[Bug 353835] Re: Please add 802.1Q/VLAN tagging support to NetworkManager
Thanks to everybody. That helped a lot. Now, is there any chance to get the VLAN connection up as soon as a cable is connected? This works fine for 802-3-ethernet connections, but apparently not for VLAN connections, right? Unfortunately, nm-applet does not even show the connection at all. I hoped, one could at least activate or deactive the VLAN connection with nm-applet. Editing configuration would not have been necessary. So, at the moment, am I right, that there is no other way than entering nmcli con up id VLAN1 whenever I connect the cable? [Bug 42398] Re: Dapper kernel 2.6.15-21 K7 and others hang probing CK804 IDE
Still present in the latest (as of a week or so ago) Edgy and kernel.org kernels. I have done more background research on the problem, and it is to do with PCI express support. On the one hand, the kernel developers seem to be still learning about it, and on the other, more seriously, an awful lot of BIOS' do not implement it correctly, causing system hangs at boot if it is used anyway. The kernel developers are gradually adding workaround support for those BIOS', but there are still quite a few systems which hang if mmconfig is enabled. I would really suggest that you disable mmconfig PCI probing when you build the Edgy kernel, as PCIe support is probably somewhat less important than supporting many systems reliably. -- Dapper kernel 2.6.15-21 K7 and others hang probing CK804 IDE https://launchpad.net/bugs/42398 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 64468] [Edgy]External USB Drive no longer accessible in vmware
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vmware-player In Dapper, VMware was able to use XP for old applications and used an external Western Digital 120 GB USB hard drive as a backup drive (is formatted NTFS). I would power up the USB drive once I was logged into XP in vmware and the drive would become available. After upgrading to Edgy and using vmware, when the drive is powered up, vmware does not allow it to be recognized. Edgy mounts the drive and will not allow vmware access to the USB drive. So it seems that something was different between the upgraded version and the installed-from-scratch version. donfouts, if you are experiencing this bug after upgrading, I would recommend doing a fresh install of the OS. [Bug 202089] Re: Pulseaudio is blocking normal sound after resume
Neither of the pasuspender commands fixes my problems, nor does killall pulseaudio. Yet I have the same symptoms: Totem and Rhythmbox work fine until suspend/resume, at which point they appear to play fine, but no sound comes out of the speakers. Also, no volume sliders are muted. I believe there are multiple bugs that occur with the same set of actions. My hardware uses kernel device snd_hda_intel. I tried the pulseaudio fixes in this thread, but none of them worked for me. The only valid fix for me in this thread was in the following comment: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/202089/comments/19 This seems to indicate a kernel bug, or at least something at a lower level than ALSA and PulseAudio. I did some more checking and found this bug (and recommended fix, which fixes the issue permanently): https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/270593 The problem is that the snd-hda-intel module has a broken model=auto mode that works on bootup but fails during the suspend/resume cycle. People for whom the pasuspender echo or killall pulseaudio fixes do NOT work should be posting in bug 270593, where I will now be adding more information. Again, two separate issues with exactly the same symptoms. Hope this clears up some of the confusion. :) -- Pulseaudio is blocking normal sound after resume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202089 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 270593] Re: Intel HDA / Realtek ALC885: No sound after resume
Hi! I have the same problem and want to add some information. The following fix works (temporarily): https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/202089/comments/19 This seems to indicate a kernel bug. The suggested fix worked for me: I was able to fix the problem by adding the following line to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base : options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-dig Now my computer suspends/resumes properly. Also, can you please double-check that *every* sound device works with that model? model=auto should work with every sound device, but there's a bug that prevents it from working on resume. See this document: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10495 model=6stack-dig should NOT work with every sound device. model=auto is the default, but, like I said, it's broken. Here's the list of values for the model parameter: http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Documentation/sound/alsa/ALSA- Configuration.txt#769 As you can see, it's quite an extensive list, and sadly it's very hardware specific. So there's really no generic fix that the Ubuntu developers can deliver. The only solution appears to be an updated kernel with a fixed snd-hda-intel module. -- Intel HDA / Realtek ALC885: No sound after resume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/270593 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
