[Bug 1975519] [NEW] Pidgin version 2.14.8 freezes when creating long message or resizing window

2022-05-23 Thread Paul Meckel
Public bug reported:

In the current LTS version (2.14.8) of the pidgin instant messenger
there is a critical bug that makes it become unresponsive with an
infinite loop when a user enters a long text into the text box that
makes the text box resize into one with a scroll bar or when the user
resizes the message window such that a text already entered becomes too
large for it, creating such a scroll bar.

This bug is critical as sending arbitrary amounts of text is a major
feature of any messaging program and having it become unresponsive and
needing to kill it is unacceptable, especially for long messages that
are thus lost before being sent.

More information in the original report here and in the duplicate
reports: https://issues.imfreedom.org/issue/PIDGIN-17413

I request that the ubuntu package repository for 22.04 (jammy) is
updated with pidgin 2.14.9, which fixes this bug.

[Bug 2064187] [NEW] llvm-18-linker-tools does not include LLVMgold.so

2024-04-29 Thread Paul Meckel
Public bug reported:

Unlike all other llvm-*-linker-tools packages, this one does not install
`/usr/lib/llvm-18/lib/LLVMgold.so`. It does however install a broken symlink to
it at `/usr/lib/bfd-plugins/LLVMgold-18.so`
This results in compilation failures with clang++ when used with the `-flto`
flag for link time optimization.

To reproduce:

main.cpp:
```c++
int main() { return 0; }
```

```bash
clang++ -flto main.cpp -o main
```

Results in:
```
/usr/bin/ld: /usr/lib/llvm-18/bin/../lib/LLVMgold.so: error loading plugin:
/usr/lib/llvm-18/bin/../lib/LLVMgold.so: cannot open shared object file: No
such file or directory
clang++: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see
invocation)
```

Package version is

llvm-18-linker-tools/noble,now 1:18.1.3-1 amd64
