[Bug 1950428] [NEW] Extra frozen / stuck mouse cursor after screen lock / sleep without fractional scaling

2021-11-10 Thread Mr.Gosh
Public bug reported:

After a screenlock the appears a second, fixed or frozen, non-moveable
mousecursor that vanishes after reboot.

I have no fractional scaling active (as this seems to force the problem
for others)

[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled

2021-11-10 Thread Marco De Felice
Hi Adnrea,

I tried to boot with your kernel, but could'nt because it was not
finding zfs modules and asked me to load zfs modules manually. I don't
know zfs enough to do what is being asked, but I do have a zfs encripted
filesystem so I cannot boot without zfs.

(btw dpkg -i *.deb with your deb files reports that linux-
headers-5.13.0-22-generic depends on linux-headers-5.13.0-22 and is left
unconfigured)

[Bug 1950174] Re: [SRU] focal: gallium: Reset {d, r}Priv in dri_unbind_context

2021-11-10 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
** Description changed:

  [Description]
This is a request to backport this fix from mesa 21.1 to focal-updates which
is affecting users of WSL:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/commit/7ff30a0499bd872d77b0f377414bbc03463b9f87

This cached stale pointer is causing various chromium applications
(Edge, Chrome, Visual Studio Code, etc…) to hang on resize when vGPU is
enabled in WSLg. We’re getting incredibly unlucky because a glx drawable
is being freed and reallocated with exactly the same heap pointers
during a resize, which is causing Mesa to think the new drawable is
already fully initialized when binded to the context, but it is not true
and only because the new drawable is matching the old stale pointer for
the previously freed drawable… and as a result the context remain
invalid and the app is unable to present.

With the push of WDDMv3 drivers which expose vGPU in WSL, the number of
users hitting this issue is increasing.

  [Test Case]
+ 1. Verify that hardware acceleration is enable either with glxinfo -B or in
edge with edge://gpu
+ 2. Install and launch chrome, edge or vscode
+ 3. Resize the windows repeatedly
+
+ Verification:
+ The app must not crash or hang.

[Bug 1950433] Re: Enabling service results in error

2021-11-10 Thread Htbaa
Looks to me the cause of the error is the inclusion of a newline (\n) in
the machineId. But how did it get there and how to change it?

I was also affected by this. From journalctl it looked driver-related.
Updated drivers, logged in and out seemed to fix it.

Will update if it happens again.

  [Test Case]
+ On Windows 11 with WSLg and Ubuntu 20.04
+
  1. Verify that hardware acceleration is enable either with glxinfo -B or in
edge with edge://gpu
  2. Install and launch chrome, edge or vscode
  3. Resize the windows repeatedly

  Verification:
The app must not crash or hang.

[Bug 1945852] Re: [Dell Vostro 3500] sound strange noise - pulseaudio

2021-11-10 Thread bleekm
The error can be partially resolved by installing oem kernel versions.
The error was not present on the newest one available from the
repository (for example, linux-image-5.14.0-1007-oem). The sound was
good most of the time, but sometimes it faded out, then you had to
connect the headphones to the jack socket for a while and disconnect it.
However, there was no need to kill pulseaudio (it was possible to use a
laptop on a daily basis). However, I replaced the laptop with a
different model so as not to degenerate because the problem was 90%
solved on the new kernel. This chipset 'Cirrus Logic' is probably to
blame because I have a new dell vostro 5502 with the same intel i5 (11th
gen) processor, but the chipset has 'Realtek ALC3204' and everything
works on it.

[Bug 1950437] [NEW] Most Gnome Desktop icons disappear, when a file on desktop is changed

2021-11-10 Thread Otto Pellinen
Public bug reported:

I've been having this bug for a while now: I have files on my desktop,
and every time I make changes to a file and save the changes, most of my
file icons on the desktop disappear. There is no clear logic to which
icons vanish and which remain. It seems to affect any file type,
including folders, but never all of them.

The issue can be mitigated by opening the Desktop from Files (nautilus),
or by refreshing the gnome-shell (+F2 -> 'r' + return).

It can be easily reproduced on my device, and it happens even after a
fresh restart.

I'm running on Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS

[Bug 1950438] [NEW] To support goodix fp device [27C6:63CC]

2021-11-10 Thread Andy Chi
Public bug reported:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libfprint/libfprint/-/commit/5e934a4fa0c25be4572925f96af44f409697f1ae

This ID is included in upstream.

[Impact]

 * Devices have goodix [27c6:63cc] fingerprint component will get
   supported.

 * This sru contains lots of fingerprint id which is not supported
before, below is the comparison with impish -updates.

 * Elan:
   #impish: 0x0c4d

   Synaptics:
#impish and focal does not have difference.

   Goodix:
   #0x609C, 0x639C, 0x63AC, 0x63BC and 0x6A94 are include in focal but not
   in impish

 * Add Synaptics fingerprint device to test in this SRU.
   VID: 06CB
   PID: 00DF

 * If user name is too short, fingerprint cannot enroll successfully
   https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libfprint/libfprint/-/issues/428

[Test Plan]

 * Find a machine with this fingerprint device

 * set a very short user name such as "u".

 * Launch `settings` and enable `Fingerprint Login`

 * Enroll finger and then logout

 * Login system with enrolled finger

[Where problems could occur]

 * A lot of fingerprint ids is supported in this version, we didn't test
   all combination.

[Bug 1950445] [NEW] Fails to strip systemd on i386

2021-11-10 Thread Lukas Märdian
Public bug reported:

systemd FTBFS on i386, due to errors from debugedit during dh_strip.

The interesting part seems to be this:
debugedit: Failed to update file: invalid section entry size
dh_strip: error: debugedit --build-id --build-id-seed=systemd/249.5-2ubuntu1
debian/systemd/usr/lib/systemd/boot/efi/linuxia32.elf.stub returned exit code 1

Reproducer:
sbuild -djammy --arch=i386
--extra-package=../ninja-build_1.10.1-1+ppa1_i386.deb systemd_249.5-2ubuntu1.dsc

The extra-package was taken from
https://launchpad.net/~slyon/+archive/ubuntu/testing/+build/22389874/+files/ninja-build_1.10.1-1+ppa1_i386.deb
in order to mitigate a different issue, that seems to happen only locally and
not on the Launchpad buildds:
dh_auto_build --builddirectory=build-deb
cd build-deb && LC_ALL=C.UTF-8 ninja -j2 -v
ninja: error: rebuilding 'build.ninja': stat(/usr/bin/realpath): Value too
large for defined data type
dh_auto_build: error: cd build-deb && LC_ALL=C.UTF-8 ninja -j2 -v returned exit
code 1

[Bug 1950201] Re: Gnugpg does not offer the option to store the private and public keys on two different keycards.

2021-11-10 Thread Hveem
** Description changed:

Gnugpg does not offer the option to store the private and public keys on
  two different keycards.

I have followed the official yubikey guide as follows,
  ( found here :
https://support.yubico.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013790259-Using-Your-YubiKey-with-OpenPGP
 )
- but it might apply to similar smart cards and USB tokens:
+  but it might apply to similar smart cards and USB tokens:

To import the key on your YubiKey:

Insert the YubiKey into the USB port if it is not already plugged
  in.

Enter the GPG command: gpg --edit-key 1234ABC (where 1234ABC is the
  key ID of your key)

  Enter the command: keytocard

When prompted if you really want to move your primary key, enter y
  (yes).

When prompted where to store the key, select 1. This will move the
signature subkey to the PGP signature slot of the YubiKey.

  Enter the command: key 1
  Enter the command: keytocard

When prompted where to store the key, select 2. This will move the
  encryption subkey to the YubiKey.

  Enter the command: key 1

  Enter the command: key 2

  Enter the command: keytocard

When prompted where to store the key, select 3. This will move the
  authentication subkey to the YubiKey.

  Enter the command: quit
When prompted to save your changes, enter y (yes). You have now saved
your keyring to your YubiKey.

The issue with that is that it permanently moves the secret keys to the
yubikey or similar, and that causes issues later if one wants to create
  backup keys.

If one saves the changes and tries to make a separate identical key card
at a later date, one gets the "gpg: KEYTOCARD failed: Unusable secret
  key." error.

I have read that if one presses control and c ( on Linux ) it after the last
keytocard and option 3, the secret keys will not be deleted from the computer,
only copied.
One then can start forward again at this step: gpg --edit-key 1234ABC (where
1234ABC is the key ID of your key). Another possible but tedious workaround is
to backup the secret keys and public keys,
and import those back into gpg, then move they keys to a physical backup key.

( Note: Key 0 is the primary signature subkey. Key 1is the encryption
subkey. key 2 is the authentication subkey .)

Ideally, there should be a option in the gpg menu about this, that asks
  about permanently moving the keys.

  A nice addition would be:

Do you want to make a separate identical key card?
+
+ A additional problem is that even if you manage to create two yubikeys
+ with the same card then you still cant use them both on the same
+ computer as a replacement for eachother.
+
+ GnuPG will remeber the card id when it moves te key and will only accept
+ the same card/yubikey again in the future.
+
+ Workaround is to delete your gnupg home folder and import clean public
+ keys that have no info which yubikey has the private keys, in that case
+ gnupg can figure out that it can actually use the other yubikey.

[Bug 1950448] [NEW] wifi stopped working on killer ax500 xps 9500 with kernel upgrade to 5.11.0-40

2021-11-10 Thread Laurenz
Public bug reported:

Hi all,

after upgrading my kernel to 5.11.0-40 my wifi card (AX500 killer wifi) is no
longer recognized on my xps 15 9500. When I boot into the old kernel, 5.11.0-38
it is still working.
I found that this issue has been reported here:

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=214455

and it could be traced back to commit:

3f38cc1ba1e289306f52cb7238406f38ecbfa21a net: qrtr: make checks in
qrtr_endpoint_post() stricter

which was also in the patchset:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1946788

for the 5.11.0-40 release. in the bugzilla link a solution was mentioned
and it generally doesn't seem too big a problem, would be awesome if
someone could look into this.

Thanks a lot!

[Bug 1947905] Re: mate-screensaver SegFault when it autostarts. Prevents system from sleeping or exiting sleep

2021-11-10 Thread Adam Funk
Now I don't think the problem is in the mate-screensaver package itself.
I reverted to version 1.24.2-0ubuntu1 for a week and still had it happen
occasionally: I'd come back to the computer to find a black screen and
no amount of typing or mouse-jiggling would bring up the unlock dialog.
I have to ssh in and use 'sudo service lightdm restart' to fix it
(losing whatever is running in the GUI).

[Bug 1943464] Re: Reassign I/O Path of ConnectX-5 Port 1 before Port 2 causes NULL dereference

2021-11-10 Thread Frank Heimes
Hi Niklas, well, I agree that this is a little bit confusing (and hit me, too).
There is a kernel meta package, and there are binary packages (e.g.
linux-generic), and both may differ slightly in their last digit (build
number), like in this case.

$ rmadison -a source linux | grep focal-proposed
 linux | 5.4.0-91.102 | focal-proposed | source
$ rmadison --arch=s390x linux-generic | grep focal-proposed
 linux-generic | 5.4.0.91.95| focal-proposed | s390x

But you can safely ignore that last/fifth digit (here '102' and '95') -
it is just important that the fourth digit is the same (here '91') - if
that's the case, it's ensured that you picked the correct kernel.

In other words: having /focal-proposed enabled, and installing linux-
generic 5.4.0.91.95 will install the kernel that needs the verification.

[Bug 1950436] Re: Linux Mint 20.2, Kernel 5.13.0-21 closing lid > screen granulation

2021-11-10 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1950436

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Please note: `ubuntu-bug`, `apport` & bug reporting tools are provided
with Ubuntu by default, many require manual addition for some releases
of downstream OSes based on Ubuntu (eg. Linux Mint). You should check
with your distribution first.

[Bug 1950448] Re: wifi stopped working on killer ax500 xps 9500 with kernel upgrade to 5.11.0-40

2021-11-10 Thread Chris Guiver
Thanks for your last comment.

It would be more useful if you ran the `apport-collect` using the last
good kernel (5.11.0-38 you mention) that worked; instead of not running
apport-collect.

You can just note it was run using a different kernel due to this issue.
Currently no architecture, release details, etc have been provided, ie.
details usually collected by apport-collect. As a result the issue risks
being missed due to missing details.

Thank you especially for providing the link to commit & reason for the
issue. That is appreciated.

[Bug 1950393] Re: GDM session crashes on suspend on Ubuntu 21.10

2021-11-10 Thread Vladislav K. Valtchev
If I grep for `systemd`, after the first meaningful message:

Nov 10 00:20:06 lenovo systemd-logind[11553]: Power key pressed.

The first error is:

Nov 10 00:20:11 lenovo systemd-logind[11553]: Error during inhibitor-
delayed operation (already returned success to client): Unit nvidia-
resume.service is masked.

And later:

Nov 10 00:20:13 lenovo /usr/libexec/gdm-x-session[12386]: (EE) systemd-
logind disappeared (stopped/restarted?)

[Bug 1950393] Re: GDM session crashes on suspend on Ubuntu 21.10

2021-11-10 Thread Vladislav K. Valtchev
Hi Daniel,
unfortunately, there are no crash files in /var/crash/. I've checked also:
https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ but there are no crashes reported
in the last month.

It looks like the "crash" is not caused by a fatal signal like SIGSEGV
and no core dump is generated.

But, still from the same log file (attached), I noticed that systemd-
logind exited with a failure:

--
Nov 10 00:20:13 lenovo upowerd[3602]: Could not acquire inhibitor lock:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message recipient disconnected
from message bus without replying

label="unconfined")

'exit-code'.
--

Later, I observe that gnome-session cannot communicate with systemd using GDBus
and ends up failling back to a "non-systemd procedure":

Could this be a systemd bug?

[Bug 1946013] Re: postgresql-13: Fail to build against OpenSSL 3.0

2021-11-10 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I have confirmed here
=> https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/4709/+packages

that 13.5 and 14.1 build fine against openssl 3.0.
The transitions might take a while, but I'd say postgresql is ready for this.

[Bug 1950393] Re: GDM session crashes on suspend on Ubuntu 21.10

2021-11-10 Thread Vladislav K. Valtchev
Interesting update

Given the "Unit nvidia-resume.service is masked" complain by systemd-
logind in my previous comment, I thought it could be related with the
switching on and off the proprietary nvidia driver: after turning it on,
I turned it off (switching to Nouveau) because of this other bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1947614

So, I opened the "Software & Updates" tool and in "Additional Drivers" I turned
nvidia-driver-470 on again and... voila', the session-crash-on-suspend bug
disappeared.

It looks like to me that the tool messed up some systemd units like
nvidia-resume.service and it didn't return them to the previous state
after I switched back to Nouveau.

Note: the only thing I used to turn on and off the nvidia driver is that
"Software & Updates" tool, no custom configurations/hacks at all.

[Bug 1950448] Re: wifi stopped working on killer ax500 xps 9500 with kernel upgrade to 5.11.0-40

2021-11-10 Thread Laurenz
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected focal

** Description changed:

  Hi all,

after upgrading my kernel to 5.11.0-40 my wifi card (AX500 killer wifi) is no
longer recognized on my xps 15 9500. When I boot into the old kernel, 5.11.0-38
it is still working.
I found that this issue has been reported here:

  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=214455

and it could be traced back to commit:

3f38cc1ba1e289306f52cb7238406f38ecbfa21a net: qrtr: make checks in
  qrtr_endpoint_post() stricter

which was also in the patchset:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1946788

for the 5.11.0-40 release. in the bugzilla link a solution was mentioned
and it generally doesn't seem too big a problem, would be awesome if
  someone could look into this.

  Thanks a lot!

[Bug 1367042] Re: asterisk-flite built with missing shared library reference

2021-11-10 Thread Athos Ribeiro
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. In an effort to keep an
up-to-date and valid list of bugs to work on, I have reviewed this report
to verify it still requires effort and occurs on an Ubuntu release in
standard support, and it does not.

The bug is fixed since xenial, and, as verified (Thank you WhyteHorse,
for the simple reproducer), does not affect bionicnor any subsequent
series.

It is unfortunate that we were unable to resolve this defect, however
there appears to be no further action possible at this time. I am
therefore moving the bug to 'Incomplete'. If you disagree or have
new information, we would be grateful if you could please add a comment
stating why and then change the status of the bug to 'New'.

[Bug 1950460] [NEW] grub doesn't load videoinfo with secure boot enabled

2021-11-10 Thread Michal Petřek
Public bug reported:

When I enter grub, whole interface is really unresponsive and rendering is
visibly slow. This is not new issue, so I was invastigating why is this
happening. When I enetered grub console after reboot and entered 'videoinfo'
command, grub answered 'Secure boot forbids loading module from
hd(...)...videoinfo.mod'.
When I disable secure boot, everything works as expected.
While I am using dual boot with windows 11, I need to keep secure boot enabled,
so the only solution from my point of view is to add videoinfo module into
'grub-efi-amd64-signed' package.

[Bug 1950461] [NEW] Installing vino does not expose the screen sharing slider in Gnome Control Center

2021-11-10 Thread Matt Dale
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 21.10 - minimal install on a fresh machine

apt install vino

Open the gnome settings dialog and go to the Sharing tab. I would expect
to see the screen sharing slider but it is not there.

Searching around I found a suggestion to use Ubunutu with Xorg but this
makes no difference.

This behaviour is also present in 21.04.

I have put gnome-control-center as the package at fault as this is
ultimately where I observe the issue but it may be that during the
install of vino makes the gnome configuration change and this step is
missed.

I have enquired on askubuntu and reddit but have not received a response
so decided to report this

gnome-control-center 1:40.0-1ubuntu5 is installed
vino 3.22.0-6ubuntu3

  [Test Case]
On Windows 11 with WSLg and Ubuntu 20.04

  1. Verify that hardware acceleration is enable either with glxinfo -B or in
edge with edge://gpu
  2. Install and launch chrome, edge or vscode
  3. Resize the windows repeatedly

  Verification:
The app must not crash or hang.

[Bug 1950283] Re: r-base: gfortran and gcc disagree on double complex

2021-11-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package r-base - 4.1.2-1ubuntu1

---
r-base (4.1.2-1ubuntu1) jammy; urgency=medium

  * Drop adding -std=gnu99, as R needs at least C11 compiler by default
and adds -std=gnu11 which then lowers the standard than what gcc
default is.
  * Turn off LTO as it missbuilds R with HAVE_FORTRAN_DOUBLE_COMPLEX not
defined. LP: #1950283
