[Bug 1194791] Re: gufw does not start from System Settings -> Firewall Configuration

2013-09-26 Thread jean-christophe manciot
After having installed your 13.10 gufw package and resolved a dependency
issue (python-netifaces is now installed), I have this error after
having launched "sudo gnome-control-center/gufw":

[Bug 1169143] Re: Headset support on some Dell machines

2013-09-26 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello David, or anyone else affected,

Accepted pulseaudio into precise-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/1:1.1-0ubuntu15.4 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

Disabling the ACPI backlight driver with "acpi_backlight=vendor" could
make it work, but it also cause the touchpad and keyboard stop working.

Also verified with the latest mainline kernel 3.12rc2, the brightness

brightness keys, but the brightness still not changing.

[Bug 1229275] Re: juju destroy-environment also destroys nodes that are not controlled by juju

2013-09-26 Thread William Reade
Looks like we never added anything to tag the machines with their
environment.

Implementation note: *please* tag with environment UUID, not environment
name (names are not globally unique, and environments will be
referencing one another one day: treating the name as anything other
than an alias is counterproductive).

Timo, is it the best solution to just remove the package? It definitely
should not be installed by default unless accel is disabled, but it does
allow resolutions that VESA doesn't, like 1280x800.

[Bug 1194791] Re: gufw does not start from System Settings -> Firewall Configuration

2013-09-26 Thread costales
Wow :O It appears to be something about the python paths, I think python
is not finding their modules.

Could you confirm me these paths?
/usr/lib/python_anything/dist-packages/dbus???
By example, I have dbus in "python2.7":
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/dbus
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/netifaces.so

I discovered a interesting tool, could you run these commands?
python -v
import dbus
from netifaces import interfaces

We'll see a dump will the paths and maybe see the problem :)

[Bug 1229275] Re: juju destroy-environment also destroys nodes that are not controlled by juju

2013-09-26 Thread Raphaël Badin
One solution to fix this problem would be this:
- when the env is bootstrapped: create a tag named after the environment UUID
- each time juju takes control of a node: associate that tag with the node
- when juju fetches the list of instances it controls, only return the nodes
associated with that tag

My server code is now throwing null pointer exceptions due to an issue
in the same area (ICC colour profiles). I've been running test
successfully with the same photos all morning and now they won't load at
all. There has been no code change to the server. I'm guessing there's
an underlying library problem.

[Bug 1215513] Re: System locks up, requires hard reset

2013-09-26 Thread kitten_geek
here is solution:

run mkswap with "-c"
mkswap -c /dev/zram0

(you can fix this in package zram-config, if you want :)
cat /etc/init/zram-config.conf | grep mkswap
mkswap /dev/zram${DEVNUMBER}

you need to change this line to:
mkswap -c /dev/zram${DEVNUMBER}

Explanation:

See:

modprobe zram zram_num_devices=1

( dmesg | grep zram ) :

[ 979.545213] zram: module is from the staging directory, the quality is
unknown, you have been warned.
[ 979.550810] zram: Creating 1 devices ...

Next:

echo $((345*1024*1024)) > /sys/block/zram0/disksize

(dmesg still silent)

Next:

mkswap /dev/zram0
Setting up swapspace version 1, size = 353276 KiB

[ 1127.082265] Buffer I/O error on device zram0, logical block 88319

See! "logical block 88319"! 88319 * 4096 = 361754624; error on bite
number 361754624 (one block = 4096 bites)

I was create 361758720 bites (echo $((345*1024*1024)) returns 361758720;

3617858720 (memory, for zram) - 361754624 (number of bite with error ) =
4096!

Zram create device, with damaged last sector!

How to solve it?

mkswap --help:

-c, --check check bad blocks before creating the swap area

mkswap -c /dev/zram0
one bad page
Setting up swapspace version 1, size = 353272 KiB
no label, UUID=bb7a0771-5f00-47b0-9238-723b8cd61b20

Yes, one bad page!

(you can see difference in size; - without "-c" option "size = 353276 KiB",
with it - succesfully find "one bad page", and size is 4 KB less:
size = 353272 KiB

swapon /dev/zram0 -p 10

and, dmesg:

1546.782347] Buffer I/O error on device zram0, logical block 88319
[ 1546.782369] Buffer I/O error on device zram0, logical block 88319
[ 1546.782500] Buffer I/O error on device zram0, logical block 88319

You can see, time(in beginning of "dmesg"): time not when you run
"swapon", time = time when "mkswap" check partition"; so, your "swap" is
safe and stable!

Enjoy!

[Bug 1215513] Re: System locks up, requires hard reset

Lets try to calculate:

(what a pity, I can not see bites, only kilobites! but...)

(block ) 256349 * 4 (four kilobites per page) = 1025396k (place of "bad"
sector); as you can see, it is the last sector : ""[1.659040] Adding
1025396k swap on /dev/zram0"

Time of this error can be random When OS try to use this "last zram
sector", it freezes or somethind else...

[Bug 1215513] Re: System locks up, requires hard reset

2013-09-26 Thread kitten_geek
here is solution:

run mkswap with "-c"
mkswap -c /dev/zram0

(you can fix this in package zram-config, if you want :)
cat /etc/init/zram-config.conf | grep mkswap
mkswap /dev/zram${DEVNUMBER}

you need to change this line to:
mkswap -c /dev/zram${DEVNUMBER}

Explanation:

See:

modprobe zram zram_num_devices=1

( dmesg | grep zram ) :

[ 979.545213] zram: module is from the staging directory, the quality is
unknown, you have been warned.
[ 979.550810] zram: Creating 1 devices ...

Next:

echo $((345*1024*1024)) > /sys/block/zram0/disksize

(dmesg still silent)

Next:

mkswap /dev/zram0
Setting up swapspace version 1, size = 353276 KiB
no label, UUID=a95522e0-fb27-4dce-8006-3e3cbf9a6f75

(dmesg:)

[ 1115.120823] Buffer I/O error on device zram0, logical block 88319
[ 1115.120838] Buffer I/O error on device zram0, logical block 88319
[ 1115.12] Buffer I/O error on device zram0, logical block 88319
[ 1115.121145] Buffer I/O error on device zram0, logical block 88319
[ 1115.121166] Buffer I/O error on device zram0, logical block 88319

See! "logical block 88319"! 88319 * 4096 = 361754624; error on bite
number 361754624 (one block = 4096 bites)

I was create 361758720 bites (echo $((345*1024*1024)) returns 361758720;

3617858720 (memory, for zram) - 361754624 (number of bite with error ) =
4096!

Zram create device, with damaged last sector!

How to solve it?

mkswap --help:

-c, --check check bad blocks before creating the swap area

mkswap -c /dev/zram0
one bad page
Setting up swapspace version 1, size = 353272 KiB
no label, UUID=bb7a0771-5f00-47b0-9238-723b8cd61b20

Yes, one bad page!

(you can see difference in size; - without "-c" option "size = 353276 KiB",
with it - succesfully find "one bad page", and size is 4 KB less:
size = 353272 KiB

swapon /dev/zram0 -p 10

Enjoy!

And some explanation (I use another bugreports)
Just comment here, #25 :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1215513/comments/25

...
[ 1.659040] Adding 1025396k swap on /dev/zram0. Priority:100 extents:1

[Bug 1215175] Re: git-buildpackage ftbfs in saucy due to bugs in python-coverage's packaging

2013-09-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package python-coverage - 3.6-0ubuntu6

---
python-coverage (3.6-0ubuntu6) saucy; urgency=low

  * 02.use-system-js-libraries.patch: Update to deal with the
removal of jquery.isonscreen.js and jquery.hotkeys.js
  * Add libjs-jquery-hotkeys and libjs-jquery-isonscreen to Suggests
(not Depends as they are not in main).
  * debian/rules: Make the override_dh_auto_build target depend on
the remove-bundled-libraries target so the bundled JavaScript
libraries are removed no matter which arch the package is being
built on (LP: #1215175).

[Bug 896922] Re: Lenovo L520 - "psmouse.c: touchpad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync" and stops working for seconds

2013-09-26 Thread Gero Graubner
I just discovered (using Thinkpad L520 with 12.04 LTS, Kernel
3.2.0-53-generic), that there must be something wrong with the CPU
frequency scaling.

Found this in the Arch-Linux Wiki:

'If you use CPU frequency scaling, avoid using the "ondemand" governor
and use the "performance" governor when possible, as the touchpad may
lose sync when the CPU frequency changes."

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics#Touchpad_synchronization_issues

If I set the governor to "performance" instead of "ondemand" the sync-
faults totaly gone.

If you run Unity you can try the indicator-cpufreq (sudo apt-get install
indicator-cpufreq)

Choose "performance" and test it. No stucks and sync-faults.
After going back to "ondemand" the stucks are back.

The gonvernor was always set to "performance" after boot/login, but was
switched to "ondemand" after a minute or so (to speed up login speed as
much as possible)

As a workaround until (hopefully) a fix is comming:
So, if you want to set the govenor fix to "performance" you have to edit the
file: etc/init.d/ondemand (line 27) and change

echo -n ondemand > $CPUFREQ

to

echo -n performance > $CPUFREQ'

or simply paste:
sudo sed -i s/'echo -n ondemand > $CPUFREQ'/'echo -n performance > $CPUFREQ'/g
/etc/init.d/ondemand

and reboot.

To switch it back to default "ondemand" paste:
sudo sed -i s/'echo -n performance > $CPUFREQ'/'echo -n ondemand > $CPUFREQ'/g
/etc/init.d/ondemand

Gero

[Bug 1194791] Re: gufw does not start from System Settings -> Firewall Configuration

For me, python is using this path: /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/

Could you try this?
python

This will give your current paths.

I think you will have python2.X too, because some programs are using that.
I think an install corrupted your python paths:

[Bug 1231359] [NEW] Sync gnome-common 3.10.0-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2013-09-26 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
Public bug reported:

Please sync gnome-common 3.10.0-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Changelog entries since current saucy version 3.7.4-1:

gnome-common (3.10.0-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
- Use autoreconf instead of running the individual tools manually. This
also means gnome-autogen.sh no longer fails with newer automake
  versions. Closes: #722231
  * Drop debian/patches/02_autogen_required_versions.patch, it no longer
applies and the minimum required versions are available since a very long
time now.
  * Wrap dependencies.

[Bug 1231230] [NEW] Rescue on server image fails to detect partitions

2013-09-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Image: 20130925.1 amd64 server

1. install with guided partitioning, no lvm, raid, or encryption
2. reboot from the cdimage
3. select rescue

It tells me that there were no root partitions found to mount, but
clearly there is one. I exited out to a shell, and was able to mount it
by hand just fine.

I did notice in the syslog (after mounting):
rescue-mode: no partitions found!
EXT3-fs (sda1): error: couldn't mount because of unsupported optional features
(240)
EXT4-fs (sda1): recovery complete
EXT4-fs (sda1): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts: (null)

** Affects: rescue (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
