[Bug 1755301] [NEW] tp-smapi 0.41-1 can't load by Kernel 4.4.0-116

2018-03-12 Thread stk76
Public bug reported:

I recognized the last days that tp-smapi 0.41-1 can't load by Kernel
4.4.0-116, while with all 4.4.0-xxx-Kernels before it gives no problems.
TLP (for example) says that tp-smapi can't load by kernel and is
"inactive".

I tried different tips from forums and compiled the actual tp-smapi 0.42
too - but all with the same effect: tp-smapi(-dkms) is able to install
und is compiled right, modules are found by "modinfo" but the modul is
not loading with Kernel during startup!

Tried to load it with terminal command but there is coming a warning
about an exec-format-error.

So if i install and compile tp-smapi with older 4.4.0-xxx-Kernels, there
is no error message and the tp-smapi-module is loaded and active.

tested on:
-
Ubuntu 14.04, Linux Mint 17.3, MATE, 64bit, Kernel 4.4.0-116 (LTS)
-

Could it be an incompability with the newest Spectre/Meltdown-Patches in
Kernel(s)?

I heard about a lot of work and changes because of this.

So i hope tp-smapi (or the Kernel) could be fixed and running stable
with next Kernel-or tp-smapi-upgrade.

Thank's for caring!

[Bug 1303649] Re: systemd-logind spins in cgmanager_ping_sync()

2018-03-12 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
Thanks Dale and Marcelo for your quick report - this is really useful.
The problem seem to be caused due to cgmanager being added as dependency
of systemd in -proposed - this request was clearly explained in LP
#1750013 (not a dup for this, it's another issue with systemd-logind).

During my test I didn't observe such bad behavior of high CPU
utilization - might be some interaction I didn't explore/reproduce. Can
you check please if you're using -backports repo ? If so, then the
cgmanager version installed in your system was 0.39 (the default
version, without -backports repo, is 0.24).

Anyway, the systemd package with cgmanager as dependency was _removed_
from -proposed, so as next step I'll focus in fixing the other LP
without adding cgmanager, and eventually investigate what bad
interaction happened in your case to address it.

Thanks,

Guilherme

[Bug 1755310] [NEW] MIR libzstd

2018-03-12 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

[Availability]

 * In Universe, on all supported arches, since xenial

[Rationale]

 * In use by btrfs-progs[-udeb] in main
 * To be used by apt & dpkg
 * Already in use by the kernel for initramfs compression, however that is
using in-kernel implementation

[Security]

 * https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=zstd -> none
 * Hardenening flags is available
 * There are some compiler warnings

[Quality assurance]

 * Maintained in debian med team
 * xnox has upload rights, and fixed up for it to be Multi-arch sane
 * testsuite is enabled and passing
 * lacks autopkgtests, could be added to run the test-suite

[Dependencies]

 * Currently has only glibc as depedency
 * Command line tool can be compiled with gzip (already eanbled), xz/lzma/lz4
(not enabled), thus making the zstd util to cover all cases of
compress/decompress/cat/less for any of these algos.

[Standards compliance]

 * Complies with debian packaging guidelines
 * Currently does not build reproducibly

[Maintenance]

 * Med, D-I teams in Debian, and foundations in Ubuntu

[Background information]

 * A new compression algorithm from facebook, which is comparable to
gzip, yet faster / less resource intensive than xz.

Serge,

I am not seeing anything like this with 16.04.4. Since I did a full
wipe and reinstall, I didn't expect to. Yes, I definitely saw it with
14.04.5 with "proposed" enabled. And the packages Marcelo indicated
were among the most recently installed. I think you can treat his

[Bug 1755285] [NEW] gpg 2 --list-keys output format incompatible with parsing

2018-03-12 Thread David Britton
Public bug reported:

Versions:
- keychain: 2.8.2-0.1
- gnupg 2.2.4-1ubuntu1

$ keychain --agents gpg B269215B

 * keychain 2.8.2 ~ http://www.funtoo.org
 * Starting gpg-agent...
 * Warning: can't find B269215B; skipping

If you run `gpg --list-secret-keys` on the version of gnupg in bionic
you can see the problem. The output now prefers a multi-line listing for
the key ids, before it was 2048R/B269215B (for example).

Inspecting the source, it's coming down to line 1088 (in ubuntu/debian
version 2.8.2-0.1).

pm_gpgsecrets="`gpg --list-secret-keys 2>/dev/null | cut -d/ -f2 |
cut -d' ' -f1 | xargs`"

Which needs a:

--keyid-format short

in the command to be compatible with the simple cut parsing of '-d/'

After this addition, the keychain program behaves as normal.
