I attach the file itself for people who doesn't know how to extract it
from the packages.

Just copy it in /usr/lib/gvfs (as root, of course).

In order to open a root Nautilus, just open a terminal and type

sudo nautilus

That will allow you to copy the file in the right place. But is
important to close it ASAP after doing the replacement.

Replacing gvfs and gvfs-backends with the ones from Maverick (Ubuntu

(probably in gvfsd-ftp backend).

I reinstalled GVFS and GVFS-BACKENDS from 11.04 and the bug were again
there. Then I replaced only the file /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-ftp using one
taken from an Ubuntu 10.10, and now it works fine, so definitely the bug
is in GVFSD-FTP backend.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 574693 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574693

As I've explained, it's not the same bug than #574693. Also, as
commented, replacing gvfsd-ftp in Natty (11.04) with the same file from
Maverick (10.10) fixes the bug, so the problem must be in changes done
in that file. Finally, in my system there was no .crash file to send, so
I suppose that the original sender had the same problem.

Due to all these reasons, I changed the status again to NEW, and changed
the package to GVFS.

** Package changed: nautilus (Ubuntu) = gvfs (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: gvfs (Ubuntu)
   Status: Invalid = New

[Bug 1242865] [NEW] Glade can't work with dialog windows

2013-10-21 Thread Sergio Costas
Public bug reported:

If I try to open a glade file made with the previous Ubuntu system, that
contains a Dialog window, glade exits with a core dump.

If I open glade and start a new project, if I choose a Dialog window, it
is shown empty, but glade doesn't allow to add new widgets inside.

With glade-gtk2 occurs the same when opening a glade file.

Maybe the problem is in other library, because I downloaded Glade 3.14.2
from the oficial page, compiled it in my system, and it also failed.

Currently using Ubuntu 13.10 64 bits.

[Bug 1101101] [NEW] gnome-shell depends of evolution-data-server

[Bug 1154852] [NEW] Posix.realpath has incorrect prototype

2013-03-13 Thread Sergio Costas
Public bug reported:

Trying to use Posix.realpath with a code like:

string tmp;
tmp=Posix.realpath(this.config_path);

is compiled to:

_tmp35_ = realpath (_tmp34_, NULL, 0);

which fails with error:

.vala.c:920:2: error: too many argument for function ‘realpath’

because 'realpath' needs only two parameters, not three.

This error exists in both Vala 0.16 and 0.18.

The fix (pointed by Jonas Kulla) is to modify the prototype in
posix.vapi to:

[CCode (cheader_filename = stdlib.h)]
public string? realpath (string path, [CCode (array_length=false)] uint8[]?
resolved_path = null);

[Bug 1270656] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 boots to blank console

2014-04-08 Thread Sergio Costas
I had the same problem, but I fixed it by commenting these lines:

#  if ([ $ubuntu_recovery = 0 ] || [ x$type != xrecovery ])  \
# ([ x$GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX != x ] || [ $gfxpayload_dynamic = 1 ]);
then
#  echogfxmode \$linux_gfx_mode | sed s/^/$submenu_indentation/
#  fi

in /etc/grub.d/10_linux.

[Bug 1181106] Re: Failed to change profile to A2DP in 13.04 (Raring), 13.10 (saucy), and 14.04 (trusty)

2015-11-10 Thread Sergio Costas
Hi all:

I have exactly the same problem as everyone, and tried everything
commented here without success. But I found a way of doing it work,
which maybe helps to fix the error:

* Paired my headset, but didn't set it as trusted. Restarted the bluetooth
service (did this only once, not every time I want to connect your headset; is
just to set it in a know state).
* Now, every time I want to use the headset, I turn it on. Bluetooth icon in
gnome will briefly show as connected, but returns to disconnected (because it
detected the paired device, but, as it is not a trusted one, will no connect
automatically to it).
* Wait about ten seconds until I hear a little "pop" in my headset (I suspect
it is when, after waiting a connection, it puts in some kind of sleep mode to
save battery)
* Now I can go to the bluetooth icon and set A2DP mode, and everything works
fine.

If I try to connect it before that status change, the headset will stuck
in HSP/HFP mode and will refuse to change to A2DP mode.

But there is a case when this fails: sometimes, when turning on the
headset, Gnome shell shows a popup and asks me if I want to accept the
connection. In that case, no matter if I accept or deny it, waiting to
hear the "pop" doesn't work: it will also remain stuck in HSP/HFP mode.

[Bug 1846776] Re: Renaming a desktop item causes the shell to hang

2019-10-04 Thread Sergio Costas
I did several tries yesterday, but none of them worked. First I tried to
remove the "emit" calls and the "addSignalMethods" in desktopGrid, just
in case the problem was an incompatibility with the new class system in
Gnome Shell 3.34. Also removed all the grabHelper calls, but also didn't
work. The problem seems to be the text entry, that is not editable.

Re: [Bug 1883174] Re: Some desktop icons disappear

2020-09-30 Thread Sergio Costas
Oh, ok... Now I understand. You simply can't install the official desktop
icons in the Ubuntu session. You must install gnome-session, choose gnome
shell session instead of Ubuntu session when logging, and there you can use
the extensions.

Of course, you may want to also install dash-to-dock, that gives you the
left dock, and kstatusNotifier.

Re: [Bug 1883174] Re: Some desktop icons disappear

2020-09-30 Thread Sergio Costas
Yes, I understand. But it seems that the ubuntu session blocks new
versions from extensions.gnome.org. AFAIK, they did that to avoid a new
version from the repository to overwrite the official, tested one. So it
seems that you will need to use the gnome shell session instead. But the
other extensions will work in both sessions, at most you will only have
to enable them again.

AFAIK, if you launch a gnome session, and then you return to the ubuntu
session, you shouldn't lost your configuration. So maybe you can do a
test in the gnome shell session to check if the patch works, thus
allowing canonical to integrate it, but use the ubuntu session for your
day-to-day work. Someone here that confirms this?

[Bug 1904351] [NEW] gnome-sound-recorder's "export" dialog disappears suddendly, without intervention.

2020-11-15 Thread Sergio Costas
Public bug reported:

When the "export" file dialog is shown (after pressing the "Export"
button), it disappears suddenly after a few seconds, without user
intervention.

HOW TO REPRODUCE IT:

- Launch gnome-sound-recorder
- Record some sound
- Press the STOP button to end recording
- Press the "OK" button to confirm the recording
- Press the "Export" button; a file dialog will be shown
- Wait

After a variable number of seconds (between two and ten), the dialog
will close suddenly, without user intervention. It should last until the
user chooses a file, or press cancel.

It seems a problem with the garbage collector, because the file selector
widget is stored in a local variable. Storing it in a property of the
object seems to fix it (patch attached).

** Affects: gnome-sound-recorder (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1965537] Re: Desktop Icons NG gjs high CPU ussage when moving window

2022-03-21 Thread Sergio Costas
I can't reproduce this, neither in Debian SID, nor in an Ubuntu 22.04 in
a virtual machine.

Are you using the desktop icons NG extension that is bundled with
Ubuntu, or did you uninstall it and installed the last version from the
git repository?

[Bug 1975371] Re: Plugging / unplugging external monitor rearranges desktop icons differently

2022-05-23 Thread Sergio Costas
This problem is because the primary monitor (the one with the
"Activities" top bar and the docker) when the two are connected isn't
the one at the left.

Until this is fixed, there are several things that you can use to
mitigate this bug:

- you can keep the icons in the monitor at the left
- you can rearrange your monitors to make the one to the left primary one
- If you are using a laptop with an external monitor, you can go to
Settings->Monitor, choose the "Single screen" option and select your external
monitor: this way, when you connect the external monitor, the laptop screen
will be disabled, and when you disconnect it, it will be enabled and the icons
will be exactly where they were.

[Bug 1988440] Re: Regression in 22.04: segmentation fault when language is spanish

2024-04-29 Thread Sergio Costas
Hmmm... the bugs are in the test_xmlb.c file, not in the library! These
variables are defined as autofree/autoptr

g_autofree gchar *blobfn = NULL;
g_autoptr(GPtrArray) parent_appdata = g_ptr_array_new_with_free_func
(g_free);
g_autoptr(GPtrArray) parent_appstream = g_ptr_array_new_with_free_func
(g_free);

but then, they are assigned static values:

blobfn = ("/tmp/components.xmlb");

g_ptr_array_add (parent_appstream, "test_files/xmls1");
g_ptr_array_add (parent_appstream, "test_files/xmls4");
g_ptr_array_add (parent_appstream, "test_files/xmls5");
g_ptr_array_add (parent_appstream, "test_files/yaml6");
g_ptr_array_add (parent_appdata, "test_files/metainfo1");
g_ptr_array_add (parent_appdata, "test_files/metainfo2");
g_ptr_array_add (parent_appdata, "test_files/appdata2");

That's why the test fails. It's not a problem in libxmlb. I'll fix this.

[Bug 1971168] Re: [snap] Files on local network shares are not opened / written

2024-03-11 Thread Sergio Costas
** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

  When the user is running a containerized application (like the snapped
  Firefox or Chromium), and tries to save a document, the xdg-desktop-
  portal-gnome backend does show remote drives (like SMB or SFTP ones),
  and allows to choose them, but then the save operation fails.

  The previous backend, xdg-desktop-portal-gtk, did work fine in these

+ cases because it returned the local path that corresponded to the remote
+ file when exported by Gvfs using FUSE, so this behaviour is not only a
  serious bug, but also a regression.
+
+ The old behavior has been now "set on stone" in the XDG portal
+ specification, mandating that the backends must always return local
+ paths, no matter if the chosen file is a local or remote one, by using
+ FUSE.

  [ Test plan]
  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Run Firefox as a Snap package in Ubuntu 22.04
  2. Have a SMB file server available where the network shares can be mounted
just by clicking on the share in Nautilus file manager (smb:// protocol,
usually mounted dynamically via `/var/run/user/.../gvfs/...`)
  3. Have one such share mounted and writable
  4. Open any website containing images in Firefox
  5. Right-click on an image and select "Save Image As..."
  6. In the file save dialog, navigate to the mounted share
  7. Assert content of network share is visible and browsable from within the
save dialog
  8. Select "Save" at any folder in the network share

  Actual behavior:

  * File is not saved to selected network share location
  * No download entry is created
  * No error is shown

  Expected behavior:

  * File is saved to selected network share location
  * No error is shown

  [ Where problems could occur ]

  - If the remote drives aren't exported as local files by Gvfs using
  FUSE, the patch won't work and the behaviour will be the same than now.

  - Any hidden bug in g_file_get_path() when managing remote drives could
  be triggered by this patch.

  [ Additional information ]

  * When saving to a folder on the local machine instead, saving works
correctly as expected
  * In contrast to files, new folders that are created from within the save
dialog are saved correctly on the network share
  * Similar situation when trying to open a file with Ctrl + O on a network
share from Firefox / Chromium. After double-clicking e.g. an image file in the
file dialog, the file dialog closes but nothing happens otherwise. Opening an
image on a local folder works fine.

[Bug 2061954] Re: filezilla crashed with SIGABRT in start_thread()

2024-05-31 Thread Sergio Costas
I have this bug, and the 3.66.5-2build2 package doesn't fix it.

ii  filezilla3.66.5-2build2
   amd64Full-featured graphical FTP/FTPS/SFTP client
ii  filezilla-common 3.66.5-2build2
   all Architecture independent files for filezilla
ii  libfilezilla-common  0.46.0-3.1build3
   all  build high-performing platform-independent
programs (translations)
ii  libfilezilla42t64:amd64  0.46.0-3.1build3
   amd64build high-performing platform-independent
programs (runtime lib)

I have enabled "noble-proposed", but no dice.

Instead, compiling the source code of filezilla and libfilezilla from
the official page (3.67.0 and 0.47.0) does work fine.

[Bug 2068882] [NEW] Desktop icons in Mantic doesn't honor dock margins in Jammy

2024-06-10 Thread Sergio Costas
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

Gnome Shell 46 changed the Enum that defines the status of an extension,
and that affected Desktop Icons by preventing Ubuntu Dock to send info
about the occupied zone, thus allowing to put icons under it. It has
been fixed in upstream.

This same patch must be added to any other extension that communicates
this info to DING, like Dash-to-panel, Hide-top-bar...

[Test plan]

Go to the extensions properties of Dash-to-dock or Ubuntu-dock and
ensure that the "IntelliHide" option (which hides the dock when a window
is below it, and shows it again when there's only "empty desktop" below
it) is ENABLED, the option "panel mode: extend up to the screen borders"
is DISABLED, and the "maximum size of the dock" is BELOW 100% (90% is
fine).

In an empty desktop (this is, without any window) the dock should be
visible, with some free space in each side (top and bottom if the dock
is vertical; left and right if it is horizontal) where the underlying
desktop can be seen.

Now, open any window and maximize it; the dock should hide, thus
allowing the window to fill the whole screen.

Close the window. The dock should appear again.

Try to move a desktop icon (any icon; a folder, a file, the trash, the
personal folder... any is right) into the free zone of any of the sides.

If the patch works, it should NOT be possible to place the icon there;
if the bug is present, then it will be possible to place the icon there.

It must be also test if it is possible to put an icon in any place of
the "free" desktop surface (this is: any zone that won't be obscured by
a bar, dock or panel).

[Where problems could occur]

If there are problems, they can show in several ways:

- the bugfix doesn't work, and thus it will still be possible to put
icons in zones that should be forbidden

- the bugfix is wrong, and the dock might fail.

** Affects: gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Patch added: "Patch from upstream that fixes this."

[Bug 2069039] [NEW] Disk password prompt isn't shown in external monitor

2024-06-11 Thread Sergio Costas
Public bug reported:

Up to Ubuntu 23.10, when my laptop (which has encrypted hard disk)
booted, it asked for the deciphering password as usual, and, if an
external monitor was connected, the prompt was shown in both the
internal and the external screens. After updating to Ubuntu 24.04 this
no longer is the case: the prompt is shown only in the internal screen,
and the external one remains in powersave mode. After typing the
password, the system begins to boot and, after some seconds (I presume
that it's until the initramfs is pivoted), the external monitor wakes up
and shows the remaining boot process.
