[Bug 1138700] [NEW] Using eDP leaves kernel log with Timed out waiting for DP idle patterns messages

2013-03-01 Thread James M. Leddy
Public bug reported:

eDP on haswell graphics puts some stuff in dmsg that is scary to users.
Worse, these messages are displayed on suspend/resume, and because we
don't have vt-switchless resume support in ubuntu yet, when the graphics
don't work it seems like these messages are the culprit.

Dmesg:

[Bug 1134389] Re: Broadcom Sta/wl Drivers causes random kernel panics on ubuntu raring

2013-03-01 Thread Michele Giacomoli
@Manjul I checked for brcmsmac, but it seems they only support the
broadcom 4313 and... ops... I discovered I wrote the wrong model of my
broadcom card. In fact I have a 4312 (which seems not supported by
brcmsmac), not a 4313... Sorry

I'll update the description

** Description changed:

- While starting from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.10 wl drivers worked like a charm on
my broadcom 4313, it seems that the drivers in ubuntu 13.04 started causing
kernel panics while using the network. The version I'm using is a fresh install
of ubuntu 13.04 amd64 plus all the updates as of today and the home folder
restored from an ubuntu 12.10 backup, but I don't think it could make the
difference as the freeze happens also when logged as a just created user.

I'm pretty sure this problem is cause of broadcom drivers (or broadcom
related network stuff) because as soon as I blacklisted wl, mac80211 and
cfg80211 modules and plugged in an usb ralink wifi card it stopped to freeze.

[Bug 606238] Re: synaptic touchpad not recognized on dell latitude e6510 and others

2013-03-01 Thread Paul Swanson
Hi Dave, thanks also for all of your work.

How would, or is it ever likely, that this fix will make it into
Quantal?

There's got to be a huge number of Ubuntu users out there with Dell
laptops that could do with this functionality.

Is there anything we can do to petition the Ubuntu maintainers on this?

Thanks again.

[Bug 1132360] Re: rt2800pci ([1814:0601]/[1737:0067]): ifconfig wlan0 up returns SIOCSIFFLAGS: Input/output error

2013-03-01 Thread Kenny Strawn
Ran ifconfig wlan0 up in a VT (instead of in a GUI terminal emulator),
and came across the following debug information before the SIOCSIFFLAGS
case in the title:

[ 757.476021] phy0 - rt2800_wait_wpdma_ready: Error -- WPDMA TX/RX busy
[0x0062]
[ 757.076020] phy0 - rt2800_wait_wpdma_ready: Error -- WPDMA TX/RX busy
[0x0062]
[ 759.076090] phy0 - rt2800pci_set_device_dtate: Error -- Device failed to
enter state 4 (-5)

There's just one problem, as ifconfig -a points out: Both the TX and RX
bytes are listed at 0 and 0, so something's a little fishy here.

seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1040873] Re: [N56VZ, Realtek ALC663, Black Headphone Out, Right] No sound at all: Subwoofer not working

2013-03-01 Thread Raymond
does the enter playback volume has and effect on the suboofer ?

there are only three DAC with volume control , the headphone will have
to share the volume control in 5.1

the reason why you change the spdif out to speaker is just a hack to
trick the driver to config 5.1 with the headphone playback volume
control

do you mean model=auto

echo 0x16 0x99130111 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/user_pin_configs

and dynamic reconfig is not enough for the driver to create the bass
speaker playback volume using the new generic auto conf ?

Re: [Bug 1104156] Re: Continue to wait, or Press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery when waiting for LUKS passphrase

2013-03-01 Thread Steve Langasek
On Fri, Mar 01, 2013 at 01:15:04PM -, Cédric Dufour wrote:
Unfortunately, I'm wondering whether this can be achieved.

Plymouth seems to be totally agnostic of where client requests come from
(except to know where to send replies back) and to what purpose (and
thus can not know anything of the logic which may bind some requests to
others). Am I right in this regard?

This means that one could improve the handling of interactive requests
that depend on keyboard input (password prompt, question, waiting for
keystroke) and avoid to display the corresponding prompt message as long
a preceding interactive request is still unanswered (or not canceled).
This is possible (and already dealt with at some level) because keyboard
input can only match the latest pending request.

BUT I don't see how one could filter out messages to be displayed based on
 other interactive requests.

While plymouth should not display mountall boredom messages while
cryptsetup is waiting for password input, I'm sure there are existing use
cases where messages from one client must be displayed regardless of the
interactive request(s) of other(s). How can plymouth tell the
 difference?

In the case in question, the message we want to suppress uses the 'keys:'
prefix, which we know is associated with a watch-keystroke command. So in
the case of the Ubuntu plymouth themes that support 'keys:', we can hide
those messages when there's a higher-priority prompt being displayed.

It won't work with other themes, but then the behavior you get with
mountall's text display is buggy with those other themes already.

[Bug 1079273] Re: Huawei E398: 4G state connected, but no Internet

2013-03-01 Thread daniel ståhl
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1042456 ***

I have the exact same issue as in this report. Plugging the modem back
in and out a few times sometimes works. Otherwise it's reboot. And I
noticed that when it doesn't work, the modem stays on vendor 12d1 prodid
1505 instead of modeswitching over to 1506.

[Bug 1058518] Re: package transmission-daemon 2.51-0ubuntu1.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 255

The workaround I found was to edit the configuration file of
transmission-daemon

sudo vim /etc/default/transmission-daemon

 setting
ENABLE_DAEMON=1
instead of
ENABLE_DAEMON=0

upgrading the package and then changing the value of ENABLE_DAEMON
again.

Suspend works as expected when booting into 3.2.0-38-generic leftover
from my 12.04 install. Will try the upstream kernel shortly.

[Bug 1138284] Re: sync request: libarchive (3.1.2-5) from experimental

2013-03-01 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Andres, lrzip is in universe so Ubuntu can't build-depend on it unless
we get an Main Inclusion Request approved for lrzip first. Since I see
that you've done the last several libarchive uploads in Debian, do you
think it would be better to…

1. drop the new build-depends
2. use some kind of substitution magic like
http://raphaelhertzog.com/2010/09/27/different-dependencies-between-debian-and-ubuntu-but-common-source-package/
It's not clear from the comments if that will work for build-depends or not.
3. or try to get lrzip into main: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionProcess

[Bug 677783] Re: Redshift does not quit upon logout from session

2013-03-01 Thread ricardofunke
Hi David,

I applied the patch Call prctl.set_pdeathsig() after forking but it
still doesn't kill the process at logout.

After applied, I removed statusicon.pyc and statusicon.pyo and then ran
python2 -m compileall statusicon.py to regenerate.

But the problem persists, I log out from my account and log in into my
wive's account, there I still can see my redshift process running with
ps command, the only process remaining from my user.

[Bug 1133065] Re: Default mixer settings for EMU20K2 enable PCM Input on boot while showing it as disabled

2013-03-01 Thread DiegoRivera
The simplest definition of the bug is that after bootup, the actual
state of the emu20k2 hardware is not accurately reflected in the
software (alsamixer, alsactl store). The easiest observable effect (in
my case) is the PCM Capture switch - it shows off even though it's
functioning as if it were on. Other differences between hardware and
software may be exist, but I've not detected them (nor have I searched).

Toggling the switch on, then off, fixes the issue and syncs between
hardware and software. However, using alsactl restore has no effect
even if the configuration being restored contains the instructions to
set the switch to off, and even if the force parameter is used (which
is the default anyway). I wonder if alsactl compares the hardware state
to the new state intended and avoids setting the switch value as an
optimization...

I'm testing your latest now, will report its effects.

Ok...your latest suggestion (pulseaudio analog-input.conf.common
modifications) had no effect. The defect is still present.

Let me know if you'd like me to test something else.

[Bug 1117414] Re: The link working with files is broken ?

2013-03-01 Thread Oskar Wallgren
You're not giving a lot of information to go on.

I think this is the link your trying to reach.
http://help.gnome.org/users/user-guide/stable/nautilus.html
This part of the documentation is for the Gnome desktop and since this is an
older version of Gnome that has been discontinued they have also taken down the
documentation.

Here is a copy of the Gnome help files from Ubuntu 10.04. I don't know if it's
the very same text but it's probably a version of it.
http://teliute.laxjyj.com/TeacHtm/user-guide/nautilus.html

What version/release of Ubuntu are you using?
Is this on a Gnome desktop? What release?

[Bug 1133835] Re: Ubuntu 12.10 immediately wakes up after suspend

2013-03-01 Thread David Tombs
Suspend also works as expected with mainline linux-
image-3.8.1-030801-generic.

I also tested my normal kernel 3.5.0-25-generic without my normal
virtualbox drivers but it still doesn't suspend properly.
