[Bug 1880570] Re: Dock - running applications are not/delayed updated when starting with an empty dock

2021-11-27 Thread Tavin Cole
I'm seeing this issue in Ubuntu 21.10 (gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock
70~ubuntu3). Toggling the show-mounts setting makes no difference. Only
having at least one favorite "fixes" it.

[Bug 1952517] [NEW] Falsely claims it can't satisfy dependencies

2021-11-27 Thread pqwoerituytrueiwoq
Public bug reported:

The attached screenshot shows the application saying it can't satisfy
dependencies

I have been able to get this issue with deadbeak and Microsoft Edge
https://deadbeef.sourceforge.io/download.html
https://www.microsoftedgeinsider.com/en-us/download?platform=linux-deb
in the case of edge if you add the PPA then you can install via apt-get and
nothing breaks

To reproduce just download a deb file and try to install it using the GUI
$ qapt-deb-installer ~/Downloads/deadbeef-static_1.8.8-1_amd64.deb
Get sad you can't install it without breaking apt...
install it anyway using dpkg
this is odd apt is perfectly happy

Installed with dpkg:
$ sudo dpkg -i ./deadbeef-static_1.8.8-1_amd64.deb

[Bug 1952531] [NEW] samba: Access Time of File is set to far future: Access: 30828-09-14 04:48:05.477580700 +0200

2021-11-27 Thread Matthias Loose
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Release:20.04
Samba Ver: 2:4.13.14+dfsg-0ubuntu0.20.04.2

I run Ubuntu 20.04 and have several Samba shares. After the recent update from
samba 4.11 to 4.13 this new behavior was observed.

If I edit a freshly copied MP3 file (to the share) with Mp3Tag (program)
from my windows box, the file became unreadable by VLC. Copying them
back and forth or just on the share made them readable again. The Mp3Tag
Software has worked flawlessly before.

If I copy the file in question on the share itself it just works again.
They have the same checksum, so virtually the same. After some googling
I found my answer. If you stat the freshly edited file, this is what
turns up:

  File: bohemian-edit.mp3
Size: 6041182 Blocks: 11245 IO Block: 1048576 regular file
Device: 33h/51d Inode: 198862 Links: 1
Access: (0774/-rwxrwxr--) Uid: ( 1000/ twister) Gid: ( 1000/ twister)
Access: 30828-09-14 04:48:05.477580700 +0200
Modify: 2021-11-27 20:22:05.62400 +0100
Change: 2021-11-27 20:22:04.156312647 +0100
 Birth: -

After a touch, the file becomes readable again by VLC.
Theres a bug filed over at Debian, that looks to be the same issue:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=998355

Since they are talking about Samba 4.13 I checked my dpkg.log file and
low and behold some weeks ago Ubuntu 20.04 upgraded from 4.11 to 4.13.
So Im pretty convinced its Sambas fault.

What you expected to happen:
After editing a MP3 file on the share to have a valid atime.

What happened instead:
After editing a MP3 file on the share via Mp3Tag the file receives an invalid
atime, rendering it unreadable my many programs.

Any help would be appreciated.

[Bug 1952542] Re: systemd randomly crashes

2021-11-27 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1952542

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

ie. this bug report should have been filed with
`ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_lib_systemd_systemd.0.crash`
as an uploaded file added as an attachment is less useful than the fields being
populated from details from your machine which is done when apport tools are
used.

Is there any way to resolve this issue without making a full back of the
ZFS volume? I have a volume that is multiple TBs and a backup to restore
is not too simple, especially considering the corrupted files are
relatively minor jpg files.

[Bug 1952533] [NEW] [XPS 13 9370, Realtek ALC3271, Speaker, Internal] fails after a while

2021-11-27 Thread John D Sheehan
Public bug reported:

Sometimes if I run `pulseaudio -k` a few times, sound returns.
Sometimes if I run `sudo alsa force-reload`, sound returns.
Sometimes if I shutdown and start the laptop, sound returns.

This first occurred a few months ago when I was running 20.04, and I

continues to be intermittent.

v3.1.3 also supports pillow >= 7.0. This version might be more
appropriate.

Original fix.

This fix is applied to v3.1.3

[Bug 1952538] [NEW] Report a problem in Ubuntu page: Step 1: "nameofprogram" unclear

2021-11-27 Thread Zian
Public bug reported:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Experience a problem with the Software Updater.
2. Go to the "Report a problem in Ubuntu" page using the Ubuntu Desktop Guide.
3. Read step 1 ("Type Alt+F2 and type ubuntu-bug nameofprogram")
4. Type ALT+F2 and "ubuntu-bug Software Updater" and press Enter.

Expected Result:
A way to provide feedback about the Software Updater.

Actual Result:
The little dialog goes away and nothing else happens.

I will add appport.log and the output of ls -la /var/crash/ once I am
able to resolve an unrelated Virtualbox problem.

[Bug 1895943] Re: zsys automatic snapshots just eat up all drive space and never get cleaned up

2021-11-27 Thread André Stein
I can report the same just after a few month of working with ZFS. I now
get this error message I try to do an apt upgrade:

ERROR couldn't save system state: Minimum free space to take a snapshot
and preserve ZFS performance is 20%.

I am using ZFS on Ubuntu 21.10 on a private notebook that I use
_occasionally_ meaning maximum once per week without a lot of data
intensive stuff going there.

I agree with other comments that this ZFS default behaviour gives a bad
impression on an otherwise great filesystem. The idea of snapshots is a
good one but should have much saner defaults that also take into account
on how much space they take. With that experience I would never enable
ZFS with Ubuntu on a production relevant box.

[Bug 1952539] [NEW] Power Mode keeps switching back to balanced afert performance is selected manually

2021-11-27 Thread Henning Sprang
Public bug reported:

I want my computer to keep running in performance mode.
This worked well with 21.04, but since the upgrade the gnome shell applet tp
switch this has been gone, instead in the setting i can now chose between
performance / balanced and power saver.

When I chose performance, close the settings app, and start doing what I
want (make music with applications for this), I soon start to hear
latency crackles.

I go back to the settings then, and continue to see Power Mode being
switched back to Balanced.

What would I expect:

I would expect after chosing Performance explicitly, it would stay like this.
Especially as long as I dont change the power connection state of the machine
or reboot, but ideally even when these things happen.

But here, it doesn't even stay as selected even though the system is on
a power line, and no reboot. It doesn't even last one minute in the
state I chose it to be.

- Ubuntu Software got to search page, I entered "text editor" and pressed enter
and it's a white screen; and just endless looping of the center three
twirlies..

No change in ~10 mins so far.

-

this will be a duplicate error report I'm sure.

filed against snapd (wrong package) as Ubuntu Software doesn't have a
package available; and `ubuntu-bug` and selecting 'other' required me to
use PID (7523) which just gave an error that didn't fit on screen so was
unusable (I have two displays with one above the other; but error
message filled both screens and still didn't fit -- I'll upload pic to
this bug report but it won't relate here). ISO bug tracker requires
  launchpad report.

-
  I see in `dmesg`

[Bug 1938978] Re: nvidia-340 kernel module failed to build (ERROR: Kernel configuration is invalid)

2021-11-27 Thread Sumit Bhattacharyya
I was fed up with the fact that this bug was not taken care of. Therefore I've
installed Butterfly's solution as I've written in my earlier comment. This fix
works without any problem.
As far as I've seen, he also provides a driver supporting kernels up to 5.14.
For all folks affected by this bug, please take a look on
https://launchpad.net/~kelebek333/+archive/ubuntu/nvidia-legacy and follow the
instructions (I installed both packages).

[Bug 1952542] [NEW] systemd randomly crashes

2021-11-27 Thread Leo Wandersleb
Public bug reported:

When screensaver is on, I often can't wake the system back up again.
Screen comes, up, clock shows but frozen and login does nothing.

I have a file `/var/crash/_usr_lib_systemd_systemd.0.crash` from around
the incident time, so I guess it's systemd itself that's crashing.

Trying to dig into the crash report, this is how far I get:

[Bug 1899150] Re: trickle has no effect on Python 3 scripts

2021-11-27 Thread Edwin Chiu
Looks like it's missing some upstream changes, e.g.
https://github.com/mariusae/trickle/commit/bb2825a1fe938e303acd5d65508476ca03961d85

Looks like it's diverged for a long time now... This upstream commit
from 2013 is missing as well:
https://github.com/mariusae/trickle/commit/56637e748c7316741baa0bf8e2f86673aa3909c3

Did not bisect further.

If you want trickle to work on python3 and ruby, I suggest you compile
from source for now.

[Bug 1950683] Re: firejail firefox is blocking website functionality

2021-11-27 Thread Uwe Geuder
The problem is discussed in
https://github.com/netblue30/firejail/issues/4698 which in turn is
marked as a duplicate of
https://github.com/netblue30/firejail/issues/3219

The patch mentioned there solves the problem:

$ diff /etc/firejail/firefox-common.profile.orig
/etc/firejail/firefox-common.profile
49c49
< seccomp !chroot
---
> seccomp !chroot,!kcmp

Whether that's a good solution security-wise or not I cannot comment on.
Upstream recommends to upgrade firejail.

[Bug 1920190] Re: Printing to ipp printer uses multiple GB of ram. pdftoraster and/or filter chain selection at fault?

2021-11-27 Thread soumen
I am seeing the same behaviour in terms of CPU usage and time taken. A
14 page pdf took close to 4 minutes to print and all the while
pdftoraster process was utilizing 100% CPU as per "top".

I'm using Pop!_OS 21.04 - happy to provide any logs etc.

[Bug 1952155] Re: 5.13.0-21 startup failed , show white noise screen (lenovo r9000x 4800h nvidia 2060)

2021-11-27 Thread overlord_tm
Same bug, Lenovo E14 (Ryzen 7 4700U). After upgrading to kernel
5.13.0-21-generic I get white noise after boot. Graphics works during
boot (can decrypt disks) but when login screen should be shown, I get
white noise. Booting in older kernel resolves problem

[Bug 1952505] [NEW] Missing kernel source files in linux-hwe-5.x-source-5.x.0 packages

2021-11-27 Thread liuyc
Public bug reported:

I did not find the linux-source-5.4.0 package for HWE 5.4 kernel in
Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic).

Similar packages for previous kernel versions exist: linux-source-4.15.0
for kernel 4.15 and linux-source-5.3.0 for HWE kernel 5.3.

I found a package named "linux-hwe-5.4-source-5.4.0", with similar description
like previous versions, saying:
This package provides the source code for the Linux kernel version
 5.4.0.
But it does not contains the "/usr/src/linux-source-5.4.0/" tree.

$ dpkg -L linux-hwe-5.4-source-5.4.0
/.
/usr
/usr/share
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/linux-hwe-5.4-source-5.4.0
/usr/share/doc/linux-hwe-5.4-source-5.4.0/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/linux-hwe-5.4-source-5.4.0/copyright

In contrast, the package linux-source-5.4.0 in Ubuntu 20.04 (focal)
still has the "/usr/src/linux-source-5.4.0/" tree.

In addition, the linux-hwe-5.x packages (e.g., linux-
hwe-5.13-source-5.13.0) in focal have the same problem.

[Bug 1883785] Re: intermittent boot failure dell inspiron 3593

2021-11-27 Thread Krisztian VASAS
Actually i have an Inspiron 5593 with 18.04, but at some time i upgraded
the kernel to 5.4.0 instead of original 5.0. I suspect that 20.04 has
also 5.4.0 kernel, so i think the issue should be somewhere between grub
and kernel. I will try those workarounds today
