Ok, will do so. We will keep the 2.12 type as-is in code, but it might change (if it changes upstream - unlikely). [Bug 1761674] [NEW] [Ubuntu 16.04] kernel: fix rwlock implementation
Public bug reported: Description: kernel: fix rwlock implementation Symptom: Kernel hangs, due to deadlock on an rwlock. Problem: With upstream commit 94232a4332de ("s390/rwlock: improve writer fairness") rwlock writer fairness was supposed to be implemented. If a writer tries to take an rwlock it sets unconditionally the writer bit within the lock word and waits until all readers have released the lock. This however can lead to a deadlock since rwlocks can be taken recursively by readers. If e.g. CPU 0 holds the lock as a reader, and CPU 1 wants to write-lock the lock, then CPU 1 sets the writer bit and afterwards busy waits for CPU 0 to release the lock. If now CPU 0 tries to read-lock the lock again (recursively) it will also busy wait until CPU 1 removes the writer bit, which will never happen, since it waits for the first reader on CPU 0 to release the lock. Solution: Revert the rwlock writer fairness semantics again. ** Affects: ubuntu-z-systems Importance: High Assignee: Canonical Kernel Team (canonical-kernel-team) Status: Triaged ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Skipper Bug Screeners (skipper-screen-team) Status: New ** Tags: architecture-s39064 bugnameltc-166421 severity-high targetmilestone-inin16041 ** Tags added: architecture-s39064 bugnameltc-166421 severity-high targetmilestone-inin16041 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1761674 Title: [Ubuntu 16.04] kernel: fix rwlock implementation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-z-systems/+bug/1761674/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1757072] Re: new session brings: "The panel encountered a problem while loading "BriskMenuFactory::BriskMenu".
The problem is still there in my system. Is there anything I can provide to get it solved? The fact that you cannot reproduce it does not mean that the problem does not exist at all... In the error dialog I get asked "Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?". When I press one of the buttons ("Don't Delete" or "Delete") nothing happens. The workaround to change the layout does not work anymore. I have to logout and login again. [Bug 1761693] Re: Wifi realtek 8822be BUG
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1761693/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1737536] Re: Webcams not working on a Dell Latitude 5285 laptop
A detailed answer to this problem is provided here: https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-media/msg131388.html In summary, these "complex" webcams need drivers both in kernel space and user space, and it will take some time before they are supported under linux. [Bug 1709603] Re: apt {upgrade, install, source} require an update call first
Alternate: - a `-u`/`--update` option that unconditionally performs an apt update as an option to apt itself, since every subcommand except `update` and `edit-sources` can potentially benefit from an `update` beforehand. For `edit-sources`, have it update after instead of before, and for `update`, the option can be a NOP. I'd love to be able to do something like: apt full-upgrade --autoremove --update I can do `apt full-upgrade --autoremove` now, removing obsolete packages and upgrading in one shot. It'd be glorious to include the package lists update in that operation too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1709603 Title: apt {upgrade, install, source} require an update call first To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1709603/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
