[Bug 1371526] Re: ceph-disk-prepare command always fails; new partition table not avaliable until reboot
I poked at this with some additional volumes attached to the cloud instance: Offending device: ubuntu@juju-t-machine-22:~$ sudo umount /dev/vdb ubuntu@juju-t-machine-22:~$ sudo lsof | grep vdb jbd2/vdb- 1268 root cwd DIR 253,1 4096 2 / jbd2/vdb- 1268 root rtd DIR 253,1 4096 2 / jbd2/vdb- 1268 root txt unknown /proc/1268/exe Additional device: ubuntu@juju-t-machine-22:~$ sudo mount /dev/vdc /mnt2 ubuntu@juju-t-machine-22:~$ sudo lsof | grep vdc jbd2/vdc- 16058 root cwd DIR 253,1 4096 2 / jbd2/vdc- 16058 root rtd DIR 253,1 4096 2 / jbd2/vdc- 16058 root txt unknown /proc/16058/exe ubuntu@juju-t-machine-22:~$ sudo umount /dev/vdc ubuntu@juju-t-machine-22:~$ sudo lsof | grep vdc As you can see, the jbd2 process for vdb appears to hang around, which I think is what is keeping the partition table locked in kernel and hence stale. ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ceph in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1371526 Title: ceph-disk-prepare command always fails; new partition table not avaliable until reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ceph/+bug/1371526/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

So to gather more pointers I tried a Trusty host and Utopic KVM guests. [Bug 1310800] Re: 056a:0302 Trusty Tahr, kernel 3.13: automatic load of wacom.ko driver cause a hard kernel panic
I have attached dump files. I note: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0018 - may be a clue? I have also posted upstream as suggested but that thread seems to have found a work-around so may be less interested. This seems to be an issue with how Ubuntu packages this module and should be fixed out-of-the-box rather than requiring (geeky) workarounds. [Bug 1360823] Re: Failed to load COM32 file gfxboot.c32 when creating 14.04 LTS live USB from 14.10
I unfortunately have Ubuntu 14.10, for a few weeks (and I do not even why, for I simply accepted a proposed update, in which it was presented as a LTS version ). It is is a nightmare for me. A lot of tools that I used to use crash very often or simply do not work. So I do have to go back to a stable version, but because of this bug, I can't. [Bug 1140716]
Hi Chris, meanwhile my current kernel is 3.16.1-46.1.g90bc0f1 I'm wondering (after a reinstall) that the semaphore bug hasn't occured yet, which was the case before (after a fresh install). This leads me to 4 definable possible reasons: 1. the named kernel revision somehow contains a fix for it. looking at the changes I could'nt get an affirmation to that assumption. 2. cgroup_memory=disabled has a relation to it. (That's why I removed it for now). 3. the BIOS settings (which could be different now) might have something to do with it. 4. I haven't installed KVM suppport yet. I'll post again if I find a reproducible explanation. (In reply to comment #189) Hi Chris, OK, nothing of the above was the reason. As soon as I added it, the problems quickly started. Selfmade problem. Not really, https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70764 tracks that this hang is more likely with TearFree (fundamentally the hang is still the same hardware issue, but it is interesting that TearFree has a higher chance of hitting it). No, this is **NOT** an nVidia (or any driver) problem (emphasis because the common misconception seems to be that it is an nVidia/ATI/AMD proprietary driver issue, even I shared this misconception before looking at the code). It is a problem with the implementation of the Bresenham (bres for short) line drawing algorithm. I am not sure how the other drivers get around this problem. My assumption (and if I recall correct I may have even tested this) is that they do not call the code in question at all. I'm guessing that they implement the line draw on the graphics chip or something and therefore override this problematic code. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1043575 Title: Xubuntu 12.10 + Xorg server 1.13 = Window decoration missing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfwm4/+bug/1043575/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
