[Bug 284354] Re: AR2424 on Samsung Q1 loads both ath_pci and ath5k modules
Quoting Tim here regarding the 'two modules loading' problem: The root of the problem is that all Atheros 5K adapters have but a few unique PCI identifiers. However, 2 adapters with the same PCI ID may have different RF backends. The newer RF2424 backends are not supported by the released version of madwifi, yet the madwifi driver still gets loaded (because the PCI ID matches), fails to init the part, bails out with an error, and leaves the chipset in an inconsistent state such that the ath5k adapter cannot init the part either, even though it may have been able to support the newer backend. [Bug 217309] Re: 8.04 i386 -generic kernel seeing 3GB RAM on 64-bit 8GB RAM system
Aah.. so it is detected correctly by the LiveCDs. In that case it is a simple case of the Desktop version of kernel (-generic) not being configured to handle more than 4Gb memory. You have two options: 1. Use the precompiled -server kernel that is configured to use upto 64Gb of memory OR 2. Compile your own -generic kernel with CONFIG_HIGHMEM64G set ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New = Won't Fix -- 8.04 i386 -generic kernel seeing 3GB RAM on 64-bit 8GB RAM system https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217309 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 197166] Re: [hardy] kernel should have usb persist mode built in
While working with Classmate (toward the very end of Hardy), it was discovered that simply enabling USB_PERSIST is not enough. We need another patch[1] to get it to work correctly. However that patch doesn't quite work due to another patch[2] in the Hardy tree. Since getting this fixed in the short time was not possible, the USB Persist patch[1] did not make it into the Hardy release. It is now being made available through the classmate PPA[3]. Adding that to your /etc/apt/sources.list should get you the new kernel when it is built. Also, I am currently not sure if eeePC will also require the CONFIG_MMC_UNSAFE_RESUME option set, but I suspect it will. [1]. http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.usb.general/1899 [2]. [Bug 162683] Re: DVD-RAM writing error
There are two things to try: 1. Upgrade the firmware on your drive to run the latest 2. Check with latest Gutsy release if this problem recurs A quick google search for this drive seems to show that this drive is causing problems to lots of people on Windows and Linux.
