[Bug 1318637] Re: 045e:028e [Dell XPS 2720] Kernel Oops while using 360 gamepad with default drivers

2015-12-29 Thread Marc Di Luzio
This appears to now be fixed by this patch -

http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg31446.html

It's been merged into SteamOS Brewmaster (as they were in dire need of
the fix), but not into the mainline kernel yet.

[Bug 1480320] Re: ondemand init script sets governor "powersave" when only "powersave" and "performance" available

2015-12-29 Thread Armin Rigo
May I also chime in? If I wanted my machine to run at Celeron speed, I
would not have bought a core i5. I think it makes no sense to select
the "powersave" governors by default without telling the user in any
way. Any non-expert user will not know why his machine runs 2x more
slowly on Linux than Windows. It sounds like a very good reason to drop
Linux (or, maybe, try a different distribution).

I have read somewhere that intel-pstate's new "performance" is nicely
engineered to cover most use cases; unlike the old "performance" it
doesn't mean the machine will always consume as much power as possible.
In fact the new "performance" consumes less power than the old
"ondemand". The latter disappeared because the new "performance" covers
the same use cases and more.

[Bug 1453763] Re: Unable to differentiate between toggled and untoggled buttons

2015-12-29 Thread Ambrose Chua
The buttons do appear depressed, but is barely visible, and has been an
accessibility problem for me too.

It seems that the buttons are impossible to tell apart except for their
orange border when hovered, and when not hovering, the button's inset
effect does change, but it's still hard to tell apart when put alongside
other buttons.

I think it can be best fixed by darkening the orange outline when a
depressed button is in focus. Other methods like depressing the button
more would in my opinion make the design more inconsistent, as from what
I can tell by the way the buttons were made.

askpass[1] supports plymouth natively. Version 2:1.7.0-1 of cryptsetup
packages is prepared in the Debian SVN repository[2] at the moment and

[Bug 1529815] [NEW] InfiniBand DHCP flow with PRA and DHCP relay not working

2015-12-29 Thread Talat Batheesh
Public bug reported:

DHCP client is sending discover with Unicast type request for the offer, in
this configuration of IB to ETH through a relay we need the type to be
broadcast.

The issue is that when using dhclient from the client on Ubuntu (and only on
Ubuntu) with MOFED or inbox driver, we see that that DHCP server offers in
unicast instead of broadcast. It seems there is no way to correct this from the
client side using dhclient configuration file.
this issue exist even when we use always-broadcast statement in configuration
file.

in other vendors we see that discover request type is broadcast.

This is not only a problem with Numix. Ambiance and Radiance look kind

[Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-12-29 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
As from ibus 1.5.11-1ubuntu1, ibus honors X11 compose files. With this
change, together with the pending language-selector commit, all
Portuguese users can type ccedilla easily in xenial.

If either the display language or the regional formats setting is a
Portuguese option, '+c will automatically result in ccedilla (ç).

* It works in the same way for Brazilian Portuguese and Portuguese
  as spoken in Portugal.

* It works whether the input method framework in use is ibus,
  fcitx, uim, or none.

If neither the display language nor the regional formats setting is a
Portuguese option, you can enable this feature manually by opening your
~/.profile file for editing and adding this line:

export XCOMPOSEFILE=/usr/share/X11/locale/pt_BR.UTF-8/Compose

See also:
http://www.x.org/archive/X11R7.5/doc/man/man5/Compose.5.html

** Changed in: ibus (Ubuntu)
Status: In Progress => Fix Released

** Changed in: language-selector (Ubuntu)
Status: In Progress => Fix Committed

** No longer affects: ibus

[Bug 1037285] Re: /boot fills up after many kernel upgrades

2015-12-29 Thread Gordon
When I installed 14.04 server it gave me the option to automatically
install updates. I picked yes. I logged in a year later to find that
my servers had installed three updates, then ran into this bug and
stopped. In fact, kernel updates come out so often that half the time I
try to install software apt is in a broken state because of this.

I could almost understand this kind of behaviour if having a cronjob do
apt-get upgrade was a non-standard setup, but if it's an option in the
installer? Unacceptable, and stupid.

A bug that completely breaks all security updates *should* be considered
a security bug. If Microsoft made the same mistake we'd lose no time in
mocking them for their insecure OS. Why should we hold ourselves to a
different standard?

My suggestion for a fix would be to fix apt-get autoremove to skip the current
running kernel. That way, autoremove can be triggered automatically right
after update without worrying about screwing up the currently running kernel.

[Bug 1238194] Re: keyboard doesn't work to enter password with encrypted partitions ubuntu 13.10 saucy

2015-12-29 Thread Timothy Baker
I am encountering this same issue running 15.10 as a VM in hyper-v as
generation 2 vm.
I can't work around it as there is no vm, and disk is encrypted, Sucks as i'll
have to reinstall from scratch. Any fix that can be made during install? I
tried the update-initramfs -u -k all but it doesn't fix the issue.

[Bug 1469346] Re: DHCPv6 responses with multiple addresses applied incorrectly to interface

2015-12-29 Thread Alexey Zagarin
There is a patch exists that fixes this problem, but against more recent
version of NetworkManager: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=681764#c20
I tried to adapt it to 1.0.4 currently present in Ubuntu (and it works for me).
However, further testing needed.

[Bug 1529858] [NEW] Right after login error message shows. Also Unity is behaving unstable

2015-12-29 Thread AlejandroGTue
Public bug reported:

After an upgrade had problems and seemed X or Unity was always crashing. Got
it running in "most-stable" mode. Which means every now and then firefox tabs
stop working (affects only the active window of firefox the others remain fully
operational).
And after rebooting, or logging out the error message keeps on showring.

Have tried to google for a solution but still none so far.

Thanks to everyone and a special thanks to Gunnar who helped to put some
order in our despair for this fix which seemed small but, as we all can
see, was spreaded through several packages.

P.S.: the duplicated bugs could be closed as well.

[Bug 1529862] [NEW] please sync gbirthday from debian experimental 0.6.9-0.1

2015-12-29 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Public bug reported:

explanation of why the ubuntu delta can be dropped:

  * debian/patches/03_disable_evo_database.patch: disable the Evolution
database support: it will not work now that python-evolution cannot be
built, and unnecessarily prompts users when the other databases are usable.
  * debian/control: drop python-evolution from Recommends and drop
evolution-data-server from Depends; not needed with the Evo database
disabled.

the upstream release in experimental removed support for evolution
completely too, so this can be dropped, it's either integrated in debian
too or superseeded

  * debian/patches/02_fix_install_path.patch:
- Fix FTBFS by adjusting the hardcoded Makefile install path to what
  precise uses (python2.7/dist-packages)

the version in experimental builds using dh-python, and installs in
/usr/share/gbirthday.
Now, I don't know what the maintainer is going to do, but for sure he can't use
pysupport anymore and install stuff in /usr/share/pysupport... so It's safe to
just drop this.

Changes since the last ubuntu upload:

gbirthday (0.6.9-0.1) experimental; urgency=medium

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Imported Upstream version 0.6.9.
  * debian/control: stop recommending evolution-data-server, it's not supported
anymore upstream.
  * debian/patches:
+ load-from-private-dir.patch: drop as applied upstream.
+ remove-too-early-import: add to remove a duplicate import, done outside a
try/except block, so the program can follow the except stanza properly.

 -- Mattia Rizzolo Tue, 29 Dec 2015 08:54:24 +

gbirthday (0.6.7-1.1) experimental; urgency=medium

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.6: no changes needed.
  * Run wrap-and-sort.
  * Canonicalize Vcs-* fields.
  * Bump debhelper compat level to 9.
  * Stop recommending python-evolution.  Closes: #707843
  * Add a patch to allow gbirthday load from /usr/share/gbirthday if needed.
  * Build using dh-python instead of python-support.  Closes: #786165.
Also, move all the files to the private location /usr/share/gbirthday, since
this is an application.
  * Rewrite debian/watch to use github as source.

 -- Mattia Rizzolo Wed, 16 Dec 2015 00:13:45 +

gbirthday (0.6.7-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * new upstream release 0.6.7
- all events have unique UID. Closes: #747369
  * update my packaging copyright claim to 2014
  * control: bump to Debian standards 3.9.5. No further changes.

 -- Rolf Leggewie Tue, 17 Jun 2014 06:53:28

gbirthday (0.6.6-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * control:
- bump build dependency for debhelper to allow dh overrides
- drop obsolete DMUA field
- update and drop as necessary the X?-Python-Version fields
- bump policy to version 3.9.4. No further changes.
  * rules: always install to /usr/share/pyshared. Closes: #646806
Many thanks to Colin Watson.
  * copyright: update my claim to 2013

[Bug 1387198] Re: Evolution is not a possible data source in gbirthday anymore

2015-12-29 Thread tellapu
@Mattia: Thanks for attending to this bug! What will be in Xenial?
Evolution data support?

GBirthday's evolution support was dropped because:
"We'd need EDataServer from GObject Introspection, which is not GTK."
https://github.com/Jerome-github/gbirthday/issues/1
But:
"Judging by the current code of the Evolution backend, it shouldn't be too
difficult, but I didn't find any documented example. I don't think I'll take
the time to do this. I don't even use Evolution.
What I suggest is to remove now obsolete Evolution backend, and to put it back
the day someone codes it with GObject Introspection. Ideally, making the
dependency to gi.repository optional for those who don't use Evolution backend."

Anybody out there who could help? This would be great!

[Bug 1496761] Re: sudden system crash (frozen)

2015-12-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
DDS, as per
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A97_R20/HelpDesk_Download/ an update
to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2603). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed. If it's not reproducible, please
mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

For just the reason those bugs are marked as duplicates, there is no
need to update their statuses. So I think we are done now. :)

[Bug 1478799] Re: bluetooth not working in 15.10

2015-12-29 Thread bsb
After reading many recipes, which didn't help, I made this: cp
/etc/pulse/default.pa ~/.pulse/default.pa , and suddenly everything was ok. The
msg 'Home directory not accessible' should be (in sense) 'we can't find a
folder and a file' :-)

[Bug 1516251] Re: 10ec:b723 [HP Notebook - 15-ac106na] Wifi unstable

2015-12-29 Thread dark-vader
I've the same problem, its a Realtek rtl8327be and I think that the
problem is related with the antennas like said in this post:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2304607&page=2

It appears that there are 2 antennas and that some manufacturers (hp and
lenovo) only connect one with a cable that works as a physical antenna
and that the driver is trying to connect to the other one

So people have fixed this problem changing the cable from one connector
to the other

But anyway NO, Christopher, there isn't invalid because it works in
windows so its not faulty hardware.

So, if it works in windows is because it isn't faulty hardware

[Bug 1529266] Re: [HP Spectre x360 - 13-4005dx] suspend/resume failure

2015-12-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Stephen, to advise, what you did was a reverse (not forward) bisect.

Despite this, let this be marked Triaged for now, and the expectation
would be that the identified commit is reviewed for backporting.

[Bug 1514078] Re: Ubuntu freezes on boot when asking for encryption password on kernels newer then 3.19.0-28-generic

2015-12-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Bradley Arsenault, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from
kernel 3.19 to 4.4-rc7 in order to identify the last bad commit,
followed immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been
identified, then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into
your release. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

After the fix commit (not kernel version) has been identified, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1529381] Re: Updating 14.04.3 to latest updates renders system unbootable

2015-12-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Carl Englund, while you have made progress in kernel version bisecting,
the commit bisect is missing. As outlined in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1529381/comments/22
finding adjacent kernel versions is not a commit bisect.

[Bug 1529881] [NEW] CUPS 1.7.2 distorts colors on Canon PIXMA MG5250

2015-12-29 Thread Daniel Haas
Public bug reported:

1)

Description:Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS
Release:14.04

2)
apt-cache policy cups
cups:
  Installed: 1.7.2-0ubuntu1.7

3)
print colors accurately

4)
colors are distorted (not a printer problem, because copying and scanning works
accurately)

Original USB open-source printer driver (cnijfilter-mg5200series-3.40-1)
works, after installing libtiff4_3.9.6-9ubuntu1.2_i386:

see
http://www.canon.de/support/consumer_products/products/fax__multifunctionals/inkjet/pixma_mg_series/pixma_mg5250.aspx?type=drivers&language=&os=Linux%20%2832-bit%29)

The current driver in CUPS 1.7.2 distorts the colors (turning black into
red, blue into red etc.)

[Bug 1485236] Re: gpu-manager generates an invalid xorg.conf file

2015-12-29 Thread Laszlo Marai
I'm facing this same issue. I'm trying to move my old system (previously
running on a lenovo t410 with discrete nvidia graphics) to a t450, only
that has intel graphics. However, the generated xorg.conf still contains
a reference to nvidia (I have Screen 0 "nvidia").

I have removed all traces of the nvidia driver from the system, but
still experienced this issue. Fortunately I found this bug report. After
looking at the source of gpu-manager, the problem is that it thinks that
the nvidia module was unloaded. The reason is that what it does is that
it looks at the syslog (instead of dmesg, as the comment for
'has_unloaded_module' states) and my syslog still contains the trace of
the last boot on the old machine (the "nvidia: module" string fragment,
that has_unloaded_module looks for).

Note, that dmesg (of course) does not contain anything about nvidia. The
solution would be to really scan dmesg instead of syslog (fixing line
708 here: https://github.com/tseliot/ubuntu-drivers-
common/blob/master/share/hybrid/gpu-manager.c ).

This bug may well have caused the problem for Rafał above. The quick fix
is forcing rotation of (or removing) syslog and removing
/etc/X11/xorg.conf .

[Bug 1529266] Re: [HP Spectre x360 - 13-4005dx] suspend/resume failure

2015-12-29 Thread Stephen
Actually, I did both reverse and forward bisects (see comments 11 and 12
respectively), but by reverse bisect didn't find the fix because the
problem commit, 0691783, is a cherry pick of 4a1e2fe from the 4.3
branch.

After locating the original commit I tested all the 4.3 releases and
found they all demonstrate the bug. I've now isolated the fix between
4.3 and 4.4-rc1, so I'm starting a new reverse bisect to identify the
fix.

Thanks.

[Bug 1529901] [NEW] Caps Lock won't work in Wine

2015-12-29 Thread Gautier Rouleau
Public bug reported:

Hi everyone,

I'm running Ubuntu 15.10 and I'd like to report a bug about this: the
caps lock won't work in any windows application.

Here's what I did to confirm it's not just specific to one app:
- I ran `winecfg` in a terminal and I went to the "About" section
- I tried typing my anything with the caps lock ON in any text area and all of
it wrote in lower-case

It seems to happen with any version of wine; I've tried with v1.6.2,
v1.7.52, v1.8 and v1.8-staging.

1) System info:
-
Description:Ubuntu 15.10
Release:15.10
-

2) apt-cache policy wine:
-
wine:
  Installed : 1:1.8.0-0ubuntu1~ubuntu15.10.1~ppa1

3) What I expected to happen
-
Have the letters written in uppercase when the Caps Lock key is ON
-

4) What happens instead
-
I get the letters written in lowercase.

anyone please post step by step instructions for me?

What I did so far:

I have found a file called "ax88179_178a.ko" in
"/lib/modules/3.13.0-74-generic/kernel/drivers/net" as well as in
"/lib/modules/3.19.0-31-generic/kernel/drivers/net". I tried patching
each of them with:

patch "ax88179_178a.ko" < "0001-AX88179_178A-Add-VID-DID-for-Lenovo-
OneLinkDock-Giga.patch"

which returned in both cases:

patching file ax88179_178a.ko
Hunk #1 FAILED at 1418.
Hunk #2 FAILED at 1435.
2 out of 2 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file ax88179_178a.ko.rej

So my questions are:

1. What am I doing wrong?
2. "3.13.0-74-generic" and "3.19.0-31-generic" seem to be better than
"3.13.0-18-generic", should the ethernet therefore work out of the box and I
don't need to patch this? If so, I probably have another problem with my
ethernet and would be grateful if someone can help me.

[Bug 1529905] [NEW] Messages remain marked as unread after the thread is viewed

2015-12-29 Thread Pat McGowan
Public bug reported:

A number of message threads have a green count on them even after I have viewed
the thread
Possible scenario:
Click on the SMS bubble in the message indicator pulldown
Read and reply to the thread, then leave the thread
The count is still shown

Re-entering the thread will clear it, although I think in some cases it
hasn't

[Bug 1529909] [NEW] ListItemLayout: title text overlaps subtitle if maximumLineCount > 1

2015-12-29 Thread Stefano Verzegnassi
Public bug reported:

See attached screenshot.

What happens:
When the "title.maximumLineCount" property is set to a value greater than 1,
the second line of the title overlaps the subtitle, resulting in an unreadable
text.

What I'd expect to happen:
The subtitle is placed below the last line of the title, according to the
spacing and all the style/layout properties of ListItemLayout.

Attached to this report there's a QML document which reproduces the
issue.

[Bug 1454450] Re: Bluetooth mouse laggy and erratic

2015-12-29 Thread Alejandro R. Mosteo
I observe this in a 15.10 installation.

Linux 4.2.0-18-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Fri Nov 6 23:32:28 UTC 2015 i686
i686 i686 GNU/Linux

I'm using a logitech bluetooth kb+mouse. Everything works normally, then
I watch a movie in Kodi and when I exit to desktop again, mouse is very
laggy. So some kind of usb suspend might be involved.

Within Kodi, after a while, the keyboard won't even reconnect so I have
to exit with a remote. Once in the desktop the slugginesh manifests
itself.

Reloading the module as in comment #10 works for me, thanks for the
workaround.

[Bug 1516323] Re: With compositing off some apps have a huge black border

2015-12-29 Thread Silvio Bierman
Ah Alberts is right: the problem only happens with the terrible CSD
windows. Unfortunately in 16.04 Nautilus and GEdit have also become CSD
windows.

Libra, Orchis and Ultra-Flat are some thems I tried with the same
result. I could live with reverting all CSD windows as a workaround :)
