[Bug 1352322] Re: gdebi FTBFS when the locale is not en_US
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + It's impossible to build gdebi from source with the locale other + than en_US in Trusty. + + It had been fixed in gdebi 0.9.5.5, which is available in newer + releases, starting from Vivid. The backported fix can be applied + in Trusty. + + The debdiff which is attached to this report contains the fix. + + [Test Case] + + Steps to reproduce: + + 1. Have some non-en_US locale currently set in your system. +I have ru_RU for example. + 2. sudo apt-get install dpkg-dev devscripts build-essential + 3. sudo apt-get build-dep gdebi + 4. apt-get source gdebi + 5. cd gdebi-0.9.5.3ubuntu2 + 6. debuild -us -uc + + The build process will fail as shown in the first log attached + to this report. + + [Regression Potential] + + The patch only affects a test which is launched during the build, + it doesn't affect runtime at all. The test is passed successfully + with the patch. All the tests are independent from each other, so + the patch can't introduce any regressions to other tests. + + [Original Description] + System: Xubuntu 14.04. Current gdebi version: 0.9.5.3ubuntu2 (from trusty-updates). Steps to reproduce: 1. Have some non-en_US locale currently set in your system. I have ru_RU for example. 2. sudo apt-get install dpkg-dev devscripts build-essential 3. sudo apt-get build-dep gdebi 4. apt-get source gdebi 5. cd gdebi-0.9.5.3ubuntu2 6. debuild -us -uc The build process will fail as shown in the first attachment. Now try the same with locale set to en_US (but do a cleanup first): 7. debuild clean 8. LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 debuild -us -uc The build process will succeed as shown in the second attachment. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1352322 Title: gdebi FTBFS when the locale is not en_US To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdebi/+bug/1352322/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Below is the modinfo bnxt_en driver output. root@ubuntu160403-maaa:~# modinfo bnxt_en filename: /lib/modules/4.13.0-041300-generic/kernel/drivers/net/ethernet/broadcom/bnxt/bnxt_en.ko version:1.7.0 description:Broadcom BCM573xx network driver license:GPL srcversion: C20CD2026202947F8BF535A alias: pci:v14E4d16E5sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16E1sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16DCsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16D3sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16CBsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16C1sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d1609sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d1606sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d1614sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16F1sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16EFsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16EEsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16EDsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16ECsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16EBsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16EAsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16E9sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16E8sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16E7sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16E3sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16E2sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16DFsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16DEsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16D9sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16D8sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16D7sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16D6sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16D5sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16D4sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16D2sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16D1sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16D0sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16CFsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16CEsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16CDsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16CCsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16CAsv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16C9sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16C8sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v14E4d16C0sv*sd*bc*sc*i* depends: intree: Y name: bnxt_en vermagic: 4.13.0-041300-generic SMP mod_unload ** Summary changed: - Broadcom NXE controller Cumulus devices ID's are missing in 16.04.03 + Broadcom NXE controller Cumulus devices ID's are missing in 16.04.03 'kernel-fixed-upstream' -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1715368 Title: Broadcom NXE controller Cumulus devices ID's are missing in 16.04.03 'kernel-fixed-upstream' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1715368/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1716205] [NEW] slovak keyboard does not work in kde
Public bug reported: KDE Plasma 5.9.5. I have the Slovak QWERTY keyboard as the secondary one. However when I switch to SK keyboard I am not able to input slovak- based keys. It is as if the keyboard was not switched at all and the layout stays at US-EN. For example pressing + c should yield č but it instead prints +c. Previously this randomly failed in some apps, e.g. it worked in Libre Office Writer but did not work in Konsole; now it doesn't work at all. Pressing 3 should yield š but instead types 3. Thanks! [Bug 1716201] [NEW] gnome software continuously takes more memory
Public bug reported: After opening gnome software, it starts taking more and more memory in big chunks, around 80MB per second. While I'm writing this report it has already taken 3.1GB of memory. As time passes it also asks more CPU, taking sometimes up to 33% on my machine. [Bug 1710487] Re: evince silently crashes with apparmor error on artful
FWIW: Jamie, while reviewing the Debian..Ubuntu packaging log in order to merge the Ubuntu one into the Debian source package, I see a few instances of duplicate packaging work going on (e.g. the fix for this bug, upstart job removal). Such duplicate work could have been avoided by merging from Debian first… which would also have avoided mistakes like keeping the obsolete ubuntu-manpage-updates.patch, and removing the initscript by mistake to re-add it 3 versions later. Let me know if I can adjust my workflow in a way that makes it easier for you folks to merge from Debian more consistently, I'm open to requests & suggestions :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1710487 Title: evince silently crashes with apparmor error on artful To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/1710487/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1716258] [NEW] Keyboard input temporarily ignored when typing root encryption password
Public bug reported: Symptoms: The computer begins its boot process, then the root decryption password prompt appears (via Plymouth) and I start typing. The first letters are caught, but some letters are not captured. It's as if the keyboard shut down during a few seconds and then returned, and I could type the whole password properly. Things I tried: - Typing the password blindly (just inputting the entire password and hitting Enter without worrying about missing characters) but it rejected the password as incorrect. - Typing decryption password without Plymouth (this is not a Plymouth bug). This affects Debian 9 (didn't affect Debian 8), Fedora, Arch Linux and possibly others. It cannot be reproduced with Ubuntu or other distributions with old packages. First, I followed the manual instructions in this site: https://unixblogger.com/2016/08/11/how-to-get-your-realtek- rtl8111rtl8168-working-updated-guide/ I tried to install dependencies by entering the code into terminal: sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r) and then I downloaded the driver from Realtek's site: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1=13=5=5=4=3=false#2 I downloaded the version which states Linux driver for kernel up to 4.7. I don't exactly if that is the case, if that one is causing me the problems. Then I blacklisted my already installed and working r8169 driver by this code: user@linux:~$ sudo sh -c 'echo blacklist r8169 >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf' Then I untarred the archive by this code: tar xfvj 0009-r8168-8.044.02.tar.bz2 which showed me the following output: r8168-8.044.02/ r8168-8.044.02/autorun.sh r8168-8.044.02/Makefile r8168-8.044.02/README r8168-8.044.02/src/ r8168-8.044.02/src/Makefile r8168-8.044.02/src/Makefile_linux24x r8168-8.044.02/src/r8168.h r8168-8.044.02/src/r8168_asf.c r8168-8.044.02/src/r8168_asf.h r8168-8.044.02/src/r8168_dash.h r8168-8.044.02/src/r8168_fiber.h r8168-8.044.02/src/r8168_n.c r8168-8.044.02/src/r8168_realwow.h r8168-8.044.02/src/rtltool.c r8168-8.044.02/src/rtltool.h r8168-8.044.02/src/rtl_eeprom.c r8168-8.044.02/src/rtl_eeprom.h After that I got into that folder r8168-8.044.02/ and compiled the script autorun.sh sudo ./autorun.shwhich showed me the following output on terminal: Check old driver and unload it. rmmod r8169 Build the module and install At main.c:158: - SSL error:02001002:system library:fopen:No such file or directory: bss_file.c:175 - SSL error:2006D080:BIO routines:BIO_new_file:no such file: bss_file.c:178 sign-file: certs/signing_key.pem: No such file or directory Backup r8169.ko rename r8169.ko to r8169.bak DEPMOD 4.10.0-33-generic load module r8168 Updating initramfs. Then I run this code: lsmod | grep r8168 which output: r8168 499712 0 Then I run sudo ethtool -i enp2s0. After that I suspended my PC and reopened it back, but it had the same problem, it did not connect to Wired connection after suspension. I had reboot it to get working Ethernet connection. After rebooting I tried to install it automatically rather than manually, so I edited /etc/apt/sources.list, I changed xenial main restricted to xenial main restricted universe. Then I sudo apt-get update, then I sudo apt-get install r8168-dkms. However, those things also did not help, when I suspended my PC. So, I had to reboot again to get internet connection. Public bug reported: Lubuntu seems to crash on my computer (a Lenovo Ideapad 510 running with an Intel Core i5 CPU 7th Gen and a NVIDIA GEFORCE graphics card) on a regular basis. Just started using Linux yesterday, so there is quite a high chance I'm doing something wrong. I am encountering issues like this while using the terminal, and the problems seems to excacerbate when I try to run installation commands or try to update programs. I have heard Ubuntu is buggy, especially with a NVIDIA Graphics Card, but I never would've thought it'd be this buggy and difficult to use. Perhaps it's time to switch to Debian or Mint? [Bug 1352322] Re: gdebi FTBFS when the locale is not en_US
[Impact] It's impossible to build gdebi from source with the locale other than en_US in Trusty. It had been fixed in gdebi 0.9.5.5, which is available in newer releases, starting from Vivid. The backported fix can be applied in Trusty. The debdiff which is attached to this report contains the fix. [Test Case] Steps to reproduce: 1. Have some non-en_US locale currently set in your system. I have ru_RU for example. 2. sudo apt-get install dpkg-dev devscripts build-essential 3. sudo apt-get build-dep gdebi 4. apt-get source gdebi 5. cd gdebi-0.9.5.3ubuntu2 6. debuild -us -uc The build process will fail as shown in the first log attached to this report. [Regression Potential] The patch only affects a test which is launched during the build, it doesn't affect runtime at all. The test is passed successfully with the patch. All the tests are independent from each other, so the patch can't introduce any regressions to other tests.
[Bug 1582878] Re: panel-6-indicat uses 25% CPU
If non-essential processes load CPU, you can just drop their priority and let them. Here's my shell script from the time more XFCE plugins were voracious - save this where you can find it, make sure the file is executable, then add "/leash_cpuhogs.sh" in Application Autostart tab in Session and Startup - those seem to run after enforced session applications proper, so unless there are more slowing bugs, it will work (otherwise "sleep 10" line at the start should do the trick). To see what exactly is done just uncomment diagnostics and start it from terminal. #!/bin/sh NEWPRIORITY=8 HOGNAMES="libindicator" # it's a regexp, so add more as "(libindicator|libcpugraph|whatever)" # ps xao %p%a | grep -iP $HOGNAMES | grep -v "logout" | grep -v "grep" HOGLIST=`ps xao %p%a | grep -iP $HOGNAMES | grep -v "logout" | grep -v "grep" | grep -o "^\s*[0-9]*"` echo "$HOGLIST" | while read thisproc do # echo deprioritizing $thisproc renice -n $NEWPRIORITY -p $thisproc done -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1582878 Title: panel-6-indicat uses 25% CPU To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4/+bug/1582878/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1651970] Re: gscan2pdf only scans one page
The problem is caused by your backend not having a standard name for the "document source" option. The standard name is "source". Yours uses "doc-source". Therefore, because gscan2pdf doesn't recognise you are using an ADF, it assumes you are using a flatbed, and only allows you to scan 1 page. In Edit/Preferences, you should find a check box "allow batch scanning from flatbed". [Bug 1699850] Re: Reliable network connectivity for apt-daily
This bug was fixed in the package apt - 1.5~rc2 --- apt (1.5~rc2) unstable; urgency=medium [ Julian Andres Klode ] * Actually install apt_auth.conf manual page (Closes: #873934) * test: Workaround gpgv warning * apt-daily: Wait for network before daily updates. Introduce a new helper, apt-helper wait-online that uses NetworkManager and/or systemd-networkd to wait for them reporting online, with a time out of 30 seconds; and run that helper before running the daily update script. (LP: #1699850) * apt-daily: Pull in network-online.target in service, not timer * Do not warn about duplicate "legacy" targets (Closes: #839259) (LP: #1697120) * cdrom: Don't hardcode "Files" field for copying source files * ftparchive: Do not pass through disabled hashes in Sources (Closes: #872963) * Directly link against libudev on Linux systems - this does not affect public API and ABI, but protected pkgUdevCdromDevices function pointers were renamed and are now always NULL, even if Dlopen returns true. [ Christos Trochalakis ] * doc: correct '--allow-releaseinfo-change-*' typos (Closes: #873914) [ Frans Spiesschaert ] * Dutch program translation update (Closes: #874285) * Dutch manpage translation update (Closes: #874293) [ David Kalnischkies ] * don't write & chmod /dev/null log files * don't ask an uninit _system for supported archs (LP: #1613184) -- Julian Andres KlodeSat, 09 Sep 2017 21:47:14 +0200 ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1699850 Title: Reliable network connectivity for apt-daily To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/systemd/+bug/1699850/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
