[Bug 1634464] Re: cloudimg apt missing dirmngr
Hello Julian, some notes on your answer. "If you want to use optional (deprecated) features of apt-key like adv" -> How could I tell that "apt-key adv" is deprecated? Neither the man page nor the command says that adv is deprecated, and I couldn't find anything related in the first Google search result. "like almost everything else" -> what are you referring to? apt-key itself is deprecated? Why this is not written in the man page or in the output? Also, apt-key manpage only tells the user about the need of installing gnupg manually if the advanced options are required - dirmngr is not mentioned ANYWHERE. So: - I'm using a pattern that I've been using, successfully, for years on Ubuntu and Debian distros; - apt-key is installed; - gnupg is installed; - there's no other documentation about that anywhere (release notes? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/YakketyYak/ReleaseNotes ) OF COURSE as a user I think there's a yakkety bug. And, I might say, this is an example of a bad migration path; if I perform this command on Xenial $ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv A1D267C030C00DCB877900ED939C61C5D1270819 [sudo] password for alan: Executing: /tmp/tmp.FAWWu2wvKx/gpg.1.sh --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv A1D267C030C00DCB877900ED939C61C5D1270819 gpg: requesting key D1270819 from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com gpg: key D1270819: "Alan Franzoni (automated signing key) " not changed gpg: Total number processed: 1 gpg: unchanged: 1 I should AT LEAST receive a "pending deprecation" warning. Re: [Bug 1590844] Re: Bluetooth headset not working with Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition
I am not currently optimistic for this for OTA-14. When this was raised to my attention, I had hoped it was an oversight in our initial bring up, and would therefore be something we could fix reasonably quickly. So far, this does not seem to be the case, and we've been discovering just how complex and interconnected this area of the phone is. So, this bug is proving far more complex to investigate than I imagined, and I am therefore uncomfortable to commit it to any particular deadline. I agree, if you are trying to use an impacted headset, the bug is a serious one. I apologise that this may not be the most helpful thing I can say. [Bug 1623087] Re: GnuPG can't find /usr/bin/dirmngr
This is related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1634464 as well, where the maintainer says the "apt-key adv" is deprecated ("like everything else"). Not easy to understand what's deprecated. By the way, "gpg --keyserver YYY --recv-key XXX" works 100% in Ubuntu Xenial, with no deprecation or warning whatsoever. It should not break in such unexpected way on Yakkety. It seems a gnupg->gnupg2 migration issue to me; I think that at least for Yakkety dirmngr should be included as a required dependency from gnupg2, a warning on the deprecation of such feature could be issues, then the dirmngr package could be switched to an optional dep LATER. Even though IMHO such behaviour is still bad. If I do "gpg --help" in ubuntu yakkety, I clearly see the "--recv-keys" option. Then it breaks when using it if dirmngr is not installed. I would not list such option and let the user employ a different command altogether for fetching remote keys, instead: that would be WAY easier. By the way, PLEASE consider that "apt-key adv --keyserver ..." is a VERY widely used and recommended command for installing keys. And some keyservers may not even expose a decent way of fetching public keys without the HKP protocol, making gpg --keyserver "the right choice". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1623087 Title: GnuPG can't find /usr/bin/dirmngr To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/1623087/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1634565] Re: konsole badly broken in yakkety: crashes, leaves process behind on exit using 100% cpu
Seems to be bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=343803. The bug seems to be triggered by the combination of Qt, plasma 5 *and* the legacy nvidia 340 driver. It is unfortunate that KDE people are marking this as "resolve" when clearly it is not. It is also unfortunate that they mark it as "upstream" (indicating that it is a bug in the nvidia stack) which suggests that they intend to do nothing about it, when in fact: - it is unclear if the bug was actually fixed with more modern nvidia proprietary drivers. The bug may be caused by some race and it may be merely the different timings in the more modern nvidia drivers or in noveau avoid triggering it; - it should be totally possible to have a Qt terminal that does not cause the problem, as Qterminal shows. ** Bug watch added: KDE Bug Tracking System #343803 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=343803 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1634565 Title: konsole badly broken in yakkety: crashes, leaves process behind on exit using 100% cpu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/konsole/+bug/1634565/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Bug was also reported to nvidia: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/879586/kf5-konsole-15-04-and-15-08-consumes-100 -cpu-on-close-only-with-proprietary-nvidia-driver/ Note that a comment there states: "From what I've seen it may not be the nVidia driver which is at fault. There seems to be a complicated threading issue which might or might not be caused by the driver...it may just be this driver exposes the issue differently." The fact that some people saw the issue even in Xenial with Nvidia 340 and I did not, as well as the fact that some report that on more modern graphics cards the issue disappeared with nvidia 361.18 and reappeared in 361.28 seems to confirm that this may just be a race somewhere (Qt?) and not a bug in the nvidia drivers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1634565 Title: konsole badly broken in yakkety: crashes, leaves process behind on exit using 100% cpu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/konsole/+bug/1634565/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1634796] [NEW] package puppet 4.5.2-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: Versuch, »/etc/puppet/puppet.conf« zu überschreiben, welches auch in Paket puppet-common 4.5.2-1ubuntu1 ist
Public bug reported: The problem is, that puppet cannot do the upgrade from 16.04 to 16.10 without manual interaction. Reason: Formerly the file /etc/puppet/puppet.conf belonged to puppet-common, and now belogs to puppet. puppet-common is now just a transitional package, but is still kept, since the puppet module packages still depend on puppet-common and not puppet. dpkg/apt now replaces the old puppet-common with the new puppet-common, but still keeps the configuration file /etc/puppet/puppet.conf as belonging to puppet-common and then complains, that puppet wants to overwrite this file as a foreign file. I had to manually purge puppet-common (to convince dpkg that /etc/puppet/puppet.conf does not anymore belong to puppet-common) and then to reinstall to get things installed correctly. Proposed solution: First fix all those puppet module files to depend on puppet and not puppet-common anymore. Then put a conflict in puppet in order to have puppet-common thrown out. (And find a way to preserve puppet.conf while upgrading...) regards ProblemType: Package DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.10 Package: puppet 4.5.2-1ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-43.63-generic 4.4.21 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-43-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zunicode zcommon znvpair zavl ApportVersion: 2.20.3-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon Oct 17 12:36:05 2016 ErrorMessage: Versuch, »/etc/puppet/puppet.conf« zu überschreiben, welches auch in Paket puppet-common 4.5.2-1ubuntu1 ist InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-04-22 (179 days ago) InstallationMedia: Lubuntu 16.04 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160420) PackageArchitecture: all RelatedPackageVersions: dpkg 1.18.10ubuntu1 apt 1.3.1 SourcePackage: puppet Title: package puppet 4.5.2-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: Versuch, »/etc/puppet/puppet.conf« zu überschreiben, welches auch in Paket puppet-common 4.5.2-1ubuntu1 ist UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to yakkety on 2016-10-17 (1 days ago) modified.conffile..etc.puppet.auth.conf: [modified] modified.conffile..etc.puppet.hiera.yaml: [modified] modified.conffile..etc.puppet.puppet.conf: [deleted] mtime.conffile..etc.puppet.auth.conf: 2016-05-12T10:48:27.194661 mtime.conffile..etc.puppet.hiera.yaml: 2016-05-17T09:56:29.324644 ** Affects: puppet (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-package yakkety -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1634796 Title: package puppet 4.5.2-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: Versuch, »/etc/puppet/puppet.conf« zu überschreiben, welches auch in Paket puppet-common 4.5.2-1ubuntu1 ist To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/puppet/+bug/1634796/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1633839] Re: No symbol table. Press any key to continue
I have tried 'boot-repair' in normal and advanced mode and have tried reinstalling grub via sudo grub-install /dev/sda1 (then sda2, and finally simply sda). All of these approaches have reported 'success' in bash/terminal etc - but none have actually solved my problem. Actually I'm wondering where my 'working' grub is actually installed. I have a UEFI machine which originally came with Windows 8. On installing Ubuntu I did what was necessary to allow Ubuntu 14.04 to be installed successfully instead of Windows, and have 3 partitions: sda1 is allegedly my boot partition (Fat 32), sda2 my main partition and finally there is a sda3 - for Linux-Swap. I suppose it is possible I have two grubs installed, one in sda1 and the other in sda2. Is it possible that a delay in reaching the 'working' grub (say in sda2) is provoking the 'no symbol table found' error in Ubuntu 16.10? I wonder what would happen if I deleted partition sda1, expanded sda2 into its space and then tried boot-repair via usb? Or maybe kept all 3 partitions but converted sda1 to ext4. However, I'm reluctant to risk these approaches for fear of not being able to recover my system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1633839 Title: No symbol table.
