[Bug 2063986] [NEW] no "send to..." in the nautilus context menu

2024-04-28 Thread frenchy82
Public bug reported:

hi,
In ubuntu 24.04, nautilus-sendto is included in the installation. But it has no
effect on nautilus.

In nautilus, click on a file, then right click on it and there is no
"send to..." in the context menu so there is no way to send a file to
thunderbird from nautilus as expected

[Bug 2063992] [NEW] thumbnails are not shown

2024-04-28 Thread Sergey Ivanov
Public bug reported:

I firstly reported to gnome directly to
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/loupe/-/issues/359
All details there.
But now i see that real issue that someone decides to leave 45's version of eog

On fedora on the same machine everything works fine.
Personally i don't understand how version control of packages is done in

[Bug 2063985] Re: Does not detect hotplugged storage device

2024-04-28 Thread N
** Description changed:

  I've been experiencing an issue since performing a fresh install of
  Ubuntu 24.04 LTS on launch day. While my external NTFS USB hard drive is
  visible in the Ubuntu dock upon plugging it in, trying to mount it or
  access its contents gives me an 'Unable to access "2.0 TB Volume" ...
- Error mounting /dev/sda1"' pop-up.
+ Error mounting /dev/sda1' pop-up.

  I was able to get the external hard drive to mount via Terminal with the
  help of an article (https://linovox.com/how-to-fix-failed-to-mount-
  wrong-fs-type-bad-option-bad-superblock-on-linux/). However, its files
  are only accessible by navigating to my newly created '/mnt/Media'
  folder.

  The drive is not visible in Nautilus as it usually would be, but I can
  see it in the Disks app (which is also how I unmount it).

  Also I'm not sure whether this is related, but I get an error when I
  attempt to use Steam's Restore Game Backup feature. Upon trying to
  browse for the desired backup folder (which is on the external drive), I
  get the pop-up 'The folder contents could not be displayed ... Operation
  not supported'. From here I can still navigate to and select a folder on
  the internal hard drive, but not on the external one.

  My external hard drive had been working fine with Ubuntu 22.04 a few
  hours earlier in the day, and it currently functions normally on my
  Chromebook as well. Running 'Check Filesystem' in Disks says it is
  healthy. I also tried out a couple of my other USB sticks—which happen
  to use the FAT32 and Ext4 file systems—and they mounted normally.

  The version of gvfs that I have on my system is '1.54.0-1ubuntu2'.

  Hope this helps.

[Bug 2056434] Re: Thunderbird profile not migrated to snap

2024-04-28 Thread Pablo Angulo
Thanks for your answer, Sebastien. I think you nailed it.
There was not enough free space to copy the profile and the profile was not
copied.
I had tried to softlink my old profile from .thunderbird info
snap/thunderbird/common/.thunderbird but that did not work, as I described, and
it still doesn't.

However, moving the thunderbird profile instead of softlinking did solve
the problem.

The maybe a problem, though, since some people like myself have massive
profiles with years of emails, and users are warned about the root space
they need for the upgrade, but not the space in the home directory.
Specially if several users share the computer.

Regards

[Bug 2063888] Re: 24.04 unusable after Gnome-Tweaks change to the mouse pointer

2024-04-28 Thread Ken
Thanks, aki, for the info. In the end, I did it a different way. First,
I realised my 22.04 boot issue was that a partition got reformatted
during 24.04 installation and the UUID was changed. I had to edit the
22.04 /etc/fstab file to replace the old UUID with the new so that 22.04
would boot. Once I was back in 22.04, I restored my .config dir and
logged back in to find that the change to RedGlass was working. So I ran
gnome-tweaks and changed it back to Yaru, rebooted to 24.04 and all is
fine.

Of course, will be avoiding gnome-tweaks until the fix comes through...

[Bug 2009825] Re: snap thunderbird cannot sign messages with external gnupg

2024-04-28 Thread Giovanni Rito Russo
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS now manages Thunderbird with only the snap package,
this makes it impossible to use openpgp private keys stored on tokens
like yubikey because even activating the
"mail.openpgp.allow_external_gnupg" option in the snap package it has no
effect, which instead works with thunderbird deb package. in practice it
does not recall the gnupgp keys stored in ubuntu. Is there any way to
fix this bug?

However, my kernel is 5.15.0-105-generic.

2024-04-28 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709.ReportingBugs.

The package of chromium for 24.04/noble is
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-
browser/2:1snap1-0ubuntu2 which is not what you're using. If you wish
to file a bug report on your chromium package, you'd have to file it
with whomever packaged it (PPA owner), as it's not a Ubuntu 24.04
package.

[Bug 2064030] [NEW] Byobu 6.5+ autostart broken with fish shell

2024-04-28 Thread David Mehren
Public bug reported:

Since byobu 6.5, the shell spawned by byobu-shell is started as a login
shell using -l
(https://github.com/dustinkirkland/byobu/commit/4a2ebccb627055e3605e39d300c6cf23d12939a1).
This breaks byobu autostart with fish, as the autostart code in
config.fish uses status --is-login to determine if fish runs inside
byobu already. The autostart code only executes byobu-launcher if fish
is a login shell (and interactive, but that doesn't seem relevant here).
As byobu then starts fish again as a login shell, byobu starts again,
which leads to tmux refusing to work with "sessions should be nested
with care, unset $TMUX to force" and everything quits.

I now cannot SSH into my server with byobu 6.5+ and autostart enabled,
as byobu immediately quits.

This has also been experienced by another user in
https://github.com/dustinkirkland/byobu/commit/4a2ebccb627055e3605e39d300c6cf23d12939a1#commitcomment-140698811

[Bug 2064017] [NEW] Xserver Display flickers when mouse pointer is inside narrow horizontal range band (kernel related)

2024-04-28 Thread GLAUCO RIZZO
Public bug reported:

My machine information is following :
HP EliteBook 840 G3
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Skylake GT2 [HD Graphics 520]
xrandr -q active mode on laptop display : 1368x768 60.01

Tried using 6.8.8-060808 kernel (instead of the lubuntu 24.04 default shipped
kernel 6.8.0-31), same issue.
Rolling back the kernel to 6.7 fixed the problem,maybe there were some video
driver changes from kernel 6.7 to 6.8 ?

While using the 6.8 kernel I did some experiments:

disabled picom in startup , no effect

Tried changing display resolution, just moves vertical position of band.
(at the above resolution 1368x768 vertical mouse pointer flicker range is
around 640 ( measured running watch -t -n 0.0001 xdotool getmouselocation from
a bash terminal)

Tried moving refresh rate slightly around 60 Hz by creating a new
modeline using cvt tool and adding new mode with xrandr, no effect.

tried connecting external display on laptop VGA port and duplicating
screen and the issue seems to disappear.

tried capturing a video of the desktop using ffmpeg with x11grab, but
it does not show the issue.

I attached a short video of the laptop display flicker I recorded using
my phone

[Bug 2064023] [NEW] Installer should detect small ESP in a dual boot

2024-04-28 Thread Mario Limonciello
Public bug reported:

If someone sets up Windows before Ubuntu, Windows will create an EFI
system partition that gets reused by Ubuntu.

This is generally fine, but a major problem is that the EFI system
partition is also where firmware updates are staged during a BIOS
update.

If the ESP is too small, then the update won't be able to run. The
command line fwupdmgr tool will show this type of message:

/boot/efi does not have sufficient space, required 93.2 MB, got 66.8 MB

This is a situation that should be handled at install time. If the ESP
is too small to support updates later it should be resized or a new one
created for Ubuntu to use.

[Bug 2063973] Re: network-online.target is reached before netplan-configured interfaces are online

2024-04-28 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
I think I understood this.

I have a udev rule to force the NIC name to eno1, which is not the
driver's default (it is eno1np0). I did not regenerate the initramfs, so
that rule did not propagate there.

What happens is:
- initramfs is executed. The NIC is renamed to eno1np0 (driver's default).
- systemd starts
- it runs the netplan generator
- the netplan generator sees its configuration for eno1, but does not match it
to eno1np0.
- as a consequence, it does not generate the symlink
(/run/systemd/generator/network-online.target.wants/systemd-networkd-wait-online.service)
- udev kicks in, renames the NIC to eno1, but it's too late.

That behaviour is caused by debian/patches/lp2060311/0010-wait-online-
wait-for-existing-interfaces-only-and-do.patch. Removing that patch
returns to the previous behaviour.

There are two potential workarounds:
- regenerate the initramfs, so that it knows about the new name for the
interface and names it correctly before systemd starts.
- help netplan match the real NIC with its configuration, for example
specifying the MAC address.
```
---
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: networkd
  ethernets:
eno1:
  dhcp4: true
  match:
macaddress: 98:03:9b:b0:a7:76
```

New version of gnome tweaks should be here soon, i guess they will fix it.
When you get something went wrong screen try clicking ctrl+alt+t and terminal
should open, after that type gnome-tweaks in terminal. Tweaks gui should open
and then just change everything to default and reboot.

2024-04-28 Thread Martin D. Weinberg
I did the followings steps:
- Added the noble-proposed repo
- Installed the driver(s) using: `sudo apt install
intel-ipu6-dkms/noble-proposed`
- Confirmed that the correct package was installed:
```
$ apt policy intel-ipu6-dkms
intel-ipu6-dkms:
  Installed: 0~git202404110253.97c94720-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0~git202404110253.97c94720-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 0~git202311240921.07f0612e-0ubuntu2 500
```
- Rebooted

I see no evidence that a ipu6 device was detected. E.g. nothing in
kern.log from intel-ipu6 after the new driver package installed.
Perhaps I'm I missed something important here? LMK if there's another
test I can perform.

[Bug 2063976] Re: Apparmor breaking nsjail in AOSP

2024-04-28 Thread John Johansen
running privileged applications out of home is dirty. But it is the
situation we are in with user namespaces and app images as well. Ubuntu
will not ship a profile for a privileged executable in the users home or
a writable location of an unprivileged user. As this can be leveraged to
by-pass the restriction, or it requires us to expand user mediation in
such a way that user writable locations with profiles defined become
privileged. Atm we are not adding addition restriction to the user. This
allows the user to define a profile that allows by-passing the
restriction. A user opting to create a profile in a user writable
location is less dangerous as the location becomes non-standard so it
becomes harder to exploit. It also requires the user to take a
deliberate privileged action to add the profile.

Generally for the nsjail profile an attachment like

  @{HOME}/android-*/prebuilts/build-tools/linux-x86/bin/nsjail

is slightly better, but still not great. Atm it is very close to the
same, but there are improvements coming that will tighten @{HOME} to a
user specific kernel variable which will be better than /**.

The other way to handle this would be setting the security xattr and
using that as part of the attachment.

```
  sudo setfattr -n security.apparmor -v nsjail
```

and define the profile as something like (you can make the path more
specific if you want).

```
  profile nsjail /**/nsjail xattrs=(security.apparmor="nsjail")
flags=(unconfined) {
```

[Bug 2063976] Re: Apparmor breaking nsjail in AOSP

2024-04-28 Thread Alexander Koskovich
To clarify, this is not something that can be solved upstream in
apparmor, and a profile can't be accepted due to the nature of the path
location?

I'm really trying to avoid a situation where we need to add additional
instructions after syncing AOSP just for Ubuntu users.

One idea for this was to take nsjail and package it in Debian and remove
it from AOSP prebuilts, that way a proper profile could be upstreamed
since the path would be static, but that wouldn't address all previous
versions of Android.

Google has also been trying to move all binaries required for AOSP
compile into the tree itself for more reproducible builds, so I'm not
even sure if they'd accept that.

[Bug 1876486] Re: systemd breaks due to old libsecomp libs left on the system

2024-04-28 Thread Jeremy Akers
I just ran into this same issue. I have a server that started out on
16.04. I just did "do-release-upgrade -m server" to upgrade to 18.04 and
then again to 20.04. After the 20.04 upgrade finished the server would
no longer boot with the exact same error described here:

/sbin/init: symbol lookup error: /lib/systemd/libsystemd-shared-245.so:
undefined symbol: seccomp_api_get

I do not understand why bugs like this cannot get fixed even years after
several people have reported the same issue and the repro steps are
clear: Start with 16.04 upgrade to 18.04 and then 20.04. Clearly the
upgrade tool is not properly cleaning up these files.

[Bug 2063996] [NEW] libogdi multiarch support broken in Noble

2024-04-28 Thread Even Rouault
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Nobble is currently at ogdi 4.1.1+ds-3, but Debian has just
applied in https://salsa.debian.org/debian-gis-team/ogdi-
dfsg/-/commit/bd47d6548f066cb5237d82735a2ce4b58caf595d for 4.1.1+ds-4,
that fixes an issue with a wrong path written in libogdi that prevents
it from loading its plugins, making it completely unusable (originally
reported in https://lists.debian.org/debian-gis/2024/04/msg6.html)

This fix should be applied to Ubuntu Nobble as well.

The breakage can be checked with

```
apt-get install ogdi-bin wget
wget
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ogdi/files/OGDI_Test_Suite/3.1/ogdits-3.1.0.tar.gz/download
 -O ogdits.tar.gz
tar xaf ogdits.tar.gz
ogdi_info -u "gltp:/vrf/ogdits-3.1/data/vpf/vm2alv2/texash"
```

Without the patch, this outputs:
ECSERROR: Could not find the dynamic library "vrf"

With the patch, this will output several lines starting with:
```
Projection = `+proj=longlat +datum=wgs84'
Bounds
north = 31.25
south = 31.00
east = -97.50
west = -97.75
ns_res = 0.01000
ew_res = 0.01000
```

[Bug 2060268] Re: Phantom "Unknown Display" shown in Settings after installing the Nvidia driver

2024-04-28 Thread Alexandre Hen
Same problem for me on Ubuntu 24.04 fresh install on X11.

I tried updating my nvidia driver to nvidia-driver-550, but I keep
getting this "phantom" monitor in Gnome settings.

I have two physical monitors :
- Main one : AOC 27" AG271QG with G-Sync
- Other one : Dell 25"

$ find /sys/devices -name "edid"
/sys/devices/platform/simple-framebuffer.0/drm/card0/card0-Unknown-1/edid
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:03.1/:0e:00.0/drm/card1/card1-HDMI-A-1/edid
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:03.1/:0e:00.0/drm/card1/card1-DP-2/edid
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:03.1/:0e:00.0/drm/card1/card1-Unknown-2/edid
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:03.1/:0e:00.0/drm/card1/card1-DP-3/edid
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:03.1/:0e:00.0/drm/card1/card1-DP-1/edid

[ Workaround ]
I type in terminal : sudo rm -f /dev/dri/card0

*After relogin : Phantom monitor has disappeared, but I lost my monitors'
configuration (Main becoming second and vice versa, losing refresh rate too for
the AOC).
No sign of the phantom screen in Gnome settings.

[Bug 2062082] Re: 24.04 Wayland vs Nautilus performance problem

2024-04-28 Thread Alexandre Hen
I had a lot of performance issues with nvidia-driver-535 and nautilus too
(installed by default with 24.04 and my RTX 2080 card), but on X11.
Loading /usr/share/ directory could take 10-15 seconds.

Updating manually my drivers to nvidia-driver-550, without using ubuntu-
drivers, seems to have resolved this issue for me for the moment.

feel that it slows the windows rendering while moving them (like a slow
FPS).

[Bug 2051595] Re: Reapplying a layout with mapped applications makes the app unresponsive

2024-04-28 Thread Angel D. Segarra
I can reproduce this much more easily and consistently when tiling
chrome and vscode both running under xwayland.

e.g.
1. Tile vscode to the right (super+right)
2. Tile chrome to the left (super+left)
3. both apps are unresponsive to input, chrome can be seen flickering as in OPs
video with gnome-text.

[Bug 2063983] Re: 24.04 Upgrade/Fresh Install results in black screen on reboot on AMDGPU system

2024-04-28 Thread twelfth
I forgot to mention in my summary that I could not duplicate any of the
issues I was having when I swapped out the Radeon 6800XT for a GeForce
1070 in my Desktop and repeated the process of doing a full wipe and
reinstall of 24.04. I plan to repeat these steps with my current
configuration (Ryzen CPU and 6800XT GPU) after swapping out the SSD so I
can collect logs as requested of me in #ubuntu on Libera.

He podido comprobar que al deshabilitar esta función, Eclipse no desaparece,

the systemd stub resolver in order to allow AdGuard dns server listen on
all interfaces. I am assuming that is the source of the problem.

If you encounter the "No Camera Found" issue while using GNOME Snapshot, here's
how you can address it:
- Close the App: First, close the GNOME Snapshot app if it's open.
- Restart Pipewire: Open a terminal by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T. Then, restart
Pipewire by running the following command:

systemctl --user restart pipewire

- Launch GNOME Snapshot: After restarting Pipewire, run the following
command to start the camera app from the command line:

snapshot
