[Bug 1634545] Re: ipv6: connected routes are missing after a down/up cycle on the loopback

2016-10-19 Thread Nicolas Dichtel
> I built Xenial and Yakkety test kernels with this patch. It looks like
it is not needed in Trusty, since commit 33d99113b110 was introduced in
3.14-rc1.

In fact, it is needed. The commit 33d99113b110 is already a fix (it
fixes the same kind of problems) of the previous commits. So on trusty,
we need 33d99113b110 + a220445f9f43.

[Bug 1633721] Re: Weird input behaviour in some Plasma stuff (Kicker, KRunner, privilege window)

2016-10-19 Thread Denny
Ok, so krunner also works, if killed and restarted (did not know that
this was something separate). The bug however remains on reboot. Which
probably means that plasma and krunner get started to early or something
like that.

Is there something I could kill and restart to get my priviledge
escalation windows (I dont know how this thing is called, when you are
asked to provide your sudo pw), as a workaround?

[Bug 1634767] [NEW] Shotwell 0.22.0 Ubuntu 16.10 trash process not working as expected

2016-10-19 Thread SirPecanGum
Public bug reported:

Using "Delete" or "Empty Rubbish Bin" with the "remove and trash" option
in Shotwell 0.22.0 rubbish bin, files do not appear in system rubbish
bin as expected in Ubuntu 16.10. However, the aforementioned files do
appear in the system rubbish bin when viewed in Ubuntu 14.04 so Shotwell
0.22.0 in Ubuntu 16.10 seems to have performed correctly.

[Bug 1634464] Re: cloudimg apt missing dirmngr

2016-10-19 Thread Alan Franzoni
Hello Julian,
some notes on your answer.

"If you want to use optional (deprecated) features of apt-key like adv"
->

How could I tell that "apt-key adv" is deprecated? Neither the man page
nor the command says that adv is deprecated, and I couldn't find
anything related in the first Google search result.

"like almost everything else" -> what are you referring to? apt-key
itself is deprecated? Why this is not written in the man page or in the
output?

Also, apt-key manpage only tells the user about the need of installing
gnupg manually if the advanced options are required - dirmngr is not
mentioned ANYWHERE.

So:
- I'm using a pattern that I've been using, successfully, for years on Ubuntu
and Debian distros;
- apt-key is installed;
- gnupg is installed;
- there's no other documentation about that anywhere (release notes?
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/YakketyYak/ReleaseNotes )

OF COURSE as a user I think there's a yakkety bug. And, I might say, this is an
example of a bad migration path; if I perform this command on Xenial

$ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv
A1D267C030C00DCB877900ED939C61C5D1270819

gpg: key D1270819: "Alan Franzoni (automated signing key)

gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg:  unchanged: 1

I should AT LEAST receive a "pending deprecation" warning. On the
contrary, it works 100% and gives me absolutely no clue on the fact I'm
doing something wrong.

That's not the way to go.

here is the right place...

Although the log also shows you're experiencing general Intel bug

[Bug 1626436] Re: [4.8 regression] boot has become very slow

2016-10-19 Thread Florian W.
This is what I get right after boot and login into Unity 7 (executed in Gnome
Terminal):
$ ps aux | grep kworker | wc -l
1004

Kernel is 4.8.0-22-generic. After a few minutes, only 21 kworkers remain. Load
after 4 minutes is not excessive (1244 sleeping processes), forgot to check
load right after boot:
up 4 min,  1 user,  load average: 1,01, 1,79, 0,94

I'm not sure if it is of any help, but I've attached the output of "ps
aux | grep kworker".

[Bug 1634777] [NEW] bad modification time in beamericonbook.pdf

2016-10-19 Thread Krzysztof Leszczyński
Public bug reported:

The modification time of /usr/share/texlive/texmf-
dist/tex/latex/beamer/art/beamericonbook.pdf is year 2009 while the
modification time of /usr/share/texlive/texmf-
dist/tex/latex/beamer/art/beamericonbook.tex is 2010.

That means that when I have a recipe

  %.pdf: %.tex

in my Makefile AND one of my tex files includes the above pdf Makefiles
tries to recompile it and fails because it is on /usr and I am not a
root.

I think that this pdf was not properly recompiled while building the
package texlive-latex-recommended

Re: [Bug 1590844] Re: Bluetooth headset not working with Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition

2016-10-19 Thread John McAleely
I am not currently optimistic for this for OTA-14. When this was raised to
my attention, I had hoped it was an oversight in our initial bring up, and
would therefore be something we could fix reasonably quickly. So far, this
does not seem to be the case, and we've been discovering just how complex
and interconnected this area of the phone is.

So, this bug is proving far more complex to investigate than I imagined,
and I am therefore uncomfortable to commit it to any particular deadline.

I agree, if you are trying to use an impacted headset, the bug is a serious
one. I apologise that this may not be the most helpful thing I can say.

[Bug 1623087] Re: GnuPG can't find /usr/bin/dirmngr

2016-10-19 Thread Alan Franzoni
This is related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1634464 as well,
where the maintainer says the "apt-key adv" is deprecated ("like
everything else"). Not easy to understand what's deprecated.

By the way, "gpg --keyserver YYY --recv-key XXX" works 100% in Ubuntu
Xenial, with no deprecation or warning whatsoever. It should not break
in such unexpected way on Yakkety. It seems a gnupg->gnupg2 migration
issue to me; I think that at least for Yakkety dirmngr should be
included as a required dependency from gnupg2, a warning on the
deprecation of such feature could be issues, then the dirmngr package
could be switched to an optional dep LATER.

Even though IMHO such behaviour is still bad. If I do "gpg --help" in
ubuntu yakkety, I clearly see the "--recv-keys" option. Then it breaks
when using it if dirmngr is not installed. I would not list such option
and let the user employ a different command altogether for fetching
remote keys, instead: that would be WAY easier.

By the way, PLEASE consider that

"apt-key adv --keyserver ..."

is a VERY widely used and recommended command for installing keys. And
some keyservers may not even expose a decent way of fetching public keys
without the HKP protocol, making gpg --keyserver "the right choice".

[Bug 1634565] Re: konsole badly broken in yakkety: crashes, leaves process behind on exit using 100% cpu

2016-10-19 Thread Sergio Callegari
Seems to be bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=343803.

The bug seems to be triggered by the combination of Qt, plasma 5 *and*
the legacy nvidia 340 driver.

It is unfortunate that KDE people are marking this as "resolve" when
clearly it is not.

It is also unfortunate that they mark it as "upstream" (indicating that
it is a bug in the nvidia stack) which suggests that they intend to do
nothing about it, when in fact:

- it is unclear if the bug was actually fixed with more modern nvidia
proprietary drivers. The bug may be caused by some race and it may be
merely the different timings in the more modern nvidia drivers or in
noveau avoid triggering it;

- it should be totally possible to have a Qt terminal that does not
cause the problem, as Qterminal shows.

[Bug 1634565] Re: konsole badly broken in yakkety: crashes, leaves process behind on exit using 100% cpu

2016-10-19 Thread Sergio Callegari
Bug was also reported to nvidia:

https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/879586/kf5-konsole-15-04-and-15-08-consumes-100
-cpu-on-close-only-with-proprietary-nvidia-driver/

Note that a comment there states: "From what I've seen it may not be the
nVidia driver which is at fault. There seems to be a complicated
threading issue which might or might not be caused by the driver...it
may just be this driver exposes the issue differently."

The fact that some people saw the issue even in Xenial with Nvidia 340
and I did not, as well as the fact that some report that on more modern
graphics cards the issue disappeared with nvidia 361.18 and reappeared
in 361.28 seems to confirm that this may just be a race somewhere (Qt?)
and not a bug in the nvidia drivers.

[Bug 1546674] Re: virt-aa-helper Apparmor profile missing rules for name resolution

Thanks Simon,
I found another one to trigger which is when failing to start a guest.
I can't reproduce with a working guest, but still it is a way to trigger -
although it doesn't seem  reliably.

Still I have a system to verify on for myself reporting e.g.
[85681.586318] audit: type=1400 audit(1476865131.741:189): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="open" profile="/usr/lib/libvirt/virt-aa-helper"
name="/etc/nsswitch.conf" pid=8448 comm="virt-aa-helper" requested_mask="r"
denied_mask="r" fsuid=0 ouid=0
[85681.586329] audit: type=1400 audit(1476865131.741:190): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="open" profile="/usr/lib/libvirt/virt-aa-helper"
name="/etc/host.conf" pid=8448 comm="virt-aa-helper" requested_mask="r"
denied_mask="r" fsuid=0 ouid=0

I much more like your approach.

I'll prep something to test early next week (on a business trip the next
days)

[Bug 1634796] [NEW] package puppet 4.5.2-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: Versuch, »/etc/puppet/puppet.conf« zu überschreiben, welches auch in Paket puppet-common 4.5.2-1ubuntu1 ist

2016-10-19 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

The problem is, that puppet cannot do the upgrade from 16.04 to 16.10
without manual interaction.

Reason:

Formerly the file /etc/puppet/puppet.conf belonged to puppet-common, and
now belogs to puppet. puppet-common is now just a transitional package,
but is still kept, since the puppet module packages still depend on
puppet-common and not puppet.

dpkg/apt now replaces the old puppet-common with the new puppet-common,
but still keeps the configuration file /etc/puppet/puppet.conf as
belonging to puppet-common and then complains, that puppet wants to
overwrite this file as a foreign file.

I had to manually purge puppet-common (to convince dpkg that
/etc/puppet/puppet.conf does not anymore belong to puppet-common) and
then to reinstall to get things installed correctly.

Proposed solution:

First fix all those puppet module files to depend on puppet and not
puppet-common anymore.

Then put a conflict in puppet in order to have puppet-common thrown out.

(And find a way to preserve puppet.conf while upgrading...)

[Bug 1634802] [NEW] Could not insert module

2016-10-19 Thread Daiwai
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu release: 16.10 Yakkety Yak
Kernel version: 4.8.0-22-generic x86_64
Package version: 304.132-0ubuntu1

The nvidia module cannot be loaded. The following errors are reported:
Could not insert module Unknown symbol in module

and:

nvidia: Unknown symbol mtrr_del (err 0)
nvidia: Unknown symbol mtrr_add (err 0)

It looks like the buildfix_kernel_4.3.patch, which is supposed to be
dealing with those calls, is not applied in this release of the package.

The package was working fine with the previous fully updated Ubuntu
version 16.04 prior to the upgrade to 16.10.

[Bug 1633839] Re: No symbol table. Press any key to continue

2016-10-19 Thread David Oser
I have tried 'boot-repair' in normal and advanced mode and have tried
reinstalling grub via sudo grub-install /dev/sda1 (then sda2, and finally
simply sda). All of these approaches have reported 'success' in bash/terminal
etc - but none have actually solved my problem.
Actually I'm wondering where my 'working' grub is actually installed. I have a
UEFI machine which originally came with Windows 8. On installing Ubuntu I did
what was necessary to allow Ubuntu 14.04 to be installed successfully instead
of Windows, and have 3 partitions: sda1 is allegedly my boot partition (Fat
32), sda2 my main partition and finally there is a sda3 - for Linux-Swap. I
suppose it is possible I have two grubs installed, one in sda1 and the other in
sda2. Is it possible that a delay in reaching the 'working' grub (say in sda2)
is provoking the 'no symbol table found' error in Ubuntu 16.10?
I wonder what would happen if I deleted partition sda1, expanded sda2 into its
space and then tried boot-repair via usb? Or maybe kept all 3 partitions but
converted sda1 to ext4. However, I'm reluctant to risk these approaches for
fear of not being able to recover my system.

[Bug 1633819] Re: Some PyQt4 applications fail to start in Yakkety due to missing QtWebKit

(The apt-mark hold bit prevents the packages from being upgraded. apt-
mark unhold then presumably allows them to be upgraded again.)
