[Bug 1958625] Re: unattended gesture feature

2022-01-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. It looks like the touchscreen thinks either a
button is held down or a finger is touching the screen during the
downward cursor movement.

Please try running 'sudo evtest' in a separate window to log all the
touchscreen events, and see if you can find evidence of the kernel
thinking that is the case. If so then this should be reassigned to the
kernel (if not a hardware problem).

[Bug 1958629] [NEW] Deprecation warnings about Proc.new

2022-01-21 Thread Christian Rohmann
Public bug reported:

Upon running e.g. Puppet's r10k, which makes use of ruby-faraday
(version 0.15.4-3), a few lines of deprecation warnings are thrown on
every invocation:

# /usr/bin/r10k deploy environment -p

/usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/faraday/options.rb:166: warning: Capturing the given
block using Proc.new is deprecated; use `&block` instead
/usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/faraday/options.rb:166: warning: Capturing the given

/usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/faraday/options.rb:166: warning: Capturing the given
block using Proc.new is deprecated; use `&block` instead

Apparently this is all known and fixed upstream already, see
https://github.com/lostisland/faraday/pull/1082. Mind you that this is NOT an
upgrade per se, but 0.17.x is the same as 0.15.4 with just bugfixes (see
https://github.com/lostisland/faraday/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md#v0171). So
updating this package to use 0.17.x would fix the issues without being an
actual upgrade.

Essentially it boils down to a single patch that likely fixes this
particular issue: https://patch-
diff.githubusercontent.com/raw/lostisland/faraday/pull/1009.patch, maybe
that one could at least be applied if updating to 0.17.x is not
feasible?

[Bug 1958631] [NEW] Flickering internal monitor

2022-01-21 Thread Mohsen Pourjam
Public bug reported:

Hello everybody,

Recently my internal monitor on my laptop (HP Pavilion Gaming 15) starts
flickering after boot. On my laptop I have Geforce 1660 Ti beside AMD
Renoir. Formerly I had the problem of not detecting the external monitor
but solved it. Now this problem has arisen. I have also updated the
kernel to 5.13 recently.

I would appreciate any solution to the problem.

Thank you

[Bug 1958312] Re: Livepatch not working on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

2022-01-21 Thread Paul White 
I can't replicate your error message as everything seems to be working
normally here bearing in mind that Ubuntu 22.04 is still in its
development period. I can enable Liverpatch in "Software & Updates" but
it later turns off automatically.

Please be aware that Livepatch is not yet available for Ubuntu 22.04 as
this terminal output shows:

$ canonical-livepatch status
2022/01/21 09:42:53 error executing status: livepatchd error: The platform
Ubuntu 22.04 is not supported. exiting.

I think Livepatch will not be available for Ubuntu 22.04 until much
nearer its release date.

[Bug 1958635] [NEW] Dock + window menus unresponsive after attempting to do an area screenshot

2022-01-21 Thread Trygve Brox
Public bug reported:

Reproduced this issue several times, but it doesn't happen all the time.
After trying to take a screenshot of an area, the screenshotting may fail and
the ubuntu dock and all window menus become unresponsive. Mouseover on the dock
will change the cursor to the plus-sign used when selecting the area to
screenshot, but nothing happens if you try to click or click/drag.
Shift+Print Screen will allow you to try to click/drag and the pointer stops
becoming a plus-sign after this, but the dock and menus are still unresponsive.
Alt+F2 & r seems to resolve the issue.

[Bug 1958518] Re: split some large, lesser-used firmware files into -extra package

2022-01-21 Thread Juerg Haefliger
Why is the size problematic? And how do you define less common HW? Where
do you draw the line? Some HW might not be common for you but is for
others. I'm sympathetic to the request but it's not trivial to find the
right balance without upsetting/breaking existing users.

[Bug 1942245] Re: Option to change login screen color missing

2022-01-21 Thread Paul White 
Thank you for your suggestions. However, the changes you are requesting
aren't really a bug and require more discussion, which should be done on
an appropriate mailing list or forum.

http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/mailinglists might be a good
start for determining which mailing list to use. Posting on
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/ will also attract the attention of the
Desktop Team developers who might consider your suggestions or give
their reasons why they cannot or will not be considered.

However, please be aware that suggestions 1 and 3 might go against
Ubuntu policy and that suggestion 5 has long been available by
installing the "Tweaks" application and changing the default option
under "Window Titlebars".

[Bug 1958625] Re: unattended gesture feature

2022-01-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. It looks to me that there is a phantom touch event at the start
of the gesture. So gnome-shell is behaving correctly:

Event: time 1642755262.679902, type 1 (EV_KEY), code 330 (BTN_TOUCH),
value 1

This means it is either a kernel bug or a hardware fault relating to the
touchscreen.

[Bug 1958592] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in mieqEnqueue() from queueEventList() from QueueKeyboardEvents() from xf86PostKeyEventM() from xf86PostKeyboardEvent()

2022-01-21 Thread Lars Rune Præstmark
Possibly fixed after 20.04? I might try upgrading some day I have plenty
of time then. If I then stop getting the crashes, I could mention that
here. And if I still get them, I guess I could mention that. It's pretty
random when it happens, but I guess it should happen at least once per
month, especially if I type a lot or install certain Plover plugins
(system switcher and VLC commands).

reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago
and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial) reached end-of-life on April 29, 2021.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported when
using a currently supported version of Ubuntu? Please let us know if you
do, and give full details of the problem that you are seeing, otherwise
this report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days time.

[Bug 1958639] [NEW] Intel WiFi 6 AX210 hardware stops working

2022-01-21 Thread ThomasA
Public bug reported:

I am running Ubuntu 20.04.3:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Release:20.04

I am running Ubuntu on a Lenovo ThinkPad P14s with Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX210 Wi-Fi
interface. This used to work up to kernel 5.11.0-46 (which loaded iwlwifi
"firmware version 59.601f3a66.0 ty-a0-gf-a0-59.ucode op_mode iwlmvm").
Recently, Ubuntu auto-upgraded my kernel to first version 5.13.0-25 and then
5.13.0-27. Both of these kernel versions load iwlwifi "firmware version
63.c04f3485.0 ty-a0-gf-a0-63.ucode op_mode iwlmvm" and then my Wi-Fi interface
no longer works.
This is the error output from `dmesg` when running kernel 5.13.0-25:

2022-01-21 Thread Paul White 
We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago
and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty) reached end-of-life on April 25,2019.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported when
using a currently supported version of Ubuntu? Please let us know if you
do otherwise this report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days

[Bug 1957810] Re: impish: ddebs build take too long and times out

2022-01-21 Thread Kleber Sacilotto de Souza
This is a build time comparison between linux 5.13.0-28.31 and
5.13.0-27.29

* amd64
  - before: 3 hours, 22 minutes
  - after: 2 hours, 19 minutes
* arm64
  - before: 15 hours, 49 minutes,
  - after: 15 hours, 12 minutes
* armhf
  - before: 10 hours, 59 minutes
  - after: 9 hours, 41 minutes
* ppc64el
  - before: 1 hour, 54 minutes
  - after: 1 hour, 32 minutes
* s390x
  - before: 44 minutes
  - after: 29 minutes

For the architecture that are suffering with longer build times and
timeouts, arm64, there's only a marginal percentual improvement (less
than 4%) in the build time meaning that there are other areas for
improvements.

The build logs don't contain timestamps so we don't have the information
about how much time it was taken to build the dbgsym packages, however
with the apparent improvement of the build time for all architectures,
even though this is a too small of a data sampling for an statistical
analysis, we can consider this change to have been beneficial and
successfully verified.

[Bug 1956401] Re: amdgpu hangs for 90 seconds at a time in 5.13.0-23, but 5.13.0-22 works

2022-01-21 Thread Lukas Wiest
I'm using a Lenovo Ideapad with a Ryzen 7 4700U on Ubuntu 20.04 focal,
and with the focal kernel 5.13.0-27 I still can't suspend the device.
Last working is 5.13.0-22

The mentioned released fix for impish, is it also included in the focal
version of 5.13.0-27 or do we have to wait longer for an focal fix?

If it's already included, and as my device is working perfectly fine, other
than it won't get into suspend but hang itself on trying to, should that be
further discussed here or in the as duplicate marked bug 1956422?
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1956422

The lts-mainline kernel 5.15 is working fine, 5.16 not yet tested (jfyi)

[Bug 1958642] [NEW] New 2.37.50.20220119-0ubuntu1 Produces RWE load header on s390x

2022-01-21 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Public bug reported:

Building libxcrypt with the new binutils upload
2.37.50.20220119-0ubuntu1 in proposed produces binaries with one RWE
LOAD header instead of two LOAD headers (one RE, one RW); causing it to
fail to load in services that use MemoryDenyWriteExecute=yes, thus

[Bug 1957094] Re: on-demand mode doesn't work with nvidia-390

2022-01-21 Thread Robie Basak
Hi Jeremy,

It's not your fault. This is something your sponsor is supposed to have
checked.

@Alberto

Please could you properly review this, make sure it meets SRU policy,
try to anticipate and answer any questions the SRU team might have in
advance, and then work with Jeremy to resubmit to the queue? It's not
good enough just to sponsor and leave - for example in this case it'd
just get lost because Jeremy isn't aware that the upload needs to be
resubmitted. You need to stick with your sponsorees all the way through
until SRUs land in -updates and no regressions have been found please.

Technically this was critical while it was in proposed, I set it to high
as we removed it; but it's a blocker to fix this for a future binutils

I'll do a no-change rebuild of impish's sssd now and try with that.

2022-01-21 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Thank you Dag! Let me try looking at the provided logs and see if I can
pinpoint it better.

In the meantime, the visibility toggle has been committed for GTK + I
prepared a MP for the KDE counterpart.

[Bug 1422899] Re: package x11-common 1:7.7+1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess neues pre-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 2 zurück

Please let us know if you
do otherwise this report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days
time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.

Done, but the bug is still the same. So not some weird build-time issue.

[Bug 1958642] Re: New 2.37.50.20220119-0ubuntu1 Produces RWE load header on s390x

2022-01-21 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Further data points:

- The first build with new binutils was

s390x build of soci 4.0.1-5ubuntu1 in ubuntu jammy PROPOSED

- Investigation on Debian shows that it was not affected, and that the
bug is caused by LTO - if you enable LTO on Debian, it starts building
the broken library as well.

[Bug 1958492] Re: Keyboard layout doesn't switch to japanese when using a Japanese (109-key) keyboard and the system language is english

2022-01-21 Thread Marcel Montes
My bad, it's just "Japanese" (I didn't run the installation again just
to check the exact hardcoded text for the bug report).

My point was that the physical actual keyboard is a japanese one with 109 keys
(the usual in japanese keyboards).
The japanese layout has some keys that just plainly don't exist in other
layouts (全角/半角, 変換, 無変換,カタカナ・ひらがな, a \ to the left of the small right shift,
and a yen sign to the left of its small backspace).

Sorry for the confusion.

What I'm saying is that the layout in the OS doesn't change at all.
Note how I never said "I can't type in Japanese" in the bug report. I could if
I -like you said- changed input mode to Hiragana in mozc. But that's not how
you do it with a japanese keyboard.

With a japanese keyboard (and correct layout) you just press the 全角/半角
(zenkaku/hankaku) key which changes input mode between direct input and
the currently/last used kana mode (usually hiragana, but might be
katakana), no need to use menues.

Even if Input Mode was in Direct Input the layout should be in Japanese
regardless of being unable to type in japanese characters.

eg: If I press the key to the right of the P it should type @ like in
the Japanese keyboard, not a [, if I press shift-7 it should be a single
quote not an ampersand, etc.

Like I said, I don't know if it's even a mozc problem, and I fixed it by
explicitly setting the layout to "jp" in ibus/component/mozc.xml which
maybe points to ibus, rather than mozc itself.

One of the first things I said is that mozc probably wasn't the right
place for this bug report.

It's possible you had a bad write to your media or for some other reason
its contents could not be read correctly. If you're still having
problems you should try re-writing the image to your media (and possibly
re-download it as well).

Oh, and also please check the image I attached.

The keyboard layout program showing "?" instead of the layout name is a
clear hint that something is not right.
