[Bug 1371097] Re: cupsd is not allowed to access /var/cache/samba/gencache.tdb by apparmor

2014-09-19 Thread Martin Pitt
I have no idea what that file is, but reading it seems quite save. So
just add

  /var/cache/samba/*.tdb r,

where the other samba related permissions are.

[Bug 1371526] [NEW] ceph-disk-prepare command always fails; new partition table not avaliable until reboot

2014-09-19 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

$ sudo ceph-disk-prepare --fs-type xfs --zap-disk /dev/vdb
Caution: invalid backup GPT header, but valid main header; regenerating

Warning! Main and backup partition tables differ! Use the 'c' and 'e' options

[Bug 1371526] Re: ceph-disk-prepare command always fails; new partition table not avaliable until reboot

2014-09-19 Thread James Page
Its probably worth noting that this is in a cloud-instance which
automatically formats and mounts /dev/vdb on first boot; however we do
umount it prior to performing the ceph-disk-prepare command.

[Bug 1371526] Re: ceph-disk-prepare command always fails; new partition table not avaliable until reboot

2014-09-19 Thread James Page
I poked at this with some additional volumes attached to the cloud
instance:

Offending device:

ubuntu@juju-t-machine-22:~$ sudo umount /dev/vdb
ubuntu@juju-t-machine-22:~$ sudo lsof | grep vdb
jbd2/vdb- 1268 root cwd DIR 253,1 4096
 2 /
jbd2/vdb- 1268 root rtd DIR 253,1 4096
 2 /
jbd2/vdb- 1268 root txt unknown
   /proc/1268/exe

Additional device:

ubuntu@juju-t-machine-22:~$ sudo mount /dev/vdc /mnt2
ubuntu@juju-t-machine-22:~$ sudo lsof | grep vdc
jbd2/vdc- 16058 root cwd DIR 253,1 4096
 2 /
jbd2/vdc- 16058 root rtd DIR 253,1 4096
 2 /
jbd2/vdc- 16058 root txt unknown
   /proc/16058/exe
ubuntu@juju-t-machine-22:~$ sudo umount /dev/vdc
ubuntu@juju-t-machine-22:~$ sudo lsof | grep vdc

As you can see, the jbd2 process for vdb appears to hang around, which I
think is what is keeping the partition table locked in kernel and hence
stale.

Still an issue in Ubuntu trusty, installed a few weeks ago. Get the
NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED.
I will try to install debian packages.

This is very annoying by the way.

[Bug 1371526] Re: ceph-disk-prepare command always fails; new partition table not avaliable until reboot

2014-09-19 Thread Stefan Bader
So to gather more pointers I tried a Trusty host and Utopic KVM guests.
Either manually created (with virt-manager and not involving cloud-init
then) and also using uvtool which is at least using a vdb for cloud-init
data (in some way, though the image is a ro iso). Both ways the jbd2
process goes away after unmount.

As mentioned in comment 12, there are some configuration options

If you put these back in, (i.e. comment [home], ... back in), it will work with

At least, I can confirm this to be working with samba

[Bug 1371159] Re: MacBookPro 11, 1 (Haswell, retina) fails to both suspend and hibernate with ubuntu 14.04

2014-09-19 Thread Albert
I have fixed the problem with swap space by editing the file
/etc/crypttab to use the device directly (e.g. /dev/sda4) rather than
the UUID (which did not exist under /dev/disk/by-uuid.

While swap space is now operational, suspend and hibernate still fail as
reported. Would appreciate advice in addressing this issue.

Thank you.

2014-09-19 Thread Yung Shen
** Description changed:

+ Ubuntu release: 12.04.5

  Description:

The Lenovo new TrackPad since 2014 starting to unify buttons into
ClickPad, but in most case for now, upper middle scroll(selection) and
upper left click, in generally it is not effecting normal use, however
it is a trouble for user who use Trackpoint(Pointing Stick), which makes

  1. Open any webpage
  2. Trying to scroll page with TrackPoint

  1. Open any textfile with any editors
  2. Trying to select and copy some text while using TrackPoint

Users need to move their hands off the keyboard and use the bottom of

[Bug 1368436] Re: camera-app crashes after quickly opening and closing app

2014-09-19 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Yeah, even when hybris is actually working with a proper assert, that
still causes a crash with an abort. The real fix here is in qtubuntu-
camera, to make sure control is actually valid when using it.

This is a race when shutting down the app, and seems to be easier to
crash now that for some unknown reason the startup is a bit slower.

[Bug 1370018] Re: igb driver does not initialize network cards - no link intel I210 rev03

2014-09-19 Thread wege
Thank you for the links, but it seems to me that kernel is quite the
same as that one I tested before. The boot issue seems to be fixed but
the driver has a lot more issues as described in post #21 (please
download the full text because the posted version looks a little bit
confusing).

Three main issues are remaining:
- massive plug/unplug problems
- lost packets
- wrong packet counter on the interface

I am wondering if the problems are caused by the revision of that network card
or is it known that the driver/nic is having that sort of problems?
This is a build in dual-nic in a FUJITSU PRIMERGY TX2540 M1 server, with an
approval for SLES and RHEL ...

[Bug 1371058] Re: Regression: Latest apt security update returns Hash Sum mismatch for file: URI:s

2014-09-19 Thread Björn Torkelsson
Hi,

Tried the lucid and precise packages from the ppa:

1. Copied the packages from the ppa to our local mirror
2. Cleaned /var/lib/apt/lists and /var/lib/apt/lists/partial
3. ran apt-get update
4. ran apt-get dist-upgrade
5. ran apt-get update

Work on both lucid and precise. On precise I have also tried skipping
step 2. and that works too.

Thanks for a quick response and fix! With 1000+ servers that is really
appreciated :-)

[Bug 1370930] Re: apparmor cups samba problem no printing

2014-09-19 Thread Martin Pitt
The bits about gendache.tdb are covered by bug 1371097. I don't know
what the denied_mask=send signal=term bits are about, I suggest asking
the apparmor developers (jdstrand and tyhicks).

I have no idea what that file is, but reading it seems quite save. So
just add

  /var/cache/samba/*.tdb r,

where the other samba related permissions are.

[Bug 1310800] Re: 056a:0302 Trusty Tahr, kernel 3.13: automatic load of wacom.ko driver cause a hard kernel panic

2014-09-19 Thread riban
I have attached dump files. I note: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL
pointer dereference at 0018 - may be a clue? I have also posted
upstream as suggested but that thread seems to have found a work-around
so may be less interested. This seems to be an issue with how Ubuntu
packages this module and should be fixed out-of-the-box rather than
requiring (geeky) workarounds. (I can do that but we Ubuntu is supposed
to be for Human Beings - not just geeks!)

[Bug 1360823] Re: Failed to load COM32 file gfxboot.c32 when creating 14.04 LTS live USB from 14.10

2014-09-19 Thread Maurice Clerc
I unfortunately have Ubuntu 14.10, for a few weeks (and I do not even why, for
I simply accepted a proposed update, in which it was presented as a LTS version
).
It is is a nightmare for me.
A lot of tools that I used to use crash very often or simply do not work.

So I do have to go back to a stable version, but because of this bug, I can't.
Up to now I liked Ubuntu, but I now seriously think to try something more
reliable.
I need to work, not to spend days on bugs.

  Description:

The Lenovo new TrackPad since 2014 starting to unify buttons into
ClickPad, but in most case for now, upper middle scroll(selection) and
upper left click, in generally it is not effecting normal use, however
it is a trouble for user who use Trackpoint(Pointing Stick), which makes
it useless since there is no wait to scroll with TrackPoint.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open any webpage
  2. Trying to scroll page with TrackPoint

  1. Open any textfile with any editors
  2. Trying to select and copy some text while using TrackPoint

  Actual result:

Users need to move their hands off the keyboard and use the bottom of
touchpad to perform actions all over again.

  Expected results:

5 buttons on new TrackPad should works as expected.

[Bug 1140716]

2014-09-19 Thread Frank Stephan
Hi Chris,

meanwhile my current kernel is 3.16.1-46.1.g90bc0f1
I'm wondering (after a reinstall) that the semaphore bug hasn't occured yet,
which was the case before (after a fresh install).

This leads me to 4 definable possible reasons:

1. the named kernel revision somehow contains a fix for it. looking at the
changes I could'nt get an affirmation to that assumption.
2. cgroup_memory=disabled has a relation to it. (That's why I removed it for
now).
3. the BIOS settings (which could be different now) might have something to do
with it.
4. I haven't installed KVM suppport yet.

I'll post again if I find a reproducible explanation.
Frank

[Bug 1140716]

The only thing under my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ is 00-keyboard.conf
(system generated).

Do you want a copy of /sys/class/drm/card0/error every time?

[Bug 1043575]

2014-09-19 Thread Daniel-boca
The problem is still there in RHEL 6.6 beta, xorg-x11-server-
Xorg-1.15.0-16.el6.x86_64.

In the end, is this more a Nvidia driver problem ? I can confirm that I
see this issue only using Nvidia driver, not Nouveau nor Intel.

I've managed to fix it using the patch provided.

So long as it is the same event, there is no more information we need
other than testing feedback for an eventual workaround.

[Bug 1140716]

2014-09-19 Thread Chris Wilson
(In reply to comment #189)
 Hi Chris,

OK, nothing of the above was the reason. In my case it's simply this:

 /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

 Section Device
Identifier Intel Graphics
Driver intel
Option TearFreetrue
 EndSection

I added it when the tearing scrolling through large webpages annoyed me.
As soon as I added it, the problems quickly started.

 Selfmade problem.

Not really, https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70764 tracks
that this hang is more likely with TearFree (fundamentally the hang is
still the same hardware issue, but it is interesting that TearFree has a
higher chance of hitting it).

If you want to experiment:

 http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~ickle/linux-2.6/log/?h=requests

should have an interesting fix, at least for trying to prevent the
TearFree leading to the semaphore hang.

[Bug 1043575]

2014-09-19 Thread Crazycasta
No, this is **NOT** an nVidia (or any driver) problem (emphasis because
the common misconception seems to be that it is an nVidia/ATI/AMD
proprietary driver issue, even I shared this misconception before
looking at the code). It is a problem with the implementation of the
Bresenham (bres for short) line drawing algorithm. I am not sure how the
other drivers get around this problem. My assumption (and if I recall
correct I may have even tested this) is that they do not call the code
in question at all. I'm guessing that they implement the line draw on
the graphics chip or something and therefore override this problematic
code.

[Bug 1338430] Re: Slow loading/showing of images in the dash

2014-09-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
About 3 seconds is the time it takes to show all the icons after I
scroll down and then back up to the top again in the apps scope.

It doesn't look like a blocked UI thread at all. Rather we're
unloading/reloading some images during scrolling. Surely if you want
smooth scrolling you need to keep everything in memory?..
