[Bug 205170] [NEW] please resync pokerth with the version in debian

2008-03-22 Thread Evgeni Golov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pokerth

I uploaded 0.6.1 to debian some days ago, please resync your package with
Debian.
The new packages split the data and server stuff in own packages, so saving
some space on the mirrors and not installing too much on the users pc.

cognoscenti is going to go digging under /usr/share/doc, unless
 explicitly told to look there.

Hum, should we remove /u/s/doc then ;)

Nor should most users look there, given
the nature of the material generally present (changelogs, TODO files,
copyright notices). At best, we'll train users to read man pages.

In any event, don't worry about removing the package. If you add a
hint to that file on startup, and to the package description, that
should indicate to most users that the feature won't be present, and
point the rare few (a tiny fraction of a percent) who can handle the
patch to what they have to do. And we can hope that someday either the
kernel support will be mainline, or the daemon won't need it.

I think adding a hint to the init script only should be enough.
IMHO hdaps is something advanced even when the kernel would have the
UNLOAD support, as the vanilla kernel has many problems with newer
hdaps chips (this is solved by tp-smapi (not in Ubuntu)) and thus hdapsd
might not work correctly sometimes.

However, I'm trying to get multidisk support for hdapsd and will then
upload a version with a louder RTFM ;-) in the init script.

two hdapsd instances should not be the way you want (but it should work though).
Did you try giving hdapsd two -d options? If this does not work, I'll try to
speak with upstream, maybe we will find an easy way to solve the issue without
running hdapsd twice.

Re: [Bug 189621] Re: v86d missing, needed for uvesafb

2008-07-25 Thread Evgeni Golov
Hi,

I was able to reproduce this error on one of my machines. It seems it
*does* find v86d, as the error would have to more lines if it wouldn't:

uvesafb: failed to execute /sbin/v86d
uvesafb: make sure that the v86d helper is installed and executable
uvesafb: Getting VBE info block failed (eax=0x4f00, err=-2)
uvesafb: vbe_init() failed with -22
uvesafb: probe of uvesafb.0 failed with error -22

I still do not understand why it works on 2 machines, and on one not...
Could you try moving the uvesafb line from /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
to /etc/modules, run update-initramfs -u and reboot? That works for
me on the one machine, however that means that uvesafb and v86d will be
started a bit later (leaving you with an ugly console until then).

Regards
Evgeni

PS: what graphiccard do you have? My working are an old Radeon 7000 and
a VIA Chrome 9, the non-working is a Radeon X1400.

improvements. It would be nice if you could sync it, so it could go to

The only change you still need it the adding of uvesafb.h.

And please please please, don't use v86d as default (so dont let the

It results in tty alignment being wrong (like its centre aligned not
 left)

Why do you do this? If you want to change resolution, you can use fbset.
And additionaly, 1280x1024 should be possible with standard vesafb
using vga=793 (or 794 or 795).

 Problem 2:

Trying to load video=uvesafb:1280x1024-32 wont run in the grub boot line
results in nothing occuring and the default vga res being activated.

Do you have uvesafb in your kernel (or at least in your initrd)? If not
you'll need to add those options in /etc/modprobe.d/ and not on the GRUB
command line.

In addition. After system load we can see that uvesafb was loaded (lsmod |
grep uvesafb), but it doesn't work! Cause uvesafb should create some entries
in /sys/class/graphics/fb0/ which is absent at this moment. And if you
restart uvesafb - they will be created.

So you have
CONFIG_FB_UVESA=y
CONFIG_FB_VESA=n

IMHO that's bad, as uvesafb should not be used as a complete
replacement for vesafb, but only in cases where vesafb fails due to
it's limitations.

Can you post a `dmesg |grep -i uvesa` after a fresh boot with uvesafb
not working correctly? I assume it just can't start v86d (as / is not
yet mounted). This should be solved by including v86d into the initrd.

2.I think this is right way - add uvesafb to initrd, but we need it
 working first.

It works fine as a module here for me, both with and without initrd.

So you're on Intrepid, running PokerTH 0.6.2-2, right?
And you have pokerth-data installed? (It should have been installed as a
dependency of pokerth).

The PokerTH binary is placed under /usr/games/pokerth, the data is in
/usr/share/games/pokerth.
Both, the .desktop and the .menu file point correctly to /usr/games/pokerth (if
it's in your $PATH), so the problem should not occur.

can you post the output of the following commands?
echo $PATH
ls /usr/share/pokerth
dpkg -L pokerth
dpkg -L pokerth-data
dpkg -l pokerth
dpkg -l pokerth-data

And what dpkg -S /usr/share/pokerth?
It seems that dir and it's contents do not come from a package? Did you have
PokerTH installed from source?

That *can't* be.
I just looked at the Hardy package of PokerTH - it calls pokerth only
(which then will be searched in your $PATH) and it installs the binary
to /usr/bin, not to /usr/share/pokerth.
Where does your /usr/share/pokerth/pokerth come from?

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ which pokerth
 /usr/games/pokerth

thats fine

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ dpkg -S /usr/share/pokerth
 dpkg: /usr/share/pokerth not found.

Well, where do your files in /usr/share/pokerth come from then?

Puzzled,

This one is (or was?) needed, because Ubuntu didn't have uvesafb.h in
linux-libc-dev (and it still hasn't).

 -copy_exec /sbin/v86d
 +mkdir -p ${DESTDIR}/sbin

 +copy_exec /sbin/v86d /sbin

This is unneeded, as copy_exec will create the destination directory on
its own and copy the file to the same prefix (/sbin) if it's ommited

[Bug 300803] [NEW] linux-libc-dev: please include video/uvesafb.h

2008-11-21 Thread Evgeni Golov
Public bug reported:

Hi,

currently Ubuntu does not ship /usr/include/video/uvesafb.h in linux-
libc-dev (it does in various linux-headers-* but that does not help
while building packages needing that file), as a result of this, v86d
has to ship an own (maybe outdated) copy of that file. Could you please
ship it? That would make the diff between Debian and Ubuntu v86d smaller
(actually zero) and make our life easier.

Hey,

please sync hdapsd 1:0.0.20081004-1 from Debian with the attached diff ontop.
This version is currently only in experimental because we are in freeze for
Lenny and no new upstreams should be uploaded to unstable in that time. It's
stable and should go to jaunty without problems.

This releases fixes #218072 in the Debian version and #258342 in the
attached Ubuntu-version.

Any chance you can try using radeon or radeonhd with your card? These should be

are you still interested in multidisk support? I've hacked a bit on it,
can you have a look at
http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.drivers.hdaps.devel/1474 and
compile that hdaps.c and try it?

Regards
Evgeni

2011-05-06 Thread Evgeni Golov
Heya,

sorry, but I cannot reproduce this neither on current i386 Sid nor i386 Oneiric.
amd64 should not get a build anyways.

BTW, it ftbfs for another reason (it tries to call gcc with --as-
needed), but that's not the report here.

Your log misses -lm -ldl at the very end of the command line. This is
passed as LIBS to configure in debian/rules.

I'd like to close it here, as (from my POV) your bug is not a bug (and
upload a fix for the other ftbfs asap)

[Bug 474392] Re: LTSP Clients show shutdown, hibernate in indicator-applet-session

2011-06-22 Thread Evgeni Golov
Just my 2¢: indicator-session is just a gui, the user should not have
the right to shutdown the machine in the first place (consolekit,
policykit or whatever allows him to do so).

[Bug 371916] [NEW] please sync 0.1.9-1 from Debian

2009-05-04 Thread Evgeni Golov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: v86d

Hi,

some time ago I've uploaded 0.1.9 to Debian, which today migrated to testing
and seems to work fine.
Please sync it into karmic. The uvesafb.h adding isn't needed anymore, as
linux-libc-dev has it (in jaunty and karmic), so you can auto-sync the package
without any manual merges :)

Regards
Evgeni

Ugh? Which version of lintian do you use? Here on 2.2.10 (on Debian
unstable) this warning isn't shown, as Applications is a valid root
entry in the Debian menu.
