Public bug reported: It was installed after i tried to add ppa for android studio. Currently the android studio is not working. I have set JAVA_HOME path to the relevant jdk directory but its still showing error. [Bug 1592442] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial hard crashing on ACER E3-11-P0D8
Public bug reported: About a month ago I installed the latest Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial on my ACER E3-11-P0D8 laptop. Since then, it randomly freeze up while I work. It generally takes 10-20 mins to do that. Out of frustration, I started to change the kernel. It seems that every >4.0 kernel is freezing up my system. Now i am stable at 3.19.8 from here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ Please note: When using old kernel ( 3.19.8 ) i have no crash. But when i use the latest one, it freeze up and i can not use anything ( no kernel panic, no terminal, nothing, keyboard mouse doesn't work ). The freeze happens very randomly. It can take 5 mins or hours after working. And it takes me to switch off the laptop and start it again. I have installed v4.7-rc3 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7-rc3-yakkety/ The wifi seems not to be working, but i guess that's okey because its a beta or something ? I had 2 freezes in a months use. I suspect the bios update has lessen the issue. But the hard crash happened. 1. Output of the terminal is as follows: saif@saif-Aspire-E3-112:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date [sudo] password for saif: V1.16 10/20/2015 saif@saif-Aspire-E3-112:~$ Not sure if it helps, but i think this hard crash has to do something with dual booting windows. Windows so far has no problem on hard crash, but as i dual boot, it suspends the hard disk. Yesterday i was having problem shutting down ubuntu. Then made restart, started windows, restarted from it. Then went into ubuntu and then it had no problem shutting down. I will attack some files as requested. In /var/crash i found one file: _usr_bin_mate-panel.1000.crash Alongside, i am uploading the kernel logs. Those kernel logs are huge, and at this point very tedious for someone to look into that stuff. I also don't remember which date the crash happened after bios update. So if you guys want, i can wait for a system freeze, and then upload the kernel logs. I am not really familiar with crash dump recipe, not i believe it makes a dump.
