[Bug 1865371] Re: Mouse Cursor or Touchpad indicator/pointer not working
I noticed something like this on my desktop system after upgrading. It only seems to affect Wayland sessions (i.e. GDM login screen and Ubuntu on Wayland). The mouse still works (i.e. desktop responds to clicks), but no cursor is drawn. Everything seems fine on my laptop though. The main differences between the two systems are: 1. Radeon graphics on the desktop vs. Intel on the laptop 2. dual monitors on the desktop 3. The desktop is using a "Thinkpad Compact USB Keyboard" as the mouse (i.e. single USB device exposing two HID interfaces). [Bug 1862706] Re: segfaults, dpkg script failures
Hello Colin, I'm not sure: - I'm now on 5.4.0-17-generic to try to debug a different issue - I believe I've fixed all the datasets that were failing to mount at boot time due to unexpected files or directories in the mountpoints - I don't know why zfs was segfaulting in the first place: it was my guess that it was handling the unmountable datasets very poorly, but that's a big guess. (A simple test of this now doesn't segfault.) I'm not confident that this been fixed; however, it's probably worth ignoring this issue for the time being. (and please just ignore the rest of my comment) If however you initiated this bug report, unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 1866765] [NEW] disable BLISS for known side-channel attack
Public bug reported: While enabling NTRU (that was ok) I thought I should also enable BLISS which is for the same post-quantum use cases. See bug 1863749. But I got an info from upstream there: Tobias Brunner (tobias-strongswan) wrote on 2020-03-05: #14 Enabling the bliss Plugin is probably not such a good idea. There is a potential local side-channel attack on strongSwan's BLISS implementation (https://eprint.iacr.org/2017/505). The ntru plugin should be fine. However, using NTRU with IKEv2 is not standardized (uses an algorithm identifiers from the private use range etc.). Multiple IKEv2 protocol extensions are currently being developed, for instance, additional exchanges to use fragmentation during the key exchange or using multiple and more generic key exchanges, in particular, post-quantum key encapsulation mechanisms (KEM, of which most have quite large public keys). The latter (plus signature algorithms) are currently being standardized by NIST (https://csrc.nist.gov/projects/post-quantum-cryptography/post-quantum- cryptography-standardization) and versions of NTRU are among the contenders in round 2 (https://csrc.nist.gov/projects/post-quantum- cryptography/round-2-submissions). BLISS is not, but CRYSTALS-DILITHIUM is designed by the same people. It might be a while until strongSwan supports the protocol extensions (there is a branch with a partial implementation) and especially the new algorithms (we currently use the liboqs library in said branch, https://github.com/open-quantum- safe/liboqs/). --- Based on that lets drop BLISS again and keep just NTRU. ** Affects: strongswan (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1866765 Title: disable BLISS for known side-channel attack To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/strongswan/+bug/1866765/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1866716] Re: With USB adapter 0e8f:3013 only one SNES gamepad works
I did what you suggested. The events are not generated. I see the same behavior I had seen with jstest: with only one gamepad, it works. With two gamepads, only one works, and the other generates events only for "EV_KEY / BTN_THUMB2" when I depress B/yellow. On the "broken" gamepad while holding B/Yellow depressed, it alsow generates events for BTN_TOP when I depress Y/green. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1866716 Title: With USB adapter 0e8f:3013 only one SNES gamepad works To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1866716/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1866764] Re: Kubuntu 18.04.04 terminal doenst have shortcut ctrl+alt+t
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I booted a QA-test install of Kubuntu 18.04.4 (i386) and I wasn't able to use ctrl+alt+T there. (I believe this was the last RC before release, I didn't think to grab the RC date before I shutdown sorry) I also booted an RC image [amd64] of Kubuntu 18.04.4 used in QA-testing (dated 20200126) and didn't have ctrl+alt+T work there either. I'll provide the following in case it's useful (support wise) https://docs.kde.org/trunk5/en/applications/fundamentals/shortcuts.html https://docs.kde.org/trunk5/en/kde-workspace/kcontrol/khotkeys/khotkeys.pdf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1866764 Title: Kubuntu 18.04.04 terminal doenst have shortcut ctrl+alt+t To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-meta/+bug/1866764/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1861936] Re: Raspberry Pi 3 network dies shortly after a burst of IPv6 tunnel network load ((lan78xx): transmit queue 0 timed out)
** Description changed: - Raspberry Pi 3 network dies shortly after a burst of SD card IO (writes) and network load. Happened a few times (every time) when I tried to download a gparted zip release (~350 MiB) directly to the SD card, and then finally when I tried to scp the finished download from a desktop onto RPi's card. - Didn't collect information when it happened, but kept a copy of kern.log. Here's the relevant part: + Desciption changed: + Raspberry Pi 3 network partially dies (transmission doesn't work, reception still does) shortly after a burst of network load over IPv6, when IPv6 connectivity is provided by a tunnel from tunnelbroker.net. The triggering load is typically an HTTP(S) download, and replication can be done without actually saving the file (wget -O /dev/null ...). [Bug 1861936] Re: Raspberry Pi 3 network dies shortly after a burst of SD card IO and network load ((lan78xx): transmit queue 0 timed out)
Well, I only managed to replicate it on Ubuntu, and it requires many conditions to be met: - 6in4 tunnel to HE.net - ipv6 rules applied - ipv6 forwarding enabled Removing/replacing any one of these made downloading (wget -O /dev/null) reliable for at least 3 repeats of a large (~1GB+) downloads. I recreated the setup on Raspbian, and so far haven't had the issue. ** Summary changed: - Raspberry Pi 3 network dies shortly after a burst of SD card IO and network load ((lan78xx): transmit queue 0 timed out) + Raspberry Pi 3 network dies shortly after a burst of IPv6 tunnel network load ((lan78xx): transmit queue 0 timed out) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1861936 Title: Raspberry Pi 3 network dies shortly after a burst of IPv6 tunnel network load ((lan78xx): transmit queue 0 timed out) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-raspi2/+bug/1861936/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1847361] Re: Upgrade of qemu binaries causes running instances not able to dynamically load modules
Related Merge Proposals: - qemu: https://code.launchpad.net/~paelzer/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+git/qemu/+merge/380467 - libvirt: https://code.launchpad.net/~paelzer/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+git/libvirt/+merge/380469 I have already mailed Ubuntu-security on this in the past and now added a review slot for them on the MPs to feel safe for the "load .so from other place". I think it is as safe as the normal apth in /usr/lib/... but they are the experts to decide. Finally I have converted this (in the description) to also be an FFe and subscribed ubuntu-release to check and ack on it. ** Description changed: + [Feature Freeze Exception] + + Hi, + this is IMHO a just a bugfix. But since it involves some bigger changes I wanted to be on the safe side and get an ack by the release Team. + + Problem: + - on upgrade qemu processes are left running as they + represent a guest VM + - later trying to add features e.g. ceph disk hot-add will + need to load .so files e.g. from qemu-block-extra package + - those modules can on ly be loaded from the same build, but those are + gone after upgrade + + Solution: + - If qemu fails to load from its usual paths it will + now also look in /var/run/http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/daily arch=amd64 label=daily release=bionic $ uvt-kvm create --password ubuntu lateload arch=amd64 release=bionic label=daily cat > curldisk.xml << EOF EOF # Here up or downgrade the installed packages, even a minor # version or a rebuild of the same version $ virsh attach-device lateload curldisk.xml Reported issue happens on attach: root@b:~# virsh attach-device lateload cdrom-curl.xml error: Failed to attach device from cdrom-curl.xml error: internal error: unable to execute QEMU command 'device_add': Property 'virtio-blk-device.drive' can't find value 'drive-virtio-disk2' In the log we can see: Failed to initialize module: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qemu/block-curl.so Note: only modules from the same build can be loaded. --- solution options (WIP) --- For a packaging solution we would need: - qemu-block-extra / qemu-system-gui binary packages would need sort of a -$buildid in the name. That could be the version string (sanitized for package name) - /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qemu/*.so would need a -$buildid - loading of modules from qemu would need to consider $buildid when creating module names. util/module.c in module_load_one / module_load_file It already searches in multiple dirs, maybe it could insert the $buildid there - We'd need a way of detecting running versions of qemu binaries and only make them uninstallable once the binaries are all gone. I have not seen something like that in apt yet (kernel is easy in comparison as only one can be loaded at a time). ALTERNATIVES: - disable loadable module support - add an option to load all modules in advance (unlikely to be liked upstream) and not desirable for many setups using qemu (especially not as default) - add an option to load a module (e.g via QMP/HMP) which would allow an admin to decide doing so for the few setups that benefit. - that could down the road then even get a libvirt interface for easier consumption Heads up - None of the above would be SRUable --- mitigation options --- - live migrate for upgrades - prohibited by SR-IOV usage - Tech to get SR-IOV migratable is coming (e.g. via net_failover, bonding in DPDK, ...) - load the modules you need in advance - Note: lacking an explicit "load module" command makes this slightly odd for now - but using iscsi or ceph is never spontaneous, a deployment has or hasn't the setup to use those - Create a single small read-only node and attach this to each guest, that will load the driver and render you immune to the issue. While more clunky, this isn't so much different than how it would be with an explicit "load module" command. - Actually the target doesn't have to exist it can fail to attach - and still achieves what is needed comment #17 has an example. + Actually the target doesn't have to exist it can fail to attach + and still achieves what is needed comment #17 has an example. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1847361 Title: Upgrade of qemu binaries causes running instances not able to dynamically load modules To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1847361/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
