[Bug 1467989] [NEW] Boot issues running multipath with a large number of paths
Public bug reported: Applicable to: Ubuntu Server 15.04, 14.10, and 14.04(.x) LTS On systems running multipath with a very large number of paths, Ubuntu Server might experience long delays and issues during boot (for example, failure to mount the root filesystem or other filesystems). The problem symptoms include: - Boot messages about udev worker timeout events and killed processes. - Hitting the initramfs shell (usually applicable to the root filesystem). - Hitting the emergency mode shell (usually applicable to other filesystems). The problem cause is: - Path discovery time for a large number of individual paths exceeds the time limits defined by udev and/or systemd targets (if applicable). The solution is expected to be available in Ubuntu Server 15.10 and later. For Ubuntu Server 15.04 and earlier, there is currently no automatic solution available on package updates. In order to resolve the problem manually, it is required to include the following parameters in the boot/kernel command line: udev.children-max=expected number of paths + overhead udev.event-timeout=path discovery time in seconds The parameter values vary according to the system, path discovery rate, and other factors. It is suggested to repeatedly increase the parameter values to determine the minimum values required to eliminate the problem symptoms. For example, on a system with 816 paths: udev.children-max=900 udev.event-timeout=300 The procedure can be accomplished in 2 phases: 1) Discover the appropriate values to boot the system: On the bootloader screen (GNU GRUB version version). a) Select the appropriate Ubuntu entry with the arrow keys. b) Press 'e' (edit). c) Scroll down until the following line with the arrow keys: linux/boot/vmlinux-... root=UUID=... ro ... d) Scroll to the end of the line with the arrow keys, and append the parameters with the respective values (without quotes): udev.children-max=value1 udev.event-timeout=value2 e) Press Ctrl-x or F10 to boot the entry. f) Repeat this process until the system boots correctly, increasing the parameter values. 2) Permanently store the parameters/values in the bootloader configuration Once the system boots correctly: a) Log in. b) Edit the /etc/default/grub file; for example: $ sudo nano /etc/default/grub or $ sudo vi /etc/default/grub c) Insert the parameters in the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX line; for example GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=udev.children-max=value1 udev.event-timeout=value2 d) Save the file, and exit. e) Update the bootloader configuration: $ sudo update-grub f) You can (optionally) reboot in order to test the new settings: $ sudo reboot ** Affects: multipath-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Changed in: multipath-tools (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1467989 Title: Boot issues running multipath with a large number of paths To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/multipath-tools/+bug/1467989/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1384503] Re: rsync fails on large files with compression
I've attempted to reproduce this issue but I've not been able to at this point with stock 14.04 rsync versions between two 14.04 (up-to-date) systems. It may be highly dependent on the actual data; if you can reproduce this with something publicly available (like a large iso catted together multiple times or something else that I can create bit- for-bit); that'd help me narrowing down the fix. Could someone who can reproduce this issue please run apport-collect 1384503 so I can get more information from the systems where you can reproduce? W.r.t 3.1.1, we cannot backport the newer package into Trusty, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates for the policy and rationale. However, I will take a look at the changes in 3.1.1 to enable the new- style compression as well as the logic to detect when there is a mismatch; If that patchset is small and sane, we may be able to SRU just that change to fix this issue in Trusty. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1384503 Title: rsync fails on large files with compression To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rsync/+bug/1384503/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1468005] [NEW] Display the names of multiple addressbooks.
Public bug reported: Currently the Contacts application has a small bar under the header which allows to select between All and Favorites. It would be pretty cool if this header would also include different addressbooks, so that you can switch between them with ease. I'm aware that currently the only possibility to get multiple addressbooks is by using syncevolution on the command line, still it would be very useful for people like me who have multiple addressbooks which are synced to the device to be able to switch between those. Ideally the before mentioned header would expand and include the names of all addressbooks. Example, by default it should display All - Favorites, if another addressbook is added it should be expanded to All - Favorites - Phone - MyBook and so forth All - Favorites - Phone - MyBook - Business - Other. [Bug 1450066] Re: IPv6 hop limit set to 0
This bug is due to a failure in handling router advertisments. According to RFC 4861 (page 20) a _Cur Hop Limit_ set to 0 means, that the Hop Limit is unspecified.
2) Permanently store the parameters/values in the bootloader configuration Once the system boots correctly: a) Log in. b) Edit the /etc/default/grub file; for example: $ sudo nano /etc/default/grub or $ sudo vi /etc/default/grub c) Insert the parameters in the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX line; for example GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=udev.children-max=value1 udev.event-timeout=value2 d) Save the file, and exit. e) Update the bootloader configuration: $ sudo update-grub f) You can (optionally) reboot in order to test the new settings: $ sudo reboot ** Affects: multipath-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Changed in: multipath-tools (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to multipath-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1467989 Title: Boot issues running multipath with a large number of paths To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/multipath-tools/+bug/1467989/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1466240] Re: FallingBlocks app isn't tied to store once installed
I don't think there's anything we can do in the scope itself to deal with these types of packages. I've added CPI to the list, as there may be something doable on the server. This will present a problem for updating of apps that are currently using the old namespacing and then switch to the new namespace declaration at some point. The problem with falling blocks in particular is that the package name in the store is still com.ubuntu.developer.labsin.fallingblocks while the package actually installs as labsin.fallingblocks to the system. This means that the scope is not able to associate the installed package with one in the store, as there is no labsin.fallingblocks entry in the store database. I'm not sure if the developer of the app can fix this in the dev portal, or not. ** Also affects: click-package-index Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: unity-scope-click (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1466240 Title: FallingBlocks app isn't tied to store once installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/click-package-index/+bug/1466240/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1468029] [NEW] unity8 crash breaking autopilot tests entering text with OSK
Public bug reported: When running the autopilot tests for ubuntu-system-settings, at some point it fails to enter text using the OSK. It works fine for smaller subsets of the tests, but not a full run. It simply stops entering text with keyboard.write. Once it gets in this state, it will continue to fail even for single tests until unity8 is restarted. During the test run, there is a unity8 crash file generated. I wasn't able to create a bug report for the problem directly from the OOPS on errors.ubuntu.com, you can find it at https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/c4124284-1999-11e5 -8fcb-fa163e75317b My device: current build number: 234 device name: mako channel: ubuntu-touch/devel-proposed/ubuntu last update: 2015-06-23 00:04:08 version version: 234 version ubuntu: 20150623 version device: 20150529.1 version custom: 20150623 @osomon has seen the same problem while running the webbrowser-app tests on krillin with vivid-proposed. ** Affects: unity8 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1468029 Title: unity8 crash breaking autopilot tests entering text with OSK To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1468029/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1468027] [NEW] change default CJK fonts to Noto CJK
Public bug reported: just realize that fonts-noto-cjk is available in the repository, finally its packaged. i don't really know about korean community. But for Chinese and Japanese community, i think that the answer is clear. noto-cjk is definitely better what we had before, like fonts- wqy and fonts-droid. Android community had received these complains for years, finally they got them fixed on lollipop. Fedora also set it as default chinese font start from F21. and of course, i still hope that ubuntu could drop those 69-language-selector fontconfig files, just like what F13 did. ** Affects: language-selector (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: tomoe_musashi (musashi) Status: New ** Changed in: language-selector (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = tomoe_musashi (musashi) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1468027 Title: change default CJK fonts to Noto CJK To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/language-selector/+bug/1468027/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1460521] Re: UEFI BootOrder is not empty after I removed the last boot entry.
It seems like given that this is reportedly fixed in 14.10; there's got to be a commit which fixes this upstream. I'd rather use that (since it's been reviewed, tested, and approved by upstream) than include other code, even if it does look fine. I think the relevant git commit is https://github.com/rhinstaller/efibootmgr/commit/301c0628f7fa7333791d2b5d79eb8e02fc848ee7. [Bug 1468030] [NEW] xdg-screensaver broken in kubuntu (KDE_SESSION_VERSION is 5, not 4 anymore)
Public bug reported: In line 420 /usr/bin/xdg-screensaver checks for the value of KDE_SESSION_VERSION. If it is 4, it uses the dbus methods, otherwise, thinking it is kde 3, it uses dcop. Unfortunately now KDE_SESSION_VERSION is 5 and xdg-screensaver falls back to dcop (which doesn't exists anymore): $ xdg-screensaver suspend 0x267 /usr/bin/xdg-screensaver: 652: /usr/bin/xdg-screensaver: dcop: not found Changing it to check for 5 instead of 4 at least it appears to work (barring bug #310351) Note that the rest of xdg-utils also check KDE_SESSION_VERSION, so they will probably fail too, but I didn't try them.
