[Bug 1352322] Re: gdebi FTBFS when the locale is not en_US

2017-09-10 Thread Simon Quigley
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ It's impossible to build gdebi from source with the locale other
+ than en_US in Trusty.
+
+ It had been fixed in gdebi 0.9.5.5, which is available in newer
+ releases, starting from Vivid. The backported fix can be applied
+ in Trusty.
+
+ The debdiff which is attached to this report contains the fix.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ Steps to reproduce:
+
+ 1. Have some non-en_US locale currently set in your system.
+I have ru_RU for example.
+ 2. sudo apt-get install dpkg-dev devscripts build-essential
+ 3. sudo apt-get build-dep gdebi
+ 4. apt-get source gdebi
+ 5. cd gdebi-0.9.5.3ubuntu2
+ 6. debuild -us -uc
+
+ The build process will fail as shown in the first log attached
+ to this report.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ The patch only affects a test which is launched during the build,
+ it doesn't affect runtime at all. The test is passed successfully
+ with the patch. All the tests are independent from each other, so
+ the patch can't introduce any regressions to other tests.
+
+ [Original Description]
+
  System: Xubuntu 14.04.
Current gdebi version: 0.9.5.3ubuntu2 (from trusty-updates).

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Have some non-en_US locale currently set in your system. I have ru_RU for
example.
  2. sudo apt-get install dpkg-dev devscripts build-essential
  3. sudo apt-get build-dep gdebi
  4. apt-get source gdebi
  5. cd gdebi-0.9.5.3ubuntu2
  6. debuild -us -uc

The build process will fail as shown in the first attachment.

Now try the same with locale set to en_US (but do a cleanup first):

  7. debuild clean
  8. LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 debuild -us -uc

The build process will succeed as shown in the second attachment.

2017-09-10 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Also in gnome-tweak-tool, not only g-c-c.

** Description changed:

  To reproduce:

  1. Open gnome-control-center (latest 1:3.25.92.1-0ubuntu1)
  2. Look at the vertical separator of the sidebar; between the categories and
settings; it is misaligned with the vertical separator above it in the window
decoration
  3. Select Dock; the sidebar separator becomes darker and it is still
misaligned

[Bug 1715368] Re: Broadcom NXE controller Cumulus devices ID's are missing in 16.04.03

2017-09-10 Thread Anand Rathi
We installed the latest upstream kernel and we do see the Broadcom devices
listed.
Below is the mail I have copied from the Engineer who verified this.

Hi Anand,

Installed 4.13.0-041300 upstream kernel on top on Ubuntu 16.04.03 base
kernel. It has bnxt_en 1.7.0 driver and both CuW A0 and CuW+ B1 cards
are getting detected with this driver. Below is the modinfo bnxt_en
driver output.

Unless they're deaf (get them a hearing aid) or you need to get their
attention in an emergency, what's the point? Volume of voice does very
little to add to communication, and makes a quiet voice less effective
in the future.

Seriously, except to get attention at distance when you can't move closer,
what is the point? What does yelling do for you that a normal voice doesn't?

[Bug 1716205] [NEW] slovak keyboard does not work in kde

2017-09-10 Thread Martin Vysny
Public bug reported:

KDE Plasma 5.9.5. I have the Slovak QWERTY keyboard as the secondary
one. However when I switch to SK keyboard I am not able to input slovak-
based keys. It is as if the keyboard was not switched at all and the
layout stays at US-EN. For example pressing + c should yield č but it
instead prints +c. Previously this randomly failed in some apps, e.g. it
worked in Libre Office Writer but did not work in Konsole; now it
doesn't work at all. Pressing 3 should yield š but instead types 3.

Thanks!

[Bug 1716201] [NEW] gnome software continuously takes more memory

2017-09-10 Thread fcole90
Public bug reported:

After opening gnome software, it starts taking more and more memory in
big chunks, around 80MB per second. While I'm writing this report it has
already taken 3.1GB of memory. As time passes it also asks more CPU,
taking sometimes up to 33% on my machine.

Reproduce:
- kill any instance of gnome software
- open gnome software
- watch it eat all your memory

This doesn't happen every time. When it happened to me I had just killed
gnome software because it was taking a lot of CPU.

[Bug 1710487] Re: evince silently crashes with apparmor error on artful

2017-09-10 Thread intrigeri
FWIW: Jamie, while reviewing the Debian..Ubuntu packaging log in order
to merge the Ubuntu one into the Debian source package, I see a few
instances of duplicate packaging work going on (e.g. the fix for this
bug, upstart job removal). Such duplicate work could have been avoided
by merging from Debian first… which would also have avoided mistakes
like keeping the obsolete ubuntu-manpage-updates.patch, and removing the
initscript by mistake to re-add it 3 versions later.

Let me know if I can adjust my workflow in a way that makes it easier
for you folks to merge from Debian more consistently, I'm open to
requests & suggestions :)

[Bug 1553183] Re: libdapl2: PCI RoCe IB dapltest does not recognize updated names of /etc/dat.conf entries

2017-09-10 Thread Frank Heimes
Hi Helmut, looks like you re-tested on 16.04.
Not sure if you can see Launchpad comment #5 in IBM's Bugzilla system:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dapl/+bug/1553183/comments/5
It describes that the fixes landed in Zesty / 17.04 only, due to the massive
updates/modifications that were required.

(And btw. 16.04.1 is obsolete anyway, doing a normal update will bring
you to 16.04.3 these days ...)

[Bug 1716258] [NEW] Keyboard input temporarily ignored when typing root encryption password

2017-09-10 Thread Douglas H. Silva
Public bug reported:

Symptoms:

The computer begins its boot process, then the root decryption password
prompt appears (via Plymouth) and I start typing. The first letters are
caught, but some letters are not captured. It's as if the keyboard shut
down during a few seconds and then returned, and I could type the whole
password properly.

Things I tried:

- Typing the password blindly (just inputting the entire password and hitting
Enter without worrying about missing characters) but it rejected the password
as incorrect.
- Typing decryption password without Plymouth (this is not a Plymouth bug).

This affects Debian 9 (didn't affect Debian 8), Fedora, Arch Linux and possibly
others. It cannot be reproduced with Ubuntu or other distributions with old
packages. Some component introduced this problem recently.

[Bug 1716255] [NEW] nautilus crash opening directory with a spefic svg

2017-09-10 Thread Peter Pan
Public bug reported:

when I open a folder which contains the attached SVG-File, nautilus
crashes. also gthumb crashes, if i try to open the file with gthumb and
also firefox crashes, if i try to attach this file and navigate to the
folder containing this file...

the file was initially created with inkscape and i tried to remove as
much as possible from the svg-xml-markup so that the problem is still
reproducable.

i think it has something todo with the thumbnail-generation for the SVG ?

[Bug 1552241] Re: libvirt-bin apparmor settings for usb host device

2017-09-10 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Hello, Christian!

I tested this issue again today and find that half of my problem was in
/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu add that was overwritten by
package update. So I applied both workarounds once again:

Workaround 1:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM/Managing#Adding_USB_Device_Pass-through
Workaround 2: from bug description.

However, this does not help:
error: Failed to start domain usbtesting
error: внутренняя ошибка: qemu unexpectedly closed the monitor:
2017-09-10T16:49:42.791870Z qemu-system-x86_64: -chardev pty,id=charserial0:
char device redirected to /dev/pts/13 (label charserial0)
libusb: error [_get_usbfs_fd] libusb couldn't open USB device
/dev/bus/usb/002/002: Permission denied
libusb: error [_get_usbfs_fd] libusb requires write access to USB device nodes.
2017-09-10T16:49:42.856467Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device
usb-host,hostbus=2,hostaddr=2,id=hostdev0,bus=usb.0,port=4: failed to open host

So looks like in my case real issue is bug 1686324

for this?

[Bug 1716261] [NEW] Wired connection doesn't work after suspend.

2017-09-10 Thread Jose Mourinho

And output of lspci -k | grep -iA3 ethernet (I don't know what does this
command show but I have come across this command when I was looking for
the answer in google) command:

02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411
PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 02)
Subsystem: ASRock Incorporation Motherboard (one of many)
Kernel driver in use: r8169
Kernel modules: r8169`

Edit on Sep 9 2017, Sat: I tried to install r8168 driver from realtek's
site. First, I followed the manual instructions in this site:
https://unixblogger.com/2016/08/11/how-to-get-your-realtek-
rtl8111rtl8168-working-updated-guide/

I tried to install dependencies by entering the code into terminal:

sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r)

and then I downloaded the driver from Realtek's site:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1=13=5=5=4=3=false#2

I downloaded the version which states Linux driver for kernel up to 4.7.
I don't exactly if that is the case, if that one is causing me the
problems.

Then I blacklisted my already installed and working r8169 driver by this
code:

user@linux:~$ sudo sh -c 'echo blacklist r8169 >>
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf'

Then I untarred the archive by this code: tar xfvj
0009-r8168-8.044.02.tar.bz2

which showed me the following output:

r8168-8.044.02/

r8168-8.044.02/src/rtl_eeprom.c
r8168-8.044.02/src/rtl_eeprom.h

After that I got into that folder r8168-8.044.02/ and compiled the
script autorun.sh sudo ./autorun.shwhich showed me the following output
on terminal:

Check old driver and unload it.
rmmod r8169

Completed.

Then I run this code: lsmod | grep r8168 which output: r8168
499712 0

Then I run sudo ethtool -i enp2s0.

After that I suspended my PC and reopened it back, but it had the same
problem, it did not connect to Wired connection after suspension. I had
reboot it to get working Ethernet connection. After rebooting I tried to
install it automatically rather than manually, so I edited
/etc/apt/sources.list, I changed xenial main restricted to xenial main
restricted universe. Then I sudo apt-get update, then I sudo apt-get
install r8168-dkms. However, those things also did not help, when I
suspended my PC. So, I had to reboot again to get internet connection.

After rebooting I followed some of the instructions in this site:
https://nosemaj.org/hardy-r8168.

I run:

sudo bash

then rmmod r8169 which output rmmod: ERROR: Module r8169 is not
currently loaded.

then make clean which output:

make -C src/ clean

2017-09-10 Thread Miles Bennett-Murphy
Public bug reported:

Lubuntu seems to crash on my computer (a Lenovo Ideapad 510 running with
an Intel Core i5 CPU 7th Gen and a NVIDIA GEFORCE graphics card) on a
regular basis. Just started using Linux yesterday, so there is quite a
high chance I'm doing something wrong. I am encountering issues like
this while using the terminal, and the problems seems to excacerbate
when I try to run installation commands or try to update programs. I
have heard Ubuntu is buggy, especially with a NVIDIA Graphics Card, but
I never would've thought it'd be this buggy and difficult to use.
Perhaps it's time to switch to Debian or Mint?

[Bug 1352322] Re: gdebi FTBFS when the locale is not en_US

2017-09-10 Thread Vlad Orlov
[Impact]

It's impossible to build gdebi from source with the locale other
than en_US in Trusty.

It had been fixed in gdebi 0.9.5.5, which is available in newer
releases, starting from Vivid. The backported fix can be applied
in Trusty.

The debdiff which is attached to this report contains the fix.

[Test Case]

Steps to reproduce:

1. Have some non-en_US locale currently set in your system.
   I have ru_RU for example.
2. sudo apt-get install dpkg-dev devscripts build-essential
3. sudo apt-get build-dep gdebi
4. apt-get source gdebi
5. cd gdebi-0.9.5.3ubuntu2
6. debuild -us -uc

The build process will fail as shown in the first log attached
to this report.

[Regression Potential]

The patch only affects a test which is launched during the build,
it doesn't affect runtime at all. The test is passed successfully
with the patch. All the tests are independent from each other, so
the patch can't introduce any regressions to other tests.

[Bug 1582878] Re: panel-6-indicat uses 25% CPU

2017-09-10 Thread TBeholder
If non-essential processes load CPU, you can just drop their priority and let
them.
Here's my shell script from the time more XFCE plugins were voracious - save
this where you can find it, make sure the file is executable, then add "/leash_cpuhogs.sh" in Application Autostart tab in Session and Startup -
those seem to run after enforced session applications proper, so unless there
are more slowing bugs, it will work (otherwise "sleep 10" line at the start
should do the trick).
To see what exactly is done just uncomment diagnostics and start it from
terminal.

#!/bin/sh
NEWPRIORITY=8
HOGNAMES="libindicator"
# it's a regexp, so add more as "(libindicator|libcpugraph|whatever)"

# ps xao %p%a | grep -iP $HOGNAMES | grep -v "logout" | grep -v "grep"
HOGLIST=`ps xao %p%a | grep -iP $HOGNAMES | grep -v "logout" | grep -v "grep" |
grep -o "^\s*[0-9]*"`
echo "$HOGLIST" | while read thisproc
do
# echo deprioritizing $thisproc
renice -n $NEWPRIORITY -p $thisproc
done

[Bug 1716229] [NEW] Please transition gtk-nodoka-engine to multiarch

2017-09-10 Thread Sergio Callegari
Public bug reported:

Amd64 and i386 versions of this package conflict, when they should not.

This is because they install libraries in the wrong location. For
instance, gtk2-engines-nodoka installs in

/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/

The 64bit version of the engine should use

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/

The 32bit version of the engine should use

/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/

As an example, see how the gtk-engines-oxygen, that is properly
multiarch manages this.

[Bug 1651970] Re: gscan2pdf only scans one page

2017-09-10 Thread Jeffrey Ratcliffe
The problem is caused by your backend not having a standard name for the
"document source" option. The standard name is "source". Yours uses
"doc-source". Therefore, because gscan2pdf doesn't recognise you are
using an ADF, it assumes you are using a flatbed, and only allows you to
scan 1 page.

In Edit/Preferences, you should find a check box "allow batch scanning
from flatbed". Ticking this should work around your problem.

[Bug 902128] Re: Please transition gtk engines to multiarch

2017-09-10 Thread Sergio Callegari
On zesty the issue is still present.

A minority of the engines have transitioned to proper multiarch support
(e.g., oxygen-gtk). Most of them seem to still have conflicting amd64
and i386 packages (e.g., aurora). Some have the .so file implemented the
engine in legacy places (nodoka).
