[Bug 554569] Re: [lucid] Blank screen with KMS on Thinkpad X201 with Arrandale (i915)

2010-06-23 Thread Haitao Zhang
After upgrade BIOS to 1.15 (6QET45WW), Embedded Controller Verison 1.09
my i7-M620 X201 still won't affect with this bug, but I already reproduce this
bug on another i3 X201.
Looks through http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrandale_(microprocessor) page,
i3/i5/i7 are all in Arrandale Family, so it's really confused why this bug
only happened on i3/i5.

Thanks for your update, mabawsa and fanofanne,
could guys please help me test whether mainstream kernel also have this bug on
your X201?

Hi, previous patch is about to fix eDP issue, seems not specifically for this
X201 bug.
so we will leave it alone and plan to fix this issue with the following patch

Updated Lucid kernel for test on X86 and AMD64 are uploaded to

Hi, I can't reproduce this bug on my X201,
Product ID: 3626AM9, Intel i7 + i915, BIOS 1.05
it's working just fine with both Lucid i386 and amd64.
I will try to trigger this bug after upgrade BIOS to latest.
and still need further investigation on more i5/i7 X201.

BTW: some people also report if just increase the err_most variable
does not solve the black screen problem on X201s in upstream kernel.

[Bug 992603] Re: [Lenovo E525, L430, 490Ms, b490, b580] Touchpad can become disabled after suspend/resume

2013-04-19 Thread Haitao Zhang
After installed Raring daily build 2013-04-17 image on E525,
1. S3 test failed into black screen without AMD's fglrx binary driver.
2. after installed default fglrx in current Raring distro, version
2:9.010-0ubuntu2, there is a Unsupported hardware watermark and S3 test still
failed.
so we plan to open a separate bug to track AMD's fglrx issue on Raring, cause
it will block status for this bug on Raring.

[Bug 882779] Re: WLAN card cannot be activated, it is hard-rfkill-ed and fn-f2 does not work

2013-05-13 Thread Haitao Zhang
@Jeff, since WLAN is been blocked by hardware PIN, there is no easy way to
turn it on under Linux in a software way.
the best solution is to see if Quanta willing to release a Thinkpad ACPI spec
including how to do it from WMI interface like Windows app, then we can try to
implement a thinkpad_wmi driver similar to hp_wmi(?) to control it.
or there is another thing we can try is to check whether Quanta provide some
hardware options for turn on/off accessories like WLAN in their latest BIOS.
the last thing to try is to 'Load Defaults' in BIOS, some ODM BIOS will do a
sane way to setup for most of the hardware with it's default configuration,
then maybe accessories like WLAN and BT may turned on in this mode.
