[Bug 1452766] Re: [Browser] Cannot favorite site when it is loading
Thanks for clarifying Olivier. So a revised use-case would be: 1. Attempt to visit a URL with an active connection, page begins loading. 2. Active connection is lost. Page never finishes loading & 'Network error' page is not shown. 3. User can't ever tap star to favourite entered URL (as the star is never shown). I think this case means we should consider showing the star even while loading, as well as when loading completes or is not possible: - The site can be bookmarked with no active connection, from the 'Network error' page (will be the URL as originally entered). - The site can be bookmarked when connectivity is lost while loading/ page loading cannot be completed (will be the URL as originally entered). - The site can be bookmarked when loaded (will be the URL reached after the user has been forwarded, for example to a mobile site, etc). Sound reasonable? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1452766 Title: [Browser] Cannot favorite site when it is loading To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ux/+bug/1452766/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1452766] Re: [Browser] Cannot favorite site when it is loading
Understood. We should definitely let users bookmark pages before they finish loading. I think in cases where the page isn't yet known, we can use the URL as the bookmark name/ in place of a page title (I believe bookmarks currently work this way already). --- --- --- Also, when I experimented with this yesterday I found that the interval before page loading is considered to have failed was very long (certainly long enough to appear to 'never finish loading'): 1. Enter URL for large website with lots of images (e.g. theverge.com). 2. Before page loads, switch to airplane mode. 3. Page loading appears to continue without end. 4. 'Favourite/Star' icon is never shown in address bar Recommended behaviour: 1. Enter URL for large website with lots of images (e.g. theverge.com). 2. Before page loads, switch to airplane mode. 3. [Bug 1367822] Re: [Scopes] Process required to pin a shortcut to the launcher does not fit users mental model
The original request came directly to us during a Sprint in 2014 and the intention was that the 'pin to launcher' button would slot straight into the 'action' area (i.e. the place for buttons in app previews) as described in the toolkit documentation since 2013. That said, Rodney makes a good point - all the more so considering the move toward convergence/ parity for the platform across form factors that is currently picking up steam. [Bug 1238979] Re: [Scopes] Scope result models are cleared on updates
As Cimi said, graphical changes to the UI are likely to introduce more visual noise/clutter and make things less clear (and in the case of slow connections or devices, reduce utility). Michi's suggestion ("...enforce that an existing item cannot change physical location when a new item arrives") would give a far more stable/ predictable user experience and is, in my opinion, the way to go. ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Status: Triaged => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1238979 Title: [Scopes] Scope result models are cleared on updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ux/+bug/1238979/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1357053] Re: [Launcher] home button should reset dash department
I agree that the department should reset to the root department when navigating back to the Apps scope; both in the interest of utility as well as in order to be consistent with how we handle search results (which are cleared when navigating away from a scope). Interestingly, departments are currently not cleared for Apps (as well as other Scopes) when navigating away/too a Scope. However, if a user selects a department and then conducts a search, navigating away/too the scope clears the search AND resets the department (tested in the Amazon and Ebay Scopes). Additionally, opening the department drop-down shows the previously selected department as still being applied. I would propose that Apps is a special case where we should clear searches and reset departments (including within the department drop- dow) when a user navigates away from the scope. All other scopes should preserve both the department and (where relevant) filters, but clear searches which are easily accessible by beginning a new search and selecting from the recent search list. I will raise a new bug for this. ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Status: Triaged => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1357053 Title: [Launcher] home button should reset dash department To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ux/+bug/1357053/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is a largely matter of personal preference and not a bug - if you look at other mobile browsers you'll see both approaches being used by different products, e.g. : - Opera Mobile Browser & - Safari Mobile Browser: Only host name is shown - Chrome Mobile Browser & Firefox Mobile Browser : As much as possible from the *beginning* of a URL is shown (so if a URL is longer than 14-20 characters, only part of the host portion of the URL is visible anyway). [Bug 1491934] Re: Improve webapps navigation UI
My understanding is that the current web-app navigation UI was intended to be aligned as closely as possible with the browser: (https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1IpCWtWuGPES5llwmoscawhn2IG4fxOggMO8F_RM_zms/edit) Using radial menus on the bottom edge has the potential to introduce its own disadvantages, so may not be a 'quick-fix' to this; - the introduction of additional steps to navigating (the first of which is an edge-gesture) - making navigation less immediately discoverable - discouraging the use of the bottom-edge by developers for anything else if the expectation becomes 'that's where navigation occurs' (when we typically encourage that the bottom-edge be used for the most critical/interesting/exciting action available) - etc. Could you provide the reports you mentioned and/ or some illustration (e.g. screenshots) of the problem you're describing to help us understand the issue? The hide/ reveal Navigation UI pattern that is used by web-apps has long been present in the browser, scopes, contacts & telephony, etc - Just about anything with a 'header' (see comparative screenshots below). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1491934 Title: Improve webapps navigation UI To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ux/+bug/1491934/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
