Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1960895/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1888076] Re: nftables can't be statefull
Hi Elrik, Thanks for reporting your issue to Ubuntu, and apologies for the delayed response. Can you say explicitly what behavior you're expecting to have work that does not? I.E. are ssh connections to the host unsuccessful or are other outbound operations failing? Some useful diagnostics to see what's happening would be to install the conntrack package and then run: $ sudo conntrack -L -o id,extended to see what connections it's tracking. Additionally, it would probably be useful to add a log rule at the end of the input chain to see what's failing; something like: log prefix "[nftables] input denied: " flags all counter drop and then looking at dmesg output, journalctl output, or /var/log/kern.log can tell you what is getting blocked. It should be noted that Ubuntu 20.04 uses systemd-resolved as its DNS resolver and depending on whether you've adjusted your DNS settings, with the nftables configuration above, likely the problem you're seeing is that connections to the resolver listening on the loopback interface (ip addr 127.0.0.53) are being blocked; in my testing, this showed up looking like: [nftables] input denied: IN=lo OUT= MAC=00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:08: 00 SRC=127.0.0.1 DST=127.0.0.53 LEN=86 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=11108 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=45001 DPT=53 LEN=66 Given that, adding a rule like: udp dport 53 ip saddr 127.0.0.1 accept on the input chain caused outbound initiated network traffic to work. Is this what you were seeing or is there some other behavior you were expecting that did not work? Thanks. ** Changed in: nftables (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1888076 Title: nftables can't be statefull To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nftables/+bug/1888076/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1960313] Re: [snap] chromium crashes regularly
Thanks for the additional info and for the logs Chris. So Chromium was abruptly killed, and the logs don't contain any hint as to why this might have happened. I wonder whether this could be an out of memory situation, where the kernel decided to kill Chromium to free up memory. Could you inspect the output of `journalctl` around the timestamp when the crash occurred? In the DiskUsage section of the data attached by apport, I'm seeing that your /home partition is almost full (63M free out of 32GB), maybe that could explain this sort of abrupt termination if Chromium is trying to write profile or cache data to disk? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1960313 Title: [snap] chromium crashes regularly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1960313/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1960910] [NEW] Cannot connect to WPA and Open Network
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS Release:20.04 netcfg version: 1.142ubuntu8 What you expected to happen: Use oem-config debconf mode, in network configuration step, we can setup wifi network connection by choosing ESSID from ESSID list and entering WPA/WPA2 key. What happened instead: Choose an ESSID from ESSID list, then enter WPA/WPA2 key. Wait a moment, it showed the error 'Failure of key exchange and association' If I change to enter ESSID manually and WPA/WPA2 key, it can connect to the ESSID successfully. More information: I traced netcfg source code which was downloaded from http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/n/netcfg/netcfg_1.142ubuntu8.tar.xz. I saw netcfg.c has defined the state machine in main loop. Depend on different state, the network interface will be up/down. For example, config a WPA wireless network and with DHCP method, I list the state flow, and the wlan0 status after this state as below: 1. GET_INTERFACE (wlan0 down) 2. WCONFIG (no change) 3. WCONFIG_ESSID (wlan0 is up first. If choose essid from the list, wlan0 will be down; if choose enter essid manually, wlan0 will keep up) 4. WCONFIG_SECURITY_TYPE (no change) 5. WCONFIG_WPA (no change) 6. START_WPA (no change) 7. GET_METHOD (no change) 8. GET_DHCP (wlan0 up) The issue I encountered is choosing essid from the list, wlan0 will be down, so I could see the below errors in syslog during START_WPA state: Dec 2 04:37:11 localhost netcfg[8076]: INFO: buf = wpa_state=INTERFACE_DISABLED#012address=00:16:01:80:8a:47#012uuid=c9148e48-dd38-516c-80e Dec 2 04:37:51 localhost netcfg[8076]: message repeated 8 times: [ INFO: buf = wpa_state=INTERFACE_DISABLED#012address=00:16:01:80:8a:47#0] Dec 2 04:37:53 localhost wpa_supplicant[4114]: wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-FAILED ret=-100 And this causes the configuration is failed. But if I choose enter essid manually, it will be successful because wlan0 keeps up during START_WPA state. My first question is: Why not keeping the wlan0 is up for both use cases because it needs to send commands to wpa_supplicant daemon during START_WPA state? Another example is setting Open Network. I choose ‘Open Network’ and left wep key as blank. From syslog, I didn’t see the association with access point during WCONFIG_WEP state. Is this expected? It will be failed due to wlan is carrier down: Dec 2 05:22:48 localhost netcfg[6898]: DEBUG: State is now 0 Dec 2 05:22:48 localhost netcfg[6898]: DEBUG: Want link on wlan0 Dec 2 05:22:48 localhost netcfg[6898]: INFO: Waiting time set to 3 Dec 2 05:22:49 localhost netcfg[6898]: INFO: ethtool-lite: wlan0: carrier down Dec 2 05:22:50 localhost netcfg[6898]: message repeated 5 times: [ INFO: ethtool-lite: wlan0: carrier down] My second question is: Is this expected without association with access point before doing DHCPDISCOVER? ** Affects: netcfg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1960910 Title: Cannot connect to WPA and Open Network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/netcfg/+bug/1960910/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1958467] Re: focal linux-firmware package omits amdgpu/navi12 firmware
** Description changed: + [Impact] + The 20.04 LTS linux-firmware package list was cut before the amdgpu/navi12* firmware files were upstreamed to the Linux kernel repository, which is unfortunate because this hardware is older than some other included firmware (navi14*), and the firmware is required for using the AMDGPU kernel module on AWS EC2 cloud instances with AMD GPUs. The files are included in 21.04 and 21.10, but to date they have not been included in the LTS hardware-enablement releases for 20.04. It would be helpful to include the navi12 firmware files for the next LTS+HWE release, since 22.04 isn't due out for a while. Without this firmware it is difficult to get AWS EC2 G4ad instances working with Ubuntu, as customers need to manually download and install the firmware from a reputable source and put it into the appropriate directory, which is not the experience they expect on hardware that is over a year old with the most recent HWE release. + + [Test Case] + + See above. + + [Fix] + + Backport amdgpu/nav12* from linux-firmware Jammy. + + [Where Problems Could Occur] + + Graphics problems, kernel crashes on machines with AMD GPU. + + [Notes] + + This is required for the HWE kernel so not fixing Impish. ** Also affects: linux-firmware (Ubuntu Impish) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux-firmware (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Changed in: linux-firmware (Ubuntu Impish) Status: New => Won't Fix ** Description changed: [Impact] The 20.04 LTS linux-firmware package list was cut before the amdgpu/navi12* firmware files were upstreamed to the Linux kernel repository, which is unfortunate because this hardware is older than some other included firmware (navi14*), and the firmware is required for using the AMDGPU kernel module on AWS EC2 cloud instances with AMD GPUs. [Bug 1960911] [NEW] Error message does not state where it's from
Public bug reported: # Preface: I experienced this bug in update-notifier. Closing this as won't fix. We can revisit and open new bugs if specific firmware blobs are needed and can be tested by the reporter. [Bug 1960826] Re: NFSv4 performance problem with newer kernels
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected focal uec-images ** Description changed: I am seeing an issue with NFSv4 performance on Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS on both clients and server (tested kernels 5.4 to 5.16), where the server is connected by 10Gbit Ethernet and with multiple clients connected by 1Gbit. I am reading a large file from an NFS mount via "dd" sending output to /dev/null with bs=4096. Using default sysctl and mount options I am seeing speeds maxing out below 1Gbit/sec. If I force NFSv3 I see speeds close to 10Gbit/sec with sufficient clients connected. I also see no issue with Ubuntu 16.04 (when used for both server and clients) in conjunction with NFSv4. I have attached the output from two iftop's which shows the status when using NFSv4 and when using NFSv3, in the NFSv4 you can clearly see one client reading at max speed and all the others apparently throttling back to practically nothing. I have additionally tested a range of mount options, which made no difference, BBR congestion control which made no difference and the following kernel settings which also made no difference: net.core.netdev_max_backlog=25 net.core.rmem_max=4194304 net.core.wmem_max=4194304 net.core.rmem_default=4194304 net.core.wmem_default=4194304 net.core.optmem_max=4194304 net.ipv4.tcp_rmem=4096 87380 4194304 net.ipv4.tcp_wmem=4096 65536 4194304 net.ipv4.tcp_mem=786432 1048576 26777216 net.ipv4.udp_mem=1529892 2039859 3059784 net.ipv4.udp_rmem_min=16384 net.ipv4.udp_wmem_min=16384 - The problem is seen on dissimilar hardware, ie this problem exists when - testing with an HP DL380 G10 with Mellanox 10Gbit Ethernet connected to - Cisco switch, and also on a Dell R430 with Broadcom 10Gbit Ethernet - connected to a Netgear switch (just to name two of several - configurations that have been tested). [Bug 1955844] Re: Enlightenment cannot successfully start the enlightenment_system service since it can't become group root. Missing setuid bit?
It's a solution for you and for now. You only need to search. The issue itself appears from time to time since years, always only scattered (as you can see here - I have never had this problem with Lubuntu or siduction and e17/e18/e19) and in different distributions, e.g. also once in Arch. This would make it an upstream problem. Possibly the cause is how enlightenment was installed, root or sudo, tty or terminal (so with running DE). [Bug 1960916] [NEW] cryptswap overwrites existing LUKS partition
Public bug reported: This bug is related to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cryptsetup/+bug/474258 In spite of the implementation of cryptswap checking for existing filesystems, I think I have encountered a bug. cryptswap still creates the swap partition if the target partition does not contain a filesystem, but a LUKS partition. I have been able to reproduce this issue without meaning to. After adding a drive my /dev/sdX assignments shifted, and I lost a partition full of data. However, in spite of attempts to recreate the data partition, the LUKS header kept being overwritten by random data. That's when I saw this: https://imgur.com/Zl5sYbkl.png cryptswap has been overwriting the partitions. The partitions contained LUKS Encrypted ext4 filesystems created using gnome-disks. I have a specific hardware device that I use for SWAP, so in a way it was my own mistake for not updating /etc/crypttab when connecting the new drive, but in my opinion cryptswap should not destroy a LUKS partition to a point where even with header it is difficult to recover any data simply because a drive has been changed. As far as I have been able to find, cryptswap with UUID is still not possible after all. ** Affects: cryptsetup (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: dataloss -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1960916 Title: cryptswap overwrites existing LUKS partition To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cryptsetup/+bug/1960916/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
