[Bug 492304] [NEW] kickseed do not handle correctly --recommended option to create swap partition

Here is kickseed code that handle the swap patitionning (partition.sh) : if [ $filesystem = linux-swap ] [ $recommended ]; then size=96 priority=512 maxsize=300% partition_leave_free_space= else (I guess --grow is needed as well) Here is an example of the partition scheme used with kickseed : clearpart --all --initlabel part / --fstype ext3 --size=4096 part swap --recommended part /usr --fstype ext3 --size=10240 part /var --fstype ext3 --size=4096 part /tmp --fstype ext3 --size=100 --grow Here is the Redhat Specification concerning the swap creation : (http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/sysadmin-guide/ch-swapspace.html) The size of your swap should be equal to twice your computer's physical RAM for up to 2 GB of physical RAM. For physical RAM above 2 GB, the size of your swap should be equal to the amount of physical RAM above 2 GB I get a python code that i use on RHEL to dynamicaly calculate the swap partition (cause --recommended is not well implemented on RHEL as well) based on the detection on physical available memory retrieved from /proc/meminfo. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio The suspend/resume script for this package (located at /usr/lib/pm- utils/sleep.d/01PulseAudio) will fail if a user has a username longer than eight characters. This is because it relies on the output of 'ps aux', which will display usernames longer than eight characters as their numeric uids. The resulting sudo command generated by the script will then fail, because if sudoing to a uid, the sudo command would need to be specified as sudo -u #1000 rather than sudo -u 1000. I observed this issue on 9.04 (Jaunty). The pulseaudio package version is 0.9.14-0ubuntu20. I expected suspend to work (as it did in Intrepid). It didn't. I had a look at /var/log/pm-suspend.log, and now here we are. :) The attached diff represents one way of fixing this issue. ** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- pulseaudio suspend/resume script fails for accounts with 8 char username https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/374694 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox I am french and using the French version of ubuntu and for Firefox 4 I think it would be better if in the menu bookmark the sub-menu Afficher tous les marque-pages would be written instead Gerer les marque-pages ou bibliothèque des marque-pages ou même Organiser les marque- pages... . [Bug 607039] [NEW] NFS automount failover doesn't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: autofs5 In lucid, using autofs5 version 5.0.4-3.1ubuntu5, we are having trouble using failover with NFS. Autofs allows you to specify multiple hosts with weighting in its configuration files and will fall back to a secondary host if the first host is not available at mount time. However, currently on our systems, the mount fails completely. This functionality does work with our RHEL 5 hosts (which use autofs 5.0.1). Automounting from a single host does work, but when we supply multiple hosts, an strace shows that it's trying to connect to the IP address '0.0.0.0', port 0, rather than any of the hosts we specify. I have attached the full strace output, our /etc/auto.master file, and the relevant file from /etc/autofs.d including the multiple hosts. ** Affects: autofs5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- NFS automount failover doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607039 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
This bug does not only affect Intel chipsets, my AMD Fusion laptop freezes just fine. To the people considering trying newer kernels, here is what it did for me, 3.3.6 and 3.3.7 made my system even more instable, it kept freezing, kernel 3.5 made it impossible to use Unity 3D and forced Unity 2D on me. So the kernel thing may work for some people but it did not achieve much for me. Several people have observed these freezes only seem to occur when browsing, here is what i did, i sudo apt-purged flash, installed the FlashAid Firefox extension which basically installs the best version for your system (64bit in my case) and applies some tweaks, i haven't had a single freeze since i did that last week. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. [Bug 1746200] Re: Regression in 2017-07-07 updates
Thanks for the help, I have checked the timestamps into the 3 logs : It always corresponds to the successful boot. "journalctl -b" gives text I can't interpret, anyway it always corresponds to the last boot (successful). The Bios version is the most up to date one : v301 (13 oct 2016) The "quiet splash" option doesn't give any output to the screen when removed. I already checked that in the past and I re-tested today. I forgot to mention that the freeze occurs just after the Grub automatic selection. I guess the crash occurs in between Grub and kernel init. The bios UI is really limited, and I don't remember going there since a long time (except for boot priority). Moreover that bug doesn't occur when the package "intel-microcode" is removed. Additional hints : - There is a big chance that I installed Xubuntu from a USB key created with UnetBootin (I saw it gives problem with Debian) - I am using the rEFInd Boot Manager on top of Grub -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1746200 Title: Regression in 2017-07-07 updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/intel-microcode/+bug/1746200/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Those 2 lines are : Loading Linux 4.13.0-32-generic ... Loading initial ramdisk ... I am wondering if I could circumvent the bug with the use of an old linux kernel on Xubuntu. [Bug 1746200] Re: Regression in 2017-07-07 updates
- There is nothing about Refind into "journalctl -b". - I am not mixing DEs, I use only Xfce. - What does "S3 recovery" mean ? Samsung Galaxy S3 recovery ? - The bug occurs since the first boot of that Xubuntu install (at that time it was the 20180108 Intel CPU microcode), so I won't try to clean the system. Moreover the freeze occurs before that I have the opportunity to enter the LUKS passphrase, at that time only the /boot partition is accessible. So, in my opinion, the only candidates for the bug are : Hardware - UEFI Bios - EFI partition - Refind - Grub - Something inside the /boot folder. Thank you for your help and for all that time you spent to help me. But I have to admit that I currently need to take some rest away from that bug. I will uninstall "intel-microcode" for the moment, as anyway the current version doesn't provide any defence against Spectre/Meltdown. I will see what the next intel update gives. [Bug 1764286] Re: Boot freeze due to Nvidia Geforce GTX 950M
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected artful ** Description changed: When running Ubuntu 17.10 on my laptop which has a "Nvidia Geforce GTX 950M" and a "Intel HD Graphics 530" graphic card, the boot process freezes. The cause is that the current Linux kernel does not include FOSS drivers for "Nvidia Geforce GTX 950M". The solution to avoid that freeze is to add the "nomodeset" grub boot parameter or to install the proprietary Nvidia driver. My concern is that you have to be aware of that circumvent when installing Ubuntu OS for the first time. I think that it would be more logical that the Linux kernel uses the low performance graphic card "Intel HD Graphics 530" by default, without trying to use "Nvidia Geforce GTX 950M" which is not natively supported. That would avoid the bad experience of boot freeze at first meeting. Hi all, Same issue here, modifying dapper.py and util.py with '-l' as described above by mattanja works fine for me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to vm-builder in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/726790 Title: python-vm-builder-0.12.4+bzr462-0ubuntu1: swap partitions fail to be created properly when lucid is the target To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vm-builder/+bug/726790/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network
Same kind of problem here : Running Ubuntu-servers 12.04 VMs on Ubuntu-servers 12.04 using KVM/Libvirt over bridges. Pinging my gateway from a random VM and watching packets with tcpdump on the kvm host : icmp is ok on my vnet - ok on the bridge - ok on my bond (active- backup) - ok on my gateway (reply) - ok on my bond - ok on my brigde - No packet received on my vnet brct showmacs mybridge seems to be ok showing my mac:addr (bridge+vm) I have to ifdown/ifup my eth0 on virtual guest to make it work again til the next time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to bridge-utils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/997978 Title: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bridge-utils/+bug/997978/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network
@Serge I did upgrade my kernels yesterday evening both on hypervisors and guests so now I'm running 3.2.0-25-generic on hosts and the same kernel version but virtual for VMs. Same problem today morning, some VMs dropped out. I'm actually using virtio everywhere. I'll try to test another one and keep you in touch asap. I also tried to run a VMs with the generic kernel (not the virtual one) and I'm facing the same issue. Serge as I'm building this new plateform I can say they there is no traffic at all on my VMs exept 2 guys testing some java stuffs. I almost thinking that VMs drop out when there is not enough traffic on nics... I'll keep you in touch.
