[Bug 288461] Re: gimp menus always on top of images

2009-06-19 Thread Michael Schumacher
Um... I don't think that this bug (it is a feature, actually) is
assigned to the correct upstream bug, and the duplicate seems to be
wrong, too.

used in any command that starts GIMP (by shortcut, context menu, ...):

-s, --no-splash

[Bug 1540759] Re: Mouse cursor appears in the wrong position in Gimp

2016-05-03 Thread Michael Schumacher
One possible explanation is that you had the input device mode set to
Window instead of Screen - see https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-
pimping.html#gimp-prefs-input-devices

This is useful occasionally if you want to have the full size of e.g. a
graphics tablet mapped to an image window.

[Bug 1603321] Re: Config directory ~/.gimp-2.8 should be ~/.config/gimp-2.8

2016-07-15 Thread Michael Schumacher
The location has been changed in the current development branch (2.9)
and this change will be in the 2.10 stable release.

If Ubuntu doesn't want to be inconsistent with every single piece of
GIMP docs, tutorial, hint, message, post, ... concerning the location of
the profile directory for 2.8, I'd suggest to leave this as-is for now.

It will be hard enough to communicate the change alongside a release
that is explicitly changing the profile directory location.

This should be obsolete by now, as gimp itself does what gimp-remote

[Bug 1614593] Re: gimp freezes at end of cage-base transform

2016-09-18 Thread Michael Schumacher
So...

Discovering that Debian and/or Ubuntu decided to make their GIMP 2.8
packages depend on gegl-0.3 instead of gegl-0.2 came as a surprise to
some of the GIMP developers.

We prefer not to raise library dependencies in the stable branch, and
have certainly not planned for changes in GIMP code to accommodate for
this in the stable branch - as you can see, the patch author for the fix
in the GIMP master branch isn't sure if the patch can be backported to
be compatible with both gegl-0.2 and gegl-0.3:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=770848

This makes this hard to fix from our side for distros that choose to
deviate from the upstream dependencies.

Can I assume that Ubuntu tries to fix this for their package, based on
the patch(es) proposed in this bug report?

[Bug 1649428] Re: Cannot open file from https location (URL)

2016-12-14 Thread Michael Schumacher
Might be missing SSL support in some library or tool, or a failure to
access that particular server - the file-uri plug-in can be built to use
through gvfs, libcurl or wget, cf.
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gimp/tree/plug-ins/file-
uri/Makefile.am?h=gimp-2-8#n26

My bet for the Ubuntu packages is on gvfs, as the gimp package doesn't
seem to have a dependency on libcurl or wget. I'm not running Ubuntu and
thus can't check, though.

The fix is rather easy: get the package maintainer to build GIMP 2.8
against GEGL 0.2, just like upstream does it.

The "fix released" is for GIMP 2.9 (the current development version)
with GEGL 0.3.

[Bug 1690544] Re: include proper fix for CVE-2007-3126, released in GIMP 2.8.22

2017-05-13 Thread Michael Schumacher
As I wrote in https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=773233#c2
(that's the bug for the master branch, where GIMP 2.9.x is being made
from), I could not reproduce the crash mentioned in the CVE. Probably no
surprise, given that CVE was reported against GIMP 2.3.x

However, I'd like to stress that this bug might have been fixed a lot
earlier if any of the downstream vendors who noticed it had reported it
upstream. Please make sure that every non-Ubuntu-specific bug in
Launchpad has a corresponding upstream bug report (adding a reference to
thess is what the "Also affects project" link is for), or that an
upstream report is made if you can't find one.

[Bug 1820088] Re: GIMP doesn't start in disco dev

2019-06-02 Thread Michael Schumacher
One of the ways to be sure this doesn't happen would be to force a purge
of everything that has been installed from third-party repositories, do
a clean upgrade, and re-install any pruged packages from the Debian
repos. With some big What-Ifs remaining when said packages happen to
e.g. not be available.

This could be a bug of, or likely rather a change to, the Ubuntu upgrade
policy (as in "people involved in Ubuntu decide how such cases are to be
handled in general), but I am not familiar with the current policy at
all.

Ugh, it's obviously too early... that was meant to read

"[..] do a clean upgrade, and re-install any purged packages from the

and not supposed to imply that packages from Debian should be mixed into

[Bug 1806286] Re: Not adapted to HiDPI screens

2019-08-20 Thread Michael Schumacher
There is an upstream issue report - is Launchpad able to track the
status of Gitlab issues?

[Bug 1841580] Re: Gimp crashed at work with healing tool

2019-09-08 Thread Michael Schumacher
Hi Paul,

as an upstream developer, it is nice to see that there is finally some
coordinated activity in Launchpad regarding bugs of third-party
applications.

What isn't that nice is that most of what I see is rather swift bug
closing - it would likely be a lot more useful if the bug was moved to
the bug tracker of the PPA the users got GIMP from, in most cases that
would be https://bugs.launchpad.net/~otto-kesselgulasch

However, I couldn't find anything in the Launchpad UI for that - is this
supported (maybe by a Ubuntu-specific external tool) or not?

[Bug 1862383] Re: GIMP Crashes when pasted image copied from it into another app

2020-04-22 Thread Michael Schumacher
My suggestion would be to try to pour all that anger energy into
checking whether the change mentioned in the quoted parts of
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/789#note_777421 does solve
that issue.

This is a change to GTK, and the comment likely refers to a more recent
version that what is packaged in Ubuntu 16.04, so the line number might
not match exactly. Testing this requires building GTK, and it being a
rather central library for many applications means it should preferably
be attempted by those who know what they are doing.

That's not really certain, because this usually happen as soon as
something is copied - that's what the issue report I linked to is about.
But it might take some time to occur after the copy action is done, so
"crashes when pasting" could mean that enough time has elapsed then.

2024-05-05 Thread Michael Schumacher
