[Bug 1480320] Re: ondemand init script sets governor "powersave" when only "powersave" and "performance" available
May I also chime in? If I wanted my machine to run at Celeron speed, I would not have bought a core i5. I think it makes no sense to select the "powersave" governors by default without telling the user in any way. Any non-expert user will not know why his machine runs 2x more slowly on Linux than Windows. It sounds like a very good reason to drop Linux (or, maybe, try a different distribution). I have read somewhere that intel-pstate's new "performance" is nicely engineered to cover most use cases; unlike the old "performance" it doesn't mean the machine will always consume as much power as possible. In fact the new "performance" consumes less power than the old "ondemand". [Bug 1453763] Re: Unable to differentiate between toggled and untoggled buttons
The buttons do appear depressed, but is barely visible, and has been an accessibility problem for me too. It seems that the buttons are impossible to tell apart except for their orange border when hovered, and when not hovering, the button's inset effect does change, but it's still hard to tell apart when put alongside other buttons. I think it can be best fixed by darkening the orange outline when a depressed button is in focus. [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c
As from ibus 1.5.11-1ubuntu1, ibus honors X11 compose files. With this change, together with the pending language-selector commit, all Portuguese users can type ccedilla easily in xenial. If either the display language or the regional formats setting is a Portuguese option, '+c will automatically result in ccedilla (ç). * It works in the same way for Brazilian Portuguese and Portuguese as spoken in Portugal. * It works whether the input method framework in use is ibus, fcitx, uim, or none. If neither the display language nor the regional formats setting is a Portuguese option, you can enable this feature manually by opening your ~/.profile file for editing and adding this line: export XCOMPOSEFILE=/usr/share/X11/locale/pt_BR.UTF-8/Compose See also: http://www.x.org/archive/X11R7.5/doc/man/man5/Compose.5.html ** Changed in: ibus (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress => Fix Released ** Changed in: language-selector (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress => Fix Committed ** No longer affects: ibus -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518056 Title: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xkeyboard-config/+bug/518056/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1037285] Re: /boot fills up after many kernel upgrades
When I installed 14.04 server it gave me the option to automatically install updates. I picked yes. I logged in a year later to find that my servers had installed three updates, then ran into this bug and stopped. In fact, kernel updates come out so often that half the time I try to install software apt is in a broken state because of this. I could almost understand this kind of behaviour if having a cronjob do apt-get upgrade was a non-standard setup, but if it's an option in the installer? Unacceptable, and stupid. A bug that completely breaks all security updates *should* be considered a security bug. If Microsoft made the same mistake we'd lose no time in mocking them for their insecure OS. Why should we hold ourselves to a different standard? My suggestion for a fix would be to fix apt-get autoremove to skip the current running kernel. That way, autoremove can be triggered automatically right after update without worrying about screwing up the currently running kernel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1037285 Title: /boot fills up after many kernel upgrades To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/1037285/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1529862] [NEW] please sync gbirthday from debian experimental 0.6.9-0.1
Public bug reported: explanation of why the ubuntu delta can be dropped: * debian/patches/03_disable_evo_database.patch: disable the Evolution database support: it will not work now that python-evolution cannot be built, and unnecessarily prompts users when the other databases are usable. * debian/control: drop python-evolution from Recommends and drop evolution-data-server from Depends; not needed with the Evo database disabled. the upstream release in experimental removed support for evolution completely too, so this can be dropped, it's either integrated in debian too or superseeded * debian/patches/02_fix_install_path.patch: - Fix FTBFS by adjusting the hardcoded Makefile install path to what precise uses (python2.7/dist-packages) the version in experimental builds using dh-python, and installs in /usr/share/gbirthday. Now, I don't know what the maintainer is going to do, but for sure he can't use pysupport anymore and install stuff in /usr/share/pysupport... so It's safe to just drop this. Changes since the last ubuntu upload: gbirthday (0.6.9-0.1) experimental; urgency=medium * Non-maintainer upload. * Imported Upstream version 0.6.9. * debian/control: stop recommending evolution-data-server, it's not supported anymore upstream. * debian/patches: + load-from-private-dir.patch: drop as applied upstream. + remove-too-early-import: add to remove a duplicate import, done outside a try/except block, so the program can follow the except stanza properly. -- Mattia Rizzolo Tue, 29 Dec 2015 08:54:24 + gbirthday (0.6.7-1.1) experimental; urgency=medium * Non-maintainer upload. * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.6: no changes needed. * Run wrap-and-sort. * Canonicalize Vcs-* fields. * Bump debhelper compat level to 9. * Stop recommending python-evolution. Closes: #707843 * Add a patch to allow gbirthday load from /usr/share/gbirthday if needed. * Build using dh-python instead of python-support. Closes: #786165. Also, move all the files to the private location /usr/share/gbirthday, since this is an application. * Rewrite debian/watch to use github as source. -- Mattia Rizzolo Wed, 16 Dec 2015 00:13:45 + gbirthday (0.6.7-1) unstable; urgency=low * new upstream release 0.6.7 - all events have unique UID. No further changes. -- Rolf Leggewie Tue, 17 Jun 2014 06:53:28 +0800 gbirthday (0.6.6-3) unstable; urgency=low * control: - bump build dependency for debhelper to allow dh overrides - drop obsolete DMUA field - update and drop as necessary the X?-Python-Version fields - bump policy to version 3.9.4. [Bug 1387198] Re: Evolution is not a possible data source in gbirthday anymore
@Mattia: Thanks for attending to this bug! What will be in Xenial? Evolution data support? GBirthday's evolution support was dropped because: "We'd need EDataServer from GObject Introspection, which is not GTK." https://github.com/Jerome-github/gbirthday/issues/1 But: "Judging by the current code of the Evolution backend, it shouldn't be too difficult, but I didn't find any documented example. I don't think I'll take the time to do this. I don't even use Evolution. What I suggest is to remove now obsolete Evolution backend, and to put it back the day someone codes it with GObject Introspection. Ideally, making the dependency to gi.repository optional for those who don't use Evolution backend." Anybody out there who could help? For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible: 1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an apport-collect): sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement or not. 3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed. [Bug 1485236] Re: gpu-manager generates an invalid xorg.conf file
I'm facing this same issue. I'm trying to move my old system (previously running on a lenovo t410 with discrete nvidia graphics) to a t450, only that has intel graphics. However, the generated xorg.conf still contains a reference to nvidia (I have Screen 0 "nvidia"). I have removed all traces of the nvidia driver from the system, but still experienced this issue. Fortunately I found this bug report. After looking at the source of gpu-manager, the problem is that it thinks that the nvidia module was unloaded. The reason is that what it does is that it looks at the syslog (instead of dmesg, as the comment for 'has_unloaded_module' states) and my syslog still contains the trace of the last boot on the old machine (the "nvidia: module" string fragment, that has_unloaded_module looks for). Note, that dmesg (of course) does not contain anything about nvidia. The solution would be to really scan dmesg instead of syslog (fixing line 708 here: https://github.com/tseliot/ubuntu-drivers- common/blob/master/share/hybrid/gpu-manager.c ). This bug may well have caused the problem for Rafał above. The quick fix is forcing rotation of (or removing) syslog and removing /etc/X11/xorg.conf . [Bug 1529266] Re: [HP Spectre x360 - 13-4005dx] suspend/resume failure
Actually, I did both reverse and forward bisects (see comments 11 and 12 respectively), but by reverse bisect didn't find the fix because the problem commit, 0691783, is a cherry pick of 4a1e2fe from the 4.3 branch. After locating the original commit I tested all the 4.3 releases and found they all demonstrate the bug. I've now isolated the fix between 4.3 and 4.4-rc1, so I'm starting a new reverse bisect to identify the fix. [Bug 1529901] [NEW] Caps Lock won't work in Wine
Public bug reported: Hi everyone, I'm running Ubuntu 15.10 and I'd like to report a bug about this: the caps lock won't work in any windows application. Here's what I did to confirm it's not just specific to one app: - I ran `winecfg` in a terminal and I went to the "About" section - I tried typing my anything with the caps lock ON in any text area and all of it wrote in lower-case It seems to happen with any version of wine; I've tried with v1.6.2, v1.7.52, v1.8 and v1.8-staging. 1) System info: - Description:Ubuntu 15.10 Release:15.10 - 2) apt-cache policy wine: - wine: Installed : 1:1.8.0-0ubuntu1~ubuntu15.10.1~ppa1 Candidate : 1:1.8.0-0ubuntu1~ubuntu15.10.1~ppa1 Table version : *** 1:1.8.0-0ubuntu1~ubuntu15.10.1~ppa1 0 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu/ wily/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:1.6.2-0ubuntu10 0 500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ wily/universe i386 Packages - 3) What I expected to happen - Have the letters written in uppercase when the Caps Lock key is ON - 4) What happens instead - I get the letters written in lowercase. ** Affects: wine (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: caps lock ubuntu wine ** Attachment added: "Letters writing in lowercase while the Caps Lock key is ON" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1529901/+attachment/4541815/+files/wine.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1529901 Title: Caps Lock won't work in Wine To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/1529901/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1291890] Re: Add Lenovo ThinkPad OneLink GigaLAN USB ID to ax88179 driver
It doesn't work for me, I have pretty much no idea how to do this. Can anyone please post step by step instructions for me? What I did so far: I have found a file called "ax88179_178a.ko" in "/lib/modules/3.13.0-74-generic/kernel/drivers/net" as well as in "/lib/modules/3.19.0-31-generic/kernel/drivers/net". I tried patching each of them with: patch "ax88179_178a.ko" < "0001-AX88179_178A-Add-VID-DID-for-Lenovo- OneLinkDock-Giga.patch" which returned in both cases: patching file ax88179_178a.ko Hunk #1 FAILED at 1418. Hunk #2 FAILED at 1435. 2 out of 2 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file ax88179_178a.ko.rej So my questions are: 1. What am I doing wrong? 2. "3.13.0-74-generic" and "3.19.0-31-generic" seem to be better than "3.13.0-18-generic", should the ethernet therefore work out of the box and I don't need to patch this? If so, I probably have another problem with my ethernet and would be grateful if someone can help me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1291890 Title: Add Lenovo ThinkPad OneLink GigaLAN USB ID to ax88179 driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1291890/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
