[Bug 1799310] Re: No warning when upgrading OS will turn off Livepatch

2019-01-18 Thread Brian Murray
The location in the code where the dialog was added is a part of the
dist-upgrader tarball which is downloaded during the release upgrade
process. Subsequently this does not need fixing in 18.04, rather in
18.10+ as those are where the tarballs from.

I understand this is annoying and unexpected when doing an upgrade. Yet
this is behaving as implemented. The upgrader should have warned you
that it was going to remove a number of packages, with an option to view
the list of packages to be removed. Did it not do that?

[Bug 1811719] Re: sfd

2019-01-18 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Bug 1811471] Re: local resolver stub fails to handle multiple TCP dns queries

2019-01-18 Thread Dan Streetman

>
> https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/93158c77bc69fde7cf5cff733617631c1e566fe8

that's one way to work around it, although glibc is not necessarily the
only thing that might do pipelined TCP dns lookups to the local stub
resolver (though I have no examples of anything else that does). It
certainly should fix/workaround this for Ubuntu installs using the
default systemd-resolved setup and only having issues with getaddrinfo()
failures.

I still plan to fix systemd's stub resolver to correctly respond to
pipelined TCP dns queries.

2019-01-18 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1768291] Re: lirc is flooding the syslog with two lines each second

2019-01-18 Thread Chris
This problem also affects me. I am running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with MythTV, and I
sometimes plug in a remote control USB. When it's not plugged in, LIRC spams
the syslog. I tried to disable startup of lircd daemon but that didn't seem to
work.
   sudo systemctl disable lircd.service
   sudo systemctl disable lircd.socket
and this appeared to set the links in /etc/rc2.d to be "K*lircd (kill) ) but
the glob spamming still occurred after the next reboot.

2019-01-18 Thread Que
Not sure about the proposed workaround, because I don't know what would
happen to the encrypted /home when we purge cryptsetup. Instead, I've
done the following sequence:

Remove swap line from /etc/fstab
Remove swap line from /etc/crypttab
sudo update-initramfs -u
sudo update-grub

(The answer that I've taken the last 2 commands from:

[Bug 1772677] Re: gnome-shell filling up syslog with thousands of entries with stack traces ending in osdWindow.js (lines 206/207 in bionic, lines 223/224 in cosmic)

2019-01-18 Thread lol nope
I'm experiencing this same issue as well. Syslog grew to >100GB
overnight.

My configuration:
- Fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04.1
- HP z800 workstation with 2x Xeon X5680
- NVidia GTX 1070 Ti w/ 3 screens attached

I need to stick with LTS releases but if there is a way to install a
particular version of gnome-shell with the bug addressed I'd be happy to
give it a try.

2019-01-18 Thread Dario Menin
Hi, the problem happened again: i turned on the laptop and left it on
the gdm login screen for a while, so the screen went black (all this
with the lid closed, the laptop is connected to an external monitor and
keyboard + mouse). I woke up the screen moving the mouse cursor and i
typed in username and password, the login screen disappeared and the
laptop went in suspend mode. I had to open the lid to continue using it.

[Bug 1311990] Re: Switching keyboard layouts from some non-English to Japanese (Anthy, Mozc) does not work on 14.04

2019-01-18 Thread Atti
This bug is still present in 18.04. Probably it's not related to Anthy because
it's reproducible with ibus-mozc.
if i change layouts EN->JP, then Japanese input works correctly.
if i change layouts RU->JP, then all the letters are Russian, but all numbers
and symbols are Japanese.

[Bug 1788058]

2019-01-18 Thread Frankzz
Created attachment 8251
Fix context menu not opening after shift/ctrl key by connecting correct
key-release-event (bug #14621, #14743, #14999)

The bug 14743 and the bug 14999 are different manifestations of this
bug.

To sum it up: whenever the shift or the control key is pressed or
released the context menu will not pop up anymore until catfish is
closed and reopened. So even entering a capital letter in the search
edit field or multi-selection in the result list is sufficient to
reproduce the bug.

The problem appears to have been introduced in catfish 1.4.1
commit 2829d07 Fix click issues in treeview (LP: #1547807, #1523164)

The reason for the bug is that the key-release-event is connected to the
key-press handler instead of the key-release handler. Catfish uses this
to maintain a list of currently pressed modifier keys and does not allow
any custom click actions if shift or control key is in this list. The
bug prevents catfish from ever removing any recorded keys.

The FIX is simple. On an installed system just execute this line:

sudo sed -e 's/"key-release-event"
handler="on_catfish_window_key_press_event"/"key-release-event"
handler="on_catfish_window_key_release_event"/' -i
/usr/share/catfish/ui/CatfishWindow.ui

This has been tested on xubuntu 18.04, the first LTS that includes a
catfish version that exhibits this problem.

The proper git patch is attached.

2019-01-18 Thread Seth Forshee
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

   4.19.16 upstream stable release

drm/amdgpu: Don't ignore rc from drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr_resume()
drm/i915: Unwind failure on pinning the gen7 ppgtt
drm/fb-helper: Partially bring back workaround for bugs of SDL 1.2
drm/fb_helper: Allow leaking fbdev smem_start
drm/amd/display: Fix MST dp_blank REG_WAIT timeout
PCI: dwc: Move interrupt acking into the proper callback

better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Bug 1812428] [NEW] [linux-azure] Don't wait in hvnd_query_gid after interface is already bound to ND

2019-01-18 Thread Joseph Salisbury via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

The user mode may call hvnd_query_gid multiple times, and from multiple
user contexts at the same time. If it's already bound, return GID and do
not wait.

This patch will not go upstream, because it's for Azure ND Infiniband.
Due to this, the patch should be applied as SAUCE.

The patch is needed in linux-azure for 16.04 and 18.04. It is also
being requested in the 4.18 azure based kernel.

The patch is attached to this email. Do you want and SRU request sent
to the mailing list as well or is just attaching it here suffice?

[Bug 1812419] Re: lock screen shows gnome side panel

2019-01-18 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1812419/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1812057] Re: Upgrade Lost Firefox ESR

2019-01-18 Thread Ubuntu User
Obviously this has nothing to do with PPAs. This has to do with the
system wiping out all the installed programs and forcing manual re-
installations.

In this specific case, Ubuntu also damaged the linkages between programs
and their data. This is most bizarre because one would have thought
that the upgrade process would do no such thing and the strong promotion
to do the upgrade would imply to most people that their productivity
would be protected.
