Marked 337735 as duplicate.
'sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-180' -fixed it for me too. however 180 doesn't
show in the GUI System->Administration->Hardware Drivers.

[Bug 337019] Re: [Intrepid] screen goes black after upgrading to kernel 2.6.27-13-generic

2009-03-09 Thread Dan The Man
I agree with Jose. I've gone back to -12 now because despite the fact that -13
boots with nv 180, it consistently fails to recover from suspend. Only way out
is hard power-off.
Bad form.
I used to think it was a bit daft that grub kept all the boot options for old
kernel images, now I'm glad.

Fair enough! feeling suitably humbled.

[Bug 269904] Re: Screen refresh problems with nvidia on intrepid

2008-10-17 Thread Dan The Man
I've been updating at least twice a day recently because this problem really
has been a big pain. If I'd known what using intrepid entailed, I probably
would have stuck with hardy.
AAaanyway, the latest update included compiz 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4
Kudos to Aaron and everyone who's been involved, It seemed to work, for about
30 seconds, and then firefox crashed. I hope this was a one off, all seems OK
now, certainly better.
Firefox was certainly the worst affected for me (this got loads worse before it
got better) Only been testing for a few minutes, but it seems a really screwed
up computer has become a usable one.
Thanks

[Bug 269904] Re: Screen refresh problems with nvidia on intrepid

2008-10-13 Thread Dan The Man
I came here from a bug duplicate, because I had only noticed the problem in
firefox. I dont seem to have the same issues in gedit, (those are about the
only tools I use!) and it certainly doesn't affect my winXP running on
virtualboxOSE.
This has only started since yesterday, (iv'e been doing regular updates) and
it's really annoying, because firebug is next to useless now.

8.10 intrepid
2.6.27-7
nvidia 177 driver

:~$ lspci -n | grep 300

:~$ lspci | grep VGA

[Bug 269904] Re: Screen refresh problems with nvidia on intrepid

2008-10-13 Thread Dan The Man
Just read through the comments here in a bit more detail, and I reckon I
have actualy had this problem for a while. Bits of cursors hanging
around, etc. But it has got ALOT worse with the latest upgrades. Firefox
is getting really annoying.

[Bug 202490] Re: No driver for Ricoh R5C822 Xd card reader

2008-10-01 Thread Dan The Man
Now, I'm very new to this, but I've just done the 8.10 upgrade, and my lspci |
grep ricoh output is identical to those listed above. Dell Vostro 1700.
Everything I've seen on the web in the last hour leads me to believe that it's
impossible to read xd cards with a built in reader using gnu/linux.
(not very) Interestingly, I just put ubuntu on this machine this morning dual
boot, and when I fired up xp pro, it told me 'Found new hardware: xd picture
card reader'. It had always worked flawlessly before in xp on this box. I
guess I'm just going to have to stick with windows, because microsoft, quite
clearly, make far superior operating systems than this geek oriented linux
nonsense.

[Bug 337735] [NEW] Linux kernel 2.6.27-13 boot fail

2009-03-04 Thread Dan The Man
Public bug reported:

Today's update included the -13 kernel. After the 2nd boot screen with the
orange progress bar, it freezes with a blank screen and no disk activity. Fails
consistently. Selecting -12 in grub still boots fine.
Dell vostro 1700, Ubuntu 8.10 gnome
Let me know how I can provide further info.

** Affects: ubuntu
