[Bug 538708] [NEW] Solaris 10 and OpenSolaris 0906 fails input output under KVM

2010-03-14 Thread Rafal Zawadzki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

I tried with default kvm version in karmic, then I with backported by
myself version from lucid.

Problem exists in both - at some point Solaris and OpenSolaris guest
machines have problems with input/output operation. After it they are
completely unuasable.

I am using kvm_amd module with following kvm options:

kvm -enable-kvm -m 1024 -net nic,vlan=2,model=rtl8139 -net
user,vlan=2,hostfwd=tcp::-:22   -drive
file=/dev/vg0/opensolaris-09.06,cache=none,index=0,media=disk -drive
file=../osol-0906-x86.iso,index=1,media=cdrom -vnc 0:2 -boot once=d $@

I tried also without cache option.

2007-11-29 Thread Rafal Zawadzki
Ok. I found the solution. I downloaded new driver from ati.com page,
then:

./ati-driver-installer-7-11-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/gutsy
sudo apt-get install module-assistant
sudo dpkg -i /home/bluszcz/Desktop/downloads/xorg-driver-fglrx_8.433-1_i386.deb
/home/bluszcz/Desktop/downloads/fglrx-kernel-source_8.433-1_i386.deb
module-assistant a-i fglrx
cd /usr/lib/
sudo rm libGL.so
sudo ln -s libGL.so.1.2 libGL.so.1
sudo ln -s libGL.so.1 libGL.so
sudo ldconfig
sudo reboot

Now i have got back my two monitors again!

Slim is lightweight login manager (below is from Jaunty).

As I see, you have already commented that bug.

I will provide in few hours log from working X start (but for now, I
removed gdm machine completely :P).

But if you take a look at comment #3, you will see that there are some
dependencies on gdm even If I am running slim:

2009-11-07 Thread Rafal Zawadzki
I have downgraded all x related packages - xorg, x11-common, without any
effect.

Finally, I decided to downgrade gdm:

r...@atomic:~# dpkg -i /tmp/iso/pool/main/g/gdm/gdm_2.28.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
dpkg: warning: downgrading gdm from 2.28.1-0ubuntu2 to 2.28.1-0ubuntu1.

From this moment my system works perfect again.

If I can help in other way to resolve this gdm issue, just give me a
sign.

When i put on hdmi cable - systemsettings popup appears and show me
systemsettings - Display window.

Unfortunately - it cannot detect proper resolution and LCD HDMI tells me
Unacceptable mode. But it works when I start X server with put cable
in.

The next problem is that i cannot choose other settings then Clone Of
- for example when I set above of LVDS and click Apply (Zastosuj) - i
still has cloned hdmi output. When i launch Display Settings again -
there is no sign after my operation...

[Bug 567120] [NEW] Problems with plymouth (including documentation)

2010-04-20 Thread Rafal Zawadzki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plymouth

First of all, plymouth prevents X from start. I checked plymouth files
in /etc/init/ and there are rules for gdm, xdm kdm etc. I am using
another login manager - slim, but there is no rule for it. I understand
it, so to avoid manually stopping plymouth every run i decided to turn
it off.

I checked /usr/share/doc/plymouth/README.Debian file and I found there
below informations:

'
 1) Remove all of the plymouth-theme-* packages from your system,
including the text ones. Plymouth will remain installed to
permit boot-time prompts.

2) Remove splash from the kernel command-line. You can do this
per-boot, or make it permanent by changing the
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line in /etc/default/grub

I made both things, but none of them dosn't turn off plymouth. They just
prevent plymouth to use the theme. But service is started - I have to
run stop plymouth again to start the X.

I tried to apt-get remove plymouth - but then It want remove all base
packages, which seems completely weird for me - why just another
splash solution (third one? I cannot count all of them) is fundamental
part of systme?

I would like to have possibility to remove plymouth and I think that
documentation should be fixed to provide correct solution to turn off
the plymouth.

[Bug 567120] Re: Problems with plymouth (including documentation)

2010-04-20 Thread Rafal Zawadzki
As I wrote, I know why plymouth is not stopping when I am using slim, so
this is not issue.

The problem is, that documentation leads to misunderstand - informations
providen there don't work, simply as that.

You mentioned also, that plymouth is not splash screen, it,s an I/O
multiplexer.

So, there is another problem in package description:

apt-cache show plymouth

Description: graphical boot animation and logger - main package
Plymouth is an application that runs very early in the boot process
(even before the root filesystem is mounted!) that provides a graphical
boot animation while the boot process happens in the background.

After reading this description - I was more than sure that it's just
another splash screen which hides important information from boot
process... How can I read what plymouth is?

blus...@atomic [(wto kwi 20) 11:06]:~
$ ls /usr/share/doc/plymouth/
changelog.Debian.gz changelog.gz copyright README.Debian
blus...@atomic [(wto kwi 20) 11:06]:~

The only README is Debian specific and doesn't provide information what
plymouth is. And due to your reply - apt-cache show plymouth provide
informations which are not correct.

However, I managed not to run plymouth using stupid hack/trick - my
Ubuntu Lucid boots faster now. I am most than sure that I don't need it.
As Ubuntu user I want to have possibility to remove package which is not
necessary.

But let's come back to package again - descriptions and docs must be
fixed.

[Bug 567120] Re: Problems with plymouth (including documentation)

2010-04-20 Thread Rafal Zawadzki
BTW, I have just checked Dependencies of plymouth, and it's depend on
libdrm-radeon1 for example...

I cannot remove libdrm-radeon1 because of plymouth, which is absurd. I
don't have ATI card (Intel here), and DRM is now part of base system? :O
Should I submit another bug for this libdrm-radeon1?

[Bug 567120] Re: Problems with plymouth (including documentation)

2010-04-20 Thread Rafal Zawadzki
I took a look at:

http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/Plymouth

and even there I cannot find any informations about advantages of
Plymouth. The only nice thing (which I found there) is logging of boot
process.

But I read there For systems that don't have DRM mode settings drivers,
plymouth falls back to text mode..

What does it means? text mode is simply theme with text mode (default
one I think) or it's real text mode which doesn't prevents X from
start? I am asking because I don't understand why and how X cannot start
because of plymouth. Maybe without using DRM plymouth can be less
problematic?

Where I can read about I/O multiplexer functionality?

[Bug 72145] Re: Broken default configuration

2009-09-13 Thread Rafal Zawadzki
To fix it you can copy default configuration by:
cp /usr/share/doc/larswm/examples/sample.larswmrc ~/.larswmrc

This is working for me - Jaunty 32bit.

However, on my notebook keyboard default configuration doesn't allow for
many commands ;)

[Bug 538708] [NEW] Solaris 10 and OpenSolaris 0906 fails input output under KVM

2010-03-14 Thread Rafal Zawadzki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

I tried with default kvm version in karmic, then I with backported by
myself version from lucid.

Problem exists in both - at some point Solaris and OpenSolaris guest
machines have problems with input/output operation. After it they are
completely unuasable.

I am using kvm_amd module with following kvm options:

kvm -enable-kvm -m 1024 -net nic,vlan=2,model=rtl8139 -net
user,vlan=2,hostfwd=tcp::-:22   -drive
file=/dev/vg0/opensolaris-09.06,cache=none,index=0,media=disk -drive
file=../osol-0906-x86.iso,index=1,media=cdrom -vnc 0:2 -boot once=d $@

I tried also without cache option.

[Bug 1026510] Re: lxkeymap does not remember settings

2012-09-05 Thread Rafal Zawadzki
0. Relocate to Spain [optional]

1. Install lubuntu with choosing Spanish layout during installation.

2. Spend 1 week trying to buy US keyboard in Spain [or buy online]

3. Replace your ES keyboard with US one.

4. Run your Ubuntu

5. Run lxkeymap and change layout

6. Reboot computer

7. GOTO 5

I made some workaround changing keyboard layout on the kernel level or
messing in etc - so its changed global now. Unfortunately I don't
remember what exactly - but for now I am happy not to have using
lxkeymap again.

I hope it help - if you have more questions - let me know.
