[Bug 1888380] Re: Give better experience of migration of deb to snap

2020-08-11 Thread Merlijn Sebrechts
Note: this message is only shown when Chromium is actually migrated, not
when a user installs the `chromium-browser` package manually. Given that
this was the way to install chromium in previous released, many users do
this without reading the description of the package.

These users are also surprised that the snap is installed. It might be
useful to show the message to everyone who installed chromium using the
apt package.

I can confirm that after installing the package `alsa-tools`, then the
following command will restore sound on headphones instantaneously:

sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x1a SET_PIN_WIDGET_CONTROL 0x5

In the meantime I did try a newer kernel, linux-
headers-5.7.0-050700_5.7.0-050700.202006082127, but without success.
I'll give 5.8.1 a try too...

2020-08-11 Thread PowerKiKi
linux-headers-5.8.1-050801_5.8.1-050801.202008111432 and booting with
secure boot disabled will not anything. Still no sound, and the command
workaround still works.

On a side note, the built-in mic does work as expected. So I use
bluetooth headphones for listening and built-in mic for speaking.

PS: John, did you find a way to get the keyboard backlight working ? and
are you running on intel or nvidia gpu (in my case nvidia gpu will
always freeze the whole computer after ~10-30 minutes of desktop usage)
?

It appears you have one or two modified/broken packages installed.
Please:

1. Use 'ppa-purge' to remove any PPAs from your machine.

2. Reboot.

3. If the problem still happens then run:

   dpkg -l > allpackages.txt

[Bug 1835660] Re: initramfs unpacking failed

2020-08-11 Thread danindenver
Been seeing this since new install of Linux Mint 20 (2 weeks ago)
(Have not noticed on a LM19.3 upgrade on a different machine)

I have been finding several small bugs and wondered if this may have
something to do with any of them.

I just tried the above fix.

I no longer see the error on boot up, but according to dmesg, my boot
time has increased by approximately 0.85 seconds.

No clue, yet, whether any other processes have been affected.

[Bug 1890956] Re: [Gateway NE722] Mouse and keyboard stop working after suspend

2020-08-11 Thread Trevor Schauls
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Description: Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
  Release: 20.04
  dm3:
    Installed: 3.34.1-1ubuntu1
    Candidate: 3.34.1-1ubuntu1
    Version table:
   *** 3.34.1-1ubuntu1 500
  500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Booting off of a live usb, the trackpad, external mouse, and internal
keyboard stop responding to input after suspend. On my updated install,
the laptop trackpad works, but the other two inputs do not after
suspend/wake. I can log in using the on screen keyboard. Unplugging the
mouse and plugging it in does not fix it. The inputs don't respond while
logged in either. Only a reboot fixes it.

[Bug 1837974] Re: Toggle-maximize-vertically/horiz fully maximzes (REGRESSION)

2020-08-11 Thread Fred Drake
For the record, I'm running Xorg.

Are there any diagnostics we can run to determine if these are the same?

This is a long-standing bug. While it may seem insignificant, it does
impact daily workflow for those of us who find maximize-vertically to be
useful.

  How to reproduce:

  1. set apt-http-proxy for deb package downloads

  $ juju model-config apt-http-proxy
  http://squid-deb-proxy.lxd:8000/

  2. block outgoing connections to port 80 and 443 to simulate the air-
  gapped env

- $ cat ./userdata.yaml
+ $ cat ./userdata.yaml
  cloudinit-userdata: |
- preruncmd:
- - iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --destination-port 80 -j REJECT --reject-with

  $ juju model-config ./userdata.yaml

  3. deploy the charm with the pre-downloaded charm and pre-downloaded
resources (note: core.snap is core18.snap required by the etcd
  3.3/stable snap).

  juju deploy -n 1 --resource core=./resources/etcd/core.snap --resource
  etcd=./resources/etcd/etcd.snap --resource
  snapshot=./resources/etcd/snapshot.gz ./charms/etcd

I tried the kde neon live cd yesterday, and it worked as expected there.
Could it be a nautilus issue since it seems to work fine with dolphin ?

[Bug 1859873] Re: Reapply "usb: handle warm-reset port requests on hub resume"

2020-08-11 Thread Matthew Ruffell
The customer that suffered the perceived regression enabled -proposed
and installed the 4.15.0-113-generic kernel to their Bionic test
machine.

This test machine has had its non-spec complaint USB cable replaced with
a fresh known good USB compliant cable.

The 4.15.0-113-generic kernel performed as expected. There were no long
delays on boot, and no messages in dmesg about warm resets or bad
cables.

>From our perspective, the reapplication of the commit looks good, and
does not cause regressions in this environment. Marking as verified.

[Bug 1890956] Re: [Gateway NE722] Mouse and keyboard stop working after suspend

2020-08-11 Thread Trevor Schauls
I tried suspend with the latest kernel (5.8) and the input freeze still
happened. Suspend works on the Windows 10 partition. I could boot up a
different distro's live usb or install a different desktop manager and
see if the problem is with the kernel or something higher up.

[Bug 1881888] Re: Atheros AR3012 Bluetooth Bluetooth [04ca:300b] Always Disconnected After Suspend

2020-08-11 Thread Bagas Sanjaya
The bug isn't reproduced on v5.8 mainline kernel.

However, sometimes when I clicked suspend, and if the login/lockscreen
prompt displayed instead and I logged in, the system suspended, and when
I clicked the mouse to unsuspend, the desktop unlocked immediately
without logging in and the bluetooth bug still occured.

(In reply to kaz from comment #16)
> If you're not going to make it work, the least you could do is not fake the
> appearance, you know? Would it be difficult to pop up a dialog box or
> something?

I'm sympathetic to where you're coming from, but this bug is filed
against the platform code and is about implementing the missing
functionality in the platform code. Platform developers do not make
decisions about adding/changing frontend UI such as opening dialog
boxes, so you would need to file a new bug against the 'Firefox'
component to get that attention.

As for the rest of the discussion, from my perspective as a platform dev
it adds a lot of text that we have to read through to check we're not
missing anything once we get around to trying to fix this bug. The more
bugs we have with conversations like that, the more unproductive time is
used up reading through comments that don't help inform the development
work involved. You're all welcome to comment, but please do keep that in
mind and try to keep unnecessary comments to a minimum.

This is handled by CSS. In order to not have links highlighted, there
would need to be a CSS rule specified as @media print, either in the
webpage CSS or in the default stylesheet.

Given that nearly all web pages have hyperlinks, I think that would look
somewhat ridiculous, and annoy a user who is creating PDFs of several
webpages. Furthermore, I'm not sure if it's possible to detect if the
user has selected 'Save as PDF' under macOS, or is using a PDF printer
driver under any OS.

When using a PDF export feature within an application, yes. But this
bug ticket is about the scenario that all the application is doing is
printing.

But PDF isn't paper, it's a purgatory between electronic and print
media.

Sure, someone might decide to take a PDF and ink it onto a physical
page, but *until then* the expectation is that hyperlinks will work.
LaTeX is primarily used for creating physically printed documents, but
even it has packages for [hyperlinking](https://ctan.org/pkg/hyperref).

I disagree. To "strip hyperlinks of their functionality while retaining
their styling", as you put it, is equally what happens when printing to
paper. So some web page authors might set such CSS to counteract this
behaviour.

> Maybe the save-to-PDF feature should pull a piece of CSS from behind
the magic curtain, and apply it to de-style the links that it has no
intention of making work.

This is somewhat off-topic for this bug report, which is about what
happens when one uses the built-in feature of macOS to generate a PDF
from the print dialog. Bug 162659 would be a better place to discuss
this.

> I'm pretty sure this entire bug is not about using a "PDF driver under
any OS" but saving a PDF from Firefox to a file.

It's about what happens under the Save as PDF functionality built into
macOS as part of its printing provision. Firefox doesn't have the
latter functionality at the moment. It's requested in bug 162659.

Well, let's see. It's not going to be handled in the web page CSS, is
it.

Because the web page author doesn't care that you're using Firefox to
save the page as PDF, and that it happens to strip hyperlinks of their
functionality while retaining their styling.

Maybe the save-to-PDF feature should pull a piece of CSS from behind the
magic curtain, and apply it to de-style the links that it has no
intention of making work.

It was not my intent to design the exact UI in my comment, and still
isn't; but can we pretend I had included the obligatory "[ ] don't
show me this dialog again".

> Furthermore, I'm not sure if it's possible to detect if the user has
selected 'Save as PDF' under macOS, or is using a PDF printer driver
under any OS.

I'm pretty sure this entire bug is not about using a "PDF driver under
any OS" but saving a PDF from Firefox to a file.

[Bug 1065126]

2020-08-11 Thread Smayer97
I do not understand why this bug has taken this long to get resolved. At
least one scenario is that FF simply opens the dialogue box giving the
option to choose what software to open the attachment but the "Do this
Automatically for files like this from now on" is selected. How hard is
it to have FF respect this option if it is selected and NOT present the
dialogue box? Seems like a simple logic to implement.

[Bug 1170230] Re: Transmission launcher isn't translated

2020-08-11 Thread Joachim R.
transmission-gtk is now translated in Franch, but with some errors.
For example, in the property window of a download, go in "pairs" thumbs. If you
see one with a question mark, overring it will show "Nous n'étranglons plus ce
pair, mais il n'est pas intéressé". This means "We do not strangle this peer
anymore, but he is not interested" (!)

You upgraded your 'mutter' package to 3.36.4 but not your 'libmutter'
