[Bug 12637] Re: LCD Brightness on Laptop Always Set Very Low at Boot
I struggled with the same problem, before making my own workaround: screen would sometimes dim - after install, - at boot (but tends to improve with boot number: I even thought it was fixed, 1 month without trouble, and then back again), - after using Windows Vista, - when gdm starts, - when VLC starts playing a video - after running xset dpms force off; sleep 1; xset dpms force on - after closing/opening lid (this is corrected is set do nothing on lid closing; it still switch off the screen though) When logged in, I could correct the brightness using Fn-F5 (darker) or Fn-F6 (brighter), or 2 times Fn-F7 (LCD OFF/ON). When in GDM or in console mode, the only key that works is 2 times Fn-F7 (LCD OFF/ON). I could find no real good solution, but I made a perfect (but ugly) workaround, which stills allows me to adjust the brightness, and even still adjusts the brightness on (dis)connecting the AC cord. I found that the brightness value is stored in /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/asus-laptop/brightness (in my case), that the value is correct even when the actual brightness is wrong, and that it is corrected if I rewrite the same value in the same file. So I launch a program that precisely does that every second. So my workaround is the following: In /etc/rc.local, add this line before exit 0: /home/your_login/bin/laptop-brightness And in this file, copy this (adjust FILE= as necessary): #!/bin/sh FILE=/sys/devices/virtual/backlight/asus-laptop/brightness PID=$$ COMMAND=`basename $0` if ps -e | grep $COMMAND | grep -v $PID /dev/null; then echo Program $COMMAND already running, not launching again else while true; do a=`cat $FILE` echo $a $FILE sleep 1 done fi My information: Linux 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Laptop: ASUS M51L -- LCD Brightness on Laptop Always Set Very Low at Boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/12637 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 767823] Re: Overlay scrollbar hidden underneath bottom panel in Ubuntu Classic mode
Just switched to Ubuntu 11.04, using Ubuntu-Classic and taskbar on bottom side. I confirm that this bug is very annoying! Actually, there could be 2 bugfixes: 1) shift scrollbar towards the window when close to taskbar, as it is when close to screen edge. 2) display overlay scrollbar as now, but on a layer above the taskbar. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/767823 Title: Overlay scrollbar hidden underneath bottom panel in Ubuntu Classic mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-scrollbar/+bug/767823/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 627275] Re: Suspend to RAM broken with 2.6.35 kernels on T500
Same symptoms for me. It used to work fine, but now it works just the 2 or 3 first times (after a reboot) and then the last try gives a freeze (screen on, but nothing responding, have to hard reboot). This is an ASUS X51L, with Intel dual-core CPU. 2.6.32-25-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 17 20:26:08 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux -- Suspend to RAM broken with 2.6.35 kernels on T500 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/627275 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 630262] Re: Suspend fails with Lenovo Thinkpad X100e. Ubuntu 10.04 32bit
I have a similar problem with Ubuntu 10.04, on an ASUS X51L Laptop (Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2370 @1.73GHz). I can go to SUSPEND just 3 times. On the fourth time, usually the screen just freezes (backlight still on, hard disk still on, nothing responding even Caps Lock key or power button). Occasionnally, it does go to suspend, but when I wake it up the screen lights up and just freezes similarly. Quite rarely, after making 3 suspends, it will freeze when clicking on shutdown from Ubuntu desktop. I checked the process list and the memory: I can see nothing that would be appear to be drifting (like zoombie processes or memory leaks). I also have this network disconnected problem. I think this is because network is disabled just before the computer freezes, so it is still disabled when I reboot it. The suspend feature was working fine with the previous release, but I cannot tell exactly when it started to fail. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS Release:10.04 $ uname -a Linux asus 2.6.32-25-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 17 20:26:08 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux -- Suspend fails with Lenovo Thinkpad X100e. [Bug 1074351] [NEW] Vertical scrollbar has no minimal height
Public bug reported: Since the upgrade to Xubuntu 12.10 (packet evince 3.6.0-0ubuntu2), the vertical scrollbar has a height that is strictly proportional to the visible fraction of the document. This means that becomes vanishingly small when the document is very long. I did not have this behavior with Xubuntu 12.04. $ uname -a Linux asuslinux 3.5.0-18-generic #29-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 19 10:27:31 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux Window managers: tried with Compiz and with Metacity. [Bug 1071447] Re: [bug] grep -r [ with / without piping ]
I encountered this bug too, and it broke several scripts in my set-up. It seems that, when no input files are given (meaning input from standard input, or pipe), grep -r and rgrep search from *: all the files in the current directory. This is an easy workaround, that does not break any compatibility: add - at the end of the command (meaning: the input is the standard input). $ grep -r 'end$' - No match: this line will not be printed Match: this line will be printed because of its end Match: this line will be printed because of its end $ rgrep --version grep (GNU grep) 2.12 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1071447 Title: [bug] grep -r [ with / without piping ] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grep/+bug/1071447/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Well, it actually works, but by default the event description is folded in (I just see the title), and I must click on the small arrow to unfold it. This is not convenient at all since, when an invitation is sent, the receiver most likely wants to see the description. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/849416 Title: text/calendar attachments are not shown at all To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/seamonkey/+bug/849416/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
