[Bug 1928360] Re: Switch to Fcitx 5 for Chinese

2021-06-08 Thread James Henstridge
> Is there such a snap you could point me to so I can test?

The candidate channel of the gedit snap is built with core20 and the
gnome-3-38-2004 platform snap. But as I said, I don't think that
platform snap currently includes the fcitx5 input module.

[Bug 205254] Re: python-policyd-spf failing on AOL SPF records.

2021-06-08 Thread Kevin Kelker
We are experiencing a "Temporary DNS error: DNS Ran off end of data"
error with some SPF queries even with python3-spf 2.0.12t-3 on Ubuntu
18.4.1 LTS (see
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pyspf/+question/697438).

The affected domains seem to have in common, that a dig query fails in
UDP but is successful in TCP fallback (or directly using +tcp). Any
hints would be highly appreciated!

Right.

$ ls
/snap/gnome-3-38-2004/current/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-3.0/3.0.0/immodules
| grep fcitx
im-fcitx.so

So then let's consider that a separate matter to be addressed later.

2021-06-08 Thread Domizio Demichelis
Couldn't we just use 1.6 to do the same now? I read that 1.6 worked for
who got it compiled/installed in some way.

The sof-firmware is missing/buggy since 20.10, so everybody with a 2020
DELL XPS/Precision laptop has not being able to get any input/output
audio since months already.

Is there a way to get it installed manually now?

[Bug 1931213] [NEW] fwupd installs without shim if secure boot is disabled

2021-06-08 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
fwupd currently configures the boot entry without shim if secure boot is
disabled, leading to different code paths being taken on non-secureboot
systems, and fwupd being broken if you intercept the reboot and turn on secure
boot.

This makes verifying changes harder.

[Test plan]
Run fwupdmgr reinstall or similar on a system without secure boot and ensure
that shim is present in the boot entry created. Check old version to ensure it
was broken before

[Where problems could occur]
shim in hirsute+ currently is unable to load fwupd, and it's not the first time
this has happened. We need to get better at this, it's not clear how this
happened, but maybe this is precisely where testing that bit went wrong?

[Bug 1931213] Re: fwupd installs without shim if secure boot is disabled

2021-06-08 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Preferably I'd see fwupd to be booted by grub instead. It should create
a flag file and then grub should have an if that finds the file and then
displays a menu entry for chainloader to fwupd.

[Bug 1925985] Re: CVE-2021-22204

2021-06-08 Thread Hugo Buddelmeijer
The status of this bug says "Fix Released". How can one install this
released fix on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (Focal Fossa)?

The publicly available proof of concept arbitrary code execution on
hackerone [1] works as-is on the latest exiftool (11.88-1) in the focal
repositories. This makes it a security risk to run exiftool.

"The sof-firmware is missing/buggy since 20.10, so everybody with a 2020
DELL XPS/Precision laptop has not being able to get any input/output
audio since months already".

Do you have bug link for those issues? I doubt it is not the sof-
firmware's problem, maybe they are soundwire audio machines, need to
upgrade the kernel.

BTW, the sof-firmware in the ubuntu linux-firmware is also from sof-bin
v1.6.

[Bug 1930754] Re: e1000e extremly slow

2021-06-08 Thread hendrik
To whom is may concern. I found the workaround for this.

The trick is to set the boot kernel parameter "pcie_aspm=off" in
'/etc/default/grub'

Like this:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="splash pcie_aspm=off"

After that run;

update-grub

pcie_aspm is some sort of power management thingie which probably puts my
networkcontroller to sleep or something.
And putting a usb memory stick in the laptop some how wakes it up.

check that we are booting on UEFI in the first place"?

I am lost :(

It might also be the compositor/WM causing leaks in Xorg. Certainly
'metacity' is second in your list, but it is meant to use a lot of
memory because it has to keep copies of all windows. To check to see if
it's the cause you would need to log into a different desktop
environment that's not Flashback.

[Bug 1931225] [NEW] 0.9.15 is FTFBS on ppc64el and s390x

2021-06-08 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Public bug reported:

Hi,
as seen in
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/536144995/buildlog_ubuntu-impish-ppc64el.xrdp_0.9.15-1_BUILDING.txt.gz
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/536175263/buildlog_ubuntu-impish-s390x.xrdp_0.9.15-1_BUILDING.txt.gz

This currently fails to build on ppc64el and s390x.

Upstream explcitly checks supported architectures now and only with the more
recent 0.9.16 version
it got that support.

s390x:
https://github.com/neutrinolabs/xrdp/commit/1d1ec9614f84243e4a08256f82994278d082b592
ppc64el:
https://github.com/neutrinolabs/xrdp/commit/3b81df3f9e894dd164f86d8cf87c3a171ced6d08

IMHO we can just wait for 0.9.16, but this bug provides the start of any action
if someone disagrees.
Further via update-excuse it makes it easily discovered from there avoiding to
re-debugg it.

[Bug 1715435] Re: Can't lock screen when using lightdm with gnome-shell

I managed to fix it in the following way:

1. Install dconf-editor (to edit the "registry keys")
sudo apt install dconf-editor

2. Open dconf-editor as a normal app; search for:
/org/gnome/desktop/lockdown/

3. In my case, the disable-lock-screen was set turned on. I turned it

2021-06-08 Thread James Page
jaraco.classes:

[Summary]
Looks OK from my perspective for promotion to main and no security review
needed.

+1 from MIR team.

[Duplication]
OK:
- There is no other package in main providing the same functionality.

[Dependencies]
OK:
- All covered on this MIR bug.

[Embedded sources and static linking]
OK:
- no embedded source present
- no static linking

[Security]
OK:
- no history of CVE's (http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=jaraco)
- does not run a daemon as root
- does not use webkit1,2
- does not use lib*v8 directly
- does not parse data formats
- does not open a port
- does not process arbitrary web content
- does not use centralized online accounts
- does not integrate arbitrary javascript into the desktop
- does not deal with system authentication (eg, pam), etc)

[Common blockers]
OK:
- does not FTBFS currently
- does have a test suite that runs at build time
  - test suite fails will fail the build upon error.
- does have a test suite that runs as autopkgtest
- The package has a team bug subscriber
- no translation present, but none needed for this case
- no new python2 dependency
- Python package that is using dh_python

[Packaging red flags]
OK:
- Ubuntu does not carry a delta
- symbols tracking not applicable for this kind of code.
- d/watch is present and looks ok
- Upstream update history is good
- Relatively new package so no update history
- the current release is packaged
- promoting this does not seem to cause issues for MOTUs that so far
  maintained the package
- no massive Lintian warnings
- d/rules is rather clean
- Does not have Built-Using

[Upstream red flags]
OK:
- no Errors/warnings during the build
- no incautious use of malloc/sprintf (as far as I can check it)
- no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH
- no use of user nobody
- no use of setuid
- no important open bugs (crashers, etc) in Debian or Ubuntu or Upstream
- no dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-*
- not part of the UI for extra checks

OK:
- does not FTBFS currently
- does have a test suite that runs at build time
  - test suite fails will fail the build upon error.
- does have a test suite that runs as autopkgtest
- The package has a team bug subscriber
- no translation present, but none needed for this case
- no new python2 dependency
- Python package that is using dh_python

[Packaging red flags]
OK:
- Ubuntu does not carry a delta
- symbols tracking not applicable for this kind of code.
- d/watch is present and looks ok
- Upstream update history is good
- Relatively new package so no update history
- the current release is packaged
- promoting this does not seem to cause issues for MOTUs that so far
  maintained the package
- no massive Lintian warnings
- d/rules is rather clean
- Does not have Built-Using

[Upstream red flags]
OK:
- no Errors/warnings during the build
- no incautious use of malloc/sprintf (as far as I can check it)
- no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH
- no use of user nobody
- no use of setuid
- no important open bugs (crashers, etc) in Debian or Ubuntu or Upstream
- no dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-*
- not part of the UI for extra checks

[Bug 1930409] Re: Pulseaudio 14.2 says: GetManagedObjects() failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. ...

2021-06-08 Thread rud
OK I can confirm:
1. The crash has nothing to do with this error message.
2. This error message is easy to reproduce as it happens on a clean install on
a Fujitsu D3644-B mobo with Intel C246 chipset and Realtek ALC671 audiochip. No
wifi or bluetooth.

offtopic:
regarding the crash, it is /var/crash/usr_lib_xorg_Xorg.0.crash on Ubuntu
Budgie 21.04, BTRFS filesystem, clean install on a Lenovo S540 13-ARE Ryzen
4800u laptop. I tried option 1 (ubuntu-bug), I get a popup and hit send. Popup
is gone, nothing is shown in terminal. Option 2 unfortunately does not show
anything recent has been sent in. I still have the crash file.
I did the clean install with USB boot stick 3 times, each time I have the
crash, same crash file, same issue not being able to send the bug in. There is
an upload file being created in /var/crash but it is 0 bytes.

[Bug 1930304] Re: Horizontal scroll over dock causes it to crash and disappear, and a temporary GUI freeze

2021-06-08 Thread Jani Uusitalo
Do you want another log for that? Because (as I already mentioned
above), this also reproduces when using a newly-created user, so that
means no unsupported extensions.

[Bug 1931229] [NEW] 0.7 is FTFBS on s390x in Impish (segfault)

2021-06-08 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I've found this to fail to build in update-excuses.
It turns out that on s390x it actually builds fine, but the following
self-tests that are executed make konclude run into a segfault.

Example failing log:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/542007740/buildlog_ubuntu-impish-s390x.konclude_0.7.0+1137~dfsg-1_BUILDING.txt.gz

it seems that in this code
Source/Reasoner/Triples/CRedlandStoredTriplesIndexingBaseBatchLinkerVectorData.cpp:
                        template

CRedlandStoredTriplesIndexingBaseBatchLinkerVectorData*
CRedlandStoredTriplesIndexingBaseBatchLinkerVectorData::addBatchLinker(T*
linker) {
                                if (linker) {
                                        mBatchLinker =
linker->append(mBatchLinker);
                                }
                                if (!mLastBatchLinker && mBatchLinker) {
                                        mLastBatchLinker =
mBatchLinker->getLastListLink();
                                }
                                return this;
                        }

Somehow mBatchLinker gets corrupted.

Repro after building the code (e.g. via debuild):
$ Release/Konclude sparqlfile --verbose -s
Tests/lubm-univ-bench-sparql-load-and-query-test.sparql -o

[Bug 1931229] Re: 0.7 is FTFBS on s390x in Impish (segfault)

2021-06-08 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
FYI for some reasons this worked in Debian
https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=konclude&arch=s390x&ver=0.7.0%2B1137%7Edfsg-1&stamp=1618864031&raw=0

So it could (unproven theory) be due to the different default compiler
version?

[Bug 1930111] Re: [MIR] new dependencies of cherrypy3: jaraco.collections, jaraco.classes, jaraco.text, python-cheroot, python-jaraco.functools, python-tempora, python-portend, zc.lockfile

2021-06-08 Thread James Page
python-cheroot:

[Summary]
This package provides a pure Python HTTP server implementation which is
used as part of CherryPy - as a result it needs a full security review.

The test suite for this package is currently skipped due to missing
dependencies - as this feels like a critical part of CherryPy I'd like
to see this deficiency resolved prior to promotion to Ubuntu main.

[Duplication]
OK:
- There is no other package in main providing the same functionality.

[Dependencies]
OK:
- All covered on this MIR bug.

[Embedded sources and static linking]
OK:
- no embedded source present
- no static linking

[Security]
OK:
- no history of CVE's (http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=jaraco)
- does not run a daemon as root
- does not use webkit1,2
- does not use lib*v8 directly
- does not parse data formats
- does not open a port
- does not process arbitrary web content
- does not use centralized online accounts
- does not integrate arbitrary javascript into the desktop
- does not deal with system authentication (eg, pam), etc)

[Common blockers]
OK:
- does not FTBFS currently
- does have a test suite that runs as autopkgtest
- The package has a team bug subscriber
- no translation present, but none needed for this case
- no new python2 dependency
- Python package that is using dh_python

Blockers:
- test suite present but currently skipped in packaging.

[Packaging red flags]
OK:
- Ubuntu does not carry a delta
- symbols tracking not applicable for this kind of code.
- d/watch is present and looks ok
- Upstream update history is good
- Relatively new package so no update history
- current release less one patch release is currently packaged.
- promoting this does not seem to cause issues for MOTUs that so far
  maintained the package
- no massive Lintian warnings
- d/rules is rather clean
- Does not have Built-Using

[Upstream red flags]
OK:
- no Errors/warnings during the build
- no incautious use of malloc/sprintf (as far as I can check it)
- no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH
- no use of user nobody
- no use of setuid
- no important open bugs (crashers, etc) in Debian or Ubuntu or Upstream
- no dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-*
- not part of the UI for extra checks

[Bug 1928434] Re: shim-signed does not boot on EFI 2.40 by Apple

2021-06-08 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Doug, I'm not sure how you get confused, or why you spam the bug tracker
with ASCII art like this.

This = "vendor is apple OR can't read vendor" - the statement which
caused the issue and which you blamed Python for for unknown reasons -
was intentional, as I said. We explicitly discussed that and said that
if the vendor is not readable, we should not upgrade either - it might
be Apple after all.

What went wrong is that the code check was also applied to non-UEFI
systems.

[Bug 1664844] Re: No distinction between link-up and link-down interfaces

2021-06-08 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Okay, I think I see an issue that I'm investigating right now, this
might be a verification-failed actually. We might need to cherry-pick
something more than just the selected patchset.

I have observed that if you set ActivationPolicy to a mode that doesn't
default to bringing the interface up on boot (like 'manual', 'down' or
'always-down'), systemd will wait indefinitely for the given interface
to become online on reboot. This only happens for the SRUs, impish seems
to be fine - which means that we might be missing a later change to make
sure there is no wait in this case.

[Bug 1930742] Re: cloud images in xenial do not get their boot path updated because we don't call grub-install --force-extra-removable

2021-06-08 Thread Julian Andres Klode
To be clear: This means the test case was wrong, as it was possible to
construct systems where this worked before such as canonistack, but
clearly there are also systems where the relocation becomes an issue at
grub-install time.

I personally never tested on AWS (I have credentials somewhere, I think,
used some in 2018), only Canonistack, but I'm reasonably certain that
dannf did see the same relocation issue in 44.1 as well.

build was not including the right driver for that to work correctly. The
issue was already fixed in 3.38 but we backported the change to 3.34
now, you should be able to verify by doing

[Bug 1925238] Re: [nvidia-prime] switches between xorg and wayland session

2021-06-08 Thread Alberto Milone
I think we need better detection code upstream, since the NVIDIA 470
driver will have full Wayland (and accelerated XWayland) support, and
the udev rule should take this into account.

[Bug 1930887] Re: [snap] Thunderbird 78.11 does not play new email sound

2021-06-08 Thread Francois Thirioux
I can confirm it works (TB 78.11 snap, Debian 11) with default sound.
I can select a custom sound and it works too (displayed location:
file:///run/user/1000/[etc.]).

Great, thanks!

[Bug 1928434] Re: shim-signed does not boot on EFI 2.40 by Apple

2021-06-08 Thread jorge santos
I have Ubuntu MATE 20.10 running on my Raspberry Pi 4 and I can't
upgrade because of this bug as well.

I went to the file "DistUpgradeQuirks.py" (as mentioned above) and I
can't see any "apple" string there to change and force the upgrade. I'm
just stuck.

[Bug 1928434] Re: shim-signed does not boot on EFI 2.40 by Apple

2021-06-08 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Please note that this bug is about the shim itself. Disabling upgrades
is tracked in bug 1929449 which was obviously fixed, causing the
regression of sorts and that regression is tracked in bug 1931112. The
update for that regression is in the process of being released.

[Bug 1931240] [NEW] Intel ADL-S graphics feature enabling

2021-06-08 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Public bug reported:

[SRU Justfication]

[Impact]

While all other ADL-S i915 commits have been included in v5.13-rc1, the
last one missed the train is to add two more PCI IDs.

[Fix]

Commit 3f50033dd88a ("drm/i915/adl_s: ADL-S platform Update PCI ids for
Mobile BGA") that is currently in drm-intel, branch for-linux-next.

[Test Case]

With this patch, i915 kernel module should be automatically probed.

[Where problems could occur]

While this is part of the initial support for i915 on ADL-S platforms,
the hardware to be enabled could still be unstable and feature laking.
But since this patch only addes two additional PCI IDs to the new
family, it should not introduce any regression to the exsiting ones.

[Other Info]

ADL-S support targets kernel version 5.13, so only unstable and oem-5.13
will be nominated for this fix.

[Bug 1931242] [NEW] linux-uc20-efi: make it easy to build derivative kernel.efi

2021-06-08 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

linux-uc20-efi: make it easy to build derivative kernel.efi

Currently debian/rules & debian.uc20-efi/control.stub are tightly
coupled and hardcode the source package name (linux-uc20-efi), its
relationship to linux-unsigned-image-* packages, and flavours to build
kernel.efi apps for.

Decouple those things a little bit, to make it easier to build
derivative kernel.efi apps.

1) do not calculate KERNEL_SOURCE variable at all, as it is not needed
2) calculate flavours to build kernel.efi for, from build-deps

This allows to create a derivative linux-blah-uc20-efi, and simply
adjust debian.blah-uc20-efi/control.stub and produce correct signing
tarballs for the correct required derivative flavour.

I don't have a "Unifying receiver". That's just the name which appears
and/or disappears when I plug in the KVM to the PC. The KVM in all cases
is directly connected to the keyboard/mouse/screen at one end, and USB
ports/HDMI at the PC end.
