If you've installed the banshee-extension-lyrics package, remove it, and
test again. (I thought I fixed this already)

[Bug 258900] Re: Sharing dialog misleading label

2009-05-12 Thread Chow Loong Jin
I believe this may be the same issue as Bug #212970, and also fixed by
the installation of libpam-smbpass (automatically installed by default
along with samba when first sharing a folder. I'm marking this as fix
released. If you still encounter this issue, feel free to reopen this

[Bug 212970] Re: nautilus-share permissions (samba password is not set)

2009-05-12 Thread Chow Loong Jin
I believe the current nautilus-share will install libpam-smbpass, which
will generate smb passwords based on your unix passwords. That's the
reason it asks you to restart your session upon installation. I'm
marking this as fix released. If you still see this issue (without
libpam-smbpass installed) feel free to reopen this bug.

[Bug 211966] Re: nautilus-share report a warning about missing /var/lib/samba/usershares

2009-05-12 Thread Chow Loong Jin
As per Václav Šmilauer's post, all that's required after the samba
installation is a restart of the session, i.e. logging out and logging
back in. The current nautilus-share prompts the user after the auto-
installation of samba (and libpam-smbpass) to restart the session.
Hence, I'm marking this as fix released.

Are you talking about shares-admin? That's still installed by default in
Ubuntu, just that the launcher doesn't show in GNOME by default. And in
that case, perhaps this bug should be assigned to that package instead
(gnome-system-tools, I believe).

Alright, I see this one. Just to confirm:
  * The emblem issue only happens when attempting to share
Documents, but not for other random folders (I can reproduce
this but I can't figure out what's going on)
  * The "write" option appearing disabled but actually enabled is a
bug in nautilus-share (I have spotted the faulty code and will
push a patch for this)
      * I still can't reproduce the issue where Properties > Share is
disabled upon restarting.

Thanks for your efforts, but I've already fixed that part in the
nautilus-share git packaging repository for Debian (I prefer the use of
strstr, because "Everyone:R/F" can appear anywhere in the string) and
was poking around with the emblem issue for the past few hours.

The results of my tests were that the bug cannot be fixed in
nautilus-share, but resides in the nautilus extensions interface code.
Specifically, the Nautilus Info Provider interface calls the function
provided by an extension for all files/directories except the XDG
standard directories, i.e. Documents, Music, Pictures, etc. If this is
fixed in Nautilus, then the emblem issue would automatically be fixed
without any change in nautilus-share code.

Actually I've got a patch for this, which provides uswsusp with usplash
support. Unfortunately, I keep running into an issue with uswsusp where
it keeps hanging at the end of the resume process. It's possible to
workaround by using Alt+SysRq+E at that part though. A patched package

I believe you're mistaken on this note. Banshee 1.5.0 has not, and will
not be entering Ubuntu Karmic (9.10), and as such, the daily live cd
will not have this version of Banshee. This is because Banshee 1.5.0 has
a beta status, similar to how GNOME packages have odd minor version
numbers for unstable releases.

Banshee 1.5.0 is available for Ubuntu Karmic, Jaunty, and Intrepid in
the Banshee Unstable PPA[1].

cannot reproduce the crash? If you do not want to upgrade to Ubuntu

If you mean that you cannot reproduce the crash with an up to date

I don't really care whether it is a papercut or not, but you're being
rather strict about this don't you think? Samba is not a part of the
default install, but nautilus-share is, and as such, bugs in user
experience to do with nautilus-share that conform with the papercut
definition otherwise *are* papercuts.

Papercut or not, I'm still going to be working on this, as it is a bug
worth fixing.

I'd like to think that the default user needs to share files, and would
use nautilus-share for that. They would, in turn, be prompted to install
samba, and all of this is part of the default user experience.

I'm very well aware of the papercuts project and its aim, thank you very
much for repeating yourself.

I'm the maintainer of nautilus-share, so naturally all bugs regarding
nautilus-share are also my responsibility.

I'll fix anything that bugs me that's within my capability, if I have
the time. And like I said before, I already know about the papercuts
project.

Now then, this whole papercut-or-not business is annoying the hell out
of me so I'd really like to just drop it. What matters here is that the
bug will get fixed, and users will be happy. Whether this is a papercut
or not is an unnecessary detail. What I would appreciate, though, would
be if you thought through things a little more before marking stuff as
invalid.

[Bug 381187] [NEW] gnome-power-manager does not detect notify-osd

2009-05-28 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

gnome-power-manager (as of 2.26.1-0ubuntu3) does not detect notify-osd
for changing the brightness levels. The reason for this is that the
libnotify code in the Ubuntu patch is surrounded by a #ifdef
HAVE_LIBNOTIFY, which is no longer defined in the new version of
gnome-power-manager.

[Bug 381242] [NEW] gnome-power-manager does not detect battery discharging

2009-05-28 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

In Karmic, gnome-power-manager does not detect the current charge of the
battery while it is discharging. To summarize:
1. Disconnect power cord:
2. Note that gpm's tray icon detects that the power cord's disconnected, and
says 99% battery
3. Wait a while
4. Note that the battery charge monitor applet shows the charge dropping, while
the tooltip of gnome-power-manager shows the battery still full.
5. Plug the cord back in.
6. Note that gpm's tray icon detects that the power cord is plugged back in,
and suddenly knows the correct charge.

To be make things even clearer, I shall attach a screenshot of the power
graph, with data points enabled. Basically, the charge level of the
battery is only detected when the power cord is disconnected, when it's
connected, and when it's charging, but not when it's discharging. This
is dangerous as the user will not be warned when the power hits
critical level (because gpm thinks it's still 99%), and the system will
not auto-hibernate despite being configured to do so, resulting in
"sudden death" of the computer with the battery completely exhausted.

[Bug 381242] Re: gnome-power-manager does not detect battery discharging

2009-05-28 Thread Chow Loong Jin
I'd like to add that -0ubuntu4 does not exist at the moment, but is
actually -0ubuntu3 with the applied debdiff from Bug #381187. The only
thing different is the notify-osd patch. I can confirm that this
behaviour happens even with -0ubuntu3.

Right, and exactly what's wrong with that? I think it's a nice feature,
as long as it doesn't block my media players when they're active and
should be the ones responding to the media keys instead of Evince. And
it doesn't any more, since that other bug is fixed (and by the way, it

[Bug 367377] Re: High load average, disk read, no apparent reason - 2.6.28-11

2009-05-21 Thread Chow Loong Jin
I'm confirming this. My restart X cycle happens at approximately once every 5
or 6 hours of usage. The symptoms are exactly as mentioned, but with an
addition. /proc/dri/0/gem_objects shows a large number of GEM objects
allocated, but the number of GEM objects does not really matter. What really
matters is the memory consumption (the figure on the second line) of the GEM
objects. When this hits approximately 2G, my system will almost slow to a halt.
Starting or closing any application becomes a pain, and almost any action in
particular can cause intense swapping to occur (I'm assuming that the large
disk I/O is swapping, because iotop does not show anything). The kernel I am
running is 2.6.30 rc5, from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/. But
that said, I don't believe this to be a kernel bug. If it was, I don't think
restarting Xorg would cause all the cached memory (as shown in by free) to be
freed up, as well as the swap. I've also found that the following patch to
libdrm can slow down the memory leak issues considerably, but not stop it:

The actual figure is in the second line of /proc/dri/0/gem_objects, I
believe. After ~6h, mine's usually at 2G. If I push it further, it turns
negative. To be able to leak enough memory to cause integer overflows by
just calculating how much memory it's leaked... this is an achievement.

[Bug 380210] [NEW] [needs-packaging] geany-plugins-addons

2009-05-25 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

Addons is a plugin for Geany which adds various small addons to Geany
which aren't worth an own plugin but might still be useful for people.
The addons included are:
 * DocList:
Adds a new item in the toolbar and when clicked offers a menu listing all
open files plus the 'Close All' and 'Close Other Documents' menu items.
This can be useful to quickly access open files and switch to them.
 * OpenURI:
Adds 'Open URI' and 'Copy URI' menu items to the editor menu when the word
under the cursor looks like a URI. 'Open URI' uses the browser command
configured in Geany to open it.
 * Tasks:
Goes through a file being edited and picks out lines with "TODO" or "FIXME"
in them. It collects the text after those words and puts them in a new
"Tasks" tab in the message window. Clicking on a task in that tab takes you
to the line in the file where the task was defined.

Re: [Bug 394506] [NEW] banshee crashes just after running

2009-07-02 Thread Chow Loong Jin
I'm tempted to just say "Install Banshee from the repository plz,
kthxbye", but out of courtesy, I'll fill you in on the details of why
you are seeing an error such as this, i.e. missing dependencies.

Based on the following log, here are the packages you are missing:
* libnotify0.4-cil
* libtaglib2.0-cil
* libmono-zeroconf1.0-cil

Better yet, just install a pre-compiled Banshee deb from either the
PPA[1] or from the Ubuntu repositories!

I'm hereby marking this bug invalid, because you're not using a
supported Banshee package, i.e. you compiled and installed it from
source yourself.

Well then, there's your answer. This bug is invalid due to improper setup.

Anyway, you might be interested to try out 1.5.0, which is in the
banshee unstable PPA[1].

Could you be clearer about the error response you get? If I'm not
mistaken, the issue you're probably getting is that you cannot share
what does not belong to you (owner = your username). If you're getting
that, then it's a bug in how you mounted your fat32 volume, not in
nautilus-share. USB drives which are formatted using fat32 have a
uid= argument passed in when mounted automatically in
Ubuntu, and these can be shared perfectly fine. I have not tested with
NTFS, but chances are that it is the same.
