it fails because
the .o extension is not allowed:

sudo apt-get install firmware-b43legacy-installer b43-fwcutter
...
ERROR 403: Forbidden file type or location:
http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o.

The solution, as reported in #227240, is to edit /etc/apt-cacher-
ng/acng.conf and uncomment the PfilePattern setting and update part of
the regular expression for extentions (|\.jigdo|\.template, etc.) to
include "|\.o"

[Bug 1070769] Re: proposed package freezes 16.0.1+build1-0ubuntu2

2012-11-13 Thread Marius Kruger
I honestly believed the behaviour got much worse in the proposed package.
Since thunderbird kept on freezing right after initiating any online activity
(sync imap or rss) and going online, I was forced to try out evilution again.
It seemed to work great until I discovered after a week that it was not sending
out any email :(
I decided to give thunderbird-next a try and it works great so far i.e no
freezes and I'm able to send/receive mail and read rss:
17.0~b2+build1-0ubuntu0.12.10.1~mtn1

Re: [Bug 1063791] Re: ubuntu kernels < 3.7 do not include DISCARD/TRIM (FITRIM ioctl) for JFS filesystem

2012-11-13 Thread Torsten Eichstädt
Hello Brad & Joseph,

I had a conversation with Tino Reichardt who wrote the TRIM parts of the
patch. Dave Kleikamp did not answer, maybe I choose the wrong e-mail adress
or because he went from Big Blue to Oracle?

Tino will support me to get the patch upstream, but he is "a small light" (and
I'm a nobody) on LKML, and he does not have the time for the all the e-mails
that need to be written and answered; but I want to try to do that. Do you
have contact with the maintainers of the stable Linux versions (and give
support)?

Can you provide a test environment for the stable Linux kernels when I send
you git-patches against bare Linux 2.6.34, 2.6.35, 3.0, 3.2, 3.4, 3.5 and 3.6
(i.e. a system with a SSD, maybe ssh access)? I can only reliably test my
version 3.2.28, and to be honest I'm running JFS because it's rock-solid and
do not want to gamble on my system... I could test in a virtual box, but
that's probably not sufficient?

Up to now I do not use disk quotas, that's the part that needs testing besides
usual stability tests. Is there a test suite I shall use?

Thanx in advance, =|o)

P.S. The patch is running on my system for weeks now very smooth and
stable :)

Strange, that it was not replicated on your side though on 64 bit.

Replicated the scenario and BANG.

[Bug 271125] Re: [intrepid] update manager poor incomplete message on broken package filter

2012-11-13 Thread Robert Roth
I am marking this bug as Invalid as update-manager uses aptdaemon as a
backend (instead of synaptic, as it did when this bug got reported), so
you will get the dialog with instructions to use the Broken filter only
when using synaptic. Feel free to reopen if this still affects you, and
please provide more details.

Yes, sorry for the delay in testing. I can confirm that such a

For sake of full reference, we currently mount those filesystems from

[Bug 1041137] Re: Activating suspend from power button menu does not work

For the record, this can be triggered without the power button with

gdbus call -e -d org.gnome.SessionManager -o /org/gnome/SessionManager
-m org.gnome.SessionManager.Shutdown

That's easier to do in tests. I have not yet found yet how to synthesize
XF86PowerOff with xte (or otherwise).

[Bug 1032251] Re: EOG hangs in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-11-13 Thread angus73
Is there any other option for me to help in troubleshooting this bug? (See my
previous comment #6)
May I use an older kernel, which does not require the"pae" feature, with the
12.10 daily live image? If yes, which kernel should I choose?
I would be happy to have this bug solved (and to help in solving it), because
my old hardware works fine with Ubuntu with this only drawback, and I think
that one of the best advantages of Linux is to run fine on old hardware.

[Bug 993440] Re: No suspend option for critical battery state in power settings UI

2012-11-13 Thread Joakim Langvand
I see now that it fails to suspend after all. The patch i've committed
does add the option to suspend, and gnome-control-center correctly
updates the setting in dconf. The critical power level notification also
tells that the machine is going to "suspend very soon". But the machine
shuts down instead of suspending. It seems this is related to bug
#160200, and the underlaying issue is probably in acpi.

As for now, all other options than "shut down" seems useless.

   Status: In Progress => Confirmed
